If I could give zero stars, I would. Something weird is definitely going on with this USPS location. This location is extremely poorly managed, and my experiences here have been consistently negative. I have never encountered such a lack of accountability or professionalism. Legitimate complaints are met not with solutions, but with what feels like retaliation--such as packages being mysteriously "misdelivered" or marked delivered when they never arrive. In one instance, a package was thrown over a fence into a vacant lot. In another, a package was marked as delivered but never reached my mailbox, and I have video proof no attempt was made. I have also had packages marked as "attempted delivery, customer requested hold at post office," which is completely false--I have never requested this. My mail and packages are sometimes held at the post office simply because the route carrier does not want to deliver them. Interestingly, substitute carriers consistently deliver my mail correctly and are professional and pleasant. The issues occur only with the regular route carrier. Where I come from, feedback and complaints are addressed proactively and used to correct problems. Here, I have been repeatedly gaslit, told that I am wrong, discouraged from complaining, and ultimately blamed for issues that are clearly not of my making. The manager never resolves anything and deflects responsibility instead of taking corrective action. This is a clear case of mismanagement. Customers should not be treated this way, and ongoing service failures should not be ignored or blamed on the person reporting them. I am now taking my paper trail and evidence to OIG since nothing was resolved. read more

Post office is terrible, this is a business and we have outgoing mail daily and mail carrier does not come inside to pick up or grab from our mailbox when red flag is up. I try calling only to never get an answer phone just rings. We need our mail picked up from our business on a daily business and request that the mail carrier rings bell to pick up mail at 1111 South Western Suite B. The staff was nice enough. BUT, I brought in a pre-paid "Click and Ship" package to them on March 5th. Tracking showed it as "received at Post Office", and then NOTHING. It's been one month, and there has been NO updated tracking, and the package has not been received by the person I sent it to. Jefferson were 6 to 14 years ago, so maybe those people have retired, because they just don't get the job done today , mail is not delivered, they don't want to go look for your mail when you haven't received it, and all they make is excuses and false promises. Was notified after 20 minutes of wait time that a clerk called off and replacement clerk did not have access to the system. Seven customers came in and seven customers left. I have never worked at a company that did not have a supervisor or manager to ensure operations continue with situations like this, if one person calls off, it should not shut down a post office location. I have noticed if I have anything a bit heavy, for the most part they will not deliver. I have been waiting for my packages all day, no one came but It said delivery attempted. I'm so tired of this happening. When I call they do fix the issues, but I'm tired of having to call, especially if I pay extra for shipping to get it here on time. I attempted to drop off a package at 116 S. Western Ave on 11/24/2021 around 4 PM and when I walked in there was NO ONE behind the front counters. There was a sign posted on the door and in the windows claiming the "system was down." Another customer waiting with me said that the same sign was up yesterday and that there was a line of people waiting and no one ever came out to explain what was going on. Two days in a row the employees just put up a sign and hang out in the back? How is that acceptable? After waiting with other customers for over 10 minutes, a short, dark-skinned man in a pink shirt comes out and asks me what I need. I asked him if the system being down meant I could not put my package in line to be scanned and mailed. He rudely replied: "what does the sign say??" When I told him I know how to read, but it was important I get my package shipped today and inquired about a queue I could leave it in to get scanned when the system was up again, he again stated rudely and aggressively: "what are you asking me, ma'am? Are you asking me if I can scan your package with our system down? No, I can't, the system is down. I told him that there should still be someone behind the front counter to explain this to customers, and as I went to leave, he actually came out into the lobby to confront me! I returned five minutes later (during which time their system miraculously started working again and all of the signs were gone) because I wanted to speak to another rep about the possibility of having my mail scanned, and the same man came out loudly proclaiming that the female employee at the front desk "could help me now" and that "they had no control over the system" and that (this INFURIATED me) that he would have told me that earlier if I hadn't been acting so "ignorant." Ignorant??? Really? How dare your employees to treat customers that way! At this point, we got into a loud argument in front of a line of people, and this supervisor proceeds to GET IN MY FACE, charging me and calling me names before walking away. He refused to give me his name and position. He refused to give me a number for corporate or the name of his supervisor. I part of this interaction recorded and am debating posting it. People need to know how this location operates. The behavior this man exhibited was frightening and racist. He would not have called me ignorant if I were a man or a woman of another race. He would not have spoken to me rudely in our initial interaction if he valued his position and his company. Your employees do not get to fake system outages so they can get time to "hang out" in the back rooms. Your employees do not get to mistreat customers who call them out on their misbehavior and simply want to take advantage of the service USPS is supposed to offer everyone. That supervisor (who the female employee told me is named "Carl" but that's probably not true,) needs to be fired before his anger issue causes him to hurt a customer. Who knows how many people in the area were denied service due to his lack of supervisory skills and racist ignorance. USPS has enough problems without a person like Carl on their staff. This needs to be addressed. *By the way, the lovely lady at the front counter was very pleasant and informed me that I absolutely COULD HAVE left my package in a queue to be scanned after I had left. If a Post Office did not deliver your mail but said it was delivered in their website for this tracking number. It should be given ZERO star. But I had to choose one star for this review. Here is my experience for this local post office. The USPS website said they delivered my mail at 3:19 pm on September 4, 2021 in CHICAGO, IL 60612 (Saturday) with the tracking number for my priority mail. But they did not deliver it at all because my building had front desk staff working all day and they did not see any USPS car or people showed up at all and my mail was not received at all. Please note this is a very important mail which carries my EAD card for my working permit. I spent more than 3 months for its approval and my work starting date is approaching within two weeks! I am so concerned by this delivery misinformation and was not able to sleep during the weekend. I think they did not improve the accuracy of their online information. This kind of bad behavior will make so many customers under much pressure since they are very concerned that their key mail will be lost due to this misinformation. The damage cannot be easily assessed by money... I have to wait until Tuesday to figure out what's happening to my mail. Because tomorrow is the Labor Day and USPS is closed. God bless me! Despite all the negative complaints about many of the USPS locations around Chicago they have never gave me any issues, and I'm a regular shipper. The clerks have enough to deal with and on top of that you have bitter customers complaining because things are not go their way. I ask you what would you do if you were that clerk that has to deal with a line of several angry customers. Complaining and speaking to the supervisor will not do anything because trust me just like this post office there are many others that have to deal with a large herd of customers. Might as well just add your complaint into the "suck it up buttercup" complaint box because it won't get fixed. If your impatient then get on your phone and surf the internet to kill time or simply just leave and go elsewhere. Complaining does not help anything because trust me in a demanding job like USPS that supervisor will take that clerks word over your bitter word any day. As for this location and many others around Chicago, I have never had any problems with any of them. Many of my packages have always shipped out on time and have made it to my buyers on time. I have had more successful ship outs than unsuccessful ship outs which I'm very thankful for. The real praise goes to USPS for their hard work. If you are pressed for time just leave and come back at a different time when the herd has cleared out. Simple as that! It is you that have control over that, so why transfer your bitter energy to others which in the end gives USPS clerks a hard time when their only doing their best. As for parking I have not had any issues with that because I come long before the herd arrives. Horrible, tacky, unorganized post office. The only saving grace is the two ladies who are always at the front. They're very sweet. Other than that, avoid this post office at all costs unless you have to go here. For the past couple of months, I'm not sure what has been going on, but people have not been receiving their mail causing super long lines and waits. The ladies at the front have to go to the back to look for people's lost mail and that takes forever. I wish they would hire someone to help in the back or deliver the mail. If the mail carriers weren't so busy cursing people out for asking if they received a package (this happened to me in summer 2017, the same woman usually delivers mail currently), they would probably be on point. It definitely is antiquated, the floors may creak when you walk, but all in all it is still a good neighborhood post office where you can still get your basic necessities of stamps, send packages while you are asked to put your item inside the glass (plexi) case. Although the neighborhood has seen a major overhaul of the area with gentrification in the last few years, this place still does in well. It is not by any means like many of the other sites, it is old looking and still has a feel of real nostalgia, but it works, and I think that is the important thing. I will let you know off the bat that the parking lot is small and maybe can accommodate less than 10 cars, but there is street parking, if your lucky. read more

This review is solely for the drivers responsible for mail & package delivery. It should be 1 star. We have gone almost 2 weeks with no mail & then one day we can barely open the box. All deliveries are sent to a business address & we always receive emails saying that we were closed & that sucks for us, wait til the next day ... or three and maybe it will be delivered. Clearly the employees aren't doing their job daily... if a customer who lives exactly 1 mile from the location & is always staffed / open- Iniw know ringing a doorbell can sometimes require a bachelors degree .... It's nearly useless to complain, as nothing has changed in 3+ years_ The customer service phone line & clerks/ have always been super helpful & great to work with, it's sad that they actually pay people daily to do a job but nothing is required & never followed up with. After reading all the other reviews I am putting in my two cents as well---I have had numerous issues of packages vanishing, being marked as delivered (while I am home with working buzzer and large mailbox that will 100% fit these packages) and being returned to sender. I've had three packages completely go missing, never to be seen again, multiple packages (including envelope mail) simply be returned to sender, and other packages being haphazardly thrown or even left on the sidewalk (not doorstep) where cars can easily run over it or a stray individual can scoop it up and walk away with it. Calls to the post office may as well be calls to a black hole--I've been given multiple excuses: mail carrier is new, mail carrier is sick, mail carrier doesn't know where your mailbox is. If I am mistaken, the postal carrier's job is to place mail in the correct mail box, not give a flimsy excuse such as "she couldn't find the mailbox." I've resorted to labeling the box with big signs, taping signs up and around the area saying "please leave here", and other various tactics including leaving keys with the carrier so she doesn't just leave my stuff on a sidewalk. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Packages disappear into the ether, packages are thrown on the grass, packages are delivered late after 3 calls to the office...etc. It is infuriating that the postal service continues to get away with this--I've escalated to the post office general as well as the post office regulatory commission and gotten machine, generic responses of "contact your local post office". Essentially, if you can get packages redirected to a different address, do it. This office is horribly incompetent with workers that are clearly not qualified to do their jobs. read more

One of the wost Postal Services I have ever experience. I believe if you live in the 60612 zip code area you deal with the constant crap. If not, your one lucky bastard. Mail carriers can not distinguish the difference between letters or numbers. My IRS refund check was stolen this past March by a, Rochelle Smith, I just received a claim form from the IRS with a photo copy of a signature from said person. Either a postal employee stole it or it was delivered to the wrong address. Shows me how incompetent, unreliable and a bunch of thieves they are. Well this place definitely doesn't disappoint. If i could give this establishment negative stars, I would. The staff is unceasingly slow. The place is definitely far from understaffed. There are several staffers that stroll around in plain view of the customers. STILL WAITING I understand that perhaps these staffers are not responsible for the customer service area, but maybe if a little sense of urgency would help allay frustrated customers. Seriously do I have to give it a star? Worst post office EVER! Everything is antiquated including some of the staff. I cringe when a package comes USPS because they rarely try to deliver it and they never notify you of an attempt. I track my packages online to make sure they don't get lost. I went in onetime and they had some of my packages that had been "lost" for 3 months and when I pointed it out the worker just stared at me blankly! At my old location they would not deliver a package unless your name was on the box. At this post office I once had my mail held (never again) and half the mail I received was not mine. We periodically get mail deliver that is not ours and if our carrier is out sick they may not even attempt to deliver. The counter ladies are nice most of the time. Sadly I know them by name. The wait is long because there are no vending sites. I try to have important mail sent via email. I received a statement on a card I closed nearly a year later! The postal ladies are so nice but they move so slow!! everytime I'm in there it takes me 20 mins to get out of there. FYI their parking lot is so small maybe about 7 cars can fit in there but there is plenty of side street parking. The mail person in my area is always delievering the wrong mail to my house,I have received baby presents address to other people same address but a different street they really need to pay closer attention to that,of course I took the package back to the post office and their acted like it was no big deal. read more

This is the worst post office in Chicago! I have packages sent to my work because someone will be here to receive it, so I have no other choice but to have my mail filter through this post office. However, I would not recommend using this post office if you don't have to. Packages can take up 2 weeks extra to get delivered after hitting their location. I'm not sure what is going on with them, tracking will show that a package is out for delivery and then go back to the post office numerous times. All the while we are ALWAYS here Mon-Fri 7am-6pm at the office with a front door that has a mail slot and buzzer where an actual person comes to the door to open. In addition, all the workers at the actual post office have serious attitudes and do not want to really help you if you need it. They are pretty much rude and slow. The location opens at 9am, but if you go there early they often don't open their doors until like 9:15-9:25. All the while there will be a long line forming outside. I went there today at 11:30pm.. there was a line of about 8 people in front of me. 1 postal person working at the window, 3-4 people walking VERY SLOWLY, headphones on, not even wearing postal uniforms.. just walking back and forth behind the glass, pretending to do something.. clearly saving work when there is plenty to service. The line of 8 people took 1.5 hours. Customers were so angry they started yelling at the staff demanding supervisor and demanding that the people walking behind the glass counter pick up and open up new windows. The staff just looked with blank faces and did not do anything. At some point I even thought some customers in line will get into a fight. Ive seen bad, but this was the worst. That post office is controlled by woman with attitudes. I try to have patience being in customer service myself, knowing the public is hard to deal with. I say it comes with the job. My mailman is always on the phone as he delivers the mail and always has a bad attitude, why you have a job, a good job. I track my packages and he never delivers them when he says they should be delivered or he will say that no one was there to get the package, ring the bell please. This post office is a total shit hole. I've unfortunately been required to go here in person to mail things and to try to pick up packages, and there is always an excruciating wait. Give yourself at least an hour. All other reviews are completely accurate about numerous staff present but only one window being open. As for the actual mail delivery, if your home is being serviced by this location and you can divert packages and important correspondence to your office, DO IT! All my letters are always unreasonably delayed and my packages often take multiple attempts to deliver. I have been trying to find my package that they said was delivered. I talked to a Pierce yesterday at about 10am who said they would look for it and call back in fifteen minutes. 3 hours went by and i called back. No one answered. Over the next few hours i called maybe 20 times and no one answered! Around 7 that night i decided why not try calling again. Someone else finally answered and said that Pierce had gone home. Well no shit i thought! He took down my info and said Pierce would call back in the morning. So this morning came and no call. No surprise i guess. I called at 11am. No answer. I decided i would try and find another number and i finally did. I called it and guess who answered, pierce! He said he was working on trying to find it. He talked to the carrier who said he delivered everything but nothing specific about my package... i said ok so i guess it might be stolen so what do we do? Pierce said he would keep looking but his superior would be out of a meeting in an hour and he and i could talk. So i said, to reiterate his point, "so i should expect a call from your superior in an hour to try and resolve this?" and his response was yeah... an hour or two. Needles to say there was no call back. I tried calling the old and new number and no answer. I will try and update this with hopefully some sort of redeeming conclusion but i really only expect things to get worse. read more

Wasn't originally about this branch in particular, but since you can't submit a complaint on USPS.com (you can go through the steps to file a complaint but it won't allow you to submit when you get to the end of the form), I am going to complain here. I sent something overnight on Thursday, January 11th. The guarantee delivery date and time was Saturday, January 13th at 3pm. On Tuesday January 16th at 4:30 I called the post office to inquire about the delivery. Ms Nelson and Ms Williams were both very helpful and found the package in a few minutes and it was delivered to my house at 5. Boo on the discourteous service received through automated package tracking and notifying me that it would be late. Hooray for the ladies stepping up and fixing the problem! read more

They are very accommodating, even when some customers are very difficult. I think they should be commended, especially in their push and press through the recent Chicago snow storm. The mail carrier for our physical address made a special effort to deliver a package, even after a tough day of double loads when another worker was not able to make it in. 2 stars is an excellent review for this place, b/c it is awful, but the employees really do try to work with the terrible resources they have. If you are in a horrible jam and must use a post office, and Fedex/UPS are not an option, this is close to being halfway acceptable. Not good, but they have found packages for "in the back" for me without complaining, and recently, I swear this happened, sent a carrier back to our house b/c we insisted we were home (we had to beg, but he came back, he really did!!). So, yes, it is the USPS but it's perhaps an upper tier of Hell instead of Wicker park, which must be the lowest tier of Hell. You will come out of here alive and likley won't need to be medicated. read more

This post office is clearly some kind of practical joke. They've lost numerous packages of mine, and if the weather is even slightly, SLIGHTLY, unpleasant their carriers don't seem to go out. It's some kind of miracle when and if my mail actually shows up. The other reviewers are correct in how slowly the employees move once you've resigned yourself to actually go in there to resolve a problem. I think my mail would come much quicker if the sender got a running start and tried to throw it to my house. Oh, and forget trying to call, they seem to have disconnected their phones...
