This was GREAT! My husband is Indian and we eat Indian a lot- we had ordered takeout from here before but never dined in- it was SO nice! Such a pretty and nice ambiance for a date night, they even had live music from a local singer- Miranda Rae! She was amazing and so talented! Now the food, again, we eat a lot of Indian- so we can have high expectations. But WOW. We were absolutely blown away. We had ordered the lamb shank masala and butter chicken, it was SO good! That was the best lamb I've ever had- hands down. This is our new favorite spot. The owner, Madhu, was so kind and sweet. He explained that for every dish on the menu he and his wife had studied how to make it perfectly through cooking classes they had taken across India. We picked Crystal Spoons for a family member's graduation as it looked quite fancy from the pictures. Ambience-wise, it indeed was very fancy and upscale, with beautiful vivid blue plush chairs and florals and crystal light fixtures hanging from the ceilings. (There was a giant screen with bollywood trailers blasting which was a little jarring but the rest of the restaurant was beautiful.) Food-wise, it was average, not incredible, but service was painfully slow, which was the biggest problem. We also missed bowls of rice that were specifically ordered to come along with our dishes. We had to ask repeatedly, and still did not get all of the rice to come out. My in-laws also asked for chai repeatedly but did not end up getting it served despite asking 3-4 times. I got the malai kofta -- would skip this one; small tiny dumplings, sauce OK. The veggie and chicken rice palou dishes were nicely seasoned and came with raita. My favorite here was the saag paneer which had a nuttier creamy texture (it actually wasn't even on the menu but the kitchen was able to offer it upon request). We also did like the aloo tikki chaat (potato appetizer) which was served warm with nice chutney. Samosas were ok (price on the menu is for a set of 2). read more

This was an outstanding meal! The interior of this restaurant is plush and over the top but it fits right. They have a huge screen with bollywood music videos playing and a full service bar. We got a full meal here with the dahi ke kabab, dal makahni, paneer curry and the naan playter and it was delicious. The paneer and dal were so amazing it felt we were back in india, the breads were all amazing and we got to sample all options in tge platter. Their mocktails were delicious as well, the kala khaata was great. The only low poiny was the dahi kabab which felt more like a potato fritter, but everything else was amazing. It's been a while since I've had Indian food and this place really delivers! Service was prompt and friendly and the decor was bright and colorful. Here are the dishes we ordered (as of 3/2026): - Samosa - $8 - Very crisp (yet light) batter with a delicious potato and vegetable filling. Comes with 2 pieces and 2 different dipping sauces (one spicy and one sweet/savory). Would recommend. - Garlic nan - $8 - Very light and airy nan bread. The garlic amount was perfect and the flavor delicious. Would highly recommend. Came with 4 pieces. - Chicken Tikka Masala - $30 - Be warned that they presented us with a category of American spice and Indian spice. We have a pretty high spice tolerance and let me tell you that Indian spice was no joke. Unless you're a die-hard spice lover, I would stick with the American spice level. While it isn't a "blow you socks off" level of spice that hits immediately it definitely creeps in the more you eat. The chicken itself was perfectly marinated and very tender. 100% would recommend. - Hyderabadi Nalli Gosht Biryani - $36 - An extremely tender piece of goat that has been slow braised for hours and steamed with an assortment of aromatic spices and rice. This was one of my favorite dishes. The goat was cooked perfectly and extremely tender. It was not too gamey which was a big plus. I would 100% get this again. - Jumbo Jamun - $8 - Think of this as an assortment of fried dough balls (with a pancake like texture) that is soaked with a hot syrup. This was a great palate cleanser and delicious. My only wish that they came with more than 4 pieces. The picture appears as though you get a dozen. (I ate one before taking the picture.... whoops). For dinner, a friend who lives nearby roped me into trying out Crystal Spoons. At 7 p.m. on a Tuesday, we arrived to a well-decorated space - plush booths, a crystal light fixture, and a shiny bar. This made it all the more jarring that my friend and I were the only patrons there (a few more trickled in during dinner). Undeterred, we ordered the following to share: - Vegetable samosa | $8 - Chicken tikka masala (hey, not my idea) | $30 - Hyderabadi murgh dum biryani | $28 - 2 garlic naans | $6 each - Basmati rice | $6 The samosas (two large pieces) were filled with fluffy, spiced potatoes. The accompanying coleslaw was vibrantly tangy and delicious - albeit quite spicy. The chicken tikka masala had a thicker, more viscous sauce compared to the standard local fare. The biryani (with chicken) was seasoned, but not memorably so. This makes the price point hard to justify. A $30 CTM should be one of the best damned things I've ever eaten. The portion sizes were also quite "delicate." The biryani, in particular, felt more like a light lunch than a full entrée. Service was pleasant and cordial (probably helped by the fact that we were the only customers initially). That alone, however, doesn't compel me to return. read more

Just finished a very satisfying take out meal from Crystal Spoons on an early Wednesday evening. Our East Asian family enjoys a hearty South Asian spread. Overall rating: 4.5-5 Service: n/a Ambience: 4.5, clean. Well furnished. Cozy, dim lighting. -Gobi Manchurian, dry (-ish). Spicy. It's surprisingly hard to find really good Gobi Manchurian. Crystal Spoons' version is actually one of the better ones, I've had. Texture is so important to this dish/appetizer, but this is hard to judge. Since it was takeout and had to spend 10-15 minutes in a sealed container, till I got back to my hotel room, it was not as crispy as I would've preferred; I expect this would not be an issue eating it fresh-cooked in the restaurant. Importantly, it did not have any rancid oiliness I frequently encountered from other restaurants. It certainly lived up to the spicy level we ordered! 4.5 -Rogan Josh, chicken. Medium spicy. My son rated this a 4-4.5. Tender chicken in a savory stew. Spice level seemed like actual Indian medium spiciness. -Yellow dal tadka, mild. My wife rated this a 5. The spice seemed Goldilocks and she liked the consistency. After the first "Oh, this is good!" I didn't hear much until I saw the bowl empty and my wife slurping her spoon dry. -Loosani palak paneer, mild. Honestly, the best palak paneer/saag paneer's I've had in years. This also was exquisitely spiced. My only tiny quibble was that I'd have preferred just a little more texture - it was a smidgen too puréed. That said, I had just a slight pang of regret for sharing, until I remember I stole some of my wife's dal. 4.5-5. read more

One of the best lamb dishes I've had in years -- a shank nestled in layers of rice. Extremely tender, very flavorful. Our apps were also excellent. The decor was also delightful. Bright colors, comfortable padded chairs. Carved wood accents on the ceiling. Everything seemed carefully thought out. This is now my favorite Indian restaurant in the greater Boston area. read more

The service was non existent. It took over 15 minutes to just order appetizers and another 30 minutes to get appetizers. And of course another 15-20 mins to order the entrees and of course another 30 minutes to get the lunch. The food and taste were nothing worth the wait. We spent more time waiting to order and for the food than eating. That is to say we ordered standard vegetarian items and just 2 or 3 dishes for each course. Worse they still messed up the order and the wait staff would run away without making eye contact. It was mother's day and at least one family of 4 just left after waiting for 15 minutes waiting to even place their initial order. If there is less staff on a day then simply refuse patrons rather than service that is sub sub par. read more

I don't usually write long reviews, but Crystal Spoons deserves every word. I walked in expecting good Indian food. I walked out feeling like I had just taken a trip home. I've lived in Boston for years and tried more Indian restaurants than I can count. But nothing compares to Crystal Spoons. Their menu feels like a culinary tour of India. They capture flavors from different regions authentically, not just with spices but with heart. The butter chicken is unreal. The creaminess, the balance of flavors, the tenderness of the meat... it literally melts in your mouth. The dal makhani tastes slow-cooked the way it should. The chole bhature reminded me of Sunday breakfasts from childhood. The Indo Chinese dishes are better than many I've tried even in India. You know a restaurant understands their tandoor when the chicken and lamb come out so soft, smoky, and juicy that you barely need a knife. Their breads are baked fresh and come out soft, pillowy, and warm. No dry, reheated naan here. And it's not just the food. It's the people. The owners are warm, passionate, and welcoming. Roger deserves a special mention for treating customers like family. The whole staff has that lovable, genuine energy that you rarely find in restaurants anymore. They go above and beyond to accommodate any request. The Ambiance of the place is impeccable and impressive. It's rich, royal and yet romantic which sounds unreal! Their bold and beautifully curated menu is shaking up the Indian food scene in Boston. You walk in for a meal and you come out with a memory. Crystal Spoons isn't just the best Indian food in Boston. Last night, my wife and I decided to try out a new restaurant in our area. We are very seldom surprised, but Crystal Spoons took us totally by surprise. We ordered the Aloo Papdichaat appetizer, the Murgh Tikka (chicken), and the Achari Baingan (eggplant). From the first bite of the appetizer, we knew that we were in for something special. To say that the food was good or even excellent would be to do it a disservice. It was, indeed, excellent, but just as importantly, it was distinctive. We've eaten at dozens of Indian restaurants over the years, many of them quite good, but we'd never had dishes exactly like this (I guess from the Bombay region). The flavors were complex, subtle, quietly intense, and--I'm not quite sure how to say this--multidimensional. We could taste the vibrancy of the freshly ground spices, both individually and in shifting combinations, as taste and fragrance created a kind of echo chamber effect. I had to keep pausing every couple of bites to say things like "Wow!," "Amazing!" "Extraordinary!" We had a chance to talk with both our waiter and with the owner. Both were warm and gracious, and the owner took the time to fill us in on the history of the restaurant--there's another one in Norwood--and on the philosophy behind the menu. Even before he filled us in, we couldn't help but be aware of the intense thought and care that must have gone into every detail of planning and preparation. If my wife and I could award Michelin Stars, this restaurant would get one. read more
