    This Lobby is Enormous!

This is the nicest, most bougie post office I've ever seen. It is so big and clean and they must have fired all the broken down, grumpy, ready to give up on life Postal Workers because this was the entire fleet of smiling and happy government workers. Or maybe they brought in the USPS's Christmas Cheer Crew because I've never had a more pleasant experience at the post office. On a personal note, they had every Christmas stamp known to man, so of course I had to buy a sampling of each. Now my Christmas Card recipients will get a fun little surprise when they see what stamp they end up with. This Post Office also has a pretty expansive Passport center, so you're all set if you need to check that out.

This place is the cleanest and most stocked post office; as it should be for the SD Headquarters. I remember my time working here decades ago. I will say that I like how they had all six windows running and open. They even had the box section clerk working window to help out with the line. Check out my pictures they show all the good stuff that this post office has to be proud of. Everything is clean the floors the walls the posters the stock of cards the stock of boxes the stock of mailing supplies and everything in the whole place is just top-notch first class perfect. The only downside to my visit was that I was asking to see black heritage stamps, to purchase, and they didn't have not one in stock. Also, when the woman window clerk came to show me which stamps I could buy, she held them away from me so far that I could barely even see them. She wouldn't even let me touch them to see what I was trying to look at. I felt like she was afraid that I was going to Steal them without paying. I knocked off a star for the way I was treated because that was so unnecessary. You see my fat ass diamond ring on my finger in UCI I have cash and my debit card out. Besides that I'm a customer and it would be stupid of me to even think about stealing your stamps. Overall, facility-wise this is the best post office in the whole county of San Diego. Super clean, well stocked, and lines love quickly. They do need to beef up their stamp stock to include diverse black heritage and other celebratory cultures. I guess I got to go to a more diverse neighborhood to find that type of stamp stock.

Unwelcoming staff, chronic inefficiency, and frequent technical failures are the norm here. I'm sharing this particular visit because it illustrates perfectly what you can expect every time you walk through that door. I came in with the simplest possible transaction: a prepaid label, already purchased, with a QR code to scan and print. A 30 second transaction, tops. The self-service kiosk had a long line, so I made the decision to use the full-service counter instead. I waited 20 minutes. When I finally reached the teller, I showed her my QR code and was told, without a hint of apology or friendliness, that she couldn't scan QR codes and I needed to go use the self-service kiosk. The same kiosk. The one with the line. Back I went for another 20 minutes, after which my actual transaction took all of 30 seconds. So, 40 minutes, one needlessly rude employee, and a full-service desk that is apparently incapable of performing a function that an unmanned machine handles effortlessly. Par for the course here. If you have any flexibility in how you ship, do yourself a favor: go to UPS or FedEx. Save yourself the frustration and avoid this location in particular. The USPS as a whole is struggling, but this branch has truly distinguished itself in all the wrong ways. You've been warned.

They first said I could print one there and then after some genuine confusion on my end told me I would need to go to UPS or somewhere else because they don't print them there.... Y'all. That hazard label is for air travel. The shipping label is clearly marked as hazardous / GROUND TRAVEL ONLY. I went to a different post office, they looked at all the same return info, put a little extra hazard sticker on it and sent me on my way. Absolutely ridiculous waste of time.

This USPS is honestly a pretty decent one, if not one of the better ones. I have been to several in…read moreSan Diego, including East County, Kearny Mesa, and Mira Mesa. This one is my favorite and I come here about 1x a week. Second favorite is the one in Carmel Mountain because they sell cute USPS dog costumes in their "gift shop" wall area. Lol but I digress... Did you know this post office ships live chicks?? Once I heard chicks chirping & that's when I found out. I learn something new every day. Ok, back to the review. First off, the postal workers are so patient, kind and friendly. I'm one of those customers who only drops off prepaid packages, but I want them scanned in, so I typically stand in line just observing. I'm usually the most relaxed customer in the room, lol. Others are typically frantically grabbing boxes & writing labels. The postal workers are freaking saints. These people are good at their jobs. They help people of all skill levels, from those who have their stuff in their hands & ask them cluelessly how to mail it to someone, pricing, & everything else you can find on their website, to helping others who have everything good to go, but get shocked at the price to ship & try to argue it with them. Lol. The postal workers are professional, and have literally seen it all in my opinion. They answer everyone's questions and I've never seen them rush anyone, no matter how long the line. Like I said, they're saints. Wow. One woman ahead of me brought her little daughter and the postal worker was very sweet to her. Another time I saw a postal worker elegantly handle an angry man yelling at them about his PO Box. Next, they have a large shaded area out front where you can wait in line/package your items. There is also a drop off window for any prepaid packages. Inside, there are stickers for where to stand in a socially distanced fashion & there is plexiglass between you and the postal worker. I do not believe they provide any hand sanitizer. Doors are normally kept open and there is decent airflow. This location is not NEARLY as busy as other locations. Mira Mesa one and this one feel like night and day. I like how this one is not as busy. However, one weekend recently during the lunch hour, I saw a line of about 10-12 people out the door! Crazy. Doesn't happen often though. Normally there's 2-3 people in line ahead of me when I come here on weekdays to ship. Last, but not least, this USPS always puts in effort to decorate for the season. It makes waiting in line much more pleasant. It's 2020- sometimes you just gotta appreciate the little things! I'm a fan!
