This morning, I stopped to mail four items, and found that the box was stuffed full. Not wanting to leave my items exposed to whatever, I tried retrieving them. Along with them came half a dozen of other people's mail items. Being a good citizen, I did the post office's work. Entering through the only operating door (for at least the last week), I dropped the entire batch inside. This would be a classic example of Zohran Mandami's definition of bureaucratic complacency on the part of the post office. The Merrifield Post Office is beyond disreputable and dysfunctional. My only reason for using it is convenience, but even that is becoming shaky.

There's not a lot of parking here. Also it is extremely busy on Gallows Road. Do be cautious leaving, and my recommendation is take a right, and turn around if you need to. Also there's a traffic light that can work close by. A very nice staff here. Have found them to be professional and knowledgeable. This USPS offers all of their services too.

They went from scarce hours (around two years ago) to straight up closed 24/7. USPS has 2 locations in McLean; this location on Spring Hill Road is the only one that does passports. Scheduling an appointment online was quick and easy; there were plenty of timeslots available. I arrived at the post office about 7 minutes before my appointment. Almost immediately upon entering, a very polite staff member asked me if I was coming in for a passport. After I told him I was and gave him my appointment time, he had me stand off to the side while he finished helping the customer that he was currently helping. Afterwards, he immediately started to process my passport application. I had read the instructions and filled everything out before, so it was a very painless process. He took photocopies of my drivers license and birth certificate. I already had passport photos taken somewhere else so we didn't need to worry about that. All in all, the process took 5-10 minutes. I have waited MUCH longer at other USPS locations for passport services so it was great to be in and out so fast. Another perk of this location: plentiful free parking. Definitely can't get that in downtown Bethesda.

Parking was challenging and treacherous--every spot was full despite it being a weekday morning, and people were pulling out from in front of the store right into the lane for drive-thru letter drop off. Once I got inside, the box for prepaid mail was locked, presumably because it was full. There was a line of almost 10 customers waiting, with only two busy employees doing their best to handle the queue. I left my boxes in a pile on the front counter with other prepaid mail. But I honestly considered leaving and going to another post office, because everything here seemed so disorganized.

Then cameras show he takes it back because he thought he delivered it to the wrong address. I call up the postal inspector and they tell me to fill out an Online form to get my $100 back. The online form will not allow me to file a complaint because I don't have a certified mail number. I call this post office. They say to fill out the online form. I come back they say I have to fill out the online form. After 6 months of trying to talk to managers and so forth I give up. Then they stop delivering packages to my door and try to stuff it in my mailbox. When my mailbox clearly gets full after a few days, they take all of my mail and tell me I have to go to the "distribution center" to pick it up. I go to three different locations around my house and no one can tell me where my mail is until I get to this location. The manager "gives me a talking to" for not picking up my mail in my mailbox. After waiting about an hour I finally get my "mail." This has happened multiple times. The last straw was that they said they tried to deliver something to my House door but the note was in the mailbox. I was home the entire day and my cameras show no one trying to deliver anything except I did take Amazon packages from my door. They leave a note saying I need to come to the distribution center to get my package. I go there and they said they accidentally sent it back to the sender. Sorry. No recourse. SOL. I can't believe this. I am considering filing a legal complaint. I spoke to the postal inspector so many times and have gotten no resolution on any of my issues except bureaucracy. I have to take off of work to go to the post office so I'm losing income from this. No wonder the post office is set Uo for failure.

Today, the newest employee is not left there to do everything by himself. Today is not the same song and dance that I experienced two days ago. Today, I have a small package to return. While waiting in the long long line, the third employee showed up to work and things went fast afterwards. I was prepared to have a bad review on this experience, but alas; good things come in small packages. Hey!, a double entendre for me. All and all, it was a good experience.

Who scratches off a shipping label without even asking whether it's a new label, simply because they saw me pick up a package earlier that day? Absolutely ridiculous. And that's not even the worst part. When I came in earlier, they actually LOST my package before eventually finding it. First, they can't keep track of packages, and now they're tampering with shipping labels without asking questions. This is beyond frustrating. UPS seriously needs to train its employees. A little professionalism, common sense, and basic communication would go a long way. Unacceptable customer service.
