Do you know why I got myself a PO box? Mail theft at my apartment is rampant. If you order a package, expect it to get stolen. One time I ordered something for same-day delivery, and even though I got there, an hour and a half after it was delivered, that package was already gone. Yikes. Hence, I thought I'll them shipped to a government building where it should be pretty safe. Now, I do want to mention, Amazon *can* deliver to a Locker or a Whole Foods, but not everything. Further, anything sent to me my non-Amazon can't go in a locker or Whole Foods. Now, while items delivered to the PO box would be held in relative safety, me getting it is another story. At the start, I found that packages weren't getting to me, with the clerk telling me that if there's no yellow slip in the PO box, then it hasn't been processed yet. Turns out, no. When the PO box was rented, cardboard was not removed from the back of it, which apparently signified that that said PO box was unoccupied. After lots of frustration, we finally figured out that, "oh, wait a minute, that cardboard shouldn't be there!" Okay, well now we removed it. I think it should be on the up and up from here, right? Not really. Not too long ago, I had a package that was shown as delivered and I came two days and some hours later to pick it up. I look in my PO box, and there's nothing. No package, no yellow slip, nada. I go to the clerk who tells me that after it arrives in the building, it takes two to three days to get processed. Really? After mail is delivered to the post office, it has to take an additional couple of days to get sub-delivered to the very same post office? Sure, it's a big building, but that doesn't make sense. Two more things about this location that have me pulling my fair out: 1. While to be fair, during my visits it wasn't super busy, there's usually only one or two people working behind the counter. 2. This post office allegedly has their street addressing service. That means that your PO box comes with a real street address you can use in additional to the standard "PO Box 1234 Chicago, Illinois." However, all but one of the staff seemed to have no idea what I'm talking about and what that address would be, even though I later saw it on a poster in the PO box area. Finally, if there is one area where I want to give them some points, it's that their hours are truly fantastic. They are open seven days a week, and on working days until midnight. This is perfect for me to be able to pick up my PO box items after work, even if I have to work a little bit late or if I need to mail something on a Sunday. Oh yes, and I almost forgot. The US Postal Service is kind of like Google... you can't really avoid it, unless you're going to send Christmas cards by FedEx. Just so, whether it's personally or where my job touches postal matters, it seems severe delays are as rampant as theft at my building. read more

This post office has come in handy while working DT. Downgraded to 4 stars because there is a lot of construction going on. Post office itself is huge. Lots of P.O. Boxes. When I came in there were 4 different windows open with little to no wait. They offer passport support here. It was easy least once I finally figure out how to get into the building and find the main office in the second floor. read more

With it being the weekend, a Saturday afternoon I had no interest in waiting a few days to ship my Poshmark item. As a Poshmark Ambassador, I strive to ship my items within two days at the least which keeps my shipping status at 1.3 average days. As much as I dread driving my vehicle anywhere near downtown Chicago, this US Post Office due to its retail hours, was my only resort at shipping my Poshmark package the day of its purchase. I am grateful it was open because I did not want to place my package inside of a blue collection box which would have gotten picked up who knows when by a postal clerk. As for the visit, I was fortunate enough to find a parking spot outside of the entrance, which made me feel as though I was walking on thin ice at being ticketed. So, I had extra pep to my step while inside to avoid that from happening. I had a long walk down the hallway of this location that appeared emptier than my dating life, tehehe. Signage pertaining to US Post Office information guided me, but moreover, to get to the service area, I had to take escalator stairs where it sat ahead. During my visit, there were very few customers being serviced, but shortly after waiting in-line, a clerk called me over. As someone who visits post offices regularly whether it be for Poshmark or eBay shipments, the clerk presented a welcoming vibe during our brief encounter. And I was well on my way after the clerk accepted my package. I am terrible at doing the surveys pertaining to my visits at post offices, but I always share some sort of a review. I was here for an hour on Tuesday to get an item certified mail and another item registered mail for international mailing. I was actually being serviced for ONE COMPLETE HOUR. I don't think the service required this amount of attention. I believe the representative (and I won't mention a name because she was pleasant and helpful.) However, I wholly believe it was her last hour before clocking out --so she spent extra time processing my needs, all the while wasting my time. So I stood there listening and watching several of the other reps be as loud and rude to customers that came to their counters. It was painful to be in the middle of. I perform in a service field daily. There is no way I could speak to those I service in the disrespectful l, condescending manner these USPS reps did, customer after customer. It was disgusting. I do business here because it's convenient. But I try to avoid it as much as I possibly can. read more

Great customer service! We went in with my family and kiddos to get passports this past weekend. We had exceptional service from Phillip and the Saturday staff. Phillip was very patient, kind, and answered all of my questions throughly. He was very friendly and helpful taking pictures with my small kids. Absolutely the worst experience ever! Employees are miserable and put it onto the customers. Had a lady tell me I needed to purchase a package to send the item off in, then when I get to the register she has the audacity to tell me that "actually your priority mail so next time you actually can just get a free one" AND SHE CONTINUED TO MAKE ME PAY FOR THE NEW PACKAGE (even though she literally told me I had to buy one) this is not my first horrible experience here this is probably the worst Postal office in the USA. But the three hard working employees were very helpful and patient with each customer. The person that helped me with my 6 packages was very friendly as we shared laughs as we recited our To-Do list items that seemed to go on and on. I came here today as it was the closest Post Office as I was running errands. I'm glad i came here. This is a very large Post Office that is open late and on Sundays. The parking is in the lower level of the garage and it's free. I was helped by a delightful and helpful clerk who is listed as "clerk 5". She did a great job. I have to agree - This place is like a cross between Brazil and a pile of rotting peaches. Sadly the staff could also be said to approximate that description as well. I've been trying to call them for an hour now, and no one is picking up the phone. I've tried calling USPS HQ who told me that the number I was dialing was, by some crazy circumstance, the same one they had listed. The fellow I spoke to was stumped as to why they wouldn't pick up. But he had a slight Southern Drawl to his voice, so I'm guessing he's from Littleville, LA where folks give a damn about their jobs. Sigh. How I wish the same could be said here in Chicago. But what incentive do Postal employees have to actually do their jobs? None, really. The government will bail them out time and time again so instead of evolving around the customer they'll become another institution lapping away at my retirement fund's teat. I wish I could give -5 stars. The staff here a rude, unhelpful and full of nasty attitudes. I had a package sent here as general delivery for the third time because I cannot have packages delivered to my apartment. I had previously spoken with a USPS staff member that told me there was no problem with that. Now, I'm here to pick up a package that says on the tracking info that it was delivered here to the post office 15 days ago. They sent me back and forth 3 times from customer service to the package pickup window on the other side of the building, each time saying they didn't have my package and I needed to go back. FINALLY after 20+ minutes, a different lady named Deborah at customer service was helpful and found my package for me. She was the only pleasant and helpful staff member I've encountered today. read more

This is actually my first review, and yes, for a Post Office. I ordered something off Ebay, but forgot to update the shipping address with Ebay and PayPal. Turns out it was too late to change anything before it would ship. As I was scrambling, I took a shot in the dark and called the Post Office location for the delivery zip code it was coming to. (60607, West Loop) While it did take a couple minutes for someone to pick up, I talked to Erica, and she was extremely helpful. Over the course of the day, she took the tracking number, spoke with the courier, and got everything corrected so it would come to the right place. Considering it was my fault I had the wrong address anyways, I felt very fortunate. She even took my number and called me to let me know I could expect my package at the updated address. Saved me a trip to the office altogether. When I first called, I didn't expect much assistance, to be honest. This was a very pleasant surprise, and worth a great review. TERRIBLE!! USPS seriously needs automation in addition to staff training. Came here to pick up a package (as Amazon said the package was still there). After 2 unhelpful staff members full of attitude, they told me they can't help me (did not even bother to look at my tracking number) then gave me another location to go to with a number to call first. Called the 2nd location (211 Clark) said they NO LONGER have USPS packages and told me to go to the South Loop location (mind you, I am standing in front of the USPS South Loop location already). Just gave me a full run around. USPS - please train your staff, have them talk to each other to avoid customer confusion on where their package actually is, train them to track packages to actual help customers that come in and provide better customer service. I didn't end up finding my package and this was 2 hours of my life I can't get back. Terrible, avoid at all costs. read more

Lines are extremely long most of the time. Fortunately, there are a lot of employees here and a nice electronic system for pointing patrons to the next available representaive. The loop location is extremely conveniently for walkers. Drivers also benefit from the fact that there's a parking garage adjacent to the building. read more

I am actually reviewing the postwoman that gets our mail from this place. She is, without a doubt, the most horrible postwoman. We have not gotten our mail since Tuesday. It is now Friday. Almost three days without mail? At a business that ALWAYS gets the mail on time from other postpeople? This is beyond ridiculous! She is an older woman who is going blind (I kid you not) and slooooowwwww. Her route that she got is apparently a short one with just businesses. When the subs do it, we get our mail by 2pm, the absolute latest. (The subs are also very nice, pleasant and they are the ones that tell me what's going on.) When she delivers the mail, well... We haven't gotten it in THREE days. She sucks. The only reason I am giving this post office two stars is because when I just called to complain, the people here were courteous and called me back within 15 minutes to tell me that we would be getting our mail today. They also explained that our slow ass postwoman called in sick for this week. Gee, thanks, where's our mail? read more

Wow. Just wow. This place is actually kind of scary. I took the bus as close as I could get to it and then I had to walk the rest of the way. It's in the giant postal building that takes up the entire block, but you have to walk into an alley way type area (for parking cars) and up stairs to get to it. You can easily pass it over, it's not labeled well. It is kind of scary. It's really really really incredibly (can't emphasize that enough) dirty. Grossly dirty. I didn't want to touch anything when I was there and I felt like I should have a tall male friend accompanying me. I didn't like it from the second I looked into the little alley way type thing. The lady I spoke with on my first visit was very friendly. She explained to me that my letter hadn't arrived yet because the person wasn't quite done with rounds yet. Fine and dandy, I went back the next day. Still creepy as all get out, but now instead of the nice lady, there's a grumpy older man who sounds like he barely speaks English. He grunts at me and glares at me like I'm incompetent for not signing the back of my pick up card first (sorry, not used to that-wasn't paying attention to it). He takes FOREVER to get me my letter, and doesn't say a thing when I thank him. No grunt even. I couldn't have been happier to get away from that place, and as soon as I did, I whipped out my hand sanitizer and put a ton on my hands. Eww. Thankfully, unless you really really need a package from them (they do try to re-deliver if you ask) that has to be signed, there's no reason to go there-so I don't need to tell you to stay away. If you know you have to sign for something personally before you order it or whatever, I just suggest going for UPS or FedEx if you can. Trust me, it's not worth saving $ over. I'd rather pay more than have to go down there ever again. read more

The staff here are lazy, unhelpful, and rude. Often times I'm here I find the staff idling around, chatting among themselves even when there are people waiting right next to them for assistance. If you dare interrupt their idle talk, you get treated rudely and receive the most unhelpful, if not deliberately misleading, response to your question. They're extremely slow with service and there weren't even many people when I came. They falsely advertised the rates by at least $14 as we were told that the prices posted were wrong.... We wanted priority express international envelope mail and the posted price was $35 but we're told by the worker the cheapest was actually $49... The employees at this post office are extremely rude and unprofessional! I've been there on several occasions and have continually had bad experiences. I run my own business and shipping products is a large part of that. To avoid the post office lines and save on cost I began printing my own labels at home. Today I went to the post office with my prepaid packages and asked the employee where I should place them, she made an "uh uh" noise and put her hand up at me as if to say stop! After waiting patiently for her to finish whatever it was she was doing I asked again. The woman told me in a very snotty way where to place my PREPAID packages and told me I needed to respect the line! Isn't that the point of prepaid to avoid the lines?! She didn't needy to scan my packages or even handle them so I refuse to stand in a line of 15 customers when she can just answer a simple question. Sorry I'm ranting but I'm fuming! This is the worst of the worse post offices I've ever been to. If there are human beings that feel no remorse in making a pregnant lady cry, then you have some issues. I understand being a govt entity that you are not going to get the best customer service.. But I don't think customer service is even on the vocabulary of the people working here. I went to this post office (7 months pregnant) bc there was a package that had been sent to me that was now lost. Hoping someone could provide me with some answers as to where in the world my package was, no one was will to help or even look me in the eye. They kept shooing me off and were actually getting disgusted by me even asking where I can go for someone to assist. In the end after spending hours there on my feet and ladies being completely rude to my face, I left in tears (pregnant). Never again! pretty much any of the problems I have with mail delivery is from this post office. Their package delivery is done by some of the laziest sacks of crap. I have called to complain but it does no good. The delivery people will mark your packages delivered, and while looking in the mail room it's never there. It shows up hours later. I guess to make their numbers look better. Or, and this really gets me fuming. They stop delivery because my business is closed. I have called to complain. My business can't close, It's open 24/7 as mandated by the FEDS. So, it looks like to me when they use this excuse, it's because the lazy sack of crap delivery person was too lazy to even walk through the front door. I plead for vendors to ship ups or fedex.
