Just put a machine in this place for the love of peace. Get rid of this counter person- she's the nastiest piece of work. Assign her somewhere not helping actual people. Surliest and most unhelpful counter person, D, I've ever had to deal with at any USPS and that's saying a lot considering how generally awful usps workers are at helping anyone. She's actually at her nastiest when there's hardly anyone there. Refuses to even help you by giving you one piece of tape to secure a box a little bit better. She will point you in the direction of the supplies and grumble. This is where civil service jobs are at their worst- no fear of being fired. I've given this place many tries and occasionally you'll catch her on a good day, but mostly she's just a miserable person who had no business being in customer service. I've actually chosen to ship via UPS and pay extra bc of this miserable woman. No more! I'm done with this place. She acts like she's doing you a favor for you shipping packages and keeping her with a job. They should just shut this location- from what I can tell it's very underused. read more

My wife tried to bring a couple packages here twice and the first time they wouldnt even let he enter the store because there was too many people in the store. There was easily enough space for her to enter the store and wait her turn. We finally made our way back to try again and this time the black woman behind the counter with glasses was very condescending and rude. Dee was super helpful and kind. I'm moving across the country on a budget so it was essentials only with USPS shipping. I was worried something would go wrong shipping so many boxes. And my timeline got moved up too so I rushed in 30min. before closing uncertain if they'd be able to ship my boxes in that time. But she did it! And she also showed me how to properly tape my boxes. Just moved to Evanston and was dreading to having to take care of an address change, among other things. Of course it couldn't be easy, I was forced to make several trips to the post office itself in order to achieve my goals. Thankfully and surely a shock to me was Dee, the post office employee who went way over and beyond helping me. What an easy transition she turned my problems into and a breath of fresh air that reminded me like an uppercut, ALWAYS BE KIND. Ok. A post office that has always underperformed continues to under perform. Checked to see what time the PO opened and a Google Search says 8am. I arrive at the door and the door sign says 9am. I wait assuming that they are on holiday hours. After waiting for a few minutes someone from inside of the building knocks on the glass, points to the hours, and walks away. I hope to appeal to her and explain why I am there and she is not having it. One glance back and she is gone. I thought things were getting better at this PO but they are still using the old play book. No customer service or manners. Seems to have worked for them in the past. I can always hope that the USPS will some day recognize that they have an ongoing problem. read more

Love Dee, She is no nonsense,very knowledgeable and has been extremely helpful. I ship a lot of packages and Dee has helped me make better mailing decisions. My packages get there quicker and I have even saved money. People forget that everyone that comes to the PO has a custom and unique situation. When I tell you I have never been so distraught after visiting a post office..... I went in to ship something I sold off Poshmark. I kindly asked to please use some tape so I could tape the shipping label on. The lady said ' you could buy some for 3.89' and I said you don't have two pieces I could use?' And she stared at me, scanned the bag, and said no you owe 1.89' I said ok well I don't want to buy the bag then. She said ' you already used it. You want to go to jail for 1.89?' And I said ' well that would be very silly' she then said in an ever so condescending voice ' well this is a federal business, you're on camera sweetie' I then told her ' well, I don't want to go to jail so I better pay for this bag' I'm not sure where she grew up, or how she was raised but I wasn't about to steal her $1.89 bag during my lunch break after teaching at the neighborhood elementary school. I pray DEE has a better day and that nobody steals the USPS packaging bags. Some kind lady in line happened to have some tape and offered it to me after seeing what a hard time DEE was giving me. She's truly lucky to have a job. I didn't realize a requirement to work at USPS was to be a total B. Thanks for threatening to send me to jail. After reading multiple reviews I see this is a tactic that Dee uses often. She threatens people ( who are not the same race as her) , by saying she will call the police. This is ridiculous, unprofessional, and disgusting. It would not be tolerated in other business settings so why is it allowed here? Ps you can call and complain to (847) 328-6288. Had an appointment for passport services. The African American female who works there was extremely rude and unprofessional. Her name is Dorothy and wears glasses. She had a bad attitude, worst customer service I have ever encountered. She barely explained anything, chewing her gum, and demanded documents that were not even required from the government website. She seems like she didn't want to be there. Long wait to get appointments and left with no solution. She should be fired, or get additional customers service training! read more

Some people just shouldn't be working customer service jobs. The female that I interacted with today (Nov. 19th around 1:30pm) was extremely rude, dismissive, actually responded to my question "I said NO", I felt almost threatened. She shouldn't be working there at all or needs serious training on how to provide good customer service. I had to talk to the USPS driver right after that and he was wonderful and very helpful. What a demeaning experience from start to finish! I came to yelp to see if other people have had similar experiences and everyone has spoken about how rude the same employee is. The point is; it's worth driving to another post office- which sounds ridiculous, and it is, but it will save you the frustrating experience of being talked down to. There is no automated machine here and usually, it's just one person working and there is ALWAYS a line and it always crawls. Thank goodness there is a small parking lot nearby where you don't have to feed a meter, but still, the lines are always long - they don't always have the postage that the Davis branch has and their hours aren't as convenient as the Davis branch. Got here at 9:00AM (when they open) and no one is there today. Unbelievable. Memorial Day/paid holiday is NEXT MONDAY folks!! By 9:07AM lights were still off and the shutter at the counter was still closed. I couldn't wait or else I would've been late to work. I had 5 orders wrapped and ready to go with prepaid labels... I had to come back and write an update, and yes I've gone from one start to FIVE because there is a new manager in town, her name is Dee, and she has turned this place around, complete 180. As noted in my previous review, I used to despise this USPS location and began avoiding it like the plague. I agreed with all the other awful reviews about how surly and inefficient the previous employees were who worked there. It would take them SO long to type in custom forms meaning sending anything internationally was a nightmare, and there was never any concern with the length of the lines...oh wait, this is meant to be an updated review, see how easily I get pulled back into ranting about the old place? It's really like a new location here - AS LONG as you get Dee. And she tells me she's the new manager and this is her domain now, and if her bosses have any sense, they'll keep it that way. She is super efficient, she knows her stuff, she's professional, she's friendly but in a no-nonsense, let's keep this line moving kinda way. I've only been in twice since she took over but both times despite being busy, and her being on her own, the line moved FAST. So I feel like I actually have a functioning post office on my street again, which is wonderful, and I'm writing this review mainly in the hopes that the bosses will see and keep Dee around. read more

I always brace myself when entering a post office with an expectation of a lag in technology, unmotivated workers, lack of understanding about customer service, dismal, unattractive interiors. Boy, was I surprised when I walked into the Main Street location! The attendant there (I've since learned that her name is Dee) greeted me with a smile, serviced me with the brightest of attitudes and was genuinely helpful. I've returned many a time after that (it's the nearest) on mud-rainy days, gloomy and or snowy days and Dee's always a bright light, as well as patient, super fast and efficient. No matter the line length, I know my wait won't be long. That's something we should bottle and scale. read more

This lady is THE WORST. I'm reading these reviews and all I can come up with is that these people are terrified of her. I own my own mail order business and have NEVER witnessed her being kind or friendly to someone. I've never had a contemptuous interaction with her and have never been anything other than honestly friendly and she's so angry the whole time about my prepackaged, pre-metered, pre-labeled mail. I do not know how I could make it any easier for her. The first time I went I asked her if it was ok to send my package with the preprinted label from that post office if the label had a different zip code on it and she would not respond with words or turn to look me in the eye, she just pointed at a basket I had to literally throw the package in to reach. The last time I went, I was seeking receipts for the packages I was dropping off. She told me I could have gotten a receipt when I printed the labels. Obviously, but I was seeking proof that I dropped them off and kindly mentioned that the last time I didn't get a receipt my package went missing for a month. She told me she couldn't scan them because the envelopes were curved, so she couldn't give me a receipt? Again, we don't know each other and I'm nice and there was no contempt. I'm like "ok, well can you check them in?" There must be a way to type in the tracking number without scanning, right? Nope. I can't help you. I asked if she weighed them all, and she's like "of course I did" and I watched her and I know she didn't. Guess what, the one she didn't weigh went missing for a month. And also, I went to the Devon post office two days later to mail IDENTICAL packages. Not a word from the people at the desk. They scanned them, put them in the bin, said thank you. No problems, no mention of curved envelopes. The packages arrived the next day. And they have buttons to press on your way out to let them know how they are doing, I always press the green smiley face, AND parking is free. Seriously, don't pay parking to go get abused by this lady who is going to lose your mail- possibly on purpose- and write weird fake reviews about how nice she is when you can have a nice experience elsewhere. read more

I have used this USPS office a few times SOLELY based on location convenience. The female that I interacted with yesterday (Oct. 11 at 2:00pm) and past times was extremely rude, did not make eye contact, dismissive, and bickering about how much her job sucked to another inside the office. It felt like a horrible interaction! She shouldn't be working there at all or needs serious training on how to provide good customer service. I would like to add to the slew of reviews citing an older female employee here as being quite unfriendly and rude as my reason for disdain with this location. It is the only location I've ever had trouble sending my packages because of her. I avoided it for a while solely because of her, even though it's right across from my workplace, then chanced it and actually had some good experiences--with OTHER employees. I got complacent only to then have another awful experience with her! Horrible experience. I usually don't review but this time I feel that I should. I get there this morning to send 2 postcards to my family. Initially, no one was there as no one was behind the counter. I said "good morning" ... no answer ... then, after I said "Good morning" for the second time, I have heard a voice saying: right there ... I lady arrived. I told her that I had to send two postcards to my family at Christmas. She then answered a personal call in the meantime she was providing me with the stamps I needed to send the postcards. There was absolutely zero effort to help me further and she was really rude to me. I get that you probably don't get paid a lot but this is still your job and I honestly shouldn't care. Well, it's just a retro branch post office. You get in line and deal with a live person (usually just one person, so prepare to be patient). Even if you get there just before they open up in the morning, you'll be, at best, the third person in line. The reason it's still here may be the small bank of P.O. boxes at the front and their unique convenience to both the Metra and CTA stations. And if driving, why fret about parking? It's Evanston, where meters still accept nickels and dimes because each is worth just a enough minutes to get your chore done. read more

Given the fact that this post office has usually one worker; I have always found the service to be professional, polite and under the circumstances of the holiday to be consistent. The woman who is often on the counter speaks clear concise instructions to everyone - never demeaning, even when some customers are rude. The attendant has the patience and attitude of a true servant and is always respectful. I applaud her tenacity and her work ethic. She gives top service. For years I've patronized the Davis St. Post Office because I believed that I'd get better service from the central location than my local branch. But several months ago, after contending with continually declining service, I began to visit the Main Street Post Office and have become a believer! Dee is pleasant to one and all, offers helpful suggestions and explanations, is fast and efficient -- in short, she's a great customer service provider. Recently I've noticed some upgrades to the space -- decorated windows, new handicapped door, etc. -- that shows that this branch really cares about the neighborhood and its residents. This location is the worst. I not only got hung up on when I called to see where my package was, I also called back and was put on hold for 20 minutes and hung up on again. The lady on the phone was extremely rude and when I finally called back an hour later to talk to someone else, she told me she knew exactly who I was speaking of. I don't know why a business would hire someone with such poor social skills. The gift was for my boyfriend's birthday and it was late due to them not being able to locate where it was for days.
