Amazing food and ambiance. We ordered paneer pasanda, , jackfruit steak , beetroot croquett. Everything was amazing. Tried all 3 desserts it was average

Lamb Shank Nihari

Saanjh is supposedly one of the better Indian fine dining restaurants in Boston. The ambiance didn't feel upscale and was like an average Indian restaurant. Seating was crammed and there is barely any space for high chairs. In general the food was good but there were some items that we had high expectations for like Jaipuri Laal Maas that didn't turn out to be good. The Laal maas is nothing like I have had in Rajasthan. We enjoyed the appetizers like Malai Tikka and Pesto Paneer tikka (even though there was barely any Pesto in it and it mostly tasted of coriander). I think the Lamb Shank Nihari was really delicious! The drinks were underwhelming - especially the Aampanna Illusion. I also felt the staff in general was not very accommodating because we asked them if one of the mocktails could be cockified and they said they will have to ask the Bartender. How difficult is it to add a liquor to a mocktail?! Another time, one of my friends asked if they could tone down the spice level for her spicy margarita and after some back and forth they sent a replacement which wasn't any better. The desserts, though aesthetically pleasing, left a lot to be desired taste wise.

Yum what a great addition to Brookline! Ssaanjh is the newest Indian restaurant in the area, located right on Beacon Street. There's lots of street parking and both indoor and outdoor seating for the summer! We ordered a bunch of drinks--their masala chai is lovely and mango lassi was a hit! For apps we LOVED all of the chaats--my favorite was the pani poori which comes in a beautiful tray with individual little cups to pour into your poori. We also tried the samosa chaat which was delicious, it comes with two samosas and lots of chickpeas/sauce. We shared two orders of the garlic naan which was perfectly fresh and garlicky (although each order is a little small--we def needed two orders for the four of us). We had the butter chicken and the paneer pasinda which were both tasty. Overall a really great meal with quite reasonable prices--our total even with drinks and more food than we needed came out to $28/person. Will definitely be back!

Great addition to the Greater Boston food scene! This general area does not have many Indian restaurants, especially ones that are slightly more upscale with a modern spin on their dishes. The interior is lovely, a great place to catch up with friends or coworkers. Dahi Puri was great! Crunchy, creamy, and refreshing at the same time, loved it! Also can't forget the Kale and Sakarkandi Chaat, which was a great combination of crispy, sweet (sweet potatoes) but also refreshing pop from the pomegranates. Mango lassi was mango lassi with a slight twist to it, unsure if it had some nutmeg or some other spice to it but was not specifically the biggest fan of this added spice to my mango lassi (that I get basically every time I visit an Indian restaurant). Palak paneer itself was a bit bland but still tasted pretty clean and simple as a dish, which I liked (didn't taste greasy). Though, the main reason this review gets 5 stars--is the Ssaanjh Special Butter Chicken entree. Which was honestly AMAZING. Best butter chicken I've had. The chicken was extremely tender (same with the lamb in our other entree too), and the blend of the chicken and butter chicken curry sauce just melts in your mouth. The sauce is super creamy, unlike what I've had before but in a good way. I just wish they gave more rice, but otherwise this dish was extremely memorable and I've had this dish at plenty other restaurants as well. I would go back just for this dish. What we ordered: -Dahi Puri -Kale and Sakarkandi Chaat -Ssaanjh Special Butter Chicken -Palak Paneer -(forget the name of the lamb curry entree) -Garlic Naan -Mango Lassi

Solid Indian fare! We got the Ssaanjh Special Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer, Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani, and some Garlic Naan. Butter Chicken was tasty and definitely had some smoky notes, though was lukewarm... Biryani and Palak Paneer were both delicious and appropriately portioned. Garlic Naan was really good: texture and flavor on-point. Complementary rice was appreciated. All for an affordable price, will return!

This was absolutely delicious. Thankful to owner Mandeep for treating my family and I so nicely. He introduced himself to every table and helped everyone with their selections which is service I have not seen before. The meat was fantastic- I am still thinking of the Nihari! Please come here.

Boston really needs a solid, upscale Indian gastropub, and I was hoping this was the answer. Unfortunately it fell a bit short. I would given 3.5 stars, but rounded that off to a 4 since it's a new restaurant. Cocktails were terrible. Food and service were decent. MVPs of the night were the kale chaat, shrimp curry and the beet root kofta. The chicken curry was disappointing, and the saag corn ricotta lacked flavor.

We've been wanting to try out Ssaanjh ever since they opened and finally got the chance! It looked like they had reservations for all their tables, but we were able to get seated nonetheless without a reservation. Our server was friendly and personable, he made sure we were well taken care of. I did feel we were a little underdressed as the decor inside seemed more upscale. They have a decently sized menu with a lot of options, as well as a full bar and some yummy cocktails to choose from. We tried a nonalcoholic juice (that I forgot the name of) which was soo delicious and fruity, it was essentially a fizzy tropical drink! First we tried the fire roasted eggplant, sooo delicious and creamy, the perfect dip for our garlic naan! I really enjoyed eating this eggplant dish with everything else, especially rice (which we got complimentary refills of!) We also tried a bone in chicken dish which we hadn't tried before, and the chicken was cooked so thoroughly the meat fell clean off the bone, along with chunks of bone! Visually, I think the dishes looked stunning and were plated well. I enjoyed the experience here, but taking into account the price, I'm not sure if the dishes we ordered were worth it. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to coming back to try their other dishes and the eggplant dish again too!

Probably one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the area! They offer a modern take on Indian food and drinks, along with having a beautiful space for friends and family to come together and eat. Got to try their lamb kadai, goan shrimp curry, chicken biryani, garlic naan, sesame naan, mango lassi, and the Ssaanjh Dessert Pot. Honestly, everything was delicious. If I had to choose just one to highlight, their lamb kadai is one I would get again and again -- I have ordered it every time I've visited. Their dessert pot also was delicious -- I'm not exactly sure if they use saffron ice cream or something similar, but it definitely adds to the lovely chocolate dessert (and it's also super cute and aesthetic). The first time my husband and I went, they did forget to bring one of the items we ordered and had to ask them to take it off the check, but the second time I went with friends, the service was generally pretty quick and caring -- they did a great job checking in on us and was very kind. :) They do lean more upscale/fine dining side, so they can be a tad pricey, but it's a nice treat to have sometimes! Will definitely be coming back again!

Excellent presentation, great taste, dishes are small sized. Mushroom mutter was good and the other dishes I was told were very good. I'll be back to try more.

Pesto paneer tikka
Alyanna T.

Our party of four ordered the pesto paneer tikka, jackfruit kofta, masala bindhi, farm fresh vegetables biryani, jaipuri lal maas, and tandoori roti - TASTE: 4/5 - highlights included the paneer's cilantro, mint, and pesto sauce, jackfruit's sweet dum ki gravy, and jaipuri lal maas's goat w sweet chili paste TEXTURE: 5/5 - soft paneer, dense kofta, and lots of great textures in the biryani, including corn, cashews, and edible flowers. And each dish had undeniably beautiful presentations! PRICE: 3/5 - higher price points, like $18-25 dishes, than other Indian spots SERVING SIZE: 3/5 - smaller portions than expected, unfortunately. Thought the paneer app would def be larger. Glad white rice was included w the mains though SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 5pm on a Saturday and sat outside, since the remaining indoor tables were all reserved. App came out 15min after ordering, and entrees 20min later ATMOSPHERE: 5/5 - modern and elegant space inside that extends outside onto the patio. Nice to see Saaanjh challenging people's perceptions of Indian food! PARKING: 4/5 - got a metered street spot a few blocks down Beacon St

Ssaanjh is a newer Indian spot tucked just outside of Fenway, right near the cluster of restaurants that form a mini food court around Brookline HMart. We ordered takeout and the experience was smooth, as the food was prepped quickly and ready right when we arrived. The interior looked sleek and well put together, definitely the kind of place I'd consider dining in next time. We only tried the butter chicken this time, which came with a side of rice. The plating wasn't the most appetizing, but the flavor more than made up for it. The butter chicken had a great balance of spice and richness, and the portion was solid. Definitely a good takeout option if you're craving something comforting.

Most standout part is the presentation! Food was good but not far exceeding other Indian places. I'd recommend the regular/max amount of spice to kick up the flavor if you can tolerate it, because the medium spice felt too mild to me. My cocktail felt very fruity/juicy with minimal alcohol. I'd recommend calling in advance for a reservation as they are decently busy even on a weeknight. Their website reservation system is not very good. Service was decent - they even proactively switched out our plates for us after our appetizers.

Tonight, I added Momo Masala to that list. I was also fortunate to have friends who live nearby, and when I mentioned to them I was going (hopefully to invite them), they said it was one of their regular places for take-out. But they also informed me that they did not have a liquor license. But that recently changed!! They now offer beer, wine, cocktails, and whiskey pours - none of these are huge amounts, but there are certainly enough options for any of these. Our group of 4 did sample several cocktails. They aren't super fancy (though some drinks do have garnishes or salty/spiced rims), but everything is well crafted. Momos first, if course. They offer several varieties, but if you prefer yours steamed, read the menu carefully, as not all varieties are available steamed. We got vegetable and chicken momos, the chicken ones in a broth. Their medium level of spiciness provided a nice but not overwhelming kick. Our entrees continued the high quality. Their chicken tikka masala has a very dark and rich sauce, and the chicken chunks were tender. The lamb was equally good. The naan here (we got garlic) is very crisp, just the way I like it. This is a popular take-out spot, but there are enough tables to accommodate people who dine in conveniently, with a relaxing ambiance. This is another great add to the wide variety of dining options in Jamaica Plain.

It's a big, clean, open environment, but there were no guests on the inside when walking in. We came in around 12:30 so there should've been at least some people there - which usually is a telling sign. My dad ordered chicken over rice, and I ordered lamb in a wrap. The wrap wasn't a wrap as it wasn't folded in on the sides, but rather left as a roll up. Rice wasn't bad, but it was just more on the plain side. Things just tasted plain and not that flavorful. I don't wanna sauce to do that, I would much rather have the food presented itself as flavorful. The meat wasn't all that great texture, wise or flavor wise. Also, the bread that the rollup was for broke apart, and the taste was slightly subpar. I could've marked it as a 3 Star place. But in reality. I know I wouldn't be coming back here again. They did offer pizza which looked kinda unappetizing when seeing it. Between trying to incorporate Indian, Mediterranean, Pizza, ans Desserts, Boulangerie, and Fusion by inserting Halal into burritos - it's too much. Too much fusion, too American. Either be the dominant force of having it as a Indian American restaurant or go the dessert & pastry route way.

There was a great singer, pianist, and sax player to really set the mood. They were super fun, especially when a couple got engaged! To start, I got their ginger martini and while my friend went with a Do-er neat (not a whiskey drinker myself, lol). He tried to order 2 of their beers but they were out of both. My drink came after 15 mins and then we had to remind the waiter about his whiskey. That took another 10. We started with the chicken bao buns and the samosas. Both spectacular! My only complaint is the little size for the samosa size. For our mains we got the short rib and the white butter chicken. The butter chicken could've used a bit more chicken for the price and was frankly a bit tough. The sauce was great. The short rib was flavorful and packed the perfect punch. Dipping the garlic naan in both sauces was my fav part!! Overall an ok experience. I want to give the restaurant grace because it was very packed but service was poor. I think we had 4 different staff members help us total which probably led to lots of miscommunication.
