Pick ups are not being communicated between the supervisors and the carriers. This is affecting my business.

I spoke with an unbelievably rude supervisor who refused to follow USPS policy regarding hand-over of mail that is being held (even with photo ID and proof of residence). I was given several different reasons why mail service was being refused. As a former mailman, I'm appalled at the lack of care and attention to detail. The mail in question was a check worth $3k and they consistently blamed the landlord, the Alderman's office, everybody but themselves for letting my mail get lost. I had to mail out invites to my mothers memorial service, and the gentleman working at the counter helped me calculate which stamps I needed for the unusual sized envelope. It has been 4 years since I wrote my last review and this post office is still as horrendous as ever. I pretty much expect to not receive my mail regularly anymore and when packages are marked delivered, I have to assume that means I will receive them in about a week because they have, in fact, never made it anywhere near my home. I've been waiting for my passport to be delivered since September; today is December 5th. I've tried calling this post office numerous times but they never answer. I had the "joy" of visiting this post office last week, since receiving the dreaded notification that my package was being held here "at customer's request." I requested no such thing & figured I could get this sorted out prior to starting my work day. I quickly got dressed & headed off. There is very limited parking, despite arriving just an hour after opening & of course, the line was long. There was also a notable horde of less than enthused people standing near a blue door. The gentleman assisting the line, was very polite & handed me a green sheet to put my tracking info, phone number, & address on, which was then added to a large pile. You're told you'll be called when your package is ready. This is where it gets bad. After waiting 20+ minutes, a woman appears at the door, tells everyone they should leave as no more than 10 people can be in the lobby at once. I get it - we're in the middle of a pandemic. This did little to get people to leave & I could tell her patience was wearing thin. After waiting another 30+ minutes, she reappears & when I was asked what I was waiting for, I told her it was a package. At this point, I was told to go home & I would be called. Admittedly, this was not how I wanted to spend my morning, & even worse, waste time only to be turned away. I hate being late for work & having to stay later for reasons out of my control. Upon arriving home, I submitted a ticket online (as I have before for packages), & sulked. Do yourself a favor if you find yourself in my position & submit a ticket instead. My package was finally delivered the next day - by a postal carrier who was not wearing a mask, might I add. I mailed a couple of small packages from this post office on December 26, 2024. The postal worker who took care of me was Martrice. I didn't have to wait in line for long because there were just three customers ahead of me (the time was 4:35 PM) . When my turn came up Martrice greeted me and promptly weighed my packages. She explained to me the various mailing options and I made my selections. I was very satisfied with Martrice's courteous manner and her competent and expeditious processing of my packages. I am giving her a 5-star review because I was perfectly satisfied with the quality of her service to me. read more

When I dropped off package here, the package was open by somebody and half of the items (over $1500 in value) were missing! They paid me $200 with the insurance. If you still decide to ship something with them, make sure you get the insurance for the value of the whole package. read more

This is not only the most abysmal post office I have ever seen, it is one of the most execrable businesses I've witnessed, with the most appalling customer service. I arrived, waited for 20 minutes. The behind the counter yelled at me "I will never help you, no matter how long you wait. I don't do nothing else, other than passports. That's all I do, all day, passports!" When I said, "I have a lost package" i was told "call the number, can't help you with that." I offered to wait several hours until they closed. "Sorry, I ain't never gonna help you, no matter how long you wait." When I approached the counter politely and tried to get her name and badge number, she screamed, "GET AWAY FROM MY COUNTER! SIR I'M ORDERING YOU TO LEAVE!" And all this after they apparently misdelivered my package to the wrong address. I will go out of my way to never use the U.S. mail again for packages - at least, as long as I'm dealing with this branch. My wife also informed me that they apparently have posted a sign recently that says "No customer service help available." The government needs to shut this place down. read more

I checked the usps website and it show walk in hours for passport are 10 am to 11am. 1723 W DEVON AVE CHICAGO, IL 60660. When I showed up we have been told there is no more walking hours according to usps - which the website claim diffrent. When you see a price in the store you get the price. I know the only thing worse than having to go to the Post Office is having to work for it, but the employees are the literal worst. They hate their jobs and make it everyone else's problem. If I had a dollar for every time I had to waste my time hunting down a lost package (often having to return multiple times), I'd have enough money to start a competitive package delivery service. The employees are rude and seem to get a power trip over making people wait for as long as possible, as well as being rude and belligerent to all who enter. Going in for a root canal is less painful than having to take a trip to the Rogers Park post office. read more

Coin toss on if your package gets delivered if you take it here. Dropped off 6 boxes, all identical on April 20, three were scanned in and delivered, and three state that "a label has been created and the post office is awaiting package." Not so! I watched all 6 boxes be rolled away in the cart into the back room. So where are the other 3 boxes? I'm also missing an international package. Same situation. Never scanned in, or was it stolen? Is it sitting back in some cart somewhere? Can't get an answer. Filing an inquiry online is worthless, they keep telling me they are "awaiting my package," which they already have received more than a week ago. It does not take 10 days for a small box to travel from Chicago to Madison, WI. I could have walked it there by now. I am so over this post office. It should be closed. This is the worst post office I've had the displeasure of working with. I understand packages and mail are arriving later than expected because of the pandemic, but get your scanning sh*t together. This is the second time I've come here because when I track a package it shows it's 'held for pickup' at this location only to drive here wait in an obnoxious line and be told there's some mistake and the package is on the truck and out for delivery. I live in a neighborhood where packages are stolen so I order packages to be delivered when I'm home. They scan items as 'delivery attempted' when no such attempt was made as I was home awaiting their arrival. So my current review is based on about 5-8 visits over the past few years. I will say in the past, this office has been a mess. From long lines to standard USPS supplies not present in the designated stand, I always dreaded coming here. However based on the last two visits (one during the week - midday and the other Sat at Noon), I feel any issues this post office has had are being addressed. I think the most obvious tell are the number of employees working at the terminals. Also the place looks cleaner and overall the employees have a much more positive attitude. I do hope this trend continues. Just be cautious as they do issue tickets in along Devon if do not pay the meters. read more

This office had to be the basis for caricature of horrible government service. One snippy clerk who announced he was not available since he was taking passport appointments. He told people to use self service. Line was moving glacially as many learning how to use this technology. One elderly man wanted to ask a question and he told him to come back in 30 minutes. After I waited in line 25 minutes I realized the self service kiosk didn't work properly. The other clerk arrived 30 minutes later and ignored all the customers while she sorted packages with her headphones on. Both employees looked dressed for the beach or to clean out a garage. This is another caricature of insufferable and entitled government employees. this branch is clearly poorly managed and the employees don't know how to provide basic customer service. left without mailing my package. read more

This post office is so enraging that I actually made a Yelp account to vent. If that doesn't give you an idea I don't know what will. Packages are randomly 'attempted' to be delivered when a truck doesn't even drive down your street. Support is slow to get back to you, 2-3 days later by phone and email when you open a case. Then the support people just apologize and do nothing. I'm just tired of opening tickets for lost packages that aren't lost, this is the 4th time now. At least they managed to get me my Home Depot order 2 months late. Honestly at this point I think it's better to just fire the staff, burn the building down, and have another district's USPS take this one over. Maybe completely phase out USPS? Horrible service on Mondays! If I have a package due for delivery Monday late in day 7PM or so it will be marked as "No access to delivery location". This is Bull Crap. We have a vestibule which is always open and there is a a Post Office lock box in there with a key to the security door. On top of it there is a well marked place smaller packages can be slid in from vestibule. It also bugs me that they don't even ring my Buzzer! I am here 24/7 because I am disabled. We have "Mail Lady" who delivers here most of the time and is wonderful. She must be off Mondays. This is also being forwarded to our Alderman an to our Congresswoman. Post Office at1723 W Devon in Roger's Park was not open on this Christmas Eve morning 2022 @8:30am.I arrived at 8:50 and after 9am went to back of building and asked mail carriers who were loading their trucks and was told the employee who would work the front was in the bldg,and would let him know,no one came to unlock the door it got to be 9:30 and I left.This is unprofessional on many levels.At least put a note on door saying opening at 10a or whatever,but don't leave people waiting out in the cold! If I could give negative stars I would. That's how TERRIBLE this office is. They lose keys to our building over 5x now which means they never deliver mail on time. By the time the mail/packages arrive it's 2 weeks old or often it will never arrive. When you go to the office they have no remorse and are unbothered. I see them everyday in my neighborhood delivering other people mail yet somehow never my building. This is the better post office around this area north of Chicago still is very slow asking customers to fill multiple forms just to send a package. For sure never save your information on a database so you have to put your information over and over no matter if you came here every day. Totally inefficient. Every time I come to this post office I have a bad experience. Every time I look for priority Mail boxes, there aren't any in the sizes I need and the people working there are extremely rude. Today in particular, on Monday, April 5th at 1:50 there were only two people working a woman and a man. I asked the woman if I could have a packaging slip to place a postage label on my flat rate box, which I've received numerous times in the past. She held up a different kind of slip than I requested and said it was for customers only. I tried to point to the specific packaging slip I wanted, thinking she misunderstood me. She repeated the same thing, then turns to the man working with her and it front of all the other customers says, "What other language can I say this for her to understand?" This post office is the 7th level of hell. I moved to Rogers Park in 1993 and it has always been hell. My solution? Have every damn thing delivered to work and a po box up in Evanston. Eta, the wee post office way north on Paulina is generally awesome, but their hours kinda suck. Also, ya'll know how much of this stuff you can do online? Well, not package pick-up obviously. I think this locations service depends on which employee you encounter. I've have negative and positive experiences- If you have a labeled package, need stamps, or dropping something, you will be in and out with no problem. If you need to purchase something (stamps.. send a package), then it is a very slow service and lines will be out of the door during rush hours!!
