I showed up about 5:45pm in my 2002 Xterra so I could check out the business hours. I figured they were open until 5pm but wanted to verify and grab the number. While I was taking the info down, Quinn, got out of his truck and opened up for me. I told him it was ok and I could come back during regular business hours, but he insisted and said "you're already here." I was in awe. Excellent and superb service. So generous and accommodating. Friendly guy. Affordable pricing. He was already in his truck to go home, but he chose to help a customer instead. These qualities are so hard to find nowadays so I sincerely appreciate that he took the time when he didn't have to. I HIGHLY recommend this place. I took my newly purchased new to me of course 97 Chevy c1500 today and Jose was the technician for the day. I asked if he could smog my truck and he proceeded with inspections, took him about 25 min finally he came back with the verdict that it did not pass, he continued with suggestions on what could be the problem he also mentioned he new it wasn't going to pass due to the rich smell of the exhaust. My problem is if he new it wasn't going to pass from the get go why did he continue with the inspection and not waste my time and money. He charged me $55 and said I would get a discount and pay $44 next time to re test. I understand business need to make money but cmon! next time it would be nice if you would be honest from the very beginning but I guess those days are gone. read more

I went to this location only because it was nearby and yelp showed a coupon. Upon arrival I was concerned. Red flag #1: The service bay had a boat and camper trailer parked in it. As the tech exited it, he was clearly living inside. Red flag #2: He refused to honor the coupon, I grumbled and figured, well it is a year old. My car didn't pass, all he said was my car was "messed up". I explained I recently changed the battery and he just took my $ 50 +. Feeling swindled, I asked about a retest in which he was vague about if that would be free or not. The only reason I'm giving him 3 stars is because the issue was honestly my fault for changing the battery prior to the test. It would have been nice if he offered a discount/better explanation upon the cars failure due to its computer not being ready. In that case I would have happily returned. I brought my car here for a smog check so I could pay for the DMV renewal. I printed a $40 coupon found online and stopped in around 2:30pm. The place is small and the waiting room has 4 seats and lots of old catalogs. There is a TV but it wasn't on. These are all minor points since the wait is really minimal: 20-25 minutes tops for me. And if there is a longer wait, you're told in advance. I passed the time by chatting with this guy (owner?) about all the maps he has on the wall: very outdoorsy hiking kinda thing. Ask about Machu Picchu. Sure there's a $2 surcharge for use of credit/debit cards but I figure this is a fee that will support small businesses. We're charged all the time by big banks and credit card companies for using our cards but never complain about that? And Smogzome is doing honest business anyway. Bring cash or stop at an ATM if you want to bypass this $2 charge. Friendly people and fast service. Can't complain. read more

My experience matched his; friendly and prompt service, in and out in 20 mins with no appointment, $40 for the whole deal (29.75 for test, 8.25 for certificate and 2 for DMV registration). Honestly, what else can you want from a smog place? The only way I could make this place better is by maybe adding a coffee machine or donuts to their waiting area, which is otherwise what you'd expect for any other auto service place. Another thing I liked was that it's right around the corner from a Mexican supermarket, so I just did some grocery shopping instead of waiting. Beware do not use this business. I took my 2014 auto for a registration required smog check. I watched the owner-clerk-representative of Smog Zone check my parameters prior to performing a smog check. I witnessed this through the window and watched the technician plug the computer into the auto computer under the dashboard. The tech proceeded to smog check the car. The owner-clerk-representative told me that my car passed smog but it needs to be driven and returned before he can submit the certification to the DMV. The owner-clerk-representative charged me for the smog check and told me I would have to pay again when I returned at a later date; after the parameters completed or went through its cycle. In short, they knew that the car would not get the certification before they started the test. If they charge me initially and then let me return the car for a final check at a later date for no charge then that would be fair. This is a dishonest practice and a waste of consumer time. Most reputable smog stations tell you to drive your car and then bring it back at a later date. read more

New person in shop now seems to create a fail by revving engine in low gear. Other clients also were needing $50 "retests".
