    Evanston's Central Street USPS
    K R.

Just keep getting worse. I've been sixth in line for over 30mins. There are 2... a whopping 2 clerks and, one says she's closed. This place closes at 6pm and, the location closest to my home near Central, wasn't open at all today. I called ahead and every time, my call was picked up then hung up, without a hello. So I drove here to get some information on why the Central office hadn't been accessible today. There is far worse consistency with service and, with access to these locations than ever. I mean, it was never great to begin with but, it has become an increasing horrid nightmare to deal with over the last 4 years.

First time here to ship a package for daughter, drove there, park the car outside. The post office building looks huge and much authoritative than all post office i saw in US. Walk in and found out there are 4 window open, so i waited in line, when it my turn, she told me to go to window 2 to gave the package as i already had a shipping label. Interesting! So i went there, there is another guy throw his package into a cart, so i did same.. hahaha. Interesting.

A post office that has me wait in line to send a package I have with a prepaid mobile label, and then the rep says to me "so you're gonna need to find a way to tape your box because we have no tape." And just smiles with her hands folded. Yes, a post office with no tape. WTF type of bull is this?? No one on the entire staff at this location thought to go get tape? Call someone to deliver tape? Or say hey, we are a f*cking post office where people come to mail things that need to be sealed...hmmm...we might need some dam tape!! One of us should go get some! Just shut down and stop once you've gotten to this level of not giving a crap.

Essential workers my ass let it be know that this so called post offices cost me over $600 of undelivered goods. It's the oldest trick n the book to mark it down as delivered and make the consumer search & cover the damages. Do yourself a favor and choose FedEX or otherwise for your delivery services because they will answer your call and pretend until the end. Oh and here's the so called delivery manager's phone number (847) 328-6288 "Good Luck"

This is the WORST Post Office in existence, and thus includes the one at 701 Main Street, Evanston, Illinois 60202. It seems you have to have rude, unprofessional, tacky, and non-customer service oriented to even get a job working for the USPS in Evanston, Illinois. My mail carrier will not deliver our mail before 6-7 pm. At 6:16 pm (and this is consistently), our mail still has NOT been delivered. The mail truck is here, but our mail is not. Should she be a Mail Carrier if she cannot deliver mail, on a daily basis, before 6 pm? The main Post Office at 1101 Davis Street is the WORST of the WORST. Consistently rude. Consistently only ONE window out of 7 or 8 is open, no matter how long the line is. And God forbid you try to ask them a question real quick. They are big on rolling (slamming) down the windows on customers. The Asian lady that works in the front became indignant when I asked her was she open. Dee, at the Main Street location refused service to a customer that asked her for USPS packing tape. She called the Police and refused service to EVERYONE because the person stated that she should post this horrible service on Instagram. I could go on, but even I am tired at this point. So this has been YEARS of in the toilet level bad service. So my question is, who has been in charge all of this time, while all of this has been going on, and why are (any) of them still employed? You hate your jobs, and yours customers that bad, then you should be let go. If I did not have to use their services (for business reasons), I would not. Because, actually a one star rating is a generous rating for the USPS in Evanston, Illinois 60201, and all of this is BEFORE the holiday season.

Pretty looking post office, but typical understaffed service like all the others. When will it ever get fixed! Soon; next year; in a few years; a decade; never! Correct! Never! I always dread using the automated machine, because there is the possibility that my package will not make it. I don't plan to leave a crappy star rating, but i will leave what i saw. This place must get crazy busy, because they had three automated machines inside. Parking is meter parking, so make sure you have your card or you may get a ticket. I rate this post office a 3 out of 5! Will i come back? Probably not, but that is only because i don't live in the area.

I filed an insurance claim 8 days after sending the package, which was on May 16. When my customer took the package in to this location, both clerks (Jimmy and Vada) refused to do the damage report, saying the deadline had passed. I was on the phone with my customer and she showed them the email we'd received from the USPS claims department with instructions for local USPS offices to complete the damage reports. The claims department representative was very clear that decisions about the timeline were up to them. The local office still should examine and document the damage. This was the 3rd post office she had taken it to. First was Devon St and then Main St in Evanston. All with excuses for why they cannot examine damaged packages/items and provide the receipt form. I contacted USPS about the incident at Paulina St since I was on the phone to hear what happened. I received a response back from Ms. Hollis (a customer service agent at the location) via email stating that the deadline to examine the package was May 20 (!). How is that possible when the package was sent on May 8 and I filed the claim on May 16? You have two months to initiate a claim on a Priority Mail package. Surely we have more than 4 days after initiating the claim to bring it in. I called her today to try to get clarity on her decision and she was defensive and rude. She ultimately refused to explain where she got that date from and left me on hold after saying "let me let you speak to someone else." She is the one who wrote the email. At this point, I have to just wait for the claim to be denied and provide all the evidence of our efforts to get a damage report, including the pictures that I am attaching. My customer took pictures of the package inside the office to prove she brought it in. I've been in business for 4 years and have never experienced this much trouble with an insurance claim. It is as if the Chicago area staff are united in refusing to do their small part of the process which is to simply examine the damage and upload it for our claim. Pictures are attached.

The line wasn't terribly long, though there always seems to be a person who has some more complicated postal issue they're resolving. Whilst I was standing in line behind one other person, two or three others got in line behind me in quick succession and another employee came over to open another window, so I was helped within 5 minutes or so of getting in line. The woman who helped me was courteous , efficient, and unlike almost every other employee I encounter at a post office didn't seem to hate her job or hate the people who come to the post office and make her have to do her job. Unfortunately I didn't get her name because I figured it would be on the receipt, but it wasn't. Anyway, thanks for defying almost seems to be a post office mandate to be as unpleasant as possible, Woman at the Window! Totally unrelated to the post office itself, there were a dozen or more house sparrows flitting around in the bushes and on the window ledges at the post office this morning. Cheerful send off on a lovely, unseasonably warm November morning.

I have had so many problems that I should have contacted you sooner, but something happened today that I wanted to make you aware of. Something I ordered online showed that the item had arrived at the Post Office where my P.O. Box is on Sat. 8/28 at 7:31 am, but the scan did not show it was delivered. It was USPS Ground Advantage tracking number 9400 1081 0624 4473 0467 44 When I went to my P.O. Box on Tue. 9/1, it was not there, then today 9/2, it was not there either, and this is when I first brought this up to the clerk at 9318 Skokie Blvd. I explained what happened, she looked the tracking number up on her terminal and saw the same info., and then told me it was at the main Skokie Post Office on Madison St. I then drove there and explained what happened to Diamond. I go to both of the Skokie locations, she works at both, and it is not saying much, but she is far and away the best employee that you have in Skokie. I went over all of the same info.; she is a great listener, and then she went in back to look for it and/or look for someone that could help find it, since there was only 1 other Clerk working up front. After about 2-3 minutes in back, I could hear (but not see) her speaking to a male, and then I heard this man say, "maybe he shouldn't use the Post Office." This occurred at approximately 2:15 pm CDT at the 4950 Madison St. location in case there are cameras in the back and you want to figure out who the man who said these things about me is. It is very sad that anyone would speak about a fellow American like this. Especially someone like whoever this man is that said this about me, because at the end of the day, he is a Government employee, and my Federal Income Tax is supposed to go to things like paying his salary and benefits. I brought this up to two different clerks, both Diamond, and the other young lady who I do not know her name... just that I overheard him say this about me, but the first one would not tell me his name, and then when Diamond returned from the back, I told her that I had overheard this. I did not ask her who the guy's name was, because again, in my opinion she is the only good employee you have at either Skokie location, and she has helped so many times trying to fix all of the mistakes that the other employees made and has helped me numerous times, that I just did not want to involve someone in something that was not her fault. I have seen her help other customers many times as well while I am waiting in line. Even today, Diamond went over everything, it was just a conversation, everything both ways was respectful and a normal tone of voice, she apologized for what happened, which was very classy, but I told her right away thank you for saying that, but there's no reason to apologize to me because you did nothing wrong. (Someone did find the package later that afternoon, she actually was the one who called me to tell me that someone found it, and I had to drive back (for the 4th time today) to finally obtain my property. I'm still trying to understand why/how someone could say something like, "maybe he shouldn't use the Post Office." I'm not one to complain, mostly for fear of retaliation and time constraints, it is just that when multiple times over the past months things are missing, scanned in as delivered but not in my box or they can't find it, the clerks putting my stuff in the wrong box (2 months ago this happened with my Rx) I did not have the medication that day because of someone's error, and then I had to spend close to 2 hours at the Skokie Police Department filling out their forms only to be told at the end that their (Skokie PD's report) really did not matter; I had to fill out the form online at USPS.com for missing/stolen medication, clerks at both locations basically rolling their eyes at me and not believing me or caring, Tuesday 9/1this happened too.... there was another problem I had ordered some supplements, the tracking showed delivered but it was not in my box and they could not find it in back, then after 3 trips driving back and forth between both Post Offices, the clerk at 9318 Skokie Blvd. looked more and figured out that whoever put the mail in the boxes before the Post Office opened put my thing in someone else's P.O. Box, then the clerk just basically tossed/slid it to me and said sorry in such a sarcastic and condescending manner. This task was not for the faint-hearted. At the post office, I had to buy a box, bubble wrap, strong packing tape with threads in it; then box it up myself. Of course I got dust on my hands. The weight was 20 lbs and the cost $72. But at least someone will have to sign for delivery. People get VERY UPSET when the US Postal Service loses Grandma's cremains. On the plus side, the USPS goes to every rinky-dink unincorporated town in America. If they can't deliver, no-one can. I think I'll go have coffee now.

I requested no such thing & figured I could get this sorted out prior to starting my work day. I quickly got dressed & headed off. There is very limited parking, despite arriving just an hour after opening & of course, the line was long. There was also a notable horde of less than enthused people standing near a blue door. The gentleman assisting the line, was very polite & handed me a green sheet to put my tracking info, phone number, & address on, which was then added to a large pile. You're told you'll be called when your package is ready. This is where it gets bad. After waiting 20+ minutes, a woman appears at the door, tells everyone they should leave as no more than 10 people can be in the lobby at once. I get it - we're in the middle of a pandemic. This did little to get people to leave & I could tell her patience was wearing thin. After waiting another 30+ minutes, she reappears & when I was asked what I was waiting for, I told her it was a package. At this point, I was told to go home & I would be called. Admittedly, this was not how I wanted to spend my morning, & even worse, waste time only to be turned away. I hate being late for work & having to stay later for reasons out of my control. Upon arriving home, I submitted a ticket online (as I have before for packages), & sulked. Do yourself a favor if you find yourself in my position & submit a ticket instead. My package was finally delivered the next day - by a postal carrier who was not wearing a mask, might I add. I am now considering things I order online & it may be worth just paying extra for service with UPS or FedEx.
