The Clarkson S. Fisher Federal Building and Courthouse on East State Street, Trenton, NJ, was built…read morein 1932 in the Renaissance style and has undergone several renovations over the past decades to increase security. The post office that once occupied the first floor was removed because it attracted too many people and due to the inaccessibility of convenient parking. DHS eliminated street parking in front of the building because of the risks realized in Oklahoma City. My first law office in Trenton was down the block, and I still find myself in the neighborhood for the Trenton Transportation Center and state offices nearby. Recently I had a few legal matters inside the courthouse, and found my way to the courtrooms on the upper floors for conferences and oral arguments. The chambers and courtrooms are large, high ceilinged and somber compared to the local courts, and give a sense of decorum and dignity that reflects the seriousness of the issues handled there. Just ascending in the elevators and walking the halls brings forth gravitas. So, I enjoyed the time there. The arguments by both sides; the close questioning by the magistrate and judge, and even the settlement negotiations beyond the heavy doors of the inner sanctum. Even better when we succeeded. Not that anyone should want to be called to court there on the wrong end of an indictment or a civil dispute, but if you find yourself there for a less oppressive reason, take a few moments to appreciate the impressive marble, polished wood and heavy oil portraits that contribute to the history of the U. S. Judiciary, and the awesomeness it brings to your day in court.

I read reviews about this location that included some crazy things about the staff yelling at you…read moreand disrespecting women. Turns out--they were right! The man in the photographs shared on Yelp is indeed still employed by the government. He seemed used to talking back to customers and told a nice lady to "Calm down" when she got frustrated that they weren't able to accommodate a money order purchase. This man needs to be reported, but according to him, his "supervisor isn't in today". Dude needs to get a grip. Your job is inherently stressful, I get it, but NOT at the detriment to the decency and respect someone deserves to be treated with regardless.

"The East Indian gent doesn't know the basics of his job and has to call upon his coworkers to complete most functions. (He's a representative most customers try to avoid like the plague, but easier said than done.) Today this nitwit refused to send a box of books via media mail for me, though I've sent books via media mail through this post office before. He said that only "tax books" could be sent via media mail. I asked if that meant my other packages (books) were sent in error via media mail, and he then barked at me to hit the screen to "continue ... continue ... continue." Afterwards, I called the USPS customer service number on the receipt and was informed that the nitwit was a hundred-percent wrong about the media-mail procedure. My complaint has been lodged and will be forwarded to the Rt 33 Post Office, so that the nitwit can be enlightened."
