USPS - Post Offices Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Called the day before, asked if they will be open the next day. They said, "Yes." Went there the next day, the day the said ON THE PHONE THE DAY BEFORE that they would be open. Not open. Folks, give up on this post office!! It's a useless location. No matter when I go, no matter if I call ahead or not, it is NEVER OPEN. Why can't they just put a sign on the door? Or a message on the answering machine? Or use some form of 21st century technology to communicate??? ARGH. Don't go here!!!! read more

This place is very rarely open, even when it's supposed to be, and for no apparent reason since there's never any sign or any sort of notice as to why it's almost always closed. And maybe it's better that it stays closed, because if you're unlucky enough to get inside, you'll be greeted by a particular brand of rude, lazy and unhelpful customer service that the USPS seems to have a trademark on. I rarely ever review anything, except for 2 places: this post office and the other post office on Lawrence avenue, both of them suck equally. If you're looking to have your day ruined, feel free to stop inside. read more

Never open when it's supposed to be. Rude staff. Always lines waiting only to find on most days they open late, close early, or never open at all. Awful customer service. I've gone to this location twice in the last month and both times was treated horribly. The staffer (female), would scoff and roll her eyes whenever I had a question or needed help with something. After researching other reviews for this location, it was to no surprise I found similar experiences. I will no longer be going to this office and encourage others to as well. read more

Avoid this location if at all possible! For a place that's only open 11-4 you'd think they could open on time. Very regularly they don't. Customer service is horribly rude. Pricing is inconsistent. I showed up at 11:30 and the doors were locked so I called the downtown branch. While I was on the phone with them, they called this location and the clerk answered saying yes they were open. (Basically, they were there, just didn't want to have to work so figured they'd keep the doors locked). I assured the woman on the phone from the downtown branch that I was standing at the front door and they were not open. She called back and the clerk informed her that there was a busted water pipe and water was everywhere so they wouldn't be opening that day. (Wtf?) 2 hours later I walked by and guess what.. doors were open, no water, no maintenance crew. I took my package in and was charged twice what I was charged the week before to mail literally the EXACT same thing.. same contents, same packaging. When I questioned why I was told by the clerk " I'm not the post office, I just work here". I asked for a supervisor and was told "there isn't one". I asked for the clerks name, she said " I don't have one". So I said ok, I'll just go somewhere else, to which I was told "that doesn't hurt me, I'm still gonna get my pay check". Seriously.. save yourself the trouble.. go somewhere else! read more

Shhhhhh!!!!! I can't believe I'm about to share this with the my fellow Chicagoan, but that's just the kind of sweet gal I am. Finding this post office was a godsend. I used to have to trek down to the main branch in Lincoln Square on Lawrence and Campbell, yeah you know the one. The one that sucks your soul and then immediately feeds it to the dark overlord him/her-self, Satan. Anytime I needed to do anything at the post office, I would break out in a hive induced sweat at just the thought of it, and seriously want to call in sick from life. Back in 2009, I went into the aforementioned blood-pressure rising PO for some stamps for my wedding invites. After a long wait in line, they handed over the basic flag stamps. No, I'm looking for 60 cent, pretty wedding stamps. They shook their head, and asked if I wanted "these" boring ones (which I did not). The only good thing that ever came to be from them, they referred me to this Q branch where I encountered a life changing event: everyone that works at this branch is a sweetheart! The employees at this branch greet you with a smile, there's never a line more than 2 people (but I rarely, if ever encounter one), and they have cute stamps! Bonsai trees, pretty flowers, cute animals, you name it they have it. I recently went through a stationary shortage - who knew cute stamps would make me want to write more letters? Shipping packages is easy peasy too. They have most of the shipping supplies you'll need here as well. Hours: M-F 8:30-4:30. Sometimes they decide to take lunch and close, so keep this in mind if stopping over your lunch hour. Parking: Metered street, no lot. read more

CALL FIRST!! Just because it's 1:20 p.m. on a Tuesday (2/21/12) and they are supposed to be open doesn't mean they will be. I went there and another guy was there today at 1:20 p.m. and the door was locked and no note was left. I understand USPS budget cuts and there is only 1 person working there, and they need a lunch break, but why can't you just modify your hours to be closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m? The workers there are so rude. I call and they never pick up after calling 4 times they pick up and give me attitude, they don't even let me finish what I am saying and they hang up. Whenever I go they are always rude for no reason. You should hire new people who would actually want to work there. read more

Avoid this post office unless you absolutely must go. The man who is always at the desk is the rudest person I've ever met in my entire life- you know who you are. He belittles customers and gets mad if you ask any sort of question. He'll just throw your packages into the bin, fragile or not. However, the worst bit about him is how he treats people. Once I saw him push an old man out of the door when he walked in at 4pm, the usual closing time. The old man could barely walk and he didn't understand English very well. When the post office worker told him to leave because it was 4, the elderly man didn't leave because it was clear he didn't understand. The worker then proceeded to push him out and lock the door. This man really needs to be fired; his behavior is unacceptable and he treats people like trash. read more

The guy who clerked here before (first name Tony) was defensive about so many little things, which made it difficult to get a straight answer, and he was argumentative to boot. He's moved on to frustrate customers at another post office, and it has become a real pleasure to pick up my mail, the clerk on loan from the Ravenswood P.O. is knowledgeable and very nice, and brings a small-town local neighborhood feel to this tiny post office. Its hard to overstate how rude the woman working here is. You will need to gird yourself to go in there and be flailed by her particular brand of seething ambivalence. She is enormously unpleasant. Like it's her JOB. I drove home muttering to myself, "don't let her ruin your day don't let her ruin your day don't let her...." then I started looking for a puppy to pet or a baby to squeeze or SOMETHING to balance out the enormous weight of her toxic hostility. Gotta say, the man who works there left me with a similar feeling, but I assumed it was a one time occurance. Now that I've interacted with her, I think this place is cursed. I was trapped in here with the US postal worker, Mr. Hamilton, at Christmastime. The computer had gone down halfway through my transaction (so I couldn't leave without sending the entire postal service into some sort of planetary tailspin). Because it seemed completely stuck Mr. Hamilton shooed all the other customers behind me out and told them to go to the other post office on Lawrence in Lincoln Square. Not happy campers. The job of a counter person with crappy software is not an easy one. It was near enough to closing time that he locked the door so no new customers would come in. Still they banged on the door and yelled through the glass 'But it's REALLY IMPORTANT'. He couldn't help them out though if he didn't have a system that worked. When I didn't give him a hard time about things he had no control over he was very nice to me. After about 20 minutes (or what seemed like that) we were all sorted out. One star off for crappy USPS software and crazy short hours. read more

In general, I'm an internet transaction type of gal, so, was pleasantly surprised when I had to actually go to the post office to ship a package, registered international priority mail, to China, today. My printer was down - WAH! Had never done international shipping before, thru USPS, and needed assistance. Fortunately, the counter associate was friendly, patient, most helpful, and had a lively personality.. Wish I had caught her name. Her craggypants BOSS, on the other hand, not so much.. He kept interrupting our transaction and acted as though he REALLY needed a few more hours of sleep - WTF! Anywhoo, got the transaction done without any major, typical crappy attitude from a US postal employee, in Chicago - YAY! Will be happy to do business there again. :D read more

I was going to update my review for awhile and am just getting to it. I started going here despite my one bad experience, since it's so close and convenient to where I live. The employees have been polite and helpful, which is why I was going to give them 4 stars, despite the limited hours this particular business is open, and not on Saturday at all. They were great until today. I found out stamps were 49 cents, and casually mentioned that I thought 49 cents was too much for sending a letter. A rude man behind the counter said "Wow, you people don't appreciate anything. That's not much at all. You people don't appreciate anything!!" And then kept arguing with me, like a rude idiot. Well, excuse me, Mr. well paid postal worker. You are lucky to simply have a job, unlike a lot of people in this economy. What a poor, ignorant way to treat customers. read more

This place is very convenient even if they have short working hours. The staff here is very nice, especially a lady name Brenda! She is always there and answer all your questions and don't mind helping you because I have had bad experience with usps workers before like when they try to rush you and just bad attitude but not here. Will continue to come here since I stay around the corner. read more
