SHIPPERS BEWARE: Use USPS flat rate boxes or you will pay dearly!! For 8 years, I've gone to the post office at 2011 W. Montrose Ave. in Chicago to ship packages. I (re)use my own boxes, pack, label and tape them up carefully at home so I am ready to go (you're welcome to those behind me in line). Yesterday, there were 7 people in line, in a small space (during covid) and right away I noticed 2 other customers re-packaging items into USPS boxes and envelopes. The postal worker was being extremely helpful to direct customers to the right sized boxes and envelopes, then the customers would step aside to repack items, then go to the front when ready. It happened a 3rd time, and I wondered why people don't pack their boxes at home. We all have Amazon boxes; why not re-use them!? The postal worker said it would cost $25 to ship my 5 pound box and I thought she must be mistaken. She suggested I re-pack it into a medium flat-rate box and it would be only $15. But that meant undoing all the tape, packing and labels and adding 10-15 minutes to my errand. For the sake of the 8 customers behind me, I decided to ship it as is. As I was getting my receipt, the postal worker said it could take 20 days to arrive in California. What the what?! So it will be a month late for the intended bday, despite the excessive cost and all the time it took me to wrap and ship the darn thing. USPS has changed their pricing. I recommend 1) Picking up flat rate boxes ahead of time to make sure it fits; 2) Using a pre-paid shipping label so you can drop and go or 3) Seeing if UPS is cheaper (I could have sent it UPS from the Staples store 2 blocks from home and I just found a 20% off coupon!). SHIPPERS BEWARE. If you don't use the right USPS packaging, you will pay a LOT more and your package may go on extended vacation before it arrives at the destination. It makes shopping on Amazon way more affordable (sorry local stores I support) and does not allow us to re-use all those darn boxes. P.S. My rating is a mix of (-) shock at the cost and delay to ship my package AND (-) the only postal worker (+) she was going out of her way to help each customer find the best/cheapest option but (-) it made the line long and slow). read more

I have shipped so many packages from here and, suspiciously, they always seem to be the ones that sit around for WEEKS before being sent out. The tracking does not update, my customers complain, and nothing changes. This post office simply does not seem to be processing packages in a timely way. Went to this location at about 2:00 on a Friday to buy postage for our wedding invitations. They had two types of stamps available. The lady who helped me was so nice and so helpful. It's a post office. It's bound to be not great. I've learned to do the research on my own and pre-pay for labels so I can just drop my package off and run. There are 3 regular employees here, one younger girl about mid twenties, one older woman around 50-60 and one older gentleman a bit older than her. The younger girl and the older gentleman are super helpful always. The younger girl especially. I've made some dumb mistakes with labels/packaging and she never gets annoyed and is always helpful. The older woman I would avoid. She's not the friendliest, as everyone else has mentioned. I don't care enough to report her like some people do because I'm sure she just has other things in her life that make her upset at work. Just be patient and try not to feel belittled or singled out because she's like that to everyone. read more

She repeatedly huffs and puffs and rolls her eyes, which would be whatever if she was at the very least helpful- but she's completely and totally unwilling to assist you with anything more than her printed job description. One woman who works the counter is truly a nightmare...it's either she's angry about something or tells her problemed life story to you _ WHEN YOU JUST WANT TO MAIL A PACKAGE!!! I have not been back to this little station in years, since my insured $600 item wasn't delivered and the USPS has been stonewalling me, after submitting proof that my package was not delivered to the correct address. I'm not accusing anything now, BUT I believe something shady went on prior to my package being sent out from there. If you want the least friendly and highly annoying USPS experience this is your place. I try to be nice every time I have to go here and get nothing more than primitive grunts in return. I'm pretty sure the employees here are trying to take as long as possible with each customer and only care about getting paid and taking breaks. I gave them 2 stars because it beats the experience at the USPS in Uptown. The lines here are typically shorter (because no one wants to go here?!?). However I still try to avoid the USPS at all costs. They could really learn something about customer service from visiting even the worst UPS store in the city. read more

I'm only giving it four stars as it relates to other post offices in town. The hours are accommodating (8:30am til 7pm on weekdays) and there usually isn't much of a line. I see a lot of reviews going on and on about less-than-cheerful employees, but I'm not really concerned with that. They help you with whatever mail-related task you're trying to accomplish. Add an automated postal machine, and Saturday morning hours, and I think I would go so far as 5 stars. The ONLY good post office branch in the city. There is usually a small line, but it moves, and the people that work there are actually NICE PEOPLE. They say things like "hello" and "have a good one!" They work quickly, and clearly have much happier lives than people at other branches (*cough* I mean YOU, Lawrence Branch evil people*). I stand in line always ready to be sneered at, put down, or just ignored, and I build up that little angry squirrel in my stomach, and then *poof* they are nice, and I relax, I ship my package, they take my money, and I walk out without an angry cloud surrounding me. I'm very hesitant to write this review. The reasoning for my hesitation? Well, I'm scared that this gem of a USPS will become slammed due the superb customer service and lean lines. After enduring the BS, and most disgusting rude form of screw the paying customer, from the Lawrence branch of laziness, I, along with many, decided to boycott this Section 8, dirty, "low rent" USPS. On a balmy summer day, just like Forest Gump, I decided to take a walk. Unlike Gump, I did not run, but merely (at a snail's pace) simply walked, and eventually stumbled upon the absolute best USPS, ever! Listen, the guy & gal: friendly African American woman, and the Hispanic dude, who is absolutley hilarious, are AMAZING! Yes, friendly, accommodating, and expeditious service awaits. I've been to this particular USPS branch at least a dozen times, and it is, by far, the best location. I will, w/o doubt to continue my patronage to this branch. It is worth the walk, or extra minute drive, to experience true, faithful Gov't employees that offer A+ customer service! read more

It's no wonder the USPO is losing money. A perfect example of how Government cannot do anything efficiently and should not be involved in anything...... I was expecting a package that was shipped last week - when I tracked it this morning, the message said it was delivered at 1:45 yesterday, but not at our address which is a business. When I call this location they never answer the phone. It rings until it turns to a busy signal. Why bother listing a phone number if nobody will answer? The postman who delivers our mail ALWAYS delivers mail that is meant for another office down the street. And EVERY postal worker who has ever delivered our mail at this location have ALWAYS been on their cell phones, everyday, all day. We can hear them bullshitting on their calls because we are on the ground floor. They shove the wrong mail in the slot and keep on blabbing away. As I said, it's no wonder the Post Office is losing money and NOT DELIVERING THE MAIL, AND WHAT IS BEING DELIVERED IS TO THE INCORRECT ADDRESS!!! read more

Chaundra, in particular, displays contempt for each customer that walks through those doors. On any given day, Chaundra can be rude, combative, unfriendly, or just plain unhelpful; they roll their eyes at customers, issue snide remarks, and don't provide their undivided attention when being asked question (exhibited by walking away from the customer as they speak). read more

I live very close to the Ravenswood Post Office on Lawrence, but almost any time will I make the trek to the other side of Welles Park to Damen and Montrose to visit my favorite "Dick and Jane" post office. It is such a far cry from the third world Ravenswood experience, its difficult to believe it's run by the same people. Although this small branch is actually part of the Lakeview/Irving P.O., I believe. But ultimately part of the infamous Chicago USPS, which has one of the worst reputations in the country. Great, courteous, kind and knowledgeable staff here, though. Short lines, small town atmosphere. You might expect to run into Aint Bee there! If you need that little extra piece of tape on the box, they'll just fix it for you. Always looking to help you find the fastest and cheapest way to send. I've never been called "honey" there, but it wouldn't surprise me if that happened. This is one of those "best kept secrets" things which I REALLY hesitate to share, but I just feel I need to. It's just a pleasant little gem for anyone who lives within a couple miles of Ravenswood, and who wants to avoid the pitfalls and unpleasantness of some of the bigger Post Office facilities, especially the Ravenswood one. read more

I always dread going to the post office, mainly because of the rude USPS workers. Thankfully this is my neighborhood post office and they have friendly workers. I always get a kick out the sign at the entrance that reads: "Please Wait Ere Util You Are Calle." This may have been trickery by the customers who wait in the long line at the entrance for the attendent. I wish this location had the touch-screen machine to prepare our own packages to send, decreasing the wait. However, I'll take the nice employees and just live with it. read more

I'm really getting sick of this place. Sometimes it's great like Jack P. pointed out with short lines and good service, etc. But more often than not, I get stuck in a long line with one staff member at the counter working slower than molasses. And to add insult to injury, the other staff person walks up to the front and organizes their stall but doesn't help customers. I've tried coming at different times of day, everything, but it just seems so incredibly slow here. Also, they don't put all of the forms you might need out in the lobby area which is ridiculous. I have to wait in line twice to mail internationally. They are quite knowlegeable, however, which makes it nice once I do finally reach that counter. But boy can they be in bad moods. I've seen the workers take their bad day out on customers more than once. Yeah, it's a post office, I get it...government job, understaffed, underpaid...but at least they have a job. This place is too close to my house to give up on it completely, but it's a fairly frustrating experience. read more

I too would like to recommend this PO if you need to do some small tranactions or mailing. There are often only two clerks, so if a small business shipper with many small packages or envelopes is ahead of you it may take a while to get through the line. Compared to any other PO, besides the Graceland Station on ashland, you will get out before "going postal". If you need a late day postmark please go inside for the 7:00pm pickup- don't use the outdoor mailbox which last empties at 5:00pm. Parking is tough but leave your flashers on in the bus stop if there are no spaces in front. read more

The post office experience is normally one I don't look forward to. I had to drop off two pieces of mail to send to my neice and nephew in North Carolina, this afternoon. After the mail sitting in my car overnight, the adhesive on the back of the envelope had frozen, and was no longer sticky. On the chance the post office people may have tape I could use, I decided to come inside and ask. The gentleman working at the counter enthusiastically taped the back of my envelope, and offered to weigh my envelopes to ensure I had enough postage. Sure enough, I was about 12 cents off per package. He quickly added the extra postage, saving me two pieces of mail from being sent back, all within 30 seconds, and with a smile on his face. He even marked my mail "First Class" to ensure it'd get there on time. So, if any managers from this branch are reading, Clerk 03, as my recipt tells me, was fantastic and very helpful! :) read more

I scheduled a package pick up through this office for 11am- at 2:30pm when they had not showed or tried to contact me, i called USPS, they gave me the information for this specific post office and said that my request was handled through their office. I called the number and the individual who answered was of absolutely zero help. She said that the person I am trying to reach must be on break or something, because she works in the post office store and the calls are being fowarded. I asked to be transferred to someone who could help, she said that I called the right number but she cant help me. I asked again, can i be transferred to someone else, or a supervisor... The incredibly dense, unhelpful employee just said that she can't answer my question.. I explained that I have an international shipment and I need to make sure that it gets out today, and I need to speak to a supervisor because it is near the end of the day and I need to know what is going on. She wouldn't transfer me, so I asked for a different phone number where maybe someone could help.. and the number she provided didn't work. Ended up paying double to send it via fedex, but at least they showed up on time, and will get it there on time! read more

Woefully understaffed. When you factor in time wasted waiting in line, then paying more to get serviced faster at UPS makes a lot of sense.

My brother from the same mother introduced me to this great little secret. It's so small, one could pass it without even realizing it's a United States Post Office! I always go here when I need to send out a package or buy stamps now; the lines are always short (if at all) and the staff is uncharacteristically friendly for postal workers. If only the other post offices in my life (Irving Park 60618, Long Island City 11106, Astoria 11103, and Ravenswood 60625: I'm talking to you!) could be like this one! read more

This place is 100 times better than the post office at Lawrence and Western, but that is not saying much. I was pleasantly surprised when I first visited this location and I have been 4 times since and they have never let me down. Everyone has always been kind and courteous and the wait time is never ridiculous. (usually short lines). I HIGHLy recommend this location over any other location in the city. read more
