I came here for 2 reasons. 1) I've been to the brother location in Annandale and absolutely fell in love. Customer service was great and food was delicious. 2) My husband raved about the deliciousness of their food and exceptional service that they had. So I came here to order my food. Several things wrong with this visit. 1) there was no AC. They had 3 big floor fans on the floor and the inside of the restaurant was steaming. No way that I was going to melt and swift away in the fan. 2) the cashier girl didn't know what she was doing. It took her forever on the register to take down my order. And she kept calling who seemed to be the manager of the owner. He was very nice and greeted every single customer that walked in. 3) when I got home, I had 1 chicken curry and 1 lamb curry for my orders. But I asked for 2 chicken curry. It's so hard to go back and try to exchange it out. So yeah hubby dealt with the lamb situation. 4) the kabob was SO DRY! it was THE WORST KABOB I'VE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! Food Corner of Annandale - the first of the Food Corner locations - was the absolute best of authentic Afghan kabob when I was introduced to it several years ago...like it was plucked straight from the streets of downtown Kabul. In years since, the prices have risen and quality has not always been consistent...but the times it has been off, it still exceeds nearly every other kabob experience. The Springfield location and Tysons locations are good too with a different and unique atmosphere for each, but I always feel most home at their original place in Annandale. The portions are always sizable and I really have to push myself to finish in one setting, so you definitely get value for your money. The quality is always superior and the take great care in providing food that they would serve themselves and their own family. My favorite is Combination Kabob with Lamb & Chicken, and whatever sides I choose at random as they are all good. Sides available are usually Chickpeas, Spinach, Okra, Potatoes, among others. Don't expect any non-traditional sides like french fried here! My alternate is Quabili Palau with Spinach and Meat Sauce on top. Last but not least, the naan (bread) is hand made in the restaurant with traditional ingredients and it is so delicious when hot! They make the decision for dessert easy, as they only have Baklava! :-) Of course some Best Mango Juice could be a sweet, healthy substitute. I would encourage anyone who has chosen another Kabob place as their favorite, to give Corner Kabob a try. The first time I came here, I didn't know what to get so I ordered a gyro. The guy at the counter was so friendly and suggested I get it "Afgan style" so I did. Boy, was it worth it! Highly recommend. The meals are huge, so big I can hardly finish them. Some times I forget to eat my naan and am surprised I don't feel like I'm gonna have to be rolled out the door but then I see it and it is a happy surprise. The meat here is unbelievable. So flavorful, tender, well-seasoned. If that wasn't enough, the sides are amazing. If you didn't like vegetables before, you should make an exception for here. Personally, I haven't had a thing I didn't like but I'm partial to the chickpeas and the pumpkin. When I've dined in, I've been offered some chicken noodle soup while I wait and you must not turn it down, it's awesome. You get your food and pay afterwards. One of my really good friends took me here for lunch after work - this is one of her favorite restaurants, and she goes here at least twice a week with her family. Food Corner Kabob is located in the same plaza as Shilla Bakery off of Little River Turnpike (they also have 4 other locations including Centreville, Dupont Circle, Tysons Corner, and Springfield). The Annandale location is the original location, though. They are known for their Afghan kabobs, and their menu includes boneless chicken kabobs, chopan kabobs, lamb kabobs, shami kabobs, bone-in chicken kabobs, salmon kabobs, shrimp kabobs, and tilapia kabobs; they also offer sandwiches, vegetarian options, and side orders such as Afghan rice, sambosas, baklava, lamb curry meat sauce, chicken curry, potatoes, fried spinach, sauteed pumpkin, eggplant, lentils, cauliflower, and ocra; when we walked in, we were given a nice cup of soup - it was very hearty, filled with some noodles and chunks of vegetables - very flavorful. I had the Beef Kabob combo platter, which came with nice big chunks of tender beef that was marinated in a blend of spices, broiled over charcoal on a skewer - they were very juicy and flavorful, and had a great exterior; it came with a side of rice that was very fragrant, fresh lettuce salad with ranch sauce, your choice of a side (I opted for chickpeas - more tomato-based), and freshly-baked bread. The seating area is a little crammed, so it can be a little tight if you come with a big group. The sons of the original owners manage this restaurant, and the service was very friendly. Love this particular Food Corner Kabob! I always call ahead for pick up. The guy always tries to flirt with me and asks the same one liner: are you Afghan? UMMM NO, this has to be the tenth time you have asked me this, shouldn't you recognize me by now?! Despite the bad face recognition i.d and weird pick up lines used by the cashier, I always get extra chutney and gyro sauce for being 'almost-Afghan'. The food is always consistently good and plentiful. Two people can easily split the entree and be satisfied. I stick to my usual order of Chicken and Shami (beef kabob) with a side of spinach (I prefer the Pakistani chick peas to the afghan version so the spinach is the way to go). read more

I love halal food. This place has got well-seasoned steak chunks for the kabobs.....a little TOO seasoned!! I started to dip it in the infamous spicy green sauce (yogurt, green chilis, cilantro) not because I loved it but because it was too salty! I'm thirsty as I'm yelping right now because of how salty the kabobs were! On the other hand, the basmati rice was cooked and seasoned deliciously. It came with a side of sweet potato and that went surprisingly well with their rice. Mixed greens with their dressing was good also. Humongous piece of flat bread! Salmon kabobs were okay. I'm not a huge fan of cooked salmon so I guess I can't judge. And this dish didn't change my mind. My husband on the other hand said he usually wouldn't order salmon entrees but this one is particularly good. The salmon was chargrilled. There's several other types of kabobs, you can also opt for the gyro style instead of the rice. You can choose the pita bread vs flatbread. Get extra green sauce if you like it! read more

If you've lived in Annandale you've eaten here. This place is an Annandale staple. Personally, I can say I've probably ate here 100+ times in my life. There are many Food Corner locations now but this location is the original. Everything in their menu is fantastic. My personal favorites are the lamb or chicken kabobs. But the shami and beef kabobs are also fantastic. Their sides are also great. When you order you get to choose a side to go with you rice and salad. Normally, I get pumpkin or lamb curry. But they have many others to offer. Also, no kabob spot would be worthy without good bread. And Food Corner's Afghan bread + chutney is fantastic! Our favorite kabob place in NoVa for overall value. Good amount of food that comes with salad, rice, nann bread, and one additional side that they put over rice or to the side. Free soup while waiting. I always get the combo with chicken and beef kabob with spinach as the side. The restaurant decor is outdated and very casual setting. Went on a Saturday, and it was empty. Meat dishes were dry and crusty. Bread was okay. Items like mantu were the reason we went there, and of course, they don't exist. But, the one item that was just horrible was the chickpeas! Holy smokes, seemed to be cooked in thin tomato sauce with tough chickpeas and absolutely no authentic flavor. The lamb kabobs were delicious and tender, but the shami kabobs and beef kabobs were a little dry. The beef kabobs were really chewy. I was the usual customer at the Springfield location in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I moved away and this visit was a little disappointing. I love this place. Note: I get the same thing every time, so can only speak to the chicken kabob kid meal. Perfect size for me. I like my chicken more on the well-done side, and they grill it to perfection (for me). The green salad that comes with it is yummy. The Afghan version of chicken soup is really a spot-hitter and cleans your sinuses! (a good thing for me). Is the restaurant the cleanest? No. If you want a nice atmosphere to enjoy a relaxing dinner, this is not the place. Yummmm!!! Food corner remains one of my favorite kabob joints in the DMV area. My favorite food corner is the one in Centreville (they had the best chicken last time I went) while I know it's a chain their chicken was just above the regular food corner (which is still delicious). The Centreville location is just too far for me. Came here with my dad today so he could enjoy another meal that he can't get back home. Since we didn't phone in we waited for our food a bit (but totally worth the wait) the guy at the cashier hooked us up with some Afghan chicken noodle soup while we waited and my dad was hooked!!! He loved the flavor and probably would have gotten a cup if the weather was a little cooler out. I love the side options here too and that I can pick and choose whatever I want. The customer service here is great and they really want you or enjoy the food. Some people complain about the price; but with as much food as you get I can get two meals out of it so it's not bad in my opinion; not to mention it's flavorful! read more
