If you live in Prairie Shores you know all about this place because they won't bring packages or anything too large for your mailbox to the building's package room. You get those slips instead and requesting redelivery when you're home is ignored. So during busy shipping times (holidays, etc.) expect to come here and wait in line forever. Some of the employees are more cordial than others. I had both good and poor experiences and you can tell they are all under a ton of stress. One thing I can say is getting upset with them won't help you at all. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. There's always only a single employee. The wait is always 30-60 minutes. There always only one worker. Would it kill you to put a dang kiosk at one of the always empty stations so that we can at least help ourselves. I just want to drop off prepaid packages and get a dang receipt. AlSo if you're shipping stuff from here, even if it's prepaid, you better get a receipt because I've never had more packages lost in my life than I have from this location. Currently been standing in line for 25 minutes with two people in front of me the line is literally out the door behind me when I tried to scoot forward to make space for the more people. The employee told me that I could not do that and I needed to back up even though there's probably 30 feet between me and him. I said people are standing outside. I am starting to believe that it is a national requirement to be generally unpleasant and incompetent to work at any postal company, but this theory reigns especially true at USPS on State. I walked in today at 5:45pm. There were about 10-15 people in line with only one woman working. She got up at 5:50 and announced to the line that she would be locking the doors and if we weren't serviced by 6 then we would have to come back later since the doors weren't locked in advance enough. I don't recall a forgoing of completing daily tasks of your job like properly closing at an appropriate time an issue of mine, but apparently it is. I always empathize when a place is understaffed, but not when the only one working isn't apologetic in the slightest and decides to be rude to customers due to her own shortcomings. I went to get a letter that was in transit for 3 days expected to have arrived 3 days before and they tossed me from one counter to another. I called their usps customer service and they said the address on the letter was wrong when clearly it was correct. Thank god for informed delivery service because I had an digital image of the front window of the letter and was able to verify myself that the address is correct. The location is USPS 2035 S STATE ST CHICAGO IL 60616 Ms Bates was professional, caring and did some research regarding locating a tracking number and a package. She called me back to do a follow up once the packet arrived. Her team of employees on the floor are trained to be friendly, professional and helpful. As a consumer, I have a layman understanding that USPS as a whole is struggling with internal issues. It has been my experience that some locations are suffering more than others. I ordered over $250 worth of items the postal carrier for my location left in an unsecured box. My senior citizen building has locked Mail boxes and when you have packages too large for the mail box there is a larger box for those items. A key to that box is sure to be left in your mailbox to retrieve your packages. The postal carrier just left the items in the larger mailbox unsecured where anyone could retrieve them. It took me over six weeks to locate some of them. On occasion, the package will not be left at all!! read more

I went into this post office on July 21, 2022 to deliver a priority package. The young lady who help me was AA with fire red hair. Upon entering the location I requested priority tape to seal the package. The young lady said she didn't have any, which I work at a USPS so I am aware that even if we do not have priority tape we have to have some sort of tape for customers who come in and need to close packaging. I purchased priority shipping prior to coming to the location. According to the USPS website "Post Office™ retail locations provide free Priority Mail®, Priority Mail Express®, and Global Express Guaranteed® service packaging supplies for customers." She took my package after I had applied tape told me I must purchase it he tape. I stated no because again I work here so I am aware of the policies and procedures. The five stars is based on my experience this morning. It's probably the best post office experience I've had in Chicago. Of course, there was no line whatsoever which always makes things go smooth and pleasant. I came in to mail a package and buy some stamps. While I stood in line briefly --there was only one woman ahead of me-- a postal worker came up and offered to take my package since it already had postage. She also offered to take the package from the woman standing behind me in line. She was very polite and pleasant. Less than two minutes later, it was my turn at the main counter. The postal worker let me see which stamp designs were available. I made my choice and paid. This took less than two minutes as well. The postal worker was extremely nice and polite and... she smiled!!! Such a simple thing but, what a great feeling when someone smiles at you. I really don't remember the last time someone smiled at me in a post office. I felt like I had been transported back in time to some small town in the 1950's. When you think their service can't get worse, it does. I was shipping multiple items, and was just sealing the last one as she was ringing up the other two. As soon as she saw that I was sealing, she immediately told me to step aside. It only took me two seconds to tape up an envelope and it was ready as she was done talking. I told her it's ready can she just start ringing this one up so I can be done with my transaction, she said no she had to take someone else because it wasn't sealed when I got to the counter. I was in such a hurry because of their bad parking situation, I was blocking someone in, so I was trying to finish quickly before that person so he wouldn't have to wait for me. But no, she kept telling me to step aside and give other customer "space". I was not that close to anyone. And the other guy was THREATENING me saying they are not going to service me if I don't do what they say. And they both knew someone was waiting for me to finish so I can move my car. They still moved super slow finishing the all the transactions with NO sense of urgency. How these people have jobs is beyond me. They lost 2 packages last year with totally value over $1600!!! This post office is smaller, and doesn't have one of those automated shipping machines. I used to come here a couple years ago, when this grumpy old Asian man used to work the counter. It was really a hit or miss in terms of service. The parking "lot" is small - really, it's like a row for 8 cars, rarely ever a spot available. Sometimes most of the post office trucks are parked right there, as it is near the employee entrance. Anyway, I went in recently (like, today) and they now have two people at the counter and they were friendly (shocker, right?). There were a couple people ahead of me but my entire wait-ship-pay-bounce time was less than 5 minutes. Perhaps a lot of things have changed since my last visit, but can't really complain about the efficiency of today's visit! read more

On a Friday around 230pm to ship out two packages, which both are prepay already, just need to purchase two envelopes. With 5 people in front of the line, it took one staff (that's how many employee they have) , it took total of 40 mins to ship my package out. One star is way too generous! This location is trash! There is always just one clerk who moves the speed of a turtle! The parking lot is non existent as it's filled with carriers in postal vehicles and personal vehicles chatting it up. They also don't mind blocking traffic with personal vehicles. I have never had a more positive experience with the U.S. Post Office than I did last Friday afternoon. Miss Regina went ABOVE and BEYOND for a concern we had. Long story short: we were worried we had the incorrect postage price for 700 envelops that were previously dropped in the mail box earlier that day. Miss Regina not only explained the various possibilities that would occur if we did in fact have the improper postage, but she proactively went to the mailbox, sifted through & retrieved all 700 envelops herself (without my having requested it), then followed up with me with a phone call. She could have easily let the issue go and forgotten about me but Miss Regina made sure she followed through! She was extremely professional, patient, and beyond helpful! The postage ended up being a non-issue and the envelops delivered by that following Monday! Such an epic turnaround! read more

I wanted to be sure to write a positive review of the Carrier Supervisor. I had a package that had been rescheduled three times and finally tracked it waiting to be sent to the Post Office. It was late and a gift for someone before I leave to go out of town, but it was late causing me not to be able to get it in time. She located the package, stayed a few minutes late so my daughter could get there to pick it up and the gift was received. The Supervisor was very nice and calming as I stressed about catching my flight out and trying to track down the location of the gift. read more

I feel like there are certain businesses that people should just inherently know you're going to wait in line at, USPS is definitely one of them. Why people are surprised that there's always a line is beyond me. The parking situation is terrible but that goes with the location, there isn't much parking available in general. Park with your flashers on at your own risk or just go to a different location. If you happen to be trying to pick up a package - go online. Sign up for a USPS account and set up a re-delivery. This feature is especially helpful during winter when nobody wants to leave the house in general. I've been to this location several times and although rushed, I've never encountered downright rude employees. Perhaps I've just gotten lucky? The haphazard operations at this post office are bewildering, and it's extremely frustrating that they service my neighborhood. In recent years, missed delivery notices are left without delivery attempts (even when I was at home or someone else was available to answer the door). This has gotten worse with no notices being left although the tracking number would claim that delivery was attempted. I find myself stressed out and rushing to the post office after work so I can get my packages before they closed. Should I have been surprised seeing that people in line have pink slips in their hands trying to do the same? I just tried to call them regarding a package that shows delivered but did not arrive, and the representative (whom I later find out to be the supervisor) puts me on hold for more than 25 min. After hanging up and calling back, I'm told to call back after 6 pm as there is no one available to track a package. Why couldn't she have told me earlier? Anyway, follow-up phone call took almost an hour to get through with additional hold time and still no answers. This is just an example of how this post office does what is convenient for them and expects customers to put up with the bad service. I have written to the Postal Regulatory Commission and was advised to contact personnel at the District Consumer and Industry Contact office. They did not attempt they just left a "We tried" in my mailbox when I was actually home. If I could leave no stars I would. This is the WORST post office in Chicago. My office building is serviced by this post office. For the past 4 years, we have had nothing but issues. Mail delivery not showing up, mail person coming at 7PM. Mail person not putting mail in the buildings separate mail boxes and leaving a pile for over 50 companies to go through. Businesses need their mail before the end of business day!!!! How can we rectify our accounts? Because heads up!! Businesses still use checks as forms of payment. Hello!! I hate this post office!!! I'm from Michigan, where I know every worker in the post office by name, they even save tree branches for my mom because they know she does crafts with them. Needless to say, my family goes to the post office a lot. When I moved to Chicago, I didn't expect the exact same small town feel, but the workers here are awful! Last time I was there, I was next in line, and when the woman in front of me was done, I approached the counter and asked for 1 stamp. I was mailing a letter and had exact change. Then the lady yelled at me, told me to walk back to the line and that she'd call me when she was ready for me. I went back to the line, and she called me as soon as I got there. She did nothing different to "prepare for me" expect stare at me while I did it. There was another worker there screaming at an Asian couple (who spoke English, but asked each other questions about what to pick in their native tongue). She yelled at them that they had to speak English or they couldn't mail a package, when they were communicating with her just fine. It was packed in there and had to be pretty embarrassing. I'll go weeks without getting mail to my apartment, a lot of times it's returned to sender for no reason and if your address isn't on you Driver's License i.e. you're a student, they give you the hardest time when you go to pick up a package they're holding. Sometimes I have to return the next day just to get a new worker that'll understand. The postman (or woman) that does our street is too lazy to even ring the doorbell when she has a package. I don't think she even takes it out of her car. I've been home all day waiting for a package, only to find out that they left a note on the door without knocking or ringing the bell. I have a special place in my heart for postal employees because both of my parents work for the post office. My father is out there nearly every day delivering mail to provide for our family. That said- fucking shit I hate this post office branch. Everyone here is slow moving and incompetent and they have a man at the front who takes extra long with female customers so he can hit on them while the line drags on for everyone else. They don't stock their materials properly and blame it on the customers by saying "Oh yea the customers come up in here and move the boxes around. Those are supposed to be on the other side." After giving me a hard time because I picked up the wrong box to mail something out. Take ownership and make sure your shit is stocked correctly. So dissatisfied with this facility. I've had two events in the last month where I did not receive a package. The first one, I'm still sick about....ordered a personalized anniversary gift for my parents' 60th wedding anniversary. The shipper sent it priority and while tracking the package it said it was delivered...it was not delivered. I filed a complaint, the PO rejected my complaint, so I appealed. They eventually approved my appeal but not for the full amount of my item. Second time was just yesterday where they say they tried to deliver a small package (that has been delivered in the past) but there was nowhere to leave it. We have a large mailbox. So "they say" they put a notice on my door, (guess what? No notice) and now I have to arrange for redelivery. They are either thieves at this facility or they are just plain incompetent. I agree with previous post! There are THIEVES here! Most of my packages have been STOLEN - claimed LOST for the last 2 holidays (2014 and 2015)! If you have packages ordered online, have it delivered to your work that does not use this post office (zip) as a sender as it will definitely GET STOLEN! When you try to inquire over the phone, they are rude and they put you on a long hold then hang up. The worst post office ever. I stood in line for one hour, with about 12 people ahead of me. It took the SINGLE employee working about 5-15 minutes PER customer to handle the mail. Then, when I get to the head of the line, I asked for media mail because I am shipping media mail items. With his HORRENDOUS accent, I *think* he threatened me that if the item in my box were not a media mail item, they would send the item back. Out of sheer frustration over standing in line for an hour, I said screw it and asked for priority mail, so the USPS weaseled more money out of me even after standing in line for an hour. Oh, it was also fun watching the bitchiest woman stand with her hands crossed against a wall, literally doing nothing for an entire hour, except saying she was not qualified to work behind the desk and informing a poor woman who had also been standing in line for an hour that her car was being towed (she had parked underneath the EL tracks, for an hour).
