I'm always hesitant when I walk into a post office, always feel so lost, but she answered all my questions and helped me send off my packages. I'm rating this post office 3 stars and all of those stars go to the architecture. I would give 5 stars, because it's a beautiful iconic turn of the century building, but I'm afraid folks will think it's for the service, too. The service is terrible. So let me be clear...the service deserves 1 star and that's really unfortunate. Today, there was no real line (2 people waiting), however the staff was not calling people up to the windows. They just sat there. After few moments, they called next, but said it so low that no one heard it except for a woman standing towards the back of the line. This post office echos, so it picks up all noise. They have to call out loud enough to hear them over the general hustle and bustle in the hall. You'd think they'd know that, given the obvious job security situation there. Great place to stop to rent a mailbox or conduct a quick transaction, like buying stamps. I think I'd leave it at that. Depending on the attitude you get from the person helping you, your shit might not make it to its destination. read more

We booked a passport application online at USPS.com and available appointments starts at 0830. We picked 0900 ans low and behold, their office hours starts at 1000 on Saturdays! Why would they offer appointment times that are before they open? Our time is valuable that was just wasted. read more

This is one of the worst post offices I have ever dealt with. The carrier incorrectly marked my unit as "vacant" even though I live here and have never moved. As a result, none of my mail has been delivered for months. This includes critical federal documents such as identification and other time-sensitive mail. Because of their negligence: * I missed important federal documents * My employment was delayed * My mail is now missing, and no one at this office can give a clear or accurate explanation as to where it went Every interaction with staff has been frustrating. The employees are rude, dismissive, and shockingly unknowledgeable about basic postal procedures. No one takes accountability, and no one seems concerned about the serious consequences their errors have caused. This location needs to be investigated, and serious corrective action needs to be taken. I would not trust this post office with anything important. read more

The architecture and attendant "Augie" are the reason for any stars. The building is beautiful and Augie is incredibly patient and kind. Other than that, the women here act like they hate you before you even open your mouth to say anything. I make sure that I am always a respectful customer because there is nothing worse than someone coming into your job and giving you a hard time because they feel entitled to do so. But damn, you would think I walked in and called them names because the way the women here treat you is unreal. Leave here feeling small and stupid. read more

Went to mail a package on Monday 10/27/25. Rude female employee. I asked about the cheapest way to mail the package I had. She said I had used a priority box, just because it was a box of the same size and I would have to pay the priority rate. It was my own box from home!! She then told me to go to another post office and see if someone there would send it the way I wanted. I agree with Vanessa A about the poor employee attitude. Also, employee was not busy as there was no line! The ladies here are actually retarded. I always ship the same thing in the same box at the same post office and the two black girls in the front we're being super difficult about me using the same box that I always use so they told me to buy a envelope. I didn't feel like arguing with them further so I asked how much the envelope was going to be and she said she didnt know and that I had to pay first. How am I going to pay first and I don't even know how much it is and I had already been waiting 20 minutes in line and she told me that I would have to rewrite everything on the envelope and get back in line when she could put the sticker on the envelope and the whole point of our argument with her saying that she couldn't put the sticker on the box. This has got to be the worst post office. Their staff often rotates, which makes service inconsistent, spotty, and unpredictable. There is always a long line with only one service window open. The staff really do not give a care about their job, they are a 9-5 (if they even begin at 9) type of staff. The ones that show some slight of care, do not last long, and often end up in another division. There really is a limit to how much you can blame something on COVID-19. However, this post office is beyond that point. Other than the disappointing service I have received at this post office, their execution in the area is worse. I have dropped off mail in the area, and some never get scanned at origin and some end up missing. I have had mail scanned as delivered, but they never get delivered. You cannot contact the US Postal Inspector because she forwards her work phone to her cell phone, but it goes straight to voicemail, and, of course, her voicemail box is full. You also cannot email her because it bounces back as not existing. I have seen bogus status updates such as "animal interference" for mailboxes that are in a separate area of residences and businesses. This post office definitely does not have their stuff together. There is no transparency here. Their staff will often scan something as being done, and then do it the next morning (6-8 am), and that is shady. The postal carriers could care less if they put the mail in the right boxes or if they scan something as being received at origin or delivered at destination. This was for a new passport and had to be checked. She only said put in an envelope and she would mail it. That's all she could do. I spied 3-4 people behind the counter. 2 appeared to be doing nothing or at least nothing to help reduce the line and get people their mail. The post office is an archaic institution that needs to be revamped or replaced. This location is far less efficient than most post offices in Los Angeles. I came to retrieve a package I needed to sign for. The window for that service was as open but unmanned. Waited in line for an additional 30 minutes before finally receiving my package. I've used this San Pedro Postal Service for 9 years & the service is poor quality w/a few exceptions due to their Post Master! He's unethical person! Example, I complained about a rude postal employee and his response was telling all his employees that I complained about the whole group which wasn't true! Then he harassed me by putting safety pins in my PO Box which made it difficult to open! He uses one employee when there's a big line and not used the others! I put a complaint against him to the USPS Office of Inspector General. I hope they fire that Post Master! I needed to complete something. I reached into my purse for return address labels and money for postage. She told me to step away and not to come back to her window. I took my items and came home. This is a historic old US Post Office that had been built in the early 1930's. Beautiful Streamline Moderne architecture and interior with murals on the walls, and original writing tables and fixtures. The space is also designed so the area is filled with natural light. Simply lovely. That said, this post office location can get a bit dicey due to its proximity to homeless encampments. There are often panhandlers who hang out near the entrances/exits - most are harmless, but some have been obviously inebriated or under the influence, so be mindful of your surroundings when visiting. I usually come in the late morning and have never had a terribly long wait. But know that they don't have many employees working here, so if there's a rush (holiday seasons), then expect longer lines/wait. There are curb parking spots along the streets in front. Even if you're just interested in taking in the lovely design, do it - this hidden treasure will definitely transport you back in time. read more

Someone from the post office has called and canceled my passport appointment twice in the past 2 weeks. They say it's "circumstances beyond their control" but I made the appointment on the website so I know it's available. Why do you continue calling and canceling my appointments? It keeps getting pushed further and further because then I have to try to find another appointment somewhere else and it's going to ruin the chances of getting it in time. This review is about the US Post Office on Beacon Street in San Pedro. That Post Office has several long-term employees. A few of them are truly kind, respectful, and you can tell they enjoy their jobs. There are some, however, who are in this brother - sisterhood among themselves, and they're sometimes snooty with customers like me. I am a part of the homeless community that is called the "working poor." I've had a difficult time getting a post office box there in an effort to comply with the requirements. I had a post office box in Los Angeles that I had for over 35-40 years. But I now live in San Pedro and I want one in this area. I'm finding it difficult to qualify to get one with the window agents I've been encountering. Will go online and see if I can get this to happen. But we were told to take our mail and put it in the lobby box even though we were standing right across from a clerk and had just put stamps on our envelopes. She didn't want to take those envelopes and put them in for us. The Post Office has signed its own death warrant by REMOVING ALL POSTAL BOXES in the streets of San Pedro, they say due to mail theft, but hey, if you don't want to or can't safely leave mail outside your house or apartment for pick up, you are going to have to make a trip all the way to a post office. Here's a clue for you post office. Lots of people do not want their landlord or neighbors or their bosses or coworkers to see what they are mailing or to whom. We asked two carriers we saw delivering mail elsewhere to take our bills with them. We asked them where the postal boxes were and they said they dunno and we'd have to call to find out. There is a nice old school Post Office in San Pedro. The staff are entitled slackers which means they have great "job security" no matter the outcome. Three of them were standing around with 3 windows open and none of them came to help a customer. He asked for their names and they walked off. He said this is why UPS, Fedex are around because Postal workers are terrible and he is right. I saw the whole thing go down. If someone cares just look at the video feed and fire all those guys or cut their play because they are leeches. I then asked my neighbors if any of them go to this Post Office and all said never because of horrible service. The carrier from this branch lied and said our dog "attacked" him (she barked from the front yard). We then noticed our mail just stopped being delivered, with no notice. We called and lo and behold he filed the falsified "attack" and this branch has now decided to permanently end mail delivery to ALL THE HOUSES ON OUR STREET! They keep saying a notice will come about this and of course it hasn't. Every time I call I get different (and opposing) information. The best part? The only option for us is to get a post office box. Hmmm so the only option for this bogus lie is something that financially benefits this post office?! This is legitimately fraud. We've gone back twice and attempted to speak with someone, anyone, and of course all supervisors are conveniently too busy. When we finally got someone, a terrible supervisor named Melissa, it was possibly the rudest service I've ever experienced. Completely insane and rude beyond imagination; she made it nuclear, immediately. We told her we found out not only had the carrier falsified the attack, but had even reported our dog bit him, and this was an egregious lie. Melissa's response? "He didn't say that." The post office itself, (and the employees therein), isn't half bad... Lines usually move smoothly and the customer service can vary from crappy to superlative. The real issue here are the panhandlers and head cases that are allowed to harass incoming patrons at the entrance. They range from comical to bordering on what looks like the next Charlie Manson. Most are harmless but I still wouldn't let my wife or daughters go there by themselves, that's for damn sure... Throw in the ridiculous amount of homeless encampments that encompass the entire perimeter of the FUC'n place, the accompanying unsanitary conditions, the putrid stench associated with said conditions and you've got one helluva adventure ahead of you... Do yourself a favor, avoid this location at all costs. Use the satellite post offices on Western Ave. or the Assistance League in Weymouth Corners if at all possible. As usual, long line, 1 cashier. And when I came to pick up my package (because I had a notification on my phone from the sender stating it was available for pick-up) I was told to come back tomorrow. The lady didn't even bother to look for it, or check the tracking number I had. She just told me, " if the notification says it was delivered today, it will be ready tomorrow." I come back the next day and there's a message from USPS.com telling me my package was delivered to my p.o. box. Nope.... Not in the box. The guy looks for it this time and says he can't find my package. He'll try to find whoever scanned the package, and I should try again Monday. I was flat out told by an employee there that was double masked BEHIND a plexi wall that I couldn't be serviced due to me not having a mask. (I have a medical exemption). I know how people can be frustrated by the post office at times, I had similar experiences at a past post office. However, I have nothing but good things to say about the staff at the Post Office on Beacon street. Especially Diane and Eula (sp?) Prior to my arriving in San Pedro, Eula helped me finalize a post office box setup over the phone. She was friendly and professional. I was pleasantly surprised after having unhappy experiences at my previous post office. After I moved to San Pedro my change of address somehow was screwed up online in a major way. Diane, in customer service, was beyond helpful. She made sure the address was corrected, and even followed up a week or so later to make sure everything was in order. This was all during Christmas time, so getting our mail was very important to us, especially considering our recent move. I frequently go to the Post Office on Beacon street and rarely find the line unreasonable. I have included many pictures here that verify that. Some were taken during the busy pre-Christmas weeks. The architecture is a beautiful example of Streamline Moderne. Simply fantastic. I have provided several pictures for everyone to see. Yes, there is a homeless shelter nearby, and many homeless people are camped behind the premises. I too am often asked for money. I give as I am able. Their presence, however, is not the fault of the post office. This is controlled by the city, who should indeed do something about it. Not only to make our visits to the post office more pleasant, but to take care of the homeless people who do what they can to survive. I also viewed some of the videos of postal carriers throwing packages over fences. This is unacceptable, but should not reflect on everyone. Only the inconsiderate employee. Hopefully management has taken care of this. My carrier is courteous and professional. He does everything he can to make sure I get my mail. I understand people my have past grievances, but I can only report on what I have experienced. Which is only good. Keep up the good work! read more

I have been anxiously waiting for a pkg. I had tracking on it every step of the way, it's that special to me! I received notice saying I would receive my delivery no later than 8:00pm today. Everything was going smooth until USPS DECIDED TO LIE.. AGAIN!! I just received another msg stating my pkg is being held at the post office at MY request!!! Um, excuse me??!!! I NEVER asked for my pkg to be held - ever!! WTF? I guess it's getting late and the mail carrier wanted to go home. So now, I (as a 60 yr old immunocompromised woman) have to go to the dreaded post office tomorrow!! Ridiculous and LAZY on the part of the P.O. and inconvenient for me!! I got in and out if less than ten minutes. The traffic in and around the office is minimal, but it is on a on way street. It seems this is also a postal museum. I will be visiting this place again and I hope I can go upstairs to see the museum part of it one day. There were enough windows open to handle a constant line of 15 patrons. Garbage delivery personnel and customer service. I recently purchased a rather important gift and extra costs for shipping to be delivered by a specific date, which I was told was "guaranteed" by said date. I received a notification at 9:58am that it was out for delivery. Then at 4pm received another notification saying it's being delayed due to weather. I checked the weather and it was 72 and sunny. After investigating it, the package was not delivered because of an "animal". There are no dogs or cat or animals in that premises. Either the post office is full of it or the delivery guy got spooked by the few squirrels and birds we have in that area. When I tried to call to get it redelivered, I was placed on hold for over 30 minutes until I had to give up. Thanks, San Pedro USPS!! My mother went here just this morning to send a military package for my brother currently deployed overseas. My mom is hispanic and though fluent in English she can't speak with the skill a native would. making it hard to defend herself. Almost as soon as she gets there she describes being accused of cutting in line even though she had been there since 8 o clock as she assumed it opened at 9. She gets up to this clerk and it's a black woman. This woman starts accusing her of stealing tape that she seals the box with??? She begins yelling at my and explaining the tape is theirs and speaking to my mother like she is a child. My mom speaks yo her respectfully even addressing her as ma'am. The lady tells my mom to not call her ma'am and that she's a woman? It's absolutely ridiculous. I very much beleive it's racism they were showing to my mother. Had I been there it probably would've gone differnce . Do not go to this place to send mail or do anything, especially if your a minority I really beleive these people are racist. read more
