If you're like me then you dread going to the post office and tend to avoid it at all costs. Well, I had put off my shipping needs long enough and had no other choice than to actually go to a branch to send a bday gift. Well, I braced for the worst as I entered the Montrose branch at 5:30pm on a weekday. Imagine my surprise as I realized that I was the only customer in the store. The friendly gentleman at the desk was super helpful and had me out of there in no time. I worry that, if this location gets too many positive reviews, the postal powers that be will see that customers are having a good experience and swap out the staff with surly civil servants. In this surreal little space, the lines are usually short, and the staff are actually pleasant. The one guy (he has grey hair and his name begins with "L") may be the most affable, helpful postal worker I've ever encountered. He's even made cost-saving suggestions, like using media mail when appropriate. This USPS location is an oasis from all others! read more

This is my favorite post office. There is one lady who is very grumpy, but she is usually not up front. I have to go to the post office at least 3 times a week, and its a real pleasure to be helped by the lady who is usually at the counter. I've tried all the area post offices and this one is my go-to because of this one lady who always makes my day with her beautiful smile and fast, efficient service. I know the people who gave bad reviews must have been waited on by her less pleasant colleague... but that shouldn't spoil the whole experience, because the grumpy gal is usually in the back room. read more

Montrose has been my post office of choice since the 70's. It has always reminded me of a small town post office because of the size and also the recognition and special concern afforded by the staff. The longest line is shorter than the average line at the Ashland, Southport, or Kedzie post offices. Even during the holidays the staff generally maintains a good attitude. Staffed with one person, six customers (make that eight as I stand here waiting) in line...Strike. Friendly service...ahh yes. And a couple 15 minute flashing parking spots out front...makes it just OK. I'll likely stick to the other larger USPS centers nearby. read more

If you want to be treated like garbage, then this is the place for you! You'll be greeted with an attitude that implies that you have ruined their day by coming in and wanting to mail a package! After pointing out to the employee that she snapped at me when I asked her a question, she said, "Oh, if I snapped at you, you would definitely know it." Mr. Saddel (I hope that's how you spell it, it was loud and we were at a cta station) went out of his way today to help me out. I'm in Chicago for a short bit and had a package sent to me (something I forgot at home). Unfortunately, it was undeliverable so I went to the post office to pick it up. I was sent on a wild goose chase from office to office when I was finally told that they would check one more place and call me back. They never called me back. It was my last day and I gave up my package for dead. So, on way to the airport, to my next destination, I called the office just to see if I could just have it sent back to sender and I would deal with it when I got home. Mr. Saddel was the one who answered and after learning that I was leaving Chicago as we spoke he drove down and met me at the train station and made sure I got my package! I was so surprised that he would go out of his way like that. Made my day, (which had been really stressed for more reasons than one)! Give this man a raise! read more

Horrible and awful customer service. Refused to process a refund for a money back guaranteed delivery that was late. Rude and didn't listen and directed me to the 1-800 number, who then told me that refunds could only be processed in person. When I went to another USPS location, they were able to help me and process the refund. When the woman at the other station contacted the Finance Station supervisor, the supervisor yelled at her for no reason. She should be yelling at her staff for their incompetence. read more

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!! One of the WORST customer service experiences I have ever had at a Chicago USPS. I went there with my infant at around 6PM to get postage for a handful of envelopes with different amounts of pictures to mail to family members in the West Coast. I was told by the RUDE worker that I am not allowed to hand her envelopes without telling her how many pieces of paper are in each one. WHAT??? Does the location not have a scale for it's workers? I told her that I was not aware of this supposed rule and she told me in her sassy tone "well now you are and I'm telling you so you know". I told her to give back my mail and I reached out to get it and the worker said "no your not snatching this out f my hand", which I wasn't because I AM NOT RUDE like this USPS worker. I told her that I was going to go to another location and that she is rude. She got upset and told me "Fine! Go ahead!". As I was pushing my baby stroller to the door we continued to argue and I told her to do us both a favor and get another job, which shut her up. I also told her that I would tell her supervisor and she said with an attitude "go ahead then". Never again will I go to this location other than dropping mail off in the outside mail collectors. I wish there was a self-service machine in this location b/c that would save a lot of unnecessary headaches and frustrations when dealing with the rude postal workers in Chicago. read more

I have received the worst service from a post office at this location by an employee named Lanita ! I was rushing from work to make it on time to mail something and I got there at 6:25 . They close at 6:30 . When I told her I need to mail something international, she was just rolling her eyes and didn't say a word back . After couple minutes , she decided to talk and told me that it can't be done in 3 minutes , so she won't do it and showed me the door . I have never experienced such rude service in my entire life ! I was going to spend at least $50 with the mailing , but instead I got kicked out because it was closing time in a few minutes . Unacceptable! She should not be working there . I will write a letter to the main office about her behavior. read more

I am currently waiting in line to mail my package along with nine others who are also in line. A woman came in and simply asked the postal workers if she had to go online to fill out a change of address form, or if she could do it at this location. She asked twice and although the female worker did look up, she didn't even acknowledge the customer. Her passive aggressive behavior indicated that you must wait in line to have a question answered. The woman repeated her question again, and as she walked away, the postal worker tossed a packet at her. Is there a good reason for such rude behavior on the part of the postal worker? Is this how employees are trained, or are they treated so poorly at work that this is how they lash out? I have been in this location many times and have consistently been treated with disrespect by this particular employee. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because she is the only worker waiting on customers. read more

The staff changes so some are great, some not so hot -- Right now, they're great. The problem is that one of the women is going through menopause and the temperature is set for her comfort, not the other staff or customers and you need a down jacket in July while standing in line. read more

Since September 2011, I've shipped out approximately 185 books via media mail at this post office. Yes, the line can grow long, and I know I have really ticked off inpatient types (I mean impatient but inpatient works better) when I bring more than 10 packages for shipping. However, this USPS site is an oasis of pleasant peace and competence situated in the center of some of the worst post offices in the world (Uptown, Lake View, Albany Park, Lincoln Park and so on). The cost of media mail is reasonable and the workers are nice and helpful, really! I wonder what the secret is to all this professionalism at a USPS site? Could it be faith in God? read more

I used USPS to ship items to Bangalore (India), I had some gift items for my sister and her baby, by the time it reached her the contents of the box were broken and all liquid items were leaking, the perfume bottle was empty and the baby stuff no longer usable. I called USPS to file the insurance claim and they said have the recipient take the box and items to post office and file a complaint. Ridiculous! I should have asked them to video how badly the gifts were damaged just so I can run around to get the insurance claim. I will never use USPS to ship gift items. read more

In the past I have found helpful employees here but Monday I went in to mail a package to Soain which I do every month and generally cost about 100.00. I encountered the most unhappy unkind person I have ever met behind the counter around noon. And the post office wonders why they get such a bad wrap. I am usually upbeat, but I am sick of being treated like garbage in a place of business where I spend my hard earned money, is it that hard to be pleasant? Is it really that horrible having a job there? I have never written a negative review anywhere, but the woman who was there Monday around noon compelled me to do so. read more
