I personally think it's somewhat useless to rate the performance and experience from any government agency. I also was hesitant to write a review, but I thought my explanations might be helpful for some. I went to this branch to apply for a passport on a Saturday morning. Yes, the website had the "thorough" instructions on what documents, both original and photocopied, they needed. Both hubby and I still felt unclear, mainly on the diction. Don't get me wrong. The staff was patient even though hubby expressed his frustration. They were cool and no one took it personally. Hence I could only render three (3) stars because I did successfully submit my passport application...that morning. Ok, now here's the gist. Are ya'll ready? 1) Why should you make an appointment online? It guarantees your queue, versus those who don't make one. When I was there, the staff called out the customers with appointments first. Without an appointment, you had to take chances and lots of waiting might be involved. Making an appointment online was pretty easy. Lots of reminders were sent to my text and e-mail. 2) what documents do you need for applying for a passport? - the state ID or a driver's license (you have to show the staff who processes the application) - photocopied ID (both front and back) - the "original copy" of proof of U.S. citizenship. This WILL BE mailed with your application. - the photocopied version of proof of U.S. citizenship - Of course, the application (no need to fill out "section 2") 3) what was our frustration? Hubby and I read the instructions more than three (3) times. We didn't know the my original naturalization certificate needed to be submitted. That was a piece of very important document and we were not comfortable with that. We ended up driving to the nearby Fedex and made some photocopies, just in case. Do I trust the government agency? Not really, but s*it got to be done through USPS. I had no choice. 4) On the top first page of instruction sheets, it stated "proof of U.S. citizenship: Evidence of U.S. citizenship AND a photocopy of the front (and back, if there is printed information) must be submitted with your application. Ok, I got it and it did imply the original must be given at the time of application. It definitely could be rephrased in a much more clear manner. 5) the fee for the passport alone is $110 (as of 06/30/2018). If you also need a passport card, it will be $140. No credit or debit cards can be accepted. Fortunately, I had a couple of old personal checks and paid with a check. 6) processing fee for the passport is $35. This can be paid with a credit or debit card. 7) the facility here takes passport photos, which is an additional $15. This fee can also be paid with either a credit or debit card. I also noticed that many walk-ins for passport application came in after 11am. The best strategy is to get there early to avoid this whole waiting game. I hope my passport shows up at my house without any hiccup, yet we will see... read more

The carriers in this post office have lost/misdelivered/stolen my packages many times. Sometimes they have arrived half open. They also mark packages as delivered and then packages either show up two to three days later OR not at all. Then when you file a complaint or claim they deny everything stating the item was marked as delivered. Government dollars at waste!!! I'm shocked they are allowed to perpetrate this type of fraud with the mail delivery seeing as this is federal government facility. Horrendous mail delivery service, if you can even call it service. Complete garbage pile, you will be lucky to get your mail before 6pm, constantly having a sub who is never trained properly, the management here should all be fired and bring in anyone who can do a decent job. If you're waiting in line just avoid Ladonna, super slow and arrogant, you're waiting half an hour in line and when it's finally your turn she points out her finger like a god if you still wait and let someone else who just got there or if it's your turn, make sure you bring your own pen, because all of them are gone unless you wait half hour and Ladonna give you one and sends you back to do her job, I guess too lazy to write an address or supply pens for people waiting in line. Took me 15 seconds to write that address down but another few minutes to get back "my turn" again... read more

This is a terrible post office. I have lived in CA for three years now and every single card, letter, or package I have sent takes weeks and arrives late. Too late. I have spoken to the superintendent of this post office and complained. I have a niece and she has a daughter and they live in Portage Park. I have a relationship with them, but unfortunately, I live so far away its hard for me to stay connected. Sometimes my niece will get my cards, but her daughter never does. I mail them in the same slot, at the same time. I am extremely disappointed and sad about this. Growing up, I looked forward to receiving letters and cards. I don't think I will use the post office again with this kind of terrible service. So much for the U.S. Post Office. I do NOT recommend using this post office!!! Imagine a place so incompetent, that they have a solid decade of worst post office in America. Screw Jordan this place is truly the goat of Chicago, just the pile of garbage that came after Jordan. You never get the same carrier do to everyone starting here gets overworked and quits. The management is so terrible, that you could throw all your silverware in the microwave, set that thing to five hours, and you're still a Mensa member compared to anything that works there. Sucking is the plan and they got the blueprints. Anyone who gives this place more then one star is either only been there once and got very lucky, or just lying. I'm really getting annoyed that there is no customer parking and that employees take all the parking with their person vehicles. I know this to be true because I saw 1 customer inside and no spots. They even park in handicap. They really need 15 min parking for prepaid drop off boxes. I should not have to park blocks away. These employees are rude and will actually yell at you if you "make up a parking spot". I'm sorry but STOP parking your personal cars in the lot save room for paying customers! Absolutely the worst service. Not only did they not follow up stating there camera wasn't working. They have you waiting with no direction or time frame. Line is almost out the door. This post office is by far the most efficient location. Each employee is kind and personable. This location is the only post office I will conduct any transactions at. It's like day and night compared to any other location. If the other locations would strive to be like the Irving Park location the USPS's reputation would improve. I've used them to mails packages and most recently for a passport application process. The employee, Katrina, was especially kind and helpful. She helped me with the abundance of paper work for my large family. She went above and beyond her duty. Each employee treated the surrounding customers with respect. Something I've NEVER seen at the other USPS locations. Who ever trained or is management at this location keep us the good work. Especially Katrina!!! read more

By far one of the worst post offices I've ever dealt with. The mail carriers here are terrible, I've had so many notices left in my mailbox when I was home simply because they didn't feel like carrying packages. I've also had packages that were "delivered" according to the tracking number but not to me. I am SO sick and tired of constantly calling and having to deal with this crap. I've lived at this address for over 2 years and at this rate, I think I should be getting a salary from USPS. I even approached a mail lady about a year ago who had to admit to me that she hadn't brought my packages --- why not? Because my name wasn't printed on the mailbox or she couldn't make it out. IT IS PRINTED OUT FROM A DAMN LABEL MAKER, there is no such this as a more clear name. Lazy, lazy, lazy. HIRE SOME COMPETENT EMPLOYEEES! ...tonight, I don't have my eye glasses that have apparently been delivered to me. Awesome. I could get into the absolute lack of customer service at the actual post office but I don't think anyone wants to read a novel of a review. read more

It's pretty simple, actually. One star. In fact, if anyone in the Yelp universe has a post office you can honestly rate better than 2 stars I need to know about it. It's a typical post office. That means long lines, extraordinarily slow service, not exactly friendly staff, refusing to open up other stations... you all know it as well as I do. It's typical. So the one star isn't entirely because of any characteristics of this location but is in general a reflection of my decades long experiences with post offices all over the US. However, the mail delivery service here truly has been noteworthy- and not in a good way. There are days (pretty much every week) that there is no mail delivery. Not just to me, but none at all. My security camera monitors the sidewalk and some days no mailman walks by at all. I have the Informed Delivery app on my phone that tells me what mail is gonna be delivered today. Nice, right? Well some days that mail just doesn't quite get here. Some days a mail carrier comes by at noon, sometimes at 7:00PM, some days not at all. And go ahead and try to put outgoing mail in your box for them to pick up. Won't happen. No surprise- one star. read more

It's simple - prepay for a shipping label online, come in and drop off your package. Walk out. You'll be in and out in 30 seconds. They typically have a line out the door so if you don't want to wait it, you'll have to do that because they DO NOT have an automated machine that you can use like other post offices. Yes, the parking lot also sucks, but oh well, get over it. Everything I drop off gets shipped very quickly! And I mean it. They process packages fast here compared to other post offices in Chicago....and for that, they deserve five stars. I come here a minimum of 3 times a week. read more

After going here today, I completely understand why the stars are low. I came in here tonight to ship off a small box with a phone inside. Clerk # 82 was very unhelpful and had an attitude every time he spoke. When I would simply just ask a question he kind of made you feel like you were stupid. But, they lost a package with over $150 in merchandise, so they are worthless. In situations like these you should write to the Congressman or Senator regarding the experience. I went and asked "mrs Davis" what the problem was she said my 7 looked like a 9 when it clearly did not. I asked if she can please re ship as it was there mistake. If there is a choice not to give a star- I won't press this one star for this USPS location. My girlfriend received a notification from her e-mail that her package was delievered however when she went home, she couldn't find it so she called this post office. They gave her a run around, too, kept her on hold for more than an hour, got back to her 2 days after and let her wait for their so- called investigation for several days and told her that they couldn't do anything because they "asked" their carrier and that carrier said, he put it on my gf's porch. What an idiot! Her parents were at home that time, why didn't he ring their doorbell so the carrier could hand it to her parents ? Poor customer service, no help at all, rude and they're so lazy in investigating if their carrier has poor performance. I went here to return a postal money order. The clerk seemingly training someone told me to sit and wait. There were two other clerks capable of handling my inquiry. I waited five minutes and left. I'm disgusted every time I have to step into a USPS office. The clerks are the worse you can encounter. My time is wasted, I am treated with total indifference, no courtesy. I shipped a book using media mail, and I told the lady the cheapest, and I paid $6.11 to ship a book from IL to NY? How is that? Don't even dare to ask the lady any question otherwise be ready to be humiliated with their garbage attitude. They do not deserve the job they have, they don't earn their salary! This is the WORST Post Ofice I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with! Last week: It was painful waiting in line, watching one Teller take forever to sign in, another Teller sign in and walk away, and the only Teller actually working allowed some employee from the back to cut in line to do her personal business on company time. When I finally got to the counter to send my package with Delivery Confirmation, I am greeted without any apologies for the delay in service and for the untimely wait in line. For them, it's just another day at the office. Earlier this week: my boyfriend had a package delivered to his home. It took us days and several trips to the post office to recover it. Present day: We tried another approach. My boyfriend used their automated service to send out a Priority Envelope with Delivery Confirmation on Wed, Dec 14. It was suppose to be in Plainfield on Fri, Dec 16. We tracked it on the website today, Sun Dec 18, and it's still in Chicago! Do we get a refund for their service not living up to its promise? Enclosed in the envelope was a birthday present for his birth Mom. Time was of the essence! There is only one race working at this place. Where is the diversity? These employees are representative of their work ethics stereotype. I really wouldn't call this part of town Portage Park either. It's on the wrong side of the Milwaukee Ave. read more
