Whatever you do, do not hold mail here.
I waited my 30 minutes in line with only about 5 people ahead of me, at 3pm which was a slow time for them. Otherwise I could be waiting an hour or more during a busy time like rush hour or lunch time.
I got to the desk, and the large flamboyant black guy says, "what do you want"
I attempted to force a warm smile. His face was cold as ice. I tried my best calm friendly voice and asked to pick up my mail.
He replied with a gruff "why do you want that?"
"I had my mail held", I said.
"Why did you want your mail held?" he replied in a rough voice.
While thinking "it's none of your business", I said politely,
"I was out of town."
He said, "how long was the hold for?"
Getting impatient, I forced another smile and said politely, "I would just like my mail please".
With a grunt and obviously unhappy attitude, he collected my ID and turned around and went to get my mail.
5 minutes later, he returned and said "We don't have any mail. I'm getting the supervisor to look."
Now take note, I know that a certain piece of mail came because I was tracking it. Also it was over a week, and never in my life have I gone more than 1 day without any mail, even junk mail. So this is unacceptable that they could not find my mail.
I waited about 15 minutes, and the short asian manager meandered over with a huge frown and grimace on his face. "We have not mail for you" he said in terrible broken english in an almost unintelligible asian accent.
I replied, "I definitely have mail, it's been over a week".
He just repeated himself, completely ignoring that I had said anything at all. Then he rudely went over to the far, opposite side of the counter, and started helping another customer, as if that were the end of the conversation.
I followed him to that side, and said as politely as possible, "I need my mail".
He first ignored me. I repeated myself and waited 3 minutes with him not even glancing at me standing there, just talking to another customer (who, by the way, was having an issue because the post office lost his package),
After a few minutes he finally re-acknowledged my presence, and said as rudely as possible, "We have not mail for you" in the same almost unintelligible accent and horribly broken grammar.
I tried to reason with him. I said "there are three things that could happen, 1) you did not hold my mail, 2) you gave my mail to the wrong person, or 3) the mail is here in this building.
He acted as though he didn't understand english, and repeated, "we have not mail for yuuu" in a rude angry tone.
I still tried to maintain my cool and repeated more slowly and clearly, "did the hold work?"
He said, "I did not deliver mail to you, the mail is hold until [the end date]".
I replied, "ok, so then there are only two things that could happen with my mail: one, you gave it to the wrong person --"
He interrupted me, "nooo didn't do tat".
I tried to maintain my calm. "Ok then the only thing left is that it is in this building".
Again he repeated as if either I was not talking or he was too rude to listen (or didn't know english), "we not have mail for yuuu!!" almost shouting now.
I replied more sternly this time while maintaining politeness as much as possible, "something happened with my mail and I need to pick it up." Attempting to reason with him and assuming he was not retar ded, I said, "since the hold is active and it was not delivered, and since you say you didn't give it to the wrong person, then it has to be in this building. I need my mail."
He again ignored every word, saying "We not have mail for yuuu!"
Now I'm getting frustrated but trying to maintain my cool. Personally I think that he understands english, but that he just doesn't give a *** about his job or the customers.
Then is where it got more interesting. I discovered that all along he actually didn't tell me anything, but secretly evaded the question with an illusive and irrelevant answer. He now said, "I have to ask the post delivery man" - I can't remember exactly what was said to get to this, but basically, it went something like this:
I said, "So you were just saying that you personally did not go to my house to deliver the mail?"
"Yes", he says.
DUH - of course he PERSONALLY did not visit my house. Of course when I said "you", I meant "you in general" aka The Post Office! Basically, instead of actually answering the question, "did you deliver my mail", he instead was a huge smart *** and answered as if I had asked him if HE PERSONALLY delivered my mail. Either he is stu pid, or he was being a total jack ***. I believe he was being the latter.
At this point, I asked him for his superior's phone number to report it. Instead he wrote down the phone number of THIS POST OFFICE, which of course is a phone no one answers. read more
