This is hands down the laziest, surliest, and least helpful group of people you will encounter in service positions in the city of Seattle. I've had a PO Box at this location for years, and after witnessing and experiencing what passes as "service" at this place, my patience has finally run out. Had a package delivered on a Monday. I didn't bother going to retrieve the package that day because even though I receive a notification that the package has been delivered, it takes them an entire day to actually make the package "collectible". Which is the latest issue. When a package is small enough, they are supposed to put the package in lockers that are adjacent to the PO Boxes, and leave a key in the PO box. This is very convenient since a customer can run in, grab the key, then the package, and be out of there in a minute without having to deal with the usually giant queue of people waiting for service from the 1 or 2 people at the counters. A couple of years ago, I noticed that with the exception of 2 packages, all my packages are being held behind the counter and a yellow package notification is dropped in the PO box. This is a huge pain as parking is a nightmare there, the queue of people is usually out the door, and at most 2 people will be working the counter. You never know how much money to put in the meter, and often, they won't ask if someone is there to pick up a package. So you'll be standing there for 30-40 minutes while the meter is ticking because they are TOO LAZY TO WALK THE PACKAGE TO A LOCKER. Yes, yes, I know, during the holidays, it's possible that all lockers will be used up. But this happens ALL THE TIME now. The day after my latest package showed as delivered, I got there at 5:45pm only to find a yellow package notice card in my PO Box. There were 3 people still behind the locked window (more than when they're open) and so I tapped on the window and showed them the card. One guy pointed to his watch and said they were closed, and when I said it should have been put in a locker, the response from another worker was that the package was too big. That's a bold faced lie. I went back the next day(!) to retrieve the package while they were open. When the package was handed to me, I told the worker it would have fit in a locker. The standard response for this is "I wasn't here yesterday, the lockers must have been full". That's a lie too. I was there the previous day, the lockers weren't full. And after she handed me my package I went and counted and fully 1/3 of the locker were free. They are just LAZY! So lazy in fact, that of the 3 doors that SHOULD be accessible on the northwest corner of the building, only 1 is open. One has been broken for weeks (if not months -- I'm losing track of just how long); the door that is closest to the stairs off 42nd is locked half the time (as it was the last I went) because they are TOO LAZY to unlock it!. The only door that is unlocked makes you cut right through a queue of people who are using the self-service mailing machine. These doors can't be opened from the inside. I don't even know how this is not a fire hazard or code violation. I hate this place so much. It's a headache every single time. Don't even think of shipping anything from this place over the holidays. Christmas will have come and gone and you'll still be in line. There is one nice competent person who works there. The older tall woman who has been there for ages. She knows her stuff and is nice. I haven't seen her there in a little while. Maybe she had her fill of the place too. read more

One of the busiest post offices in Seattle with the exception of the Downtown branch. What slows this station down are the college kids who don't fill out their paperwork or address their packages before reaching the counter, which is no blame of the counter workers. 90% of the reasons for the slow line is either people coming to the counter with a bunch of junk they want to mail but don't have the common sense to put into a box or envelope and address it to the people they're sending it to. This isn't rocket science: if you want to mail something, put it in a damned box and address it. And if you have 100 envelopes to mail, don't go to the counter and buy 100 stamps and stand there sticking them on for an hour - get the hell out of the way so other people can use the cashier. Customers stand at the counter and fill out the admittedly complicated customs forms for overseas shipments and seem incapable of doing it alone. Educate yourself before you get into line. If you don't have actual business to transact then handle your 101 questions over the phone and let people do their business. If people did these things there would never be a line at this office. They have a kiosk for quick mailing for those who want to get in & out without using the main counter but that requires more intelligence than the average customer appears to have. read more

Which is good because most of the workers here are about as lively and competent as the heavily medicated residents of a psych ward. Wow.. Reading all the reviews on here, can't help but agree that a 1 star is spot on accuracy for this USPS location (perhaps USPS in general!). Plain in simple, they lost my package. Mike, the guy who was adamant not to help over the phone (his first response when I asked him if he can check for my package at the location was "Have you checked online yet?" Are you kidding?? OF COURSE I've checked online!! Basically an excuse not get up and go check..). After explaining that I had already spoke to a nice lady at customer service about it and that I already have a case number, he put me on hold to go check. I wait for a few minutes, and the only explanation he has is that the delivery guy probably forgot to scan my item - which explains why my tracking status is stuck on "out for delivery" and never got to "delivered". He suggested I file a claim online, which I tried and told him that it declined my tracking number. After another few minutes of talking to his manager, the only answer he has is that it's not a primary package so there's nothing I can do. Bogus! This is NOT right, usps! read more

I have had the worst experience of my postal life here. Again and again. It's some sick repeat that never goes right. This office has lost my package today, as they had twice before in the past. I have spent over 140 minutes waiting in line, waiting for employees, to only hear that...."my package can't be found." no one knows where it is. It isn't supposed to be out for delivery, but now it's missing. Again. This is not the first time this has happened, and if I could have people send packages in any format I would highly advise against USPS at all costs. The amount of time currency that is spent dealing with these people is unreal. It's truly a disgusting disappointment and I've lost a tremendous amount of respect for all postal workers because of this location. Get into a private business like UPS or Fedex already. I wish I could give the USPS in the U-District LESS stars. (I realized that this is my second review of this place in 3 years... hasn't gotten better). Not only do they push you away when you have a question about your package, but they also are careless with their packages/mail. My husband's tax return was left OUT IN THE OPEN at our apartment complex. We've also had packages go missing... I'm currently missing a package that they kept reassuring would come "tomorrow" days ago. I called to see what's going on with it and they said they'd call me back. Well, they didn't. SO I walked down there, again, to see what was going on only to be pushed aside saying that the package would come "tonight". She made no effort to check it again (heck, I wonder if she even checked the first time I came in!!), did not listen to my complaints. Her name was Mi, by the way. Clearly, all they care about is making the line "disappear" while it can. Horrible customer service, slow delivery... worst USPS I've ever had to deal with. Not just that, but the lines are ridiculous. They need more staff to keep their existing staff sane, not to mention the customers who they take it out on. read more

It wasn't super crowded when I was there, but it was maybe a 5 minute wait. The staff weren't necessarily the most talkative/friendly, but they weren't rude and were plenty efficient and getting me in and out. read more

Worst post office ever. The service here is ALWAYS super slow. They are always understaffed. It's not unusual for the staff to have issues speaking the English language either. You'll also find staff doing meaningless tasks when there's a line of 20, when they should be at their counter helping people. There's also no parking provided, so you'll have to pay the high meter fees. read more

I will give them ONE STAR. Mostly because the people who help you ship packages are super friendly and helpful. BUT behind the scenes this post office is a COMPLETE WRECK! First of all, I've had 2 packages that they claimed were "delivered" when they were not. Then they blamed me for not receiving them and said someone stole them from outside my house. I told them no one would leave a package outside our house because the door is on a busy street with lots of foot traffic, but again they said I was out of luck. I called the post office back and both times my packages were sitting in the post office - just lost in limbo. THEN, I have had 2 other packages that were returned to sender DESPITE having correct addresses. One of those packages was a 2-day delivery containing my master's thesis, which needed to be completed and returned by the end of the week! I FEEL LIKE I CANNOT TRUST THEIR SERVICE AS THEY HAVE PROVEN UNRELIABLE ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS. Blame it on whatever you like, this is a systems error. I know people make mistakes, but these are not simple human errors these are serious organizational errors that need to be fixed ASAP. read more

This po is the personification of why the usps is hated & would be out of business if they were subjected to free market principles rather than living off of endless tax payer handouts no matter how many billions they loose annually. The lines here are always super long. I'd recommend the Wedgwood (98115) or Northgate (98125) branches if those are easy for you to get to.

Whoever delivers to 12th and 52nd has a bad habit of updating tracking numbers as delivered, and you won't even get the package until one to three days later. It has happened to me three times already--- the fourth time I actually reported it, and doing so I might have blown my chances of ever seeing that package. My apartment building has keyed access which the mail carrier has, and I highly doubt the package was stolen by any of my neighbors, because remember, this has happened three times already. read more

Very poor service of USPS in general and this particular branch. I am waiting for important document I need to submit on Thu. My mother sent me paperwork from Tri Cities on Mon, where she was told it will arrive on Thu. When I called to the office, the representative told me that the package is in processing facility and could arrive on Mon. It is not only more expencive than regular shipping but much more longer. When I explained him that I need paperwork today and that I was told it will arrive tod, he sent me to hotline. HOTLINE DOES NOT HAVE CUSTOMER SERVICE OPTION! I waited 45min yesterday morning to send a packages and I received the packages in my mail box today.... They confused TO and FROM!!!!

This is the worst post office I've ever dealt with. I don't write bad reviews, ever. But someone in charge needs to know how this location is operating. I called about a package that had been marked as delivered to my mailbox, which is funny because I don't have a mailbox, I work at the office of an apartment and had something mailed to my work to receive in the office. The tracking says it was delivered at a time that I know I was sitting in the office, just inside the main door, so I know they didn't even deliver it. If they had they would have seen a name not listed in the mailboxes and brought it to me to check. Several of my residents have also come to me with concerns that their packages have been lost or stolen, and there is nothing I can do to help them. When I call, all they do is put me on hold forever until they eventually hang up, around 10 minutes later. Perhaps if their carriers didn't just leave packages strewn all over the lobby, right in full view of the front windows, they would have less of a problem with packages being stolen. This has happened twice in the last four days. When I finally got through to someone he was very rude, said I am lucky USPS delivers for Amazon too because Amazon delivery people suck (while I agree, I don't hold USPS in much higher regard, especially as of late) and continued to put me on hold. Again. The supervisor takes such a complete lack of responsibility for these issues. I wish I had more control over what carriers I had to deal with when ordering online, because if I had a choice I would never want to deal with such an unprofessional service ever again. read more

Consistently THE WORST customer service I've ever received. I can deal with the S-L-O-W service...and believe me, you'll have to---but the attitude you get when you finally reach the counter surely isn't worth it. There used to be some nice and very helpful people there, but now it's just burned out people who openly complain about how hard the job is. Really? Because I just stood in line for 25 minutes when there were 2 people ahead of me only to have the clerk change the envelope I had prepped and ready. Instead of giving me the 10 seconds it would have taken to complete the new address card (that I was in the middle of), he moved my bag behind the counter and started to call people over. I told him I had already been waiting a long while and would appreciate the 10 seconds (he could have even used the time to do something constructive, like ringing me up) but he called over another lady who he spent another 10 minutes on while I stood there frustrated. Then after admonishing me for not sealing the large envelope, he started all over by asking me if there was anything combustible or flammable in my post...of papers...that HE put in the envelope himself...and I had already answered this question about. When I reminded him we had already discussed that, he started in about how making a tough job harder. My patience can only stretch so far and after a 12 hour grave yard shift, that's too much for me. To be so slow, inconsiderate, and blatantly hateful to be there covered in "where were we again?" frosting is totally unpalatable. And this wasn't even end of the day burn out, it was 9 o'clock in the morning. You know it just gets worse as the day goes on. I certainly couldn't expect anything other than suspension at my job after acting that way. And he walked off bitching without giving me my stuff back. After I had to make a scene to get my bag, he exclaimed "unbelievable!" to the line hoping to garner sympathy. "My sentiments exactly," I concurred as I left. What a nightmare this post office is. I went in today with the only information I had-- a confirmation code that they gave my mom and the fact that they emailed saying they attempted delivery on Friday, oh and the fact that my mom told them to hold the package as I would pick it up rather than deal with an attempted re-delivery. Fast-forward to today (Monday): Waited at least 30 minutes in line before they told me that they didn't have my package and the confirmation code would not help them. They said they were closed on Friday for Veterans Day and so they did not try to deliver mail (I definitely got mail on Friday). Called my mom, who then checked her email to see that it had been "redelivered to sender" despite her telling them to hold the mail, apparently because my mom got the address wrong. Got home after my trip to the post office, and guess what I found: a piece of paper in my mailbox that still doesn't have the proper tracking number, only the confirmation number, and states that they tried to deliver it again today (my husband has been home all day, so again, going to call bull on this). Oh and my address was on the slip of paper, so there's that too. But wait, there is more: on it they wrote that 1) It is not a restricted delivery, 2) the recipient does not need to be present, and 3) the address of this awful post office that I already visited once today. So I would love to know where my package is, but it is possible redelivered, or lost somewhere in this post office. read more
