    I WAS ROBBED AND US STORAGE HAS NOT GIVEN ME ANY CLARITY ON HOW THEY WILL HANDLE THIS SITUATION. DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY OR COMPANY EVER. Buckle in Yelp reviewers because this is a horrible ride that I wish I could get off of. I will be stating facts as facts and speculation as speculation until we get full clarity from the Austin Police Department whom is already invested in this case. At that point I will update my review. I studied abroad in France last summer and needed to store all my apartment things in Austin since my parents house was in Houston. My dad is the one who chose US Storage according to good reviews as I was abroad. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. I was not aware of the blatant LACK OF SECURITY. There are NO SECURITY CAMERAS INSIDE and the footage of the exterior security cameras only hold up to 60 days prior locally (confirmed by the manager). The area is gated but there is a GIANT HOLE UNDER THE FENCE that anyone can sneak in under (photo included). Once inside the unit it is laughably easy to walk into the storage unit interior without a code because THE DOORS DO NOT SHUT FULLY (photos included). Here's where it gets crazy. An agent of the Austin Police Department speculated the criminal was a squatter since there were no signs of forced entry, an unknown pillow on my mattress and a cigarette butt on the floor which have since been sent off for DNA testing. There are GAPS IN THE CEILING OF THE UNITS (photo included) that someone used to crawl into my unit and potentially OCCUPIED MY UNIT WITH THE COMPANY COMPLETELY UNAWARE WHILE IM TRUSTING AND PAYING THEM TO PROTECT MY BELONGINGS. We discovered this 72 hours ago. I initially thought it was a burglary since at least ALL MY JEWELRY, MY TV AND MY UNDERWEAR WAS STOLEN and countless other meticulously packed boxes were ripped open and ransacked. One of the boxes that was ransacked and left exposed held my WORK DOCUMENTS, APARTMENT LEASES AND SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER PUTTING ME AT RISK FOR IDENTITY THEFT. Not to mention we are in a GLOBAL PANDEMIC and all my items have now been exposed to a cesspool of diseases. We have had to contact COVID specialists about how to clean the unit and they suggested for us to, per their expertise, "look out for needles" which is another potential risk we now face. We contacted the manager Nachelle of the property, who actually lives on property, and she did everything she could in her power which included putting in a request to get the entire security footage of the last year, which is the time frame that I was robbed and violated. We still do not know if the footage was sent over. We emailed the company and called their corporate headquarters. We were sent to voicemail every time and we left two voicemails already. The manager has confirmed that corporate has received our voicemails but STILL HAS NOT CONTACTED US except for an automated reply to a Yelp review suggesting to email the company which we had already done. Since this is the only way to get a response I expect to hear back from the company with full disclosure on how they are handling the situation and how they will take responsibility for their lack of security and for the last 72 hours of heartbreak I suffered over the invaluable items that can never be replaced including my sense of personal security.

    I'm guessing it's U-Haul policy (or maybe just this location's) that when both parties make a…read moremistake, to take advantage of their customers as much as they can. U-Haul likely made a mistake on marking their fuel gauge and I, two hours behind schedule, signed off on it. Items were loaded on-site from a pod and driven ten miles, half-filling a 15' box truck. A singular tool chest was then driven six miles one way and six miles back to the depot. A total of 22 miles. I had estimated based on load and distance to refill around 2 gallons of fuel and returned it slightly past closing. Checked the receipt the next day and was billed an additional 5 gallons of fuel (~$25) claiming it didn't match what was signed off. That's ~7 gallons of fuel for 22 miles. It doesn't take much brain power to realize that a half-filled 15' box truck does not drive THREE MILES TO THE GALLON. The only figure I can think of that gets anywhere near this number is a Bugatti going at over 250 mi/hr. If whoever I spoke to the on the phone was willing to work with me and ended up billing me for an additional gallon or two, I would find that an acceptable resolution. The fact that a representative was unwilling to relent on the impossibility of a box truck getting 3 MPG speaks a lot about their customer service skills or lack thereof.

    STAY AWAY! READ THIS! Massive fire burned down most of the units in the middle of the complex and…read moremanagement never emailed or called me to inform me what happened. Luckily my unit wasn't damaged but I was shocked that nobody informed me of what happened. Showed up today to access my unit and noticed my lock had been cut off and replaced with a red lock that said see manager. Nobody is ever working at the office anymore so I called their listed number with no answer so I left a voicemail wondering what happened to my unit that is fully paid and why again I WAS NOT NOTIFIED about whatever is going on with my unit! It appears that it was broken into because there are many units near me that have the same red lock on them and evidence of cut pad locks on the ground. Spoke to a fellow renter in the complex and he said there have been people living in some of the units that have been trying to break into other units that he has had to run off before. There are cameras in the complex and supposed to have in-person security but he said it was so bad he installed his own cameras too. I've been trying to reach management for days and they will not answer or return my calls so I have no choice but to get a lawyer and press charges. STAY AWAY! UPDATE 4/21/20: Spoke to employee of management company that was hired by the owners last year and he told me that there were over 30 units broken into and they are going the video surveillance but the quality of the cameras the owners use is "subpar". Also found out that the on site security only comes by 4 times a night which consists of the security guard doing a quick drive through of the tiny facility (should take 1-2 mins) and then security leaves. Yet, their website says they have on-site security there "almost around the clock". A complete lie. Owners have known about the homeless staying in empty/broken units for years and have been warned about the subpar quality of their cameras for a long time but refuse to put any money into needed repairs or security issues. Hello Lawsuit!

He talks to much but he is always around. -Yes there are bands that rent here and play at night. Nothing like working on stuff with free live (pretty good) music -They take cash, 24 hour access -lots of cameras, good security for such a shady place -No limits. do what you want in your unit. Bottom line: This place is shady as hell. But it has a bathroom, free pallets, awesome customer service, and complete and total privacy, I do what I want when I want, and this is very important to me. I work on vehicles and these guys were cool with it.
