I'm not a fan of giving out one-star reviews but when it's warranted, on every single occasion, then you know what, I'm doing it! This post office is located on the first floor of the Merchandise Mart, near the entrance closest to the CTA. No matter the time of day, the length of the line, or how many people are working, this place is always a shit show. As many of the reviews mention, it's so bad it's almost comical. You can't make this up. It's honestly the worst post office I've ever visited in my entire life. Heck, the one in my neighborhood now isn't rated the greatest but the service is one hundred times better. Save your sanity and go elsewhere. read more

Located on the lower level floor inside the Merchandise Mart Building. FYI. The Post Office doesn't open up until 10 A.M It's a good thing my job is literally around the corner from the Merchandise Mart. Took me like 3 minutes to walk over and to my disappointment my package was not at this location. I was specifically told over the phone that my package was being held at this location. Neither here or there I was upset because I was told that my package was here. The lady behind the counter with the no customer service face was blunt to the point. No your package is not here. We don't hold package at this location. Ok fine lady but do you have an idea Where? and what location I can retrieve my package? There was another lady behind the counter who was so kind to assist me and tell me that my package was over on Dearborn at the other location. Have a PO Box at this address. Went by today. Sign says "Closed Permanently". No information about my PO Box, the mail within it, what is going to happen when someone sends me mail, they never sent any notice to me at all. Also, they owe me a 3 month refund of the box since its closed now. Could they at least send me a damn notice that they are closing the office and what happens to my paid box? read more

This is the second review I have given. The woman that was working behind the counter should be fired. Period. There is no excuse as to why should be working there. Literally, the worst service I have received anywhere, at any time. If the Post Office has any interest in making this location work, please reach out to me. Why yes, I AM giving a 4-star review to a USPS. Fight me! Let me start by saying I had to mail a giant package recently, and I thought I was going to have to lug my happy ass a few blocks away from the Merch Mart. A lovely human I work with mentioned that we have a post office IN THE SAME BUILDING AS MY OFFICE, and I was filled with glee. I walked in around 2pm on a Thursday, and there was one other person in line. Let me preface what comes next with this: I often feel very dumb while mailing things besides cards and letters at the post office. I never know if I have the correct tape on the box, or if I just basically need to do something I didn't consider before arriving at the post office. I think I've had nightmares about not being able to mail something heavy that I carried to the post office. Anyway. When it was my turn to speak to an employee, the woman behind the counter, Leslie, told me that I indeed had used the wrong tape and that I needed an address label. But instead of treating me like I was dumb, like at most post offices (that's a funny start to a sentence but it's TRUE!!!), Miss lovely Leslie handed me some correct tape and an address label at no extra cost (does it usually cost more? who knows!) and just told me to go to the table on the side and fix my box. She told me to step to the side "in case anyone else gets in line, so [she] can help them." Good forward thinking, Leslie. Anyway, I fixed my box and mailed it and it still cost $20, which is a lot of money, but I mailed a big package so whatever. My point is that Leslie is an angel, this location is a godsend, and I'm glad I know it exists. And now you know it exists, too! read more

I work in this building and out of the 7 times I have tried to mail something DURING open hours, the lady responds with "my computer is down. I'm closed" or "my computer is down, it'll be up in 30 min". Or just "were closedEvery. Single. Time. Without fail. Just tried to ship something at 3:20 on a Wednesday two hours before they close and it of course happened again. She told me she was done for the day. I waited to see what she told another customer who came in after and she told her the computer would be up and running at 4pm. Arrives at 1pm on a Wednesday and they were closed! There were several other people waiting with me. After about 30 minutes and calling another branch they put me on hold and never responded. A us post office worker delivering mail was surprised they were closed but ignored us when asked if she'd call someone. Horrible service. The woman working at 230pm today (4/22) could not have been more unhelpful. Sat behind the counter for about a full minute before looking to from her phone to assist me. This morning around 10:15 am I was mailing off jewelry for a client and I walked up to the counter in a pretty good mood... smiled at clerk one who smiles back and stated that the other clerk with glasses and dreads maybe braids will assist me. She came around the counter after helping a gentleman and/or placing stock on the counters and motion me to up. I said hello and stated I would like this package to go priority with insurance and it's fragile. She then demanded to ask "what is it" in a very rude way and it caught me off guard because i didn't know what happen why attitude‍ I told her it was jewelry she than proceeded to punch in some information and give me a total of $4.10 at this point she didn't say another word but handed me the receipt and throw the box into a bin Now i will admit i walked away to collect my thoughts but i did go back to ask her one where is the fragile sticker two why toss the package after i said it was fragile? Her response " don't do stickers but you can write all over your package" What in the whole h&ll just soulless no remorse. Even looking at my receipt more clearly she didn't even do priority next day but 2nd day. I've been coming to this location a few times in the last couple of weeks and each time the clerks are rude. Why in the middle of the day on a Monday would there only be one customer service register open? The USPS is becoming a worse experience than the DMV. What's worse is, in addition to the ridiculous wait, the postal staff are unnecessarily rude and entitled acting. I stood in line for 30 minutes and listened to most customers be treated very rudely and belittled for one thing or the other. It's no wonder why the USPS is fledgling. I have never had a good experience at this location. I go to it all the time because I work in the building. I have already written a formal complaint to USPS about my experience here. So I will keep this short and concise. The employees are rude and slow on purpose. I seriously think they get off by walking in slow motion to grab anything for you, and watching as the line grows longer. I am with everyone - this location sucks. It never is properly stocked and most of the employee's move like they are on some sort of chemically induced stupor. First off - I would not blame all the employees. Today there was the usual 2 clerks. One clerk's computer was down and then I had to wait for the head clerk. Instead of making herself useful and trying to reduce the head clerk's workload the downed computer clerk meandered around aimlessly. Maybe I'm nuts, but why didn't she try to log into the other computer no one was using??? 2 clerks & 3 checkout stations... unless that computer is dead. For instance of how awesome the head clerk is and no one else, I needed a certified delivery & some questions about shipping to a an FPO. Yes, priority box medium. Yet they was none available - so the head clerk jumped up and ran into the back to grab some more boxes. God only knows what the other clerk was doing, but the head clerk knew better than to even bother to ask her to do that simple task. So who is this head clerk??? Barbara! She always (wo)mans the far left checkout. After years of going here, yes Barbara ain't gonna give you the fuzzy feeling if she sees there is a line or even if there isn't one because she is basically the only person running the place. She's busy. If you want to vent your anger you should complain about the post master at this station to the head post master of Chicago because he/she obviously is not doing their job. For basic forms I use on a monthly basis that they are always out of (hmmmmm wouldn't ordering be the post masters job????) Barbara has told me to just order them to be delivered to my business. Anyhoo - Barbara might not be the cuddly snuggle you desire for when shipping or mailing, but she does get it there and more often that not she saves you money by telling you your alternative options which doesn't happen too often with other clerks. I guess I value competence over a smiling face that is essentially a blank slate with no answers. Hello, hello... anyone home???? On a side note::: Many of the customers are really a**h0le$ at this location. Maybe it is just me, but if you don't know how to properly package a box or fill out a form and get sent to redo your box or form... it's back of the line not you're the priority & next up. It's not the fault of everyone in line that you needed help and why should we wait... yeah... I dropped off a prepaid package and asked for a receipt. I was told by the postal work that specific location does not offer receipts. I have been coming there for 7 years, dropped off numerous prepaid packages, and was always given a receipt when I requested one. I told her as recent as 1-2 months prior the postal worker that was sitting directly to her left printed me out a receipt when I requested one. The worker who was helping me said she had been there a year and had never printed a receipt for a customer at their request. The other employees there ignored my comment, including the worker who had helped me the month prior and printed the receipt for me previously. I asked if their policy must have changed. She had no response to my question. I feel the employees make up new procedures based on however they are feeling that day/their mood. It is unacceptable. read more

This post office is the worst - ever. Incompetent and rude employees who move at a snail's pace. There were six customers in line and two employees behind the counter. We all waited in line for 15 minutes while BOTH employees helped a guy with his p.o. box problem. Really?! Takes two dummies to assist a guy, while ignoring all other customers? I finally get up to the counter, ask to see what stamp designs are on offer (it took me five seconds to make a selection) when the clerk asks the next customer to step up to the counter, proceeds to ignore me and assist him, making me wait longer ... why? Obnoxious, stupid, and irrational. Having showed up in a panic to post a package with a label and prepackaged box ready to go all I needed was some wide tape to ensure my box didn't open during transit. I saw some tape behind the desk full and ready to go, and having asked politely several times I was met with arrogance like never before. The women behind the desk refused to just do something so simple, 10 minutes before closing. I had to hastily run elsewhere to get tape and rush back down only to see she had removed the packages for delivery today and forced me to put my package in the trolley for tomorrow. While service has been questionable in the past, allowances needed to be made between the pandemic and Louis Dejoy, but the last time I was in there I needed to send a package and the woman behind the counter charged me an extra $5.00 for a Liberty stamp. When I questioned her what the extra charge was for I got an angry, snippy response of, "You want me to put the postage on the box, don't you?" WTF? That's your job. I had my friend take a photo of the postage and there was no Liberty stamp on it, just the print out postage. So, she either pocketed the money or the stamp herself. She appears to be the only one working there, so there is no one to complain to. And the USPS doesn't seem to be providing any oversight, because I did complain to my US representative and got no response. Perhaps I will try the Postmaster General. If you don't mind being charged for items that you don't receive, by all means, go to this post office location, but I will not be crossing that threshold for some time. P.S. There is a FedEx on the second floor with better customer service and depending on what you are mailing, prices seem comparable. read more

This entire place is a disaster! I stopped in last night at 5:10 to mail two envelopes. The sign on the door clearly indicates the hours as open until 5:30 PM, but the glass door was locked. There were two people in line and a slow as tar running up a steep grade employee, shuffling her way to the door to unlock the door and let a patron out. I put my foot in front of the door when she tried to close it and told me that they were closed. I said, no you're not, because the door clearly indicates that you are open until 5:30, she again tried to tell me they were closed, I once again said "No you are not!" and pulled on the door and made my way in. This is the 3rd time this has happened, this particular store has the laziest, nastiest, worthless people working there. So, it was October 15th yesterday, which is a fairly big tax deadline. I left work (directly across from the Merchandise Mart) at 4:30 to make sure I was there in plenty of time to stand in line forever before they closed at 5:30. When I got there, the lights were on but the doors were locked and there were three people standing right outside. One of them said, "the woman said she would be back in just a few minutes and that was half an hour ago." Because, of course she did! So, I walked to the one at the Randolph Center instead. Agents at this Post Office don't seem to care about their job. They lost a package of mine and the tracking number isn't in the USPS system. When I went to ask if they could tell me what had happened, they could not at all. The response I got was that "it wasn't entered into the system" which is equivalent to "we didn't do our jobs". They were also massively rude when I asked if there was a way I could use the tracking # to start a case. If they don't care about their work, that's fine. They should lose their jobs. read more

Thank goodness for online shopping & email and being able to do shopping through other carriers, now if only my bosses would do the same, I'd never be in this line again. This is a horrible post office. Under staffed and the staff that is there has an attitude problem. And this is on top of extreme unreliability of the USPS Chicago region generally. I sent at overnight letter to Syracuse, NY. Took me almost half an hour in line at 10:30 am to post it. Per tracking information it did not even leave the Chicago sorting facility until 24 hours after it was to be delivered. I went back to the post office for a refund of my $20 postage under the guarantee - 3 times. Each time I waited in line at least 15 minutes. And each time, by the time I got to the front of the line there was only a single clerk working (the other was on break/lunch) so they refused to "research" the situation, even though I attached the tracking information for them. At their suggestion I left the receipt and tracking information with them the last time I went (I was not going back) so they could review and process the credit to my card. Of course they did not. I sent a letter to the Postmaster General and received a form letter back from the "customer service" department of the Chicago post office that was irrelevant to the situation. Crappy service all the way around. Shame on me for expecting the USPS to deliver! read more
