We go here very often and it's one of the best places for halwa puri. Love the service and the food. I'd highly recommend this place!

I would give zero or negative stars if I could! So we went as a group of 7 for brunch. We ordered a pretty large spread. From the time we were seated to while we were ordering, eating .. we were continuously rushed to "eat and go"! As we were about 80% done with food, we decided to order chai.. which is normally what most people will do towards the end of a heavy meal.. to our surprise we were told the chai can only be ordered as "take out" as we were ending our meal?! When we said we were still eating the server said ok .. then came back and told us that the chai was "done do the day"!! This, with 3 tables around us having chai on their tables! Also, it's actually insulting your customer's intelligence when u expect them to believe that chai is "done for the day" in the middle of the brunch time?! We said we can wait if a new batch is brewing but we're told it's done for the day?! We went to cash to pay and leave.. but then we overheard the person at cash taking and taking order on the phone that included chai?) when asked they said they are making more .. but we were told otherwise!! So clearly they just wanted us out and the table freed! Mind u no time limit is mentioned or advertised for a seating and there's no reservation either so we did have to wait 25-30 mins for our table as well!! So overall a very nasty service experience at this place.. the food was ok but over salted and there is no alloo Bhaji served with their set halwa puri meal.. definitely not worth it if you want to have pleasant weekend brunch experience.. we are never going back for sure!! Much better options available in Scarborough so please don't waste ur hard earned $$ here!! read more

We arrived here and were VERY surprised to hear that they were no longer serving tap water. You cannot bring your own, and if you would like a bottle of nestle water is $2 each for 500 ml. As you can see I was not pleased to hear this. Each naan was $3.99, it was a little crispy. The goat curry we ordered was flavourful, and so we're the chicken and paneer. First time having halwa puri and it was delicious. Ordered 7 portions and everything was combined to go. I liked mixing the haleem and chana. I can probably do without the halwa but it's a nice sweet touch to the meal. read more

This is by far one of the best places to enjoy authentic Halwa Puri, Lahori Channa, best Nihari and Haleem. They have some of the best Paya and their Naan recipe is top notch. Pretty good spot for kheer-puri breakfast. A traditional breakfast served with Chana, puri, and halwa, it's quite delicious. Came on a weekend morning and ordered takeout. It took a good 20 min to prepare, but I drove around the area to pick up some samosas as well (lots of good things in the area). The food was fresh and hot even when I got back home to eat it. My family really enjoyed the taste. The Chana was a bit spicy, but it balanced with the sweetness of the halwa. The puri was very large and tasted great. With the exception of it being oily, I enjoyed the food. The portion sizes seem small but the food is actually quite substantial and heavy, so portion sizes are adequate. 4-5 portions of halwa puri fed 8 people. The price point was pretty good too, about $45 in total. I'll definitely be back for halwa puri in the future. read more

Used to visit and always promote the place because of myself belonging to Pakistan. But lately started to notice that the success started to have negative impact on the management. They have started to use tricks to SWINDLE THE CUSTOMERS. The rates are not properly explained on the web. Called for breakfast price and was told $9.49 without explanation of whether dine in or take out. I dined in and at the time was charged $12.99 . When asked to explain I was told it's dine in. Than on top of that 10% service charge and than HST. If the price is already $3.5 more for dine in than what's the logic of 10% service charge? Than quality of food has declined. PURRI has become small. Potatoes being part of breakfast has disappeared. Overall it's a bad experience. Won't consider this place anymore. New options have cropped up all over the town. read more

I don't recommend coming here but if you do, bring your own water as it's not free and the food is spicy. Owner charges $2 for a water bottle. Even more ridiculous considering that they set glasses on the table beforehand like the waiter was going to bring a water jug. My mom spoke to the owner and the excuse he made was something like "people complained about waiters touching the jug without gloves so now I charge for water" like c'mon, at least be honest with your customers. There's so many halal/Pakistani/Indian restaurants around you, why aren't they suffering from the same issue and using the same solution as you? Update : I went to Nirala today. I love the food no doubt but I realize today it's so expensive. I had three naan with channa. I paid 30 bucks I feel like it's so expensive. 3 naan and chana should not be 30 bucks. Disappointed, based on this I am moving my 4 star review to a 2 star. I always give my reviews with three things in mind..... food, service and environment. Food first we went for breakfast had puri halwa and naan with nihari. Restaurant is little on spicy side. Food is not bad at all. I really like the naan better then puri halwa but over all good food. Service was really good as well. Quick, respectful good people working there had no issues at all. Excellent meal. We were the only ones in the restaurant as it was around 3:45pm and still the food was freshly cooked. We had the lamb biryani, Karachi chicken (boneless), garlic naan and, Dahl Chana. Perfectly spiced. This was quite a big meal considering we were only two persons. Wonderful! Definitely will return. Aside from my traditional western breakfast, our family decided to try Indian/ Pakistani. Nirala has been here for some time, though the interior is basic, they can surely cook up a storm whether it be dine-in, take out, or sweets! You can sometimes find yourself waiting in line especially on weekends during early to late breakfast hours. Their traditional breakfast served on a stainless steel food tray, called Thali. We had their homemade halwa, channa (chick pea), pickles, yogurt all served with a puri (small roti). On the side we also ordered their Nihari gravy curry which was also served with fresh naans that were delicious. Probably one of the best nihari's I've ever had. Overall the place isn't fancy but if you're looking for good Indian / Pakistani food do try this place! read more

On my two day stay in Toronto, we came to Nirala for halwa poori breakfast, for a taste of Lahore. And we got it. It's not easy to please me, specially if you say you will be giving me a taste of Lahore. Place was recommended by another Pakistani restaurant owner. I must say, we weren't disappointed. The place was super crowded, however we got lucky and got a table in two mins. We ordered Paya, halwa poori, mango lassi, sweet lassi, plain naan and till naan. Halwa poori was on point, reminded me of halwa and channay I used to get at my Nano's place in androon Lahore. Naan was the best naan I have had in decades. Perfect softness and equally good after it was cold. Till naan was quiet close to kulcha. Very good. Sweet lassi was perfect ... the only thing missing was the "jhaag" from fresh lassi in Lahore. Mango lassi was very good too. I liked the paya, the curry was too runny, never the less tasted good. I get really good nihari near home so I didn't try it, but from the looks of what I saw on other people's table it seemed pretty good. The only thing that was disappointing was they were out of chai and were not making any more. But they gave us hot water and we used our own tea bags.., all in all it was a great experience. read more

Surprising for a restaurant that did not open for dining has very small portions for the price. If a restaurant is focused only on takeout then they should also provide value for menu. A chicken Karahi had just few pieces of high bone meat for $12.50 +taxes. This definitely takes the restaurant out of our future dining possibilities. The halwa puri with channa is really good. Kinda like of Shaheen. And yes, these two places only serve the authentic karachi style 'lahori' cholay for breakfast. The nihari was a little watererd down but full of flavour. The fresh naans was the icing on the cake. Their 'chai' needs to be overhauled. I have had better tea at gas stations. I highly recommend the halwa puri channa breakfast. But please, take home-brewed chai in a thermos to enjoy the meal. read more

Went for their breakfast special at around 11am.the place was packed and people are lined up to get in. For was good but not anything superb that would create a line that big. Made me think and i centre to the conclusion that the location of this place is optimal, with easy parking and a name "nirala", that is used so often and every thitd desi restaurant is named nirala. The food here takes SO long to come out its extremely aggravating even though they microwave everything, somethings will come cold in the center, hot around the edges while something else would be piping hot. Also the food is extremely spicy (coming from someone that loves spicy food) and it's fine if they want to offer such a level of heat but there should be an option not to have it so overly fire burning spicy. Utter waste of money. Don't just don't order food from here and I mean it. We do eat from Tandoori Time, Karachi kitchen, Patna Kabab house, and Shaheen Tikka and Kabab house quite frequently and we know what NORMAL food should taste like. Every restaurant in this age and time offer three levels of spiciness MILD, MEDIUM, & HOT; where as, this place offers only one kind. HOT like hell. My husband and I both got sick with sore throat from the spiciness and piles upon piles of visible traces of green chilli which you can't sperate from ur food. Horrible. For ur info, we ordered chicken seekh kabab, chicken biryani, and keep a Naan. Apart from the food being too spicy, they literally had stuffed one tea spoon of ground meat in their naan to charge you $4.50 . Not worth your money. Waited for 15 minutes at table. it was Saturday night had customers at two tables and all three waiters were busy doing nothing, standing in a corner chit chatting. We had iftar buffet... line up was so long we didnt get any appetizers and they didnt even fill it up, not just that, they only had biriyani, chicken curry, halim, chana, nihari and tandoori chicken for the main course but it was mentioned in the website they suppose to serve butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, paya, gulab jamun, kheer, rasgulla but its a lie, for desert they only served pre packed rasmalai. They shouldnt be cheatinf with people during the month of ramadan.
