    Today I went there to pick up a package that the USPS website said was being held there. When I told the sole woman working there, I was told "we don't hold mail here, we aren't actually a post office". WE AREN'T A POST OFFICE?! Funny, it looks like a post office and it sure as shit has the distinction of a post office!

    I see so many negative reviews, hopefully; they got rid of all of those customer agents. I went there today, like February 13, 2024, and received great service, even though only one lady was working out front running everything. I must say she was businesslike, efficient yet very friendly and outgoing making sure you understood everything, giving all the correct prices and even more. I thought she was doing a great job, even speaking to many of the customers who live in the Chinatown community--I live in South Loop and had to visit this one to get a passport. The USPS postal worker was Latishia and she told me she had been there since September of last year, so she definitely came after the bad reviews I see here. I almost didn't go, but I needed the passport to be in the works for my upcoming trip! Thank you, Latisha, keep up the good work!

    Guys, don't waste your time with this location. They're almost never open on time and they don't answer the phone. This is just absolutely horrible and unacceptable for US post office. I demand an inspector general come out and verify this for himself!

    This is a crazy story. Please sit tight and fasten your seat belt. Today, I want to ship one package using USPS Priority service to Middle East. So I went to this place. One of staffs there said there was no receipt that she could provide me. If I do want one, I need to pay $1.30. I refused because I have mailed so many international packages before and never heard about the fee like this. Then I asked her name, because she didn't wear any name tag. She said her name is "Post Officer" ! What a joke ! Btw, she called me IDIOT ! Seriously ! This is way out of the line to treate your customer. Of course, I was very upset and tried to watch out my own words. Then I went to 433 West Harrison, I think this is USPS regional headquarter. They took care of my package as normal and gave me the receipt. Meanwhile, I was also told by them to take a pic of this lady working at this location. (which, you, as a customer, should NOT do this in a Federal building, Post Office ! ) So I went back to this place, and tried to take a pic of this lady. Suddenly, she went crazy and yelled to me "Don't ever come back ! " Not a surprise, she called me an IDIOT second time. Funny part was she hided herself behind the wall and she even called the 911, saying that I was threantening her. Well, again, this was not the truth, otherwise, I wouldn't be let go by the police. Finally, I went back to 433 West Harrison, talked to poster master or some customer service person. Obviously, they had heard things like this before. But definitely not to the degree of craziness like this. They promised they would have area or regional manager get back to me with final result next Monday. Well, I did spend a lot of efforts to correct something like this happening in our daily lives. I tried not just to complain and do nothing. And I do think we all should rise up by taking actions instead of just being upset. (This is the longest and first complaint I wrote about USPS in Chicago. I hope someday USPS would get better. A lot of my friends asked me, "Do you think that USPS cares about those reviews ?". I replied, "They do care ONE DAY ! And we, as customers, should do more to help USPS be aware of their issues, than just writing a bad review") UPDATE: After weeks of efforts, post master helped setup a conversation between me and branch manager directly. But branch manager was obviously TOO busy to give me a update even she promised that she would gave me a update last Monday. But not a surprise, no call from branch manager. So I decided to go to district post office again today to find the update by myself. Today, post master setup a phone call between me and branch manager. She notified me that the issue has been resolved as when I asked for more updates. But when I asked HOW, she refused to inform me anything about their internal decisions, which was ok with me. But how can I be assured that the issue has been 100% resolved without knowing anything from high level ? I request for a official writtern apology from USPS. They said they would do so. I really don't know what else I can do to prevent this from happening again. Open for suggestions. Thanks.

    I had a PO Box at this Post Office... "had" being the operative term…read more Packages at my building were getting stolen at an alarming rate. Thus, I decided to get a PO Box so my merchandise could be stored in a secure, government building. Plus, I really loved that they have incredible hours, being open until midnight Monday through Friday, and late into the evening on Saturday and Sunday. Alas, this is the only good thing; everything else has been one issue after another. There was a major issue of packages seemingly not being delivered. I would see the tracking notification stating it was, but no 'package waiting' slip in the mailbox. I would bring this to the staff... some of whom checked in the back, while others stated that if there was no slip, it was still moving through the building. After this repeated enough times that some of the staff remembered me, and after I said "the only thing there is the cardboard on the back," he realized that the PO Box was effectively marked as vacant. Uh oh. It was removed, and I thought it would be uphill from there. Nope, there was a further issue. But first, a quick note about Street Addressing. PO Boxes at this Post Office come with Street Addressing, a service where your PO Box comes with a real street address. In trying to find out what this address was, most of the staffers had no clue what I was talking about. I eventually learned what it should actually be from a poster in the hall. Once I knew this from an official USPS source, and the "vacant" sign was removed, I ordered an item to that street address. The UPS tracking showed it as being delivered to the Post Office. However, the package was nowhere to be found. It ended up being a whole lot of finger-pointing, with the package seemingly being swallowed by The Void. After this, I decided it was time to close the PO Box. It was unable to fulfill the function I needed it to, and this is in large part due to negligence (i.e., not taking proper care) by this USPS. Final nail in the coffin: the number of letters that get lost, and the delays if they don't (about a month), are beyond unacceptable.

As she finishes with the customer, she looks at me and informs me that the line starts at the other side of the store. I am the only one in the store. I apologize, and approach the counter. She says "no, walk around"... so I do, and then she shouts "next!", and I then walk to the counter. I state I am here to purchase some stamps. Her response is "cant you read the sign, we dont sell stamps here". Next to her is a piece of paper written in sharpie that says "no stamps". I say oh no! Where can i get some stamps? Her response is "go somewhere else, theres a store on sheffield but theyre closed today". So I asked where I could buy some stamps, to which she replied "not my problem. Next!" As a customer had arrived with a return. As she told this customer she cant ship the package because they have the wrong box, I stood to the side googling where else I could buy stamps. I left after a couple minutes, and did not see the woman working the counter meaningfully contribute to society while I was there. I appreciate that usps allows people like this to remain employed somewhere,but as other reviews show, this is a consistent issue that has been present for years and will likely not be addressed. Do not come here, I'd expect this location to be closed in the near future due to lack of care by its staff and the company that "supports" its staff.

You get those slips instead and requesting redelivery when you're home is ignored. So during busy shipping times (holidays, etc.) expect to come here and wait in line forever. Some of the employees are more cordial than others. I had both good and poor experiences and you can tell they are all under a ton of stress. One thing I can say is getting upset with them won't help you at all. In this case you have to adopt some kind of zen mind practice because otherwise you'll wind up having a stroke and still nothing will change here.

    Do you know why I got myself a PO box? Mail theft at my apartment is rampant. If you order a…read morepackage, expect it to get stolen. One time I ordered something for same-day delivery, and even though I got there, an hour and a half after it was delivered, that package was already gone. Yikes. Hence, I thought I'll them shipped to a government building where it should be pretty safe. Now, I do want to mention, Amazon *can* deliver to a Locker or a Whole Foods, but not everything. Further, anything sent to me my non-Amazon can't go in a locker or Whole Foods. Now, while items delivered to the PO box would be held in relative safety, me getting it is another story. At the start, I found that packages weren't getting to me, with the clerk telling me that if there's no yellow slip in the PO box, then it hasn't been processed yet. Turns out, no. When the PO box was rented, cardboard was not removed from the back of it, which apparently signified that that said PO box was unoccupied. After lots of frustration, we finally figured out that, "oh, wait a minute, that cardboard shouldn't be there!" Okay, well now we removed it. I think it should be on the up and up from here, right? Not really. Not too long ago, I had a package that was shown as delivered and I came two days and some hours later to pick it up. I look in my PO box, and there's nothing. No package, no yellow slip, nada. I go to the clerk who tells me that after it arrives in the building, it takes two to three days to get processed. Really? After mail is delivered to the post office, it has to take an additional couple of days to get sub-delivered to the very same post office? Sure, it's a big building, but that doesn't make sense. Two more things about this location that have me pulling my fair out: 1. While to be fair, during my visits it wasn't super busy, there's usually only one or two people working behind the counter. 2. This post office allegedly has their street addressing service. That means that your PO box comes with a real street address you can use in additional to the standard "PO Box 1234 Chicago, Illinois." However, all but one of the staff seemed to have no idea what I'm talking about and what that address would be, even though I later saw it on a poster in the PO box area. Finally, if there is one area where I want to give them some points, it's that their hours are truly fantastic. They are open seven days a week, and on working days until midnight. This is perfect for me to be able to pick up my PO box items after work, even if I have to work a little bit late or if I need to mail something on a Sunday. Oh yes, and I almost forgot. The US Postal Service is kind of like Google... you can't really avoid it, unless you're going to send Christmas cards by FedEx. Just so, whether it's personally or where my job touches postal matters, it seems severe delays are as rampant as theft at my building.

This post office is located on the first floor of the Merchandise Mart, near the entrance closest to the CTA. No matter the time of day, the length of the line, or how many people are working, this place is always a shit show. As many of the reviews mention, it's so bad it's almost comical. You can't make this up. It's honestly the worst post office I've ever visited in my entire life. Heck, the one in my neighborhood now isn't rated the greatest but the service is one hundred times better. Save your sanity and go elsewhere.
