A lot of times packages aren't scanned so the customer is left to guess which day & time it arrives. A single route will have different start points depending on each individual mail-person. This diversity makes it impossible to establish a narrower/better window of delivery. I can understand a carrier may prefer to start at a particular point. Maybe they want to start at a less challenging to gather momentum or they want to lighten the load faster by going to a cluster of boxes (apartments, assisted living, business complex, etc). I wish the best for carriers and only ask for a standard of common syncopation be established so the customer can better determine an arrival time. read more

Worst post office in Seattle. I accidentally dropped off a package for UPS. It sat at the post office for over a month. When I called they said I they would set it aside and I could pick it up. The lady at the counter argued with me that they didn't have it. I insisted to speak with her manager who quickly got it and gave it to me. Another time I submitted mail forwarding and brought all my id to have it verifying. He glanced and at the ID and submitted the paperwork. 2 weeks later I got a letter saying I had to come in and verify my ID! If at all possible go to another location! read more

This is the WORST post office ever. They are always under staffed. Every time I go there to pick up a package I end up waiting in line for 30 to 45 minutes because there is only one person working, and they refuse to call someone to come down and help them. The employees at the front desk tend to be very rude, often yelling at customers and each other. They are clearly overworked and not supported by management. Aside from the constant long lines and horrible customer service, they regularly lose packages, and offer no real answers or solutions. Many times I have found other peoples packages or mail crammed in my mailbox. I have read the other poor reviews on here, and every word is true. This review is specifically for the University Way NE Post Office in Seattle. I rarely leave reviews but the level of dysfunction here needs to be documented. I paid $130 for 2 day shipping. My package arrived at this facility in one day and then sat there for four additional days without moving. The tracking showed it as Available for Pickup yet when I went in the staff dismissed me with a rude "It's out for delivery." wothout even checking anything. I went home and waited and no delivery ever happened. This location has serious operational issues. The tracking information is inaccurate and contradictory the staff is unapologetically rude and there is absolutely no sense of responsibility for packages stuck in their system. They refused to help refused to check and refused to acknowledge the delay even though USPS marked it as available for pickup. This is not a one time mistake. It is a pattern of poor management poor communication and poor customer service. If you value your time or your mail avoid this branch when possible. read more

I know the USPS is a vital service, but I've never had a good experience here. Long waits, rude staff, and staff who don't know how their own products work. Today (Monday 4/28 at 3PM) was especially bad. I prepaid for some package labels online and chose the QR option. Note you can only do this with a staff member, not the self-service kiosk. I waited in line and when it was my turn, the staff member got upset I put the packages on the table instead of the scale, and then when I put them both on, she looked at me as if I were dumb. I showed her the QR code and she said "well which package does it go with" but it went with both since two labels would be printed with it. She then told me to use the self-service machine, which, again, it cannot be used with. After I told her that, she said "I need a break" and just left me at the booth. You can then hear her screaming in the backroom. She leaves us all in line with no staff in the front for about 15 minutes. When she comes back, she yells at another staff member who also comes out at the same time for putting packages in the wrong place and he apologizes meekly. Then she finally scans my packages and doesn't acknowledge anything about leaving me halfway through the transaction or screaming or the wait. Unfortunately, I'm stuck coming here, but I wish I didn't have to. I might honestly buy a printer to print labels just so I wouldn't have to deal with the staff. read more

Before moving to Seattle I had no reason to use the post office for anything. But every time I walk in there the employees make me feel like I'm a massive idiot. I got heckled today by the people behind the counter over the fact that I didn't know some things about padding a package. The black girl complained I was taking too long to pad a gift for my MOTHER. Forgive me, your highness, its a scented candle. It can break when jostled about. Chen stuck a fucking sign in my face as I approached the counter, saying she was going on break. I was the last person in line. The first thing I'm doing when I move is canceling my PO Box, because the only reason why they exist is because of the fact that people's mail gets ripped off by bums so often in this neighborhood. Everyone, and I mean everyone behind that counter, are so useless.They have this attitude like I should bend to their every whim, when it is they who need to accommodate to my needs as someone who is using their services. The only reason why I haven't popped off on any of them is because, ironically I care more about my behavior and not being an asshole than they ever will. Avoid like the plague. read more

This gets 5 stars for service and 2 stars for the location and lack of aesthetics, being kind of dingy and the entry having sketchy folks nearby, where it can kind of smell like urine and feel a tad dangerous with a homeless transient element that loiters around the area. I like the one lady who works here that was super helpful about a non-USPS question I had about the area and asking for information or assistance. If they renovate this, push the transients out and clean it up it can be a state of the art USPS location. read more

The past month I have been finding my mail just laid out at my front door, when there is a mailbox for my building. And I live in a high pedestrian traffic area where people have stolen packages off my front door! This morning I was walking past the the closed down, now vacated, commercial space next door and noticed some mail haphazardly shoved under the door. It turned out to be my neighbor's mail! How do you mix up residential mail with a vacated commercial space?!! I made a complaint with USPS customer service. And I'm gonna walk into that location to make another complaint in-person. Poor customer service. The line was a bit long and it took a while to get a second person to help with pick up packages. I had a man in line harass me and my girlfriend because we didn't see or hear someone close that was to the front who had their hand raised when the man came up to the check in area and asked if anyone was picking up packages. The man continued to insult to us when I said we didn't hear him. He said "oh you don't have common sense then" he's insulting disabled people which I happen to be. I've come in here for a few times to send packages, as well as to open a PO box. The staff seems friendly, and the overall wait time isn't too bad considering we're in the middle of a pandemic. However, when I came in last Wednesday, one of the staff members didn't wear a mask correctly (their nose was sticking out); this isn't the first time I've seen them wear a mask incorrectly. I was also upset when they threw my packages after I handed them my packages to ship and obtain a receipt - I assumed my packages were thrown into a pile to be sorted/shipped out. Although I didn't have any fragile items in my packages this time, I would have preferred for them to gently place it down to show that they care. read more

There are always sketchy people hanging out around the entrances and they aren't very quick once you're in line. They found my package. It was torn open, the label was ripped off so it couldn't be scanned for delivery updates. I made sure everything was in the box and luckily nothing was missing or damaged. Main issue: long lines. Hypothesis: staff chat with each customer and then the processing time slows down significantly. Problem: I don't go to the post office to chat. I go to the post office because I need to get things in the mail and then get back into my daily routines. Even if you are the second customer in line, still prepare to wait for about 10 minutes. Any wait between 20 to 40 minutes is completely normal. It is great that each staff try to personalize each customer's visit. The reason for this low rating is based on my recent experience with Hold Mail Service. I normally have friends or neighbors hold my mail for me but I did not want to inconvenient them any more. Story 1: I was out of town and put my mail on hold at the post office. Once returned, I went to the post office and picked up my mail. I gave the staff the confirmation receipt and number and said I would like to pick up my mail please. She looked at the receipt and asked, "Hold mail? What is this?" Me, "I was out of town for awhile and put my mail on hold here." She asked, "So you want to put your mail on hold?" Me, "No, they were on hold already and should be ready for me to pick up." She said, "You are picking up mail from here?" Me, "Yes. I have this receipt and confirmation number." She asked again, "I see...so you want to put your mail on hold like starting tomorrow? When are you leaving?" I said, "No. I just got back." She looked at me weird and went to the back side of the office and came out with my hold mail. Story 2: (Months later and was out of town for awhile) Me, "Here is my receipt and confirmation number. I was out of town and put my mail on hold." The lady at the counter looked at the receipt, "Ok. I will be back." 5 minutes have passed and she came back, "I do not see any mail." I asked, "Are you sure?" She said, "Did you put down the correct address?" I said, "Yes, this is the correct address. Can you double check?" She said, "There is no mail back there. I don't know what happened." I answered, "But I put this request online and got this confirmation number." She asked, "We don't have your mail." I said, "The only reason I put them on hold here is because I am expecting an important letter. I did not want my mailbox to overflow and have to miss the letter." She said, "There is nothing there. Do you know your mailman? Can you ask your mailman?" Then she wrote down something on my receipt and said, "Call this number to complain. She is my supervisor." I later called the number to ask where my mail would be. The supervisor told me that she would ask my mailman. Later I received a call from my mailman and he said, "I am sorry but I missed your Hold Mail Service request so I delivered everything." I told him the amount of letters I had in my mailbox was less than normal given the length of time I was away. In addition I was expecting an important mail during that time but never got it. He just said sorry but I don't know what happened to your mail. read more

I am so glad I never have to use this post office again since I moved out of the U-District. It is always seriously under staffed which leads to ridiculous lines and lengthy wait times. Whenever I would come here, I would give myself 45 minutes to an hour before class/work just to get my business done at the post office. But the worst part about it all is that the employees here have the most bitter, negative attitude towards everyone (even including the most pleasant, patient customers). Yet the employees are buddy-buddy with each other, which I have seen before they decide to help me, and seem to collectively hate everyone who walks through the door with a package to mail. Once, I saw a woman come in to ask general, valid questions about a package she was mailing. And the employee just didn't want to listen to her or help her even if the customer asked very nicely and politely. The employee kept repeatedly saying, "Do you want to speak with my manager?" for no reason. The woman was so confused as to why the employee was asking this and explained she was just figuring out the best way to mail her package. The employee had the nerve to treat her so disrespectfully for no reason. This was so wrong. If you live in the U-District, I would recommend using the Wedgwood post office instead to avoid the U-District post office at all costs. It is not worth your time or energy to have such terrible experiences here, even if it is close to where you live. There are much better post offices nearby where you won't have to witness such awful behavior by employees. read more

This is the second time i came to this location and I shouldn't have. It was the older man again with the glasses and has a terrible attitude. He didn't even greet me or really look at me when I was trying to figure out what register was his. I had to send a signed letter to the superior court, but when I greeted him, I told I didn't know what I was doing. After he processed everything, He told me I was sending the letter to myself. I switched the addresses on the envelope because again, I didn't know what I was doing lol. He yelled damned it! in front of other customers. He didn't have a mask on. It should not take a half hour to ship a couple small packages on a weekday morning especially if there are only about 6 people in line. I don't think I've ever seen people move so slowly. It's almost like they TRY to be slow, like there is some sort of slow quota -- do not serve more than 4 customers per hour and when you're about to, quickly put up your gigantic "next window" sign and scurry to the back. OK and also if I come up and say "I need to pay for these envelopes and send these by media mail, no stamps, no express, no guarantee, " don't respond by asking if I want stamps, or express, or whatever guarantee service. Is that expecting too much? Did I talk too fast? Oh, and it'd be nice if you actually open your mouth when you speak so I can understand what the hell you're saying. The US post office is an unfortunate example of why socialism would never work. It's full of rude, incompetent people who really couldn't care less about your mail, but will never be fired because of the bureaucracy. So, I just moved into the 98105 zip code, and this is now my post office. My mail gets picked up from my mailbox approximately never. Today I called the post office about this issue and was told that they don't have a responsibility to take my outgoing mail from the box. Their suggestion was that I leave it on top of the mailbox - including mail with sensitive financial information, on a busy street in the middle of the U District. Riiiiiight. When I expressed my disbelief, the manager asked me what my suggestion was. You know, other than just taking the outgoing mail when they're putting the new mail in. Lame. read more

I talked to the mailman, and they said they called my phone and also knocked the door, but actually, my phone was not ringing at all, and I was at home all day waiting for the package. Working in the University District, on "the Ave", is a horror show. Reading the reviews of this post office branch, I feel I need to defend the people who work there. I worked on the Ave for three years and, through my job, went to the post office three or four days a week to deliver packages. Yes, the lines were almost always long (though not always, sometimes I was in and out in 5 minutes) and the wait can be long even if the line is not, but usually, this is not the employees fault. It's yours. College students, the crazy riffraff of the Ave., various mentally unstable individuals: these people often don't know what they are doing. They slow up the line, stand in line for frivolous or unnecessary reasons, are horrible to the employees, and don't understand the basics of how to mail a package or letter, causing the employees to spend and inordinate amount of time with one person. The worst offenders are the kids just starting college; use to their parents doing everything for them, they expect the post office to do the same. Their ignorance regarding basic knowledge of how the postal system works (like how to use a mailbox) causes the long and slow lines much of the time. Of course, the place is also clearly understaffed and possibly badly managed, but this is not the fault of most of the people that work there. Try to be a little nicer to who ever finally helps you at the end of that line; they're over worked and treated horribly by the customers. -e read more

There's always an employee in the back roaming around and avoiding customers in the perpetually accumulated lines (I see you). Go in the morning; it's less busy. Homeless folks sometimes sleep in front and pee by the ramps so entrance stinks. Avoid stepping in any puddles. USPS protocols may differ from private companies so I don't blame them but I'm ranting because I just lost $300-worth of contacts. Seriously, who steals prescribed contacts? Without a doubt, the worst Post Office I have ever visited. I stood in line with 14 other customers, and only one employee helping customers. Three of his co-workers, including a supervisor named Paul, were having a causal conversation a row behind him, while we all just stood in line - watching them. Finally, after 32 minutes Paul (again! a supervisor) comes over and opens a window - not like he was on a break or lunch! An elderly lady who has been patiently waiting tells him that perhaps someone should be helping the customers, he sarcastically replies "I know, I know." No apology, not even an attempt to try an rectify the situation. I stood in line for a total of 40+ minutes. Absolutely horrible. read more

A puzzlement. I generally don't pay attention to post-offices in the city, as I rarely have any need to go to one now that I rarely mail letters (or packages). But due to the fact that I needed to get a new passport and that the U.S. Dept. of State for some reason refuses to take anything in payment but checks, money orders, or cash, I had to run down to this seemingly perfectly fine post office at 2:00 pm. to purchase a money order. It took me a little over one half hour to do it. A half an hour in line, two minutes at the counter. During the first half hour, there was an average of about 12 people in line, while there was only one postal worker at the counter. Needless to say, it was very slow. An Asian man and woman were at the other end of the counter talking to each other about something. The silver-haired Asian man would abruptly interrupt the one staff person who had to wait on all the people in line, one at a time, and bark--I mean talk--very loudly in a dreadful accent. A supervisor? (In any case, it does seem that some government workers take a perverse pleasure in speaking at very loudly in public as if to say, "The rules of civility don't apply to me." Finally, at 2:30 pm a woman opened another window. When I asked her why I l had been only one person the whole time I had been waiting in line, she told me that, "well, the other person has to have his day off." In any case, I would avoid this post-office, as the supervisor does not seem to be doing a good job of allocating available staff and fitting a time schedule to meet the needs of the public. I had never seen just one postal worker at the counter of a U.S. post office. Of course, there is the possibility of budgetary constraints. In any case, I would advise anyone who needs to buy a money order or do anything that does not absolutely require going to this branch of the post office to do it elsewhere, at another branch, or at Safeway if it's just to buy a money order. read more

Never in my life have I been more disrespected by another person, let alone a complete stranger. Today, 2/10 at 5pm I called the USPS office located on University Way in Seattle, WA. On the USPS website, my package was listed as delivered but I had not received it. I knew that either it had been stolen or there was a mistake made my USPS, so I called to investigate. I was treated as a lower class citizen by the employee and supervisor, Rashim. First, when explaining that I had visited the website, I was interrupted midspeech and told, "You said UPS, this is USPS." and he then proceeded to attempt to end the call. I corrected him and reaffirmed it was "USPS" I was speaking of. He then patronized me, "Oh?" and I could distinctly hear him in the background speaking negatively about me to another person. I informed him that I could hear him and that I would be filing a complaint. He then proceeded to try and hang up on me again but I stated, 'I still need assistance." He said, "Oh, aren't you going to go make your little call?" I responded, "Yes, after I'm finished with this one."I then asked if he was ready for the tracking number, to which he COMPLETELY ignored me and didn't say anything until I asked, "Is that a yes or a no?" He then said, "Go ahead." I told him the number and he then reiterated what I had already said - the package was supposedly delivered. I said I knew that and was just trying to investigate further. To which he responded (again, with an attitude), "Investigate what?" He then said that the only thing he could do would be to check with the courier. I asked if I could have the courier's name and he thought about it for a minute, and then said no. I then asked if I could have his manager's name and he said "Zack." I then tried to calmly and maturely explain to him why I felt he had been rude in the hopes that we could truly work it out so that I didn't have to file a complaint, but before I could say a sentence he then flat out hung up on me. I've worked in customer service. I always make a conscious effort not to be one of "those" customers that makes work hell. Instead, the roles got flipped and I was the one treated absolutely poorly. Rashim was absolutely HORRIBLE to me. I've worked with plenty of USPS workers at this location who have been perfectly fine to work with. Interestingly enough, my missing package was ACTUALLY delivered the next day. UPDATE: On 2/15 Zack personally called me to apologize for Rashim's horrible behavior. I really appreciate the follow-up and that appropriate action was taken. As I mentioned, every time I have gone here in the past the employees have been fine, no issues. I know they work hard and are probably exhausted so my expectations aren't high, I just want to be treated like a person. I just used the automated mailing center which is always a snap if there's no one in front of you. I picked up my flat rate box a couple of days ago and today shipped home 11 jars of Trader Joes Cookie Butter! Box should be delivered by Thursday and I will be back home next Monday...so Cookie Butters will be waiting for me! (OK, I will share some with friends).
