For smaller mailings, I'm often obliged to use USPS and this location is preferable because it's less crowded and has a parking lot. My mailings have increased post- COVID19, particularly for elderly loved ones and framily first responders. I shop to keep the seasoned citizens "indoors" and to save those who are not working from home or sheltering in place time when they're off. The post office started off with clear tarps hanging from the work stations to protect workers and customer but have graduated to this covering. I'm so appreciative of their work and the experience overall. I deducted a star because the hours are rather limited given its volume and 50% of the time on weekends, there's at least one employee who calls in which results in longer lines.

I also was hesitant to write a review, but I thought my explanations might be helpful for some. I went to this branch to apply for a passport on a Saturday morning. Yes, the website had the "thorough" instructions on what documents, both original and photocopied, they needed. Both hubby and I still felt unclear, mainly on the diction. Don't get me wrong. The staff was patient even though hubby expressed his frustration. They were cool and no one took it personally. Hence I could only render three (3) stars because I did successfully submit my passport application...that morning. Ok, now here's the gist. Are ya'll ready? 1) Why should you make an appointment online? It guarantees your queue, versus those who don't make one. When I was there, the staff called out the customers with appointments first. Without an appointment, you had to take chances and lots of waiting might be involved. Making an appointment online was pretty easy. Lots of reminders were sent to my text and e-mail. 2) what documents do you need for applying for a passport? - the state ID or a driver's license (you have to show the staff who processes the application) - photocopied ID (both front and back) - the "original copy" of proof of U.S. citizenship. This WILL BE mailed with your application. - the photocopied version of proof of U.S. citizenship - Of course, the application (no need to fill out "section 2") 3) what was our frustration? Hubby and I read the instructions more than three (3) times. We didn't know the my original naturalization certificate needed to be submitted. That was a piece of very important document and we were not comfortable with that. We ended up driving to the nearby Fedex and made some photocopies, just in case. Do I trust the government agency? Not really, but s*it got to be done through USPS. I had no choice. 4) On the top first page of instruction sheets, it stated "proof of U.S. citizenship: Evidence of U.S. citizenship AND a photocopy of the front (and back, if there is printed information) must be submitted with your application. Ok, I got it and it did imply the original must be given at the time of application. It definitely could be rephrased in a much more clear manner. 5) the fee for the passport alone is $110 (as of 06/30/2018). If you also need a passport card, it will be $140. No credit or debit cards can be accepted. Fortunately, I had a couple of old personal checks and paid with a check. 6) processing fee for the passport is $35. This can be paid with a credit or debit card. 7) the facility here takes passport photos, which is an additional $15. This fee can also be paid with either a credit or debit card. I also noticed that many walk-ins for passport application came in after 11am. The best strategy is to get there early to avoid this whole waiting game. I hope my passport shows up at my house without any hiccup, yet we will see...

They have worked effectively & efficiently to try & process the customers waiting. I have never seen them lose their cool & are always polite even under what seems like an overwhelming influx of customers. After a few loops through the area, I eventually found a parking spot along N Kenilworth Ave right outside of the entrance. During my loops, I was astonished to see the beauty of downtown Oak Park which I have never seen before. I will have to visit the area one of these days to go food hopping, or maybe even pick out a run route that would take me through it on foot. Now as for parking, it is 1-hour parking, 9 AM - 5 PM Monday - Saturday. Many of the visitors I see try to secure those parking spots along N Kenilworth Ave because you will have to pay if you choose to park along Lake St, which is pay by the plate. An adorable, classy looking building is this post office not only on the outside, but inside as well. I must say that this post office was my life saver due to its closing time on the weekend which will surely result in future visits for me. During my visit, there was absolutely no line of customers inside which resulted in an in-and-out visit (no pun intended), tehehe. As someone who visits post office locations regularly whether it be for Poshmark or eBay shipments, the clerk presented a friendly vibe during our brief encounter at the counter. I was on my way in minutes after she weighed and scanned my package, as well as presented me with mailing stamps for my postcards. I am terrible at doing the surveys on the receipts pertaining to my visits at post offices, but rest assured I always share a review based on my experiences. Expect to wait in line while they finish waiting a video on their phone or finish writing a text. Expect to wait in line and listen to them bicker. Except flat affects and side eyes. Expect to feel like you're pestering them while they are assisting you. Oh..and expect the self-service kiosk to be non-functioning. However, it has its share of problems. Parking isn't one of them, except maybe around Christmas time or on a Saturday morning. The lobby has the PO boxes and a package mailing system. Pretty much for everything else, you have to wait inside. Buying stamps is particularly annoying here, since they could boost efficiency by putting in a machine that dispenses rolls of stamps like the Des Plaines office on Oakton. But no, you wait in line for something that simple. Meanwhile, the people manning the counter take random breaks regardless of the line. You could have a line all the way to the door with the counter help of 3 people going down to 2. There was a redeeming quality while I waited during my latest visit. The music playing inside was none other than Yes' classic 90125 album in its entirety. I heard 3 songs in sequential order before my turn came up. At least someone's got good taste, so it's not a complete waste of my time. For area residents, I recommend sticking to the more efficient Des Plaines or the Harwood Heights 60656 branches for your postal needs.

Yay…read more I was driving by and thought I should stop and submit a change of address form I'd been driving around with for weeks whilst I was thinking about it. I'd started filling it out when I got it, but you had to drop it off in person with ID so I decided I'd come back since I was in a hurry at that time. When I came to turn it in on this day, the woman said I did it wrong because the address of when I wanted the mail to be rerouted (around the date I moved) didn't match the date I'd signed the document (which I signed just before entering). Nowhere on the form do I see anything about it requiring the dates to match--in fact, that makes very little sense, since someone might submit a change of address two or three weeks before they actually want the change to take effect since it can take that long for the mail to be diverted. So she made me get out of line to complete another form, which wasn't particularly easy whilst holding a one year old and completing it one-handed. On top of that, why is it just a given that the post office sucks? I mean, I promise that if visiting the USPS wasn't worse than getting your teeth extracted that they wouldn't be bleeding money the way they are. I avoid the post office like I avoid COVID. I thought that the post office was one of the federal government's handful of PBOs (performance based organization) but there's no way given how customer service seems to be of the lowest concern to them. The post office building is nice and fancy, and the parking lot is confusing (a lot of it is one way, which I wouldn't expect with a larger parking lot like this). But like most post offices, just gird your loins upon entering.
