There was nobody to help me for like 10 minutes. All I needed were two stamps to send my postcards. I was the only one there for a few minutes and then 2 other people walked in behind me. Once the postal worker got to her station and I got my stamps, she got into a confrontation with the man behind me. He ended up just walking out cursing. During those 10 minutes, you could here shuffling going on in another part of the post office. I receive an email notification every day with photos of what pieces will be delivered. What a crock. For example, Saturday there were six pieces to be delivered, Monday four. Saturday there were two outgoing packages to be picked up. The mail carrier has not made rounds to my house nor to the neighboring 16 houses since last Friday. During the height of the DOVID-19 virus, I needed to renew my passport. I tried to contact the post in the Lakeview area without any assistance since no one answers the phone. I decided to call this location for assistance. Within four rings, an attendant answered the call and was very helpful with my questions. Upon entering the building, there was plenty of notices regarding safety for the customers and for the employees. I was truly amazed there weren't any lines. I was able to grab a flat envelop and walk right up to the attendant. She was very professional and friendly with my request. Since I had paid for the service on line and printed the label at home, the attendant, just attached the label to the envelope. Gave me the acknowledgement the envelope was received. Overall great experience, granted it was about 3pm in the middle of the week. There seemed to be plenty of material a customer may need. read more

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE SELF-SERVICE KIOSK... As the holiday season is upon us, there are many people to send gifts and cards to. That being said-recently I went here and while there is 5-6 team member booths to service people there is usually only one or two people working. There are ALWAYS LINES.... Use the self-service kiosk....it makes it easy and definitely faster than waiting in--line physically. FYI-if the drop box that services the packages that you want to mail is jammed or full (speaking from experience)-put the postage printed on your boxes and walk to the front of the line and leave it where directed by the postal worker. If I could give zero stars I would. The workers here, or at least the ones I have interacted with, are grossly incompetent and have horrible customer service. I had to go back and wait in line 3 times in one visit because the worker told me incorrect information. After telling me incorrect information she wouldn't let me stand there and fix it (which it was incredibly simple to fix, crossing out one part of the address) so I wasted 25 minutes of my life trying to correct mistakes on their behalf. This is the season to be jolly. Right? Well I'm not sure what's the issue this holiday season with delivery shipments. I have been having issues with my packages being delivered on time to my job. So, I decide to pay the Post Office a little visit on Friday to find out what in the world was going on with my deliveries. I had to walk down to the main Post Office downtown on Dearborn Street. I arrived 15 minutes early because I already knew the line would be crazy. I was the 2nd person waiting in line to get inside the Post Office. It was a delight pleasure to have a nice lady open the doors and greet us with a warm smile. Let me tell you I have NEVER been to any Post Office here in Chicago where there are many cheerful postal workers. The employees always seemed to have an attitude. But I was quite thrown off that I received the opposite service. I didn't have to wait long in line before I was up next. The young lady Dominique who assisted me was helpful. It's funny how you can receive an email stating that your package was delivered to you but for some strange mysterious reason it's still upstairs in bins waiting to be sorted out. I had to take several deep breathes and adjusted my crown. Why in the world must you get the run around? I was a little more relieved that Dominique was attentive and understood my frustrations. She took down my information and reassured that she would follow up back with me later in the afternoon. Follow Up.. I received my package on Monday not Friday and it was delivered to the WRONG address. Luckily a good Samaritan was kind of enough to walk it over to my job and hand delivered it to me. The 4 Star Review is for the attentive and awesome service that I received from the clerk Dominique. She did make sure to give me back that follow up call to check to see if I received my package. Called to ask if my package was at this location the lady answering the phone said "why would we have your package?" and I stated that its being held there as they are refusing to deliver it. She was extremely rude and unprofessional told me that they would not be delivering it and then I stated that is why I was calling, so that I could come pick it up then she had the audacity to ask why I was being rude HA! I said I'm sorry I am being rude? You are the one giving me attitude when I just want to know where my package is. Then she hung up on me. Never gave her name when answering the phone she only answers the phone with the location. The Fort Dearborn Post Office is worthless. I ordered stamps online from this post office on December 14, 2010 and they have not yet arrived by December 28, 2010. In other instances I have ordered stamps online and delivery takes between 1-2 days. I responded to both US Post Office emails regarding my stamps and indicated that I have not received them, that was on December 20, 2010. My next move is to contact my credit card so I can get my money back. By the way, as a student of government and politics, and a government employee, I often find myself defending the US Post Office because they are one of the most effective, accurate and efficient bureaucracies in the United States, however, Fort Dearborn has successfully bucked the trend and perpetuates our collective negative opinion of the US Post Office. Ten years later and this place is actually worse. Looks so disorganized and run down, you wonder how they don't lose even more packages than they already do, which is a prodigious amount. The kiosk is often down, necessitating interaction with the surliest employees in the city. The Coronavirus pandemic is in full swing, and mind you even overworked cashiers at the grocery stores are friendlier and more positive than Susie behind the counter here. Had the misfortune of interacting with this woman when the kiosk was down. She started off by telling me I couldn't mail things the way I have been mailing literally dozens of them through the kiosk in the past month. You know, packages of homemade masks that have been going to my family and friends around the country, average receipt time of about 4 days. Although I use the exact same weight and packaging, she managed to charge me double what the kiosk would have for the same shipping class. Every interaction was fraught with I can't do this, or that's not how you do that, all evidence to the contrary. I have incurable cancer and am on chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and was about 5 seconds away from blacking out at all the interminable questions she kept asking about one package needing to go priority mail in a Priority Mail box, and three envelopes having to go first class. Simple. Boom. Done. Instead, she proceeded to lecture me on how I needed to be more positive. There is no cure for this shit. I've basically been a Pollyanna through treatment, but I don't expect somebody who's interacted with me for all of 45 seconds to know how I have been every day for 2 years. It's not her place, and I made sure to put her in it. You're here to help us mail things, not tell a cancer patient how to live her life. I live on Dearborn and the mail woman withheld my mail when I was on vacation. I was looking and wondering where some mail was when I came back. This caused many problems with orders and resulted in late letters from tax departments. The mail lady was defensive and acted as if she did me a favor. There were also people coming in with passport appointments who moved to front of line and even they were waiting way past appointed time. I live a block away & go to this post office several times a week. I've experienced the rudeness outlined in these posts but assumed they had a tough job & let it go for 8 years. But today was so bad it left me no choice. I was at the counter in the process of doing a couple transactions. The man behind me came up & stood a foot behind me even though there was no one in line behind him. He just wasn't paying attention so I asked him politely if he wouldn't mind moving back 6' since I was in the highest risk category. He was very sweet & said of course. But Clerk #56 literally became unhinged & lashed out at me saying I had no right to ask anyone to move & if I needed the 6' distance it was me who had to move. I asked her where could I go when I'm up at the counter & she told me I could move 6' to the left where another clerk serving 3 people. Not only would I be in their space but I wouldn't be able to insert my credit card from there. She continued to rant for 5 more minutes. I couldn't figure out my she was attacking me. If she needed to attack anyone wouldn't it be the person breaking the rules? After reading the other posts, I realized she was the same race as the man who was behind me. In fact, my story is very similar the other person who said the clerks were racially profiling their rudeness. This has to be the reason as there's no other explanation for her insane behavior. I wanted to ship out a bottle of wine and they told me I needed to tape my own box so I bought the tape and then they watched me tape my box and use bubble wrap and then that's when they said we weren't able to ship out wine. ‍ so now I'm paying for a box, the bubble wrap and tape and now I don't need it. You don't need to be crazy in order to work here, but it sure does help!" --Overheard from an employee here, while I'm waiting in line for 20 minutes for someone to appear at the counter and help me locate a package. I have a PO Box here, so have to come here every now and then to pick up mail and packages. I'll start with the negative. If you come here at a bad time, there will be plenty of the loud, brusque barking and the characteristic slow-paced, deliberate demeanor that USPS employees seem to have. And it's arguably more intense here than at a typical post office. This is especially apparent when it's understaffed up front at the counter and gets overwhelmed by customers waiting in line. If this is the case when you're here--good luck to you, and I hope you have thick skin to withstand the yelling. Also on the negative side, I've had difficulty retrieving my held mail here. I was told to coordinate this with my local carrier, which was a major pain. Who wants to wait around at home for their carrier to arrive? However, on the positive side, I've decided to give this place three stars, since I've noticed that there are in fact are kind and competent people who work here. And once employees here recognize you and realize that you've been respectful and patient in the past, they will tend to be nice to you. So if you must do business here and are somehow able to get past the initial drill-sergeant demeanor and barking that you may encounter, service may get better here for you.
