The people who work here art incompetent and rude. You will wait a long time for service, you will get berated for asking questions. You will not get answers to your question. The mail carriers who work out of this location are horrible. I never get my packages and rarely get any mail. If I could give it zero stars I would. I would advise to do anything to avoid using this post office. If you're at Trader Joe's shopping and think you'll "pop" in, don't. I visited Saturday, April 5, 2025 at around 12: 15 pm and the woman behind the counter began yelling at me as soon as I came in. She was rude to everyone. Extremely dismissive and not helpful whatsoever. The experience involved her yelling out "yo mama" (my mother is deceased) My past experiences have been positive but this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. If they can't staff this location with professional staff, sadly they should shut it down. read more

Customer service sucks but I guess what else do you except from a USPS? The people here hate their jobs and it's obvious. If I want to stand in line for a receipt, rather than drop my package off into a random box, then do your job and print the receipt. I believe most people (not all) are incompetent, so it makes sense why people don't trust dropping their package off into a random box. read more

Extremely rude service from two older staff members. They consistently yell at customers and show a complete lack of patience. Every time I've mailed a package here, I've left feeling humiliated. If they weren't government employees, they likely wouldn't still have their jobs. If you can, I highly recommend using a different location for your mailing. read more

I started coming here after the one toxic worker at my local p.o. started refusing to accept packages. This post office is small, but never crazy busy. The longest I've had to wait is about thirty minutes, still half the time I would spend at the South Shore branch (wait time is usually an hour). I was here last week to mail a document which contained a pre-paid shipping envelope. I had gone to Fedex, and the employees said this would not be possible. I came to the post office on a Saturday, and the clerk Kenya was unbelievably nice. She guided me through the whole procedure, and stuck the stamps herself for the pre-paid envelope. I had to go to a corner multiple times to finish writing the addresses, and she always let me in front of the line when I was done with part of the preparation. I try to alleviate this location as much as I possibly can. The two ladies that usually work there are both extremely rude with pretty much everyone. I witnessed them make a young foreign customer cry and treated an elderly lady very poorly. They have no customer service skills and a very bad attitude. The simple task of sending a letter becomes a catastrophe with the clerk behind the counter. She is rude, mean, and incompetent. This is not your regular Post Office and what I mean is this, if you live in the 60615 area this is not the location that you go too to pick up your packages. You have to go to 4601 S. Cottage Grove. You can send packages, letters and also get stamps, moving cards, boxes etc. I think if you don't want to get caught up in the long lines go early because around lunchtime the line can be out of the door especially with social distancing. When the self serve machine is working I like using it especially if there is a very long line. You can ship packages, get stamps I know that for sure. I am not familiar with any other services it may have. You must wear your mask and social distant when possible. They do have spacers on the floor. They also have P.O. Boxes and the staff is great. I would give this post office a half star if I could. The service is always awful, unless it is during a period when it seems like the station is being reviewed--then the employees make a half-hearted effort to be polite. Starla, one of the two regular postal employees, ignored me this morning as I stood at the top of the line, until I finally asked politely if she could help me (I was the only one in line). Without looking up from her screen, she told me she would be ready in a few minutes. No smile, no greeting. It was mid-morning, so it wasn't as though she were opening her station. When she finally nodded at me, I requested my stamps, thanked her and left. Clearly the only thing she dislikes more than her job are her customers. My husband and I typically drive downtown to the main post office so we don't have to deal with Starla and her colleague, but the road to it has been closed for street repairs, so we are stuck with the local one. Too bad the USPS can't fire these women. read more

I attempted to mail back an item that was incorrect in its size and while attempting to do so unfortunately encountered one of the worst USPS employees I have met in my entire life! very unhelpful, rude, but what really made this interaction special was the next day I received an email from the company I was returning the item to, ( I used priority mail express), that stated that it looked like the package had been opened, item taken, then resealed with packing tape and shipped, real impressive USPS! This is the second time in one year here, and definitely the last time using this thrift store branch of USPS! the employees here are bums and should find a job better suited to their attributes, (rude, larceny, unhelpful), but maybe this place is just right for them because they are the same people that have been here for years! Once again a tale of "service" from the infamous Hyde Park USPS office. I approached the said office about 3:30 p.m today. to mail a letter, knowing that they closed at 6. However I saw a couple of people hanging about outside (oh, oh!) and as I approached I saw that the office was dark. There was a hand lettered sign on the door: LUNCH: BACK LATER. Came back 20 minutes later and same situaiton (only different hoping-against- hope customers waiting outside). We rolled our eyes at each other and I gave up. So, there are usually three people staffing (more or less) this office. Couldn't they maybe take staggered lunches and keep the place open? Also I'm the tiniest bit suspicious of a lunch break at 3:30, given the office opens at 8:30 a.m. A well-earned afternoon nap, perhaps? You're probably reading these reviews thinking, "The service can't be THAT bad, can it??" Yes, it can and it is. I'm not sure what the people working here *think* their job is, but they certainly don't think it's customer service. Don't expect to get a helpful response to a simple question such as, "What are the rates for the different shipping options for this package?" Expect a scowl or an eye roll. You'll be lucky if the clerk doesn't just walk away (twice, today!), without giving a reason for why they just abandoned you, and certainly not hurrying back. I won't speak for all the clerks, but Annette is condescending, slow (to the point that it surely must be an act just to piss off customers), and, frankly, a bit of a bully. It blows my mind that this post office is as bad as it is when there have been so many consistently terrible reviews over the years. And as others have said, it's debatable which is worse: the epic wait times to get to the counter, or the service at the counter. Actually, no: despite consistently awful wait times, it's still the service that's worse. The post office is just in terrible shape, too. They're always out of something or some other thing isn't working. Right now, there are problems with money orders. Around the holidays, they just didn't have any customs forms, so no international shipping. I wish I could give this USPS zero stars. Avoid at all costs. I am giving this post office a 5 star review because I'm very grateful for the help I received by the postal worker today. I feel bad that I didn't get her name. She was so kind and helpful and went over and beyond for myself and everyone else. You can tell she is so passionate about helping others. I was so hesitate about going to this Location because of the horrible reviews. It seems like it's one specific person who seems to be the bad apple there from the comments I'm reading. Kenya from USPS is an absolute gem. I had made an absolute blunder with my international shipping and she calmly and throughly handled the situation with poise and grace. I wish I could give zero stars. Starla and other employees here lack customer service skills and are unnecessarily disrespectful/rude towards customers. I opened my PO Box a little over a month ago, at the same time I filed an address change for all mail. I have not received any mail, not even spam. I asked them if they had any mail sitting around for me that would not otherwise be in my PO Box. They told me if it's not in my PO Box then I have no mail. I've visited this post office at least 3 times and each time I've had a horrible customer service experience despite presenting myself in a respectful manner upon contact. I too had a dreadful experience there. I called and got the name of the manager, Talena Franks. I sent her an email about an hour or so ago so I am not expecting a response yet, I will post if I do. Horrible service ! There was water on the counter (in front of the attendant, Annette). I put my tax documents on the counter and realized they got soaked! I say "Oh no! There was a puddle of water of water here!" She looks at me and says "Ugh, well ain't nothing I can do about that". And I say well give me a second I need to check if my tax documents are okay to which she sighs loudly and then looks at her colleague and rolls her eyes! I couldn't believe it. I kept my calm and left, my documents were okay for the most part apart from the first page being wet on the bottom of it. Didn't even give me a napkin to wipe it of. I wish I could give this facility negative stars. It used to be such a nice location when the older generation were working there. It was slow but the experience was pleasant. About 1 year and half a ago, they switched completely to a batch of new workers. That's when things really started to go down hill. The workers really treat customers as if we are some kind of dirt or pest. Don't they know we are the ones that hand them their paychecks? Once i tried to ask questions about international shipping, was pretty much told "don't you know how to read?". This Monday, I sent out 10 packages for my Ebay business. All 10 tracking numbers were mis-scanned as "delivered at 00615" instead of "acceptance". This now has cost me over 4 hours on the phone with USPS/USPS cosnumer affairs. The problem is still not solved, and will potentially cost me over thousands of dollars. I've already transferred most of my business to Fedex and UPS. I won't say that I will never use USPS from now on, but I will definitely avoid it EVEN MORE now. Wonder why USPS is in financial troubles, Look no further than here! Annette and Kenya are some of the NASTIEST darn clerks they could have hired. Annette decided to close her register an entire hour and half before closing time and refuses to help or answer customer questions. And Kenya refused to help me. I had two packages rerouted to their facility. One came before the other and I successfully picked it up. Today, Kenya decided she wouldn't look for the package or even do me the favor of looking at the confirmation email I got saying it was in fact there! She was cutting me off while I talked and even told me I needed to move so she could help other customers. It took everything in me not to cuss both of those broads out! Incredibly bad service. Most of the clerks are basically sadists. I am terrified to even go there let alone ask questions. Just be ready to be treated like scum. Try to prepare everything and double check the info before you reach the counter cause there is always a line and I never saw both clerks actually doing their jobs, so if you don't you will need to go back and wait another 30 min. I sent a package to Chicago before they changed it. I had put the wrong zip code. The worker in Phoenix caught other one. I was thankful. It was to hold it there which they don't like either. I've been to dozens of post office locations and we'll many especially in Chicago lack in service but Hyde Park sure tops them all with ease. When it comes to slow, rude, and poor service. The only thing they are quick to point out is every rule of the post office you are breaking. And they sure do that all day long. I don't think it's a matter of understaffed because there are always plenty of ladies in there yet you rarely see any more than one actually serving a customer. What makes it the worst after the 30 to 40 minutes you wait to send a simple letter or package they are sure to send you off with a God bless or have a blessed day. Please leave God out of the hell that is the Hyde Park Post Office. Friendly staff who work very hard. This is a very busy location and they do not have the most employees. The employees are friendly and respectful. One cannot have unreasonable expectations when the government expects two people to do everything in one location. Service has deteriorated-if that's possible! Paid cash for Priority Express one day guaranteed delivery. Envelope containing an important contract was delivered two days later. When I tried to collect my $26.35 in cash was told the "system won't let me refund" I was told to go over to 46th and Cottage where there must've been 50 people in line-no social distancing and very few masks. Despite my having paid in cash, my refund will be by check since I applied for a refund online. Typical PO BS! read more
