No time to reheat as guests were already waiting for 2 hours. Had to serve appetizer that was soggy. They didn't mention that their naan would be grocery store bought naan. I could have done that. They skimped out on the amount of BBQ they promised. We dealt with Zabar and every time we called no one was allowed to do anything except him. When we called him, he was too busy to talk to us. So happy to find a good local Indian and Pakistani restaurant! Visited for the first time and have to say was very impressed by the food and the quantity that they give. There were 3 of us and we ordered the BBQ platter for 4 which was a very good amount of food. We ended up taking leftovers home. The meats in the dishes were tender and well seasoned. It came with chicken tikka, bihari kebobs, tandoori chicken and seekh kebobs served on top of biryani rice. We were all very satisfied and happy with the service as well. Food is amazing, but I know they're extremely slow and utterly incompetent so I ordered over a half hour before getting there. Once there, don't expect any kind of customer service. You won't be greeted, no one will smile at you, and all staff without exception look like they're in pain. It's like you're imposing on them and they don't want you to be there. A looooong while later I was asked for my order number, but I soon as I gave it to him he went off doing something else! Then he walked in. Then he came out again. Then he dabbled on the screen. He then asked me again for my order number, as I was telling him he went off to do something else again. So I waited, and waited, and waited.... Then I just left without my order! There was no apology, no concern that a customer was lost... nothing...... In short, if you don't mind plain rudeness and just a terrible experience, then by all means the food is good. This review is based on several visits. The food has been consistently great and priced well. Removed stars for the cleanliness and bad attitude of the staff. Having staff that is incompetent only devalues your food further. Get staff that speak English, knows your product and greets customers well. On the signage outside; you have a sign of a drink called Falooda but I asked the waitress and she gave me a dirty look. I told her it's on your A-frame outside and she was confused further. My husband and I completed a large transaction with a local Pickering business. To celebrate this, the local business recommended Usmania Grill. They phoned the restaurant to let us know we were coming and gave them our names. They told us to keep the receipt for reimbursement from them later. First class service from a Pickering business :) But Usmania Grill gave the worst "service" I have experienced in memory. The waitress sauntered over to our table and asked to take our order but before we could even begin to give it she turned her back on us and went to another table. Then she returned to the counter and took orders from walk-ins and phone-ins. After 10 minutes I went to the counter to place the order but she said she was busy. She then spent considerable time chatting with her co-workers, who did nothing productive, and chatting on the phone. Finally another person took our order. We mentioned that we had been referred to Usmania by a local business - she just shrugged her shoulders, couldn't care less, had no idea what we were talking about. We waited 20 minutes for the food to come. During this time, I had to get our water myself. The first server plonked the plates on the table without making eye contact, smiling or uttering a word. In order to eat, I had to find the cutlery and serviettes. No one approached us the entire time we were eating. Even though the food was really good, our celebratory mood was destroyed. Local businesses need to be very cautious about referring their customers to Usmania Grill. read more

We visited today from out of town and ordered a BBQ platter for 4 people. Good tasting food and absolutely disgusting service! Wait until you hear this: We pre-paid and sat down and waited half an hour for our food to be served. Once our food was ready the server came to our table and we were informed to our surprise that we would not be served unless we paid an additional fee or took our order to go. (??) The server explained that the price of our combo...and ONLY our combo...was increased 30 percent more for dine in! This price increase was not on the menu we were provided, nor was it charged at the time of our order. We had already paid the price asked on the menu. Still they demanded this ridiculous price increase or we had to take our bag of food and go. The server could not explain why this additional fee was required for our meal but not for any other meal on the menu. He said the owner made the decision but did not know why. We chose to leave after explaining to the server that we were insulted and upset by this treatment and would never return. I have never in almost 50 years heard of such a thing. We took our food and left and found a place to park and discovered we had been short ordered a portion. We only had food for 3 people! We did not get what we paid for according to our receipt. We also recieved no plates, forks, spoons, napkins. Just a pile of food wrapped in a foil tray. Difficult to serve everyone sitting in a car in a parking lot. Not at all convenient for travelers. I find this shameful to treat customers this way...especially travellers without any options. Shorting our order was an additional insult. We went to the restaurant to place a take out order. There was just one person taking order, and he the phones ringing around his ears. There was a line up of people and the guy would pick up phone while he was in the middle of taking your order. He gave priority to the phone orders and did seem to bother with those in the line. It took nearly 45 mins for our order. Then there was mix up and I was given my order which did not seem correct. When I mentioned it to the guy at the counter he insisted that the order was correct. After insisting that I did not have my complete order, they found more bags with food that belonged to my order. They need to get their act together otherwise risk losing customers! read more

Went on a Thursday evening to get the daily special -I purchased lamb biryani.$5.99 plus hst first of all they were out of raita. secondly the biryani rice looked like old rice gathered from three to four days. lamb was chewy like leather cannot swallow worst experience ever. I dined here for a birthday. A group of 8, size of the restaurant is medium & we were seated in the middle of the dining space. 1st impressions were optimistic but by end of the night I knew I wouldn't be returning. Food quality was alright, not the worst or the best I've had. What essentially turned my experience down was service & cleanliness. There weren't enough plates/glasses/cutlery until we asked - it wasn't too busy either. Had to ask for knives & my knife was dirty, I could tell someone probably wiped it because I could see small old food residue in the dry wipe marks. This turned me off immediately but still I remained hopeful that everything else would go well. Remainder of the night, my polite uncle who took charge dealing with the waiters, had to get up & even help himself to things that should've been brought over by waiters. I understand them forgetting once/twice but this was the case most of the time, the waiters seemed confused when basic things were requested - maybe they were new staff, I'll give them that but shouldn't be happening with all staff. The staff didn't seem friendly & barely smiled. Sauce bottles were dirty around the opening, with either dried/fresh sauce still on the sides. Near the end of the night, my cousin went to use the single men's washroom (2 washrooms, single toilets/sinks), he came back saying he couldn't use it as someone destroyed the toilet with #2. Usmania grill has a great enviornment, great food, and most important of all great service.The food there is of south Asian cuisine and is by far the best in Ontario. My family and I went their and we ordered the chicken biryani as it was there specialty. When the food came out the presentation was great, so was the smell of all the spices. The food at Usmania Grill is delicious especially their Kebabs. Best in Pickering by far, only reason I wouldn't give them five stars is because their greatest downfall is management. Employees here are very nice however their management is horrible with food running out frequently at early hours, last minute cancellations and delays in serving. Absolute terrible service! Went there with a friend to break our fast (since it is Ramadan). My friend got there almost an hour before it is time, she saved us a table. The restaurant was pretty empty. I got there 20 minutes later. After sitting for 15 minutes someone came to take our order, while he's taking it, this waitress comes to tell us our table is reserved. (By then the whole restaurant was packed) we told her my friend had been there for about 40 minutes then and she just kept saying sorry it's reserved you have to go.
