I've never had a positive experience at any USPS office--until now. The worst by far has been the…read moremain office in Pilsen on Ashland, where the service has consistently been slow and unhelpful. That said, Shannon is the absolute exception and the true cornerstone of this location. She seems to be the only employee actually keeping this office running. We went to the Chinatown location for my daughter's passport appointment, and thanks entirely to Shannon, the experience was efficient, professional, and genuinely pleasant. She handled everything quickly and kindly, and we were in and out without any issues. USPS needs more employees like her. Please keep this location open and allow Shannon to continue providing the excellent service she clearly takes pride in.

He went out…read moreof his way to call me directly and made sure I was aware my mail was not being delivered due to the fact I had made an error on my address change. I was completely shocked that he would take the time to call me and reassure me that he was taking ALL my mail back to the post office so I could pick it up the next day. Sure enough I called him to just tell him I was at the post office to pick up my mail and he was more than happy to bring it down to my car, since it was a good amount of mail. What a gentleman, he was so nice and informative on what I should do to get my mail. I just want him to be acknowledged because I must be honest I had no faith in the postal service workers I had some bad experiences, but Mr. Reed changed that with his kindness. The clerk was assisting the first person and closed out. The lady ahead of me didn't speak English and the clerk didn't speak Spanish so the transaction was tough to hear. The clerk wasn't very understanding towards the lady. Made me feel uncomfortable because I felt bad for the customer. The lady figured it out though. I was next and the lady was nice to me though, efficient and I was out of there. I just wished she was kinder to the lady before me.

Some of the employees are more cordial than others. I had both good and poor experiences and you can tell they are all under a ton of stress. In my experience and neighbors, too, mail delivery has been inconsistent, and interactions with carriers have often been curt and unprofessional. Reliable mail service is essential, and residents should be able to depend on it. If you have the time, I strongly recommend going to the main post office at 433 W. Harrison St. instead.
