It's impossible to get any help at this post office. Every time I've been in there I've waited 10 plus minutes to see someone, or waited so long I had to just walk out and come back another day. All I ever need to do is drop off a prepaid package so it can be shipped. There's a front desk but I'd bet $100 every time you go in there, there won't be a SOUL manning that front desk. Horrible! If our postal carrier is off for a day or two, no mail is delivered. Our postal carrier is the BEST and she truly cares. She understands people are receiving some important things (checks, medication, etc) and wants to insure everyone gets their mail. There have been times I have seen a postal truck on my street and have to ask if they have a package for me (one I have been expecting) and they usually do and will give it to me (last guy was just hanging out in his truck on his phone). I'm in the service business and work in the outdoor elements and will always do what I can to provide service so I get extra irritated! read more

There is one girl who is great--if I were a decent human being I would remember her name, but alas, I am not. However, the rest of the people that work here are unbearably rude and difficult. Let it be known that I have worked in customer service for my entire life and I know that it's hard to be nice to difficult customers, which is why I do my best to be an easy customer. Incompetent and dreadfully-unreliable. Graceland Annex has delivered mail to my business at a rate of 50% for nearly 3 years. I have missed deadlines on bill payments and had to pay late fees, been forced to chase down thousands of dollars of mailed checks which never arrived, and recently received a penalty for not submitting tax forms which were never delivered to the State revenue department. I have made countless complaints to the office itself, the Chicago main office, and even the USPS central office. Things improve for a few weeks, then the carriers fall off the map once again. Going off from Jaclyn Z's review... we dealt with that same lady when we dropped off our packages. We politely asked her if we can get our packages scanned in (because if they don't, they will definitely get lost in the mail which has happened countless of times). She takes her time which isn't a big deal, but what was a big deal was that she kept dropping them & was careless about it. My husband sells used motorcycle parts so some of the items need to be handled with at least some care. When she was done, she told him the next time he comes in, he needs to go to another post office if we have that many packages to scan in (we had 8). Like seriously? What made me write this review was because of her comment & today, my husband gets an email from the customer who received one of our packages. It is a rim of a tire and was completely fine when we gave it to the post office. The customer sends in a pic and it's completely bent.. My apartment gets a notice that mail can't be delivered due to the mail-person not being able to enter the building. All mail must be picked up in 10 days or they'll be sent back to the deliverer. You can pick up your mail during 8AM-5PM M-F or 8AM-2PM on Saturday. *Insert eye roll emoji* If you miss one chance to pick it up that Saturday, then you're forced to go during the hours that everyone works and can't possibly get there in time unless you have to go to work later or something. I came to the station, give my ID, and was told I needed a piece of mail with my address on it. Luckily I had a piece of mail with me or I would have been pissed and shiz out of luck. This was ridiculous since there was no where on the first notice that stated you had to bring something with your name AND address on it. Plus, they won't even let you pick up mail for your roommates. I DON'T SEE WHY NOT SINCE IT'S THE SAME DAMN ADDRESS. LIKE. WTF. If you had delivered it, I'd have access to it just the same. Alright class, today we're going to learn a new vocabulary word: AMBIVALENCE. Abivalence was how I used to feel when I would pick up missed packages at Graceland Annex. I neither loved nor hated the experience. Ambivalence was used by the clerks when they would slowly shuffle away to retrieve my package after slopping out a few words that were supposed to sound like, "Can I help you?" The packages were never broken or chewed on, so I chalked up my experiences to.... yes, Ambivalent. All of those ambivalent feelings towards Graceland Annex came to a screeching halt last week when my mail courier continued to leave menacing pink notes reading "NO ENTRY, NO DELIVERY". No beuno! So instead of hiding behind my bushes from 9:00am-3:00pm, waiting for the exact time to spring out and scream at her, "give me my mail, woman!! Why are you suddenly not delivering my mail?!?", I called Graceland to see what the problem was. And called... and called... oh no worries, each time I spoke with a semi-living human being; but that dear old friend Ambivalence was there to slap me through the phone line in the form of 15-20 minute waiting periods. Every time I called, "Just one moment...." and then nothing for a reeeeeeeally long time. So I give up, Graceland Annex. Your ambivalence way out strides mine. Even though the building has "POST OFFICE" in large, capitalized font on the front of the building, you can only send 'out of town' mail that's already PRE-PAID. It took me 10 minutes to find this out since the employees were busy doing their own thing BUT customer service. It's not a surprise since Chicago's mail has been notorious for being among the worst in the nation. The only reason you'd come here is if you have an undeliverable or missing package/letter...and best of luck with that! I am a customer. I should park in "customer parking" without any trouble. I should be able to enter the building and pick up my package in a timely manner by efficient and courteous staff. Unfortunately, these things are not possible. I have had to pick up packages from this location a few times a year for the past 5 years and have never had this experience. The parking lot will be filled with cars when I am the only person in the waiting area. Cars with "US GOVERNMENT" license plates in the customer parking area. Surly and rude attendants have taken between 2-3 minutes (and several 'doorbell rings') to come to the window. Retrieving my parcel can take between 3 and 15 minutes. The contempt for customers shines through with every transaction. I know the postal service is broken, but I didn't break it and it's not my job to fix it. I just want to get my packages without being forced to find metered parking on the street and without being sneered at. read more

With the exception of maybe calling Comcast, i dread nothing more than having to pick up a package at this place. I have picked up at least 20 packages here in the last 2 years and only once did I get prompt, polite and competent service. A trip to this place generally plays out as follows: 1. Enter the building and find the front door with door with nobody there. You ring the bell for assistance and cross your fingers that someone will come help you. 2. After 1-4 bell ringing attempts, someone will come waddling up to the service window and ask what you need. 3. You present them with a package slip that one of their carriers left in your mailbox and they head out to search for your package...and here is where it gets really interesting. 4. If you are lucky, they come back with the package. If you are not they say they can't find it. Now in normal circustances with a shipping company you would use a trackcing number and look up the package in a computer system right? Not here...instead you get "Did you call your driver?" - Postal Worker "ummmm no......I don't know my driver" - Me "Let me write down his cell on this piece of paper" - Postal Worker "But can't you use the slip I just gave you to track it down" - Me "No you gonna have to call the driver" - Postal Worker "errrrrrr....you want me to call the guy who delivers the mail to me, even though he left a slip in my mailbox telling me to come here" - Me "yep" - postal worker "Well what about that package right behind you that has my name on it" - Me "That section isn't for your area, it wouldn't be in there" - Postal Worker "But it has my name on it in big black letters and i'm pretty sure there aren't too many people with my last name in the world......i know" - Me "Let me see if someone else knows where it is" - Postal Worker The entire time i see my package sitting 10 feet behind this person and another worker shows up, repeate the dialogue above however this time i get more forcefull and start pointing to the package which they finally relent and go check and then bring back realizing that its mine. THIS SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED TO ME MORE THAN ONCE. This place is a very difficult to deal with. read more

Let's see where to start. Can I count on my postal carrier to leave a notice when my package requires signiture confirmation? Not a chance! Can I count on my postal carrier to pick up a package that I have scheduled to be picked up via the USPS "convenient" package pick up service? No way! Can I count on anyone that I talk to following up on doing anything they say they are going to do without having to call at least 3 times to make sure they are doing their job correctly. Sure thing! I have found that if I want my packages delivered if they require signature confirmation or if I want them even to be picked up (Even though I send online forms that probably are ignored) I have to call the post office and ask for my carrier at 9am. But that's not before having the phone ring for 3-5 minutes before anyone picks up. If I could retreive the packages myself I would but I have to rely on sometimes incompetent people who don't seem to care about customer service. read more

If only it were possible to confer 0 stars...giving this place even one star seems outrageous. My mail forward was supposed to begin 2/6. It's now 3/1 and I still have yet to receive a piece of mail here at my new Lakeview address. All my mail is being returned to senders. I have called a dozen times, speaking with a "Miss Keys" who each time laboriously re-takes my information (though I can't imagine she is actually writing anything down) and promises to call me back in x minutes. I have yet to receive a single call back. She even lied once and said she left a voicemail (there was no voicemail nor was I having cell issues) and then stated she no longer had the information she left in this alleged voicemail. Bottom line - I ended up forwarding my mail to my family home in Hinsdale. The Oak Brook post office (stellar, competent, efficient people - polar opposite of the lazy brutes at Graceland) achieved this in a 5 minute call and promised to alert the carrier personally. I'm not sure where or how one can complain about a post office's service but this is by far the worst I have ever dealt with -- in the world. Even in Paris, whose "La Poste" I had heretofore considered the most inefficient postal institution globally...but at least they actually do send and deliver mail, eventually. NOTE: You can't buy stamps or send letters here. It's for package / mail pick-up only. Every time I have to go here I leave filled with rage. There usually isn't anyone at the window, so sometimes you have to walk around the premises trying to track down an employee who will listen to you. The worst part of the service is the indifference. Last time I was there, there was a mob of customers who had been waiting in line for 20 minutes. They rang the bell consistently every 15 seconds and called out, "Hello?" as uniformed workers milled about inside, not bothering to look over at us. This place is the absolute epitome of bureaucracy and red tape. During my 20+ minutes in line, I usually think of schemes for how I could open a private postal service and scoop up all of USPS's business in no time by merely showing up for work. But then I realize that would be against federal law... which is why any of these horrendous USPS post offices stay in business in the first place. read more

If I could give negative stars to the Graceland Annex, I would but tragically that is not an option. My experiences here are far from pleasant and I always leave frustrated. I am forced to pick up my packages at Graceland because my mail carrier never makes an attempt to call us even though my husband works from home every day and I am frequently home. Because we were awaiting a piece of art, I knew that the package would be in a large flat box. I saw one laying across the back shelf and asked the woman to check which she barely glanced upon and said that it was not mine. 25 minutes later and with the help of another male employee, he came back around the the flat package and discovered that indeed it was mine. The woman said, "Oh, I read the wrong address." (SHE LOOKED AT THE SENDERS ADDRESS. No wonder she couldn't "find" my package.) While this was happening suggestions of, "You need to call your driver to find your package." and "I don't know where your package is." and "I can't help you." were told to me. Worst part of all of this, when I arrived home, there was another slip in my mailbox. read more

There was a week this fall where no one on our street got mail, when I called this P.O I was told that indeed, no mail had been delivered. I had been waiting for a package, and needed it on this day ( it was already more than a week late). I had to send my sister in law to get it while I was at work. This is not how mail is supposed to work. Now I am waiting on a package that was shipped 3 weeks ago. When I called they were no help, then they told me they were transfering me, and I was on hold for a LONG time, and no one ever spoke to me. I still don't have my package. read more

Started a case with the usps and they tell me that their driver didn't follow proper protocol and scanned my package in the street and not at my building. The young woman who helped me retrieve my package was very courteous and friendly, and promptly got my package for me. I was originally weary to go here due to the bad reviews, but my experience was quite great when it comes to Post Office visits. Worst post office ever, not that it's a surprise. Person on the route didn't deliver a package because they couldn't lift it. Had to go through hoops and jumps to try to get it delivered, but they didn't know who was working what routes, when, who could lift it, etc. It's a 30 pound package and no one could deliver it. I was told that a "truck" would deliver it out of a "courtesy" for the carrier. Still was not delivered. I was told to call in the morning if I wanted to come pick it up myself, but of course they don't pick up the phone. USPS is such a useless service. I try really hard to be nice to workers here because I realize that this is probably a miserable place to work, but it's really hard to rationalize the way they treat customers. They frequently interrupt me while I am reading tracking numbers or spelling my last name to them, and shift blame for losing packages to their coworkers. They are get so mad if you tell them your packages have been lost (even if you use very neutral blame-free language). It's honestly mindboggling. I have never had an international package delivered without having to jump through hoops. I have even had them schedule signature-required redeliveries without first asking me if I will be home or telling me when it will be delivered, just "I gave it to the courier, they'll get there when they get there." I sincerely wish I didn't have to deal with this branch. read more

Stood in the lobby for 10 minutes ringing a doorbell, which I could hear through the door. Then I finally called to tell them a line was waiting in their lobby. The woman then came to the window and asked if I had rang the doorbell (clearly it's a concept that went over my head). They can't find my package and then they tried to tell me I signed for it on the day I got the notice... How does that work?! The most laughable part is the giant sign behind them that reads: "Service, it's in our name." I guess one can interpret that as shitty service is still a form of service, which is what I experienced. Btw, they never found my package. Shocking. read more

UPS transferred my package to Graceland (mistake) and I didn't see it until 6 days after expected delivery date. Called facility and phone was answered by a VERY rude woman. Not pleasant, asks "why am I calling" with extreme attitude. After she talks over me multiple times, she puts me on hold for a good 7 minutes to go "look" for my package. Call is picked up by another woman. Turns out the previous woman put me on hold and proceeded to go on her lunch break, not look for my package. I was asked for my name and number and was told that I would receive a call back regarding my lost package that day. Nope. Had to call back three days later. I had a great experience @ this post office - I was trying to track down some missing mail. I was helped immediately by a very pleasant and professional postal worker. I am only sorry I did not get her name - she made eye contact, smiled, repeated back to me what I asked and provided me with the correct and needed information to resolve my issue. In addition, while she was off looking into it, two other staff asked if I needed assistance - could not have been nicer.
