My family and I have been going to the U.S. Smog Check in Chino for many years, and for all the past years, the smog checks were simple affairs - until this year. Due to cold weather and less driving, the family car's battery was struggling and a disconnect removed the existing emission monitor data the day of the smog check (the car initially failed to start up). This led to a failed smog check due to the catalytic monitor showing incomplete, which I was informed by the U.S. Smog Check staff. I was given a credit to retest (but can bring the car back for monitor pre-check without using that credit). After learning about the car's drive cycle, how emission monitors work, and the types of driving to provide the monitor with more data, I bought a car scanner to keep an eye on the emission monitors in real time. After about 200 miles of driving, the monitor finally completed its data gathering to show "OK," and I brought the car back to the smog station to use the credit. Throughout the ordeal, the staff at the U.S. Smog Check were very helpful (as did several other shops in the area that provided me with advice), and I was very happy with the shop's flexibility and re-test credit system. read more

I had an initial issue with my car not being ready to test and they were really kind about next steps and retests, and at the retest I had an issue with my OBD port and they were again so kind and patient with the situation. Took my car for a smog test on Christmas Eve Day and I must say, I was in and out. It was a perfect time to bring my car when majority of people busy getting ready for the evening festivities. The technician was very nice and came to me to get the info and mileage on my car and before you know it, 20 mins or so, my car was ready. This place is super busy on regular days which only tells a person that their service is excellent. Our family takes all of our vehicles here for smog but this was actually the first time I've ever given a review. The facility is clean, the waiting area is clean and there is a tv for you to watch and a coffee station for their customers. The receptionist is very nice and friendly. I definitely recommend getting your smog service done here. read more

I brought my car here because it was the only shop open after 5pm in the area. I found out my car didn't pass smog so I asked the front desk girl if I could ask the technician to show me what was wrong. She said sure but you might have to get dirty to see what's wrong. She said it in a way to try to discourage me from asking questions. It didn't bother me to go out and have the tech show me. As I walked out the technician who was driving my car drove a bit too fast and then hit the brakes. Put my car into park and the hit my gas to rev up the engine before shutting off the engine. Seemed pretty unnecessary but I didn't say anything. One of the technicians was kind enough to try to explain what was wrong. While I was trying to understand and ask more questions the other tech who revd up my motor was getting visibly upset (turning red) and the front desk girl was basically telling me to pay and leave. She said we are closed now you need to pay and leave. I looked around and there was 3 other families waiting to get their cars smogged. Should they also just leave because the shop is closed? When I got my car fixed, the shop that inspected my car and gave me my pass made a couple comments about how smog shops like to fail people when they can because it helps keep the DOT from looking into their business. I mentioned to the smog tech that I overheard them fail 2 other people while I was there as well. Both times when the customers asked for an explanation the front desk girl didn't give a thorough response and instead pointed to a sign that had a number for the state referee. I've owned some older vehicles that didn't pass smog for one reason or another. But in the past the technicians would explain what I needed to get fixed and in all cases (maybe I've been blessed) did not fail me but rather gave me a chance to fix it. It's apparent this shop is in the business of just pushing out as many vehicles as possible and is perfectly ok with shoving people out their doors as long as they get their $$$. With so many other options in the area, I know not to return here. It is very hard to find trustworthy mechanics and businesses that have communication/people skills. I struck out here and had a horrible experience where the business didn't respect my vehicle or me. I hope others yelpers can learn from my experience and go to a business that will treat them like human beings and not just an invoice. read more
