I was completely shocked that he would take the time to call me and reassure me that he was taking ALL my mail back to the post office so I could pick it up the next day. Sure enough I called him to just tell him I was at the post office to pick up my mail and he was more than happy to bring it down to my car, since it was a good amount of mail. What a gentleman, he was so nice and informative on what I should do to get my mail. I just want him to be acknowledged because I must be honest I had no faith in the postal service workers I had some bad experiences, but Mr. Reed changed that with his kindness. They never have enough people working and the only working man is honestly one of the sweetest employees I've ever met. He's very sweet but they need to hire 83 of him. Please hire more people at this location! It does get fairly busy after work and I went at 10:30am on a Thursday and there wasn't anyone behind the counter for 15 minutes as an associate was belong locate a package for a lady-which is so nice of him but where is everyone else?! Some people even left the line as it was so crowded and they only had a limited time frame to come here. It was that bad! I've come here before when I've had packages to just drop and I use the kiosk but this time I had to go up there personally. The man on the left always takes customer service the extra mile and makes conversation and makes the patron feel welcome, so I have no complaints about him, but they need to employ more employees to help this poor man! This post office is a case of hiding in plain sight. I had no idea there was a USPS substation…read morelocated in the lower level of the John Hancock building. I only found out recently, as I had gone into the Starbucks to dispose of a coffee cup from another, nearby Starbucks (true story). There was one customer at the counter and another standing in line in front of me. The customer at the counter appeared to have a complex inquiry, but it was nothing that got heated. The customer standing in line was able to make use of one of the post office boxes mounted on the wall, so I catapulted right to the front. Despite the fact that there was only one postal worker at the counter, I was able to get my package mailed quickly and efficiently. I was provided a receipt with tracking info, and the package was delivered as promised. Definitely will be coming back here for routine postal matters so that I do not have to brave the Loop location that can at times be Kafkaesque.

Today's interaction, however, makes me question whether I will ever come here again. My purpose was to apply for a first time passport. I thought I had done everything correctly; forms completed, supporting documents, photos, payment method and an appointment. An employee, who turned out to be the passport agent, told me someone would be with me shortly. I said I had an appointment and I was aware I had to wait because I was early. She responded that she saw me and did not need explanations. I did not realize there was a waiting area for passport applicants, passport photos were being taken in the area, so I continued to stand outside the area. When it was time for the next applicant, I wasn't sure if it was my turn because there is no check-in system and someone had walked in while I wasn't sure waiting. I went to the agent's window and asked if she meant me or the other applicant. She responded with, "Does she have an appointment?" She continued to be abrupt and dismissive. I am always polite, my mother would have beat the crap out of me as a child if I wasn't. I do not understand the necessity of her negative attitude and her impatience to complete the transaction. I understand that they allow 15 minutes per appointment. I was done in 8 minutes. This agent needs to be retrained in customer service protocols immediately. USPS, get your act together!

We live in a 2 family and our mail comes from this location (when it comes at all). We do not get our mail everyday and when we do, sometimes it doesn't come until later in the evening. Our current experience is that two packages were to be delivered on the 2nd and it is now the 6th and no notices have been left, no rings to the doorbell (I work from home), and obviously no left packages. We have left notes on our gate asking that they ring the bell or leave the packages (putting our signatures on the note) and nothing. On top of all that, the tracking site shows that a notice was left Saturday and Monday. Clearly they were not. I finally went down to this location today and spoke with Noah at the service door. He spent almost 10 minutes digging through packages looking for ours, as well as another guy's who was waiting as well. He did not find them but took my number and said he would follow up. He was professional, polite, and did all that he could at the moment and that was far more than I was expecting from anyone in the postal system here in Chicago.

This location is extremely poorly managed, and my experiences here have been consistently negative. I have never encountered such a lack of accountability or professionalism. Legitimate complaints are met not with solutions, but with what feels like retaliation--such as packages being mysteriously "misdelivered" or marked delivered when they never arrive. In one instance, a package was thrown over a fence into a vacant lot. In another, a package was marked as delivered but never reached my mailbox, and I have video proof no attempt was made. I have also had packages marked as "attempted delivery, customer requested hold at post office," which is completely false--I have never requested this. My mail and packages are sometimes held at the post office simply because the route carrier does not want to deliver them. Interestingly, substitute carriers consistently deliver my mail correctly and are professional and pleasant. The issues occur only with the regular route carrier. Where I come from, feedback and complaints are addressed proactively and used to correct problems. Here, I have been repeatedly gaslit, told that I am wrong, discouraged from complaining, and ultimately blamed for issues that are clearly not of my making. The manager never resolves anything and deflects responsibility instead of taking corrective action. This is a clear case of mismanagement. Customers should not be treated this way, and ongoing service failures should not be ignored or blamed on the person reporting them. I am now taking my paper trail and evidence to OIG since nothing was resolved.

One time I ordered something for same-day delivery, and even though I got there, an hour and a half after it was delivered, that package was already gone. Yikes. Hence, I thought I'll them shipped to a government building where it should be pretty safe. Now, I do want to mention, Amazon *can* deliver to a Locker or a Whole Foods, but not everything. Further, anything sent to me my non-Amazon can't go in a locker or Whole Foods. Now, while items delivered to the PO box would be held in relative safety, me getting it is another story. At the start, I found that packages weren't getting to me, with the clerk telling me that if there's no yellow slip in the PO box, then it hasn't been processed yet. Turns out, no. When the PO box was rented, cardboard was not removed from the back of it, which apparently signified that that said PO box was unoccupied. After lots of frustration, we finally figured out that, "oh, wait a minute, that cardboard shouldn't be there!" Okay, well now we removed it. I think it should be on the up and up from here, right? Not really. Not too long ago, I had a package that was shown as delivered and I came two days and some hours later to pick it up. I look in my PO box, and there's nothing. No package, no yellow slip, nada. I go to the clerk who tells me that after it arrives in the building, it takes two to three days to get processed. Really? After mail is delivered to the post office, it has to take an additional couple of days to get sub-delivered to the very same post office? Sure, it's a big building, but that doesn't make sense. Two more things about this location that have me pulling my fair out: 1. While to be fair, during my visits it wasn't super busy, there's usually only one or two people working behind the counter. 2. This post office allegedly has their street addressing service. That means that your PO box comes with a real street address you can use in additional to the standard "PO Box 1234 Chicago, Illinois." However, all but one of the staff seemed to have no idea what I'm talking about and what that address would be, even though I later saw it on a poster in the PO box area. Finally, if there is one area where I want to give them some points, it's that their hours are truly fantastic. They are open seven days a week, and on working days until midnight. This is perfect for me to be able to pick up my PO box items after work, even if I have to work a little bit late or if I need to mail something on a Sunday. Oh yes, and I almost forgot. The US Postal Service is kind of like Google... you can't really avoid it, unless you're going to send Christmas cards by FedEx. Just so, whether it's personally or where my job touches postal matters, it seems severe delays are as rampant as theft at my building.
