Ambience - New Vietnamese restaurant on the Anderson Mill road to 620. The store had its soft opening on Saturday thru the 11th. The grand opening is on the 12th if i remember correctly. Anyways, very small but modern decor with the cashier and kitchen right up front. They have 2 TVs that serve as the menu board plus 2 other TVs for your viewing pleasure. It is brand new so the place is obviously clean and just pops with the natural sunlight from 2/4th of the walls are glass. But it is a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. I have been passing by for the last few months and always wondered what kind of restaurant it was. The V made think that is was going to be a Vegan or Vegetarian joint. Guess not so much, guess the V stands for Vietnamese?
Menu - Since it is only in its soft open the menu is pretty limited to the main staples and basics. You have a choice between Banh Mi, Vermicelli/Rice Bowl or Pho. But those are the most popular anyways. Plus those are the main staples and if you cant do the main stars well, then you probably cant do anything right. But right now it is just limited to those 3. Each of the categories you get to choose what kind of protein you would like in them. Which is mostly pork or beef. But hey, everyone loves dead animal meat.
Service - Service here was wonderful. Granted it is still new and they have the wide eyed enthusiasm of a young girl at cheer camp. When i walked in i was greeted by a young Caucasian girl. She was pretty friendly and still learning the POS system. No points deducted obviously as this is their learning step. There was also an Asian woman working in the kitchen, which is literally right next to the cashier station. She was super sweet. After all the orders were made she came out and checked on me and the other 2 guests in the lobby. She seemed a little shy but it was adorable. She just had the sweetest smile and had a great attitude. The service overall was very good.
Food - I got 2 things to really test the mettle of this establishment. I got a Beef Banh Mi for togo and a combo beef pho dish for dine in. First things first is the Pho. It came out in a very traditional large bowl of huge proportion. It came with a side of herb and bean sprouts to add as wanted. The broth of the Pho was very simple and light yet still flavorful. It was nice and piping hot and had a really nice freshness to it. Kind of basic, not overly complex, but very tasty. The meats in the dish were also very good as well. Had a great meaty taste and wasnted overcooked. I dont know exactly what kind of beef or meat it was but they were all really good. The meatball looking one was very wonderful as it a very unique but yummy flavor. The meats were great. Obviously it is a noodle dish so there is a ton of noodles in the bowl. They were good, pretty standard flavor Pho noodles. Cooked very well, not over or under cooked. The bean sprouts added a very nice crunch and extra freshness to the dish. I know they are just bean sprouts but they are some of the best handled sprouts i have had. They were nice, fresh and crunchy. Bean sprouts can go bad real quick and become really slimy and limp. Anyways, the bean sprouts and herb added a nice extra level of flavor and freshness. The Pho overall was very good. Nice and simple, flavorful and fresh and very filling.
The Beef Banh Mi was pretty good. They advertise they make all their own breads so that was a nice touch. The Banh Mi had a pretty decent amount of meat, condiments and veggies. The bread was a little "crispier" than i expected. Most Banh Mi i have had, had a soft(er) bread. I dont know, maybe i have been have the wrong kind of Banh Mi bread. Anyways, it did add a nice crunch texture to it. Im not sure if thats how it is meant to be or maybe it was just an older bread from the day or the day before. It wasnt bad just something new to me. So the beef was very good. Had a nice great flavor that paired very well with the veggies and sauces. The veggies had a great freshness to them that really surprised me. So they either do fresh produce or really know how to handle produce orders. The meat to bun to veggie to condiment ratio was a little off for my liking thou. There was just a little bit to much bread. Some bites were basically just bread. It was a decent amount of filling but it was either a little to little or a little to much bread. But thats just my preference. Overall thou the Banh Mi was really good.
Overall - super excited to have a Vietnamese store super close to my apartment. Of the 2 main staples i had, they executed them both very well. Both were very filling, flavorful and had a great freshness to them. The pricing is also very reasonable with most entrees around $8. But yeah, overall, very solid restuarant read more
