This Post Office substation branch has greatly improved its service and their staff now is more consistently pleasant and helpful. While they may sometimes have just one person at a time handling a long line of customers, the professionalism of the staff and the convenience of having a substation here in Hyde Park greatly makes up for those occasional slow times. read more

Recently went in to get a few things and was greeted (to say the least) by a women that couldn't "hear me" - mind you this women had personal headphones on listening to music and made me speak louder. I agree with most of the one-star comments here. The staff are rude, always having a sad or indifferent looking. Two awful experiences I have with them: 1. I once had a package to send, and I needed to use about 2 or 3 ft of tape, and that lady said that I had to buy a new roll of their overpriced USPS tape! Never heard that before. 2. Today, I called them several times during their office hours and nobody answered the phone! This prompted me to write a review here. Seriously, I was wondering who put these people here. Did they get any job interview to work in this place? If so, the USPS recruiting really has big problems. I miss the other Post Office on the UChicago campus. Of you're looking to experience the bowels of "hue"manity disguised as postal workers this is your place. Awful people. That is rarity for me to say as I'm generally optimistic. Skip this location and go to the Office Depot just across the parking lot. It's faster, friendlier and doesn't cost any more than going to the post office. You would think with all of the competition in shipping, each manager would make sure his/her team can serve without verbally abusing their customers. Post offices are slow. What is wrong with that sentence??!? Well - nothing.....except for the fact that it's redundant. Right? Like tasty bacon, lame Chicago Bears or elegant French (umm....I know...self-promotion...I am sorry. Just a bit.) So even though it takes a while to get to the magic spot just behind the counter I really enjoy this place for the simple fact that it's not run by the awful people on 58th street. At least - one of them. We even have an ugly nickname for the person in question among my friends, but behind the nice and diplomat gal I am - I am not going to share.... I've come here on a few trips because work required it. Each time I forget about my previous visit until I have committed myself. Every time I have had to wait at least 30 minutes, often over one hour, just to be seen by the staff. This time, I needed to ship something out quick, so I brought my items that were being shipped in a priority mail box even though I wasn't shipping via priority mail. The clerk told me that I cannot ship my items in these boxes and told me to leave. Other locations have offered used boxes or even selling new ones rather than flat out refusing me service. Additionally this post-office may be in okay shape, at best. It hasn't been properly cleaned in a VERY long time, and there are often missing shipping supplies that you may need. I would recommend that anyone considering shipping items via USPS go to the Office Depot and pay extra--it's really worth it. This is the place for you if one or more of the following apply: - You enjoy waiting in line for one to three hours - Rude and unhelpful customer service are enjoyable - You enjoy standing in a room that hasn't been cleaned in about a month (there was hair, dust, waste, etc just swept over to a corner and left). read more

I've been to this place twice and their service is impeccable. First time I went there, there was a long queue which moved quickly enough. And while people were queuing, a staff would check the needs of the customer and try to expedite the entire process by giving further instructions/information/accessories such that when that person got to the counter, there wouldn't be much hassle at all. Second time I went there, I had an electronic item which I wanted to return to a company. I needed advice as to the most economical way to send the item back - what options are available for me, whether to use the priority mail or something else. This lady came up to me and gave me sound advice. She was superbly friendly, helped with packaging the item and sent me on my way to the counter where I was met with a sweet and equally friendly ma'am. I've been reading horrid reviews about postal offices and always go in bracing myself for a storm. There were times when the whole office was dead and the staff were like zombies, but I'm giving 2 thumbs up for the staff here as I emerge pleasantly surprised and happy (and relieved too actually)! read more

They said come pick it up, so I went to this office and was told they didn't have any mail there. I've lived in several cities and this is by far the worst post office situation I've ever dealt with. A month or so ago, I waited in - I kid you not - a 3-hour line that went out the door and into the street, just to collect a package that was marked online as needing to be picked up. As I got closer to the front of the line, I realized that they didn't have anybody's packages to be picked up. Instead of a postal worker coming out to address the line like a reasonable, decent human being to tell everyone that if their package had been marked as needing to be picked up, it'll go out for delivery again soon, they let each person walk up to the window after hours in line, one by one. For each customer, they would then shuffle around in the back, knowing fully well that they didn't have any packages for anybody in the back, only to come back to tell them "Whoops, sorry, it'd be out for delivery again soon." There's zero accountability there and a lot of pure laziness, to be honest. I never write reviews like this, because I see the good in people and understand extenuating circumstances, but the situation at this post office, which I've experienced negatively several times now, is truly negligent. On two occasions, I've seen customers in the post office literally shouting at the employees because of the bad service here. One lady was so upset and so helpless in terms of recourse, that she threatened to involve a local news crew. I left the post office - as did dozens of others in the constantly regenerating line - with no package. It only finally came a month after it was supposed to have (no exaggeration). I know nobody working there would want to be treated the way that they treat their customers. If you're a manager at this post office, please be reasonable and do something to create some change, because what's going on here is not right. read more

If I could give a negative rating, I would. This post office is the Bad Place. TL;DR, worst customer service ever, horrifically slow lines, meanest clerks. Avoid Starla at all costs. After having to make a sudden move, I was left to deal with several packages being sent to my old address, so I promptly did a USPS package intercept for 3/4 of my packages. I paid for the intercepts, and received a confirmation that they had been entered into the system. Unfortunately, when I checked the tracking numbers for the three packages, I saw that they had been unable to "access the delivery location" and that they would try redelivery. This was already fishy as I had requested the packages be held at a post office near me. How could they not access the post office as a delivery location? Unclear. After a long phone call with USPS, I found out that the package intercepts had been "unsuccessful" and that they were being held at the original post office- this one. After 7 unsuccessful phone calls to this post office (no one picked up, no voicemail either), my only option was to go to this garbage place. I arrived inside to be greeted by a long and slow moving line, and an icy blast of frigid air conditioning. I then waited in line for about 25 minutes, and when I finally made it to the front of the line, Starla the desk clerk immediately dismissed me and hurriedly told me to go write down my name and tracking numbers. I must have missed that she also asked me to write down the address it was sent to, and that's understandable, but when I came back with my paper, she glanced at my paper told me in the most condescending way that obviously I needed to write down my address too. This is actually not obvious, as all of the relevant information is attached to the tracking numbers, which I assumed she would be looking up. When I finally had everything written down, I made my way back to the counter, and explained my situation to her, all while Starla shook her head at me and gave me looks showing that she clearly thought I was some feeble minded idiot. When I was finished relating what USPS had told me this morning, she took off with my paper and proceeded to leave my friend and I standing with there for about 45 minutes. She showed up half way through and unceremoniously dumped 2 of my packages, both labeled fragile, sideways and on top of each other, precariously placed on a rolling chair. She then came back 15 minutes later with my larger package, around 30 lbs, and asked us maybe 5 times if we were sure we could carry the packages by ourselves. As a side note, all 3 packages were very clearly labeled PACKAGE INTERCEPT in quite a large font. With that, we were released from this hellish place, and left eagerly. We also saw Starla treat several customers in front of us in line much more politely, without dripping in condescension. I saw other reviews saying that she treated Asian people badly, and I totally believe it. I'm Indian, my friend is white, and the difference in customer service was very clear to me. As I sit here seething, I hope that everyone avoids this place like the plague. Or you know, COVID. read more

I'm tired of only going onto yelp when I need to complain. But it's getting harder and harder to find places that truly deliver a good experience. I'm not asking for bells and whistles and bending over backwards for me, let's start with the easier of all things - a smile. This location was terrible and the woman that barley interacted with was even more terrible because she couldn't even muster up the energy for a smile, not even a slight smile at that. Why do companies hold onto these people that drive business away? Apparently my package couldn't be sent via ground shipment, so instead of giving me options and or ASSISTING to the matter she let me walk out. These postal workers really have it figured out. They do the minimum amount of work and get away with it because they have their union to back them up. They really have it good, don't they? I dropped off a package on the morning of July 18th and they managed to lose it before it even had its origin scan. I tried calling to sort things out...5 times in a row to no avail. I don't know why I ever expected anyone to answer. That would mean they had to put forth a little effort. We wouldn't want that to happen, now would we? All of the times that I have been in this location my wait has been 20 minutes or more with an average of 4 people ahead of me. And the employees all need a serious attitude adjustment. Not once have I ever been give a simple hello or a second of eye contact. They must use up all their daily allotment of shits to give just by getting out of bed in the morning. You'd think they were doing their job for free and everyone who enters this post office is a raging asshole. I can't deal with this post office anymore...or the USPS in general. They are circling the drain and I will gladly pay FedEx, UPS or even DHL twice as much if it means these abhorrent beast women have to get a real job. read more

This is THE worst post office location in the city. It is Saturday morning. The outlet is supposed to open at 8:30 a.m. The doors did not swing open until 9:50!!!! And then there was only one woman working the desk. Enough is enough with this location. The customer service on a regular basis is surly, slow and inefficient and now they're opening the doors whenever they get good and ready? This has to stop. The postal clerks are abusive. A few of us commented on the lack of service and they all disappeared for ten minutes...the front desk was empty with the line going out the door. I have been going to this location for five months at least twice a week. The customer service is HORRIBLE. The clerks act as if customers are interrupting their socialization time with each other. I have observed the clerks are extremely rude to foreigners and elderly people. When the two parties inquiry about things the clerks have responded, "Can you read"? Two of the clerks are overbearing and offensive to the core. Taking priority envelopes and boxes make them mad. Several times I have been instructed to sign up to have the priority material to be shipped to my residence opposed to taking from "My Customers". I am a customer and the material is free. However, taking three boxes will make the clerk GO OFF. At times I have been the next customer and the clerk walked away to the back. Left me at the counter to wait. I have also over heard the clerks laughing and insulting me among each other. No matter how friendly and pleasant I am to them the clerks are demeaning. The problem with the staff is unprofessionalism and the lack of interpersonal skills. One chews gum and talks. If she is asked to repeat herself she will slow the service down and speak to you crazy. "I saaaaaaid, yooooou n.....eeeeeed toooooooo c....om.....ppppppplete this f.......orm".How rude is that? I always get tracking numbers for an extra fee. When I go online the package remains at the location for days. Something has been done with the level of disrespect at this location. I believe an investigation team should do random checks as a customer at this location. The service is too slow and the clerks could careless about the customers. At times one person works the counter as one service clerks hangs in the back. No concern for the customers time. THIS LOCATION IS DUE NO STARS and one star is not my true mind set. read more

This post office has a "self service" area with a sign, but doesn't actually have self service. I don't understand why this place doesn't have one of those computerized self-service stations. The line is always ridiculously long and there is no place to put pre-stamped packages. read more

This post office continually does not deliver my mail. I've filed several complaints about and still it keeps happening. I get a message saying "the business was closed" for packages. 1. I don't live in a business. 2. I live in an apartment complex that they HAVE THE KEY FOR. And when I try to call to work it out as suggested by the message telling me they couldn't deliver to my "business" the phone just rings and rings. I seriously wish I could give this place 0 stars.3 days later I still don't have my package. I just got hung up on and as soon as I called back I got put on hold. I'm now 15 minutes into this hold. When I told the woman I had been hung up on she just ignored me, said there's two callers before you and put me on hold. I'm now completely pissed off. read more

When people talk about nightmares at the post office, THIS is the place they are talking about! Waited about an hour to buy stamps while most of that time only one employee was at the counter. She was EXTREMELY rude to most customers!!! Most post offices actually run by the USPS have machines to dispense stamps. The absolute worst post office ever. I'm not sure what's worse the lines or the customer service after you've patiently waited.

First off, I accidentally gave this post office location 1 star when they deserve none. In general: - this location is CONSISTENTLY slow - the one with the glasses CONSISTENTLY is on break when the line is going out the door - I've heard employees at the counter talking about "needing their break" when the line is going out the door - I've seen employees leave the counter to go on break when the line is going out the door - There always seems to be a line going out the door Note to staff: if there's a line going out the door, you don't get to go on break until you clear the line...Fair enough? Nor should ANY customer hear you discussing breaks when they're in the back of the line by the door or anywhere else in line. The specifics: - the one with the braids is the only one who hasn't pissed me off - The lighter complexioned one is usually the best worker of the 3 but she pissed me off today leading to this post....here's how: I went to the South Holland post office (much better service along with Orland Park) Last week To get an international shipping estimate for an eBay customer . The worker there kindly provided me with an estimate as well as a customs form to have ready when I was ready to ship the package. When I arrived at the counter of the Hyde Park post office after a 40-45 minute wait in line (the one with the glasses was on break...) packages ready, customs form ready, money out & ready - basically making her job easier for her so the people behind me going out the door can be moved faster - she tells me I need "the large customs form for that big ole box" I told her an employee at another post office gave me this form after she estimated the cost for this very same box. She told me she couldn't help what 'somebody' else at another post office said; I need a large form. "Next" (to the customer behind me) I did get the form to fill out off to the side of the counter but I never filled it out because I was running late for MY work as was the gentleman in line ahead of me (40-45 minute wait) but honestly she didn't deserve any more of my TIME so I took everything and walked out. MY customers remain unserved. There's nothing anyone can do to replace the time stolen from someone else. I would like to say that they won't get Anymore of my money but they're the closest and within walking distance so I'm not sure what my options are aside from going out of my way to South Holland and Orland Park read more

I've used this post office a number of times because it's now the only one in the immediate area, and I have to say that it would be worth it to drive elsewhere. Better yet, use the FedEx a couple streets over. If I could give this zero or negative stars, I would. Not only is the staff unbelievably rude every time I go in there, they refuse to do any work whatsoever and instead offer the equivalent of "that's not my problem" to every question I've asked. A package of mine was held there for over two weeks and the postal worker denied it without even bothering to check. This is obviously part of a larger issue with post offices and the fact that their control over the mail system lets them get away with flagrant abuse of their customers, but very few post offices are as terrible as this one. If you feel like having someone condescend to you when you ask a simple informational question, this is the post office for you. If you feel like having your packages actually reach your destination and want to avoid being treated in a completely unacceptable manner.......again, just go to FedEx. read more

This place has the most outdated employees and registers. They always have just one clerk working and it doesn't matter if the line inside is wrapped around. Usual wait time with 8 customers and 1 USPS clerk is about 15 to 20 minutes. I remember last year during the holidays I nearly lost my mind in here. I was in there 45 minutes.
