I'm rating this post office 3 stars and all of those stars go to the architecture. I would give 5 stars, because it's a beautiful iconic turn of the century building, but I'm afraid folks will think it's for the service, too. The service is terrible. So let me be clear...the service deserves 1 star and that's really unfortunate. Today, there was no real line (2 people waiting), however the staff was not calling people up to the windows. They just sat there. After few moments, they called next, but said it so low that no one heard it except for a woman standing towards the back of the line. This post office echos, so it picks up all noise. They have to call out loud enough to hear them over the general hustle and bustle in the hall. You'd think they'd know that, given the obvious job security situation there. Great place to stop to rent a mailbox or conduct a quick transaction, like buying stamps. I think I'd leave it at that. This is one of the worst post offices I have ever dealt with. The carrier incorrectly marked my unit as "vacant" even though I live here and have never moved. As a result, none of my mail has been delivered for months. This includes critical federal documents such as identification and other time-sensitive mail. Because of their negligence: * I missed important federal documents * My employment was delayed * My mail is now missing, and no one at this office can give a clear or accurate explanation as to where it went Every interaction with staff has been frustrating. The employees are rude, dismissive, and shockingly unknowledgeable about basic postal procedures. No one takes accountability, and no one seems concerned about the serious consequences their errors have caused. The architecture and attendant "Augie" are the reason for any stars. The building is beautiful and Augie is incredibly patient and kind. Other than that, the women here act like they hate you before you even open your mouth to say anything. I make sure that I am always a respectful customer because there is nothing worse than someone coming into your job and giving you a hard time because they feel entitled to do so. Went to mail a package on Monday 10/27/25. Rude female employee. I asked about the cheapest way to mail the package I had. She said I had used a priority box, just because it was a box of the same size and I would have to pay the priority rate. It was my own box from home!! I always ship the same thing in the same box at the same post office and the two black girls in the front we're being super difficult about me using the same box that I always use so they told me to buy a envelope. I went to try to get my passport at this location. I spoke with Gina and was no help at all. she would not listen to me and what I needed. She was overly rude and dismissive. This was for a new passport and had to be checked. She only said put in an envelope and she would mail it. That's all she could do. This has got to be the worst post office. Their staff often rotates, which makes service inconsistent, spotty, and unpredictable. There is always a long line with only one service window open. The staff really do not give a care about their job, they are a 9-5 (if they even begin at 9) type of staff. The ones that show some slight of care, do not last long, and often end up in another division. There really is a limit to how much you can blame something on COVID-19. However, this post office is beyond that point. Other than the disappointing service I have received at this post office, their execution in the area is worse. I have dropped off mail in the area, and some never get scanned at origin and some end up missing. I have had mail scanned as delivered, but they never get delivered. You cannot contact the US Postal Inspector because she forwards her work phone to her cell phone, but it goes straight to voicemail, and, of course, her voicemail box is full. You also cannot email her because it bounces back as not existing. I have seen bogus status updates such as "animal interference" for mailboxes that are in a separate area of residences and businesses. This post office definitely does not have their stuff together. There is no transparency here. Their staff will often scan something as being done, and then do it the next morning (6-8 am), and that is shady. The postal carriers could care less if they put the mail in the right boxes or if they scan something as being received at origin or delivered at destination. This is a historic old US Post Office that had been built in the early 1930's. Beautiful Streamline Moderne architecture and interior with murals on the walls, and original writing tables and fixtures. The space is also designed so the area is filled with natural light. Simply lovely. That said, this post office location can get a bit dicey due to its proximity to homeless encampments. There are often panhandlers who hang out near the entrances/exits - most are harmless, but some have been obviously inebriated or under the influence, so be mindful of your surroundings when visiting. I usually come in the late morning and have never had a terribly long wait. But know that they don't have many employees working here, so if there's a rush (holiday seasons), then expect longer lines/wait. There are curb parking spots along the streets in front. Even if you're just interested in taking in the lovely design, do it - this hidden treasure will definitely transport you back in time. read more

They say it's "circumstances beyond their control" but I made the appointment on the website so I know it's available. Why do you continue calling and canceling my appointments? This review is about the US Post Office on Beacon Street in San Pedro. That Post Office has several long-term employees. A few of them are truly kind, respectful, and you can tell they enjoy their jobs. There are some, however, who are in this brother - sisterhood among themselves, and they're sometimes snooty with customers like me. I am a part of the homeless community that is called the "working poor." I've had a difficult time getting a post office box there in an effort to comply with the requirements. I had a post office box in Los Angeles that I had for over 35-40 years. But I now live in San Pedro and I want one in this area. I'm finding it difficult to qualify to get one with the window agents I've been encountering. Will go online and see if I can get this to happen. Three of them were standing around with 3 windows open and none of them came to help a customer. He asked for their names and they walked off. The carrier from this branch lied and said our dog "attacked" him (she barked from the front yard). We then noticed our mail just stopped being delivered, with no notice. We called and lo and behold he filed the falsified "attack" and this branch has now decided to permanently end mail delivery to ALL THE HOUSES ON OUR STREET! They keep saying a notice will come about this and of course it hasn't. Every time I call I get different (and opposing) information. The best part? The post office itself, (and the employees therein), isn't half bad... Lines usually move smoothly and the customer service can vary from crappy to superlative. The real issue here are the panhandlers and head cases that are allowed to harass incoming patrons at the entrance. They range from comical to bordering on what looks like the next Charlie Manson. Most are harmless but I still wouldn't let my wife or daughters go there by themselves, that's for damn sure... I know how people can be frustrated by the post office at times, I had similar experiences at a past post office. However, I have nothing but good things to say about the staff at the Post Office on Beacon street. Especially Diane and Eula (sp?) Prior to my arriving in San Pedro, Eula helped me finalize a post office box setup over the phone. She was friendly and professional. I was pleasantly surprised after having unhappy experiences at my previous post office. After I moved to San Pedro my change of address somehow was screwed up online in a major way. Diane, in customer service, was beyond helpful. She made sure the address was corrected, and even followed up a week or so later to make sure everything was in order. This was all during Christmas time, so getting our mail was very important to us, especially considering our recent move. I frequently go to the Post Office on Beacon street and rarely find the line unreasonable. I have included many pictures here that verify that. Some were taken during the busy pre-Christmas weeks. The architecture is a beautiful example of Streamline Moderne. Simply fantastic. I have provided several pictures for everyone to see. Yes, there is a homeless shelter nearby, and many homeless people are camped behind the premises. I too am often asked for money. I give as I am able. Their presence, however, is not the fault of the post office. This is controlled by the city, who should indeed do something about it. Not only to make our visits to the post office more pleasant, but to take care of the homeless people who do what they can to survive. I also viewed some of the videos of postal carriers throwing packages over fences. This is unacceptable, but should not reflect on everyone. Only the inconsiderate employee. Hopefully management has taken care of this. My carrier is courteous and professional. He does everything he can to make sure I get my mail. My mother went here just this morning to send a military package for my brother currently deployed overseas. My mom is hispanic and though fluent in English she can't speak with the skill a native would. making it hard to defend herself. Almost as soon as she gets there she describes being accused of cutting in line even though she had been there since 8 o clock as she assumed it opened at 9. She gets up to this clerk and it's a black woman. This woman starts accusing her of stealing tape that she seals the box with??? She begins yelling at my and explaining the tape is theirs and speaking to my mother like she is a child. My mom speaks yo her respectfully even addressing her as ma'am. The lady tells my mom to not call her ma'am and that she's a woman? It's absolutely ridiculous. I very much beleive it's racism they were showing to my mother. Garbage delivery personnel and customer service. I recently purchased a rather important gift and extra costs for shipping to be delivered by a specific date, which I was told was "guaranteed" by said date. I received a notification at 9:58am that it was out for delivery. Then at 4pm received another notification saying it's being delayed due to weather. I checked the weather and it was 72 and sunny. After investigating it, the package was not delivered because of an "animal". There are no dogs or cat or animals in that premises. Either the post office is full of it or the delivery guy got spooked by the few squirrels and birds we have in that area. This USPS is the worst. How are they even still open with their crap service. I had a parcel coming from Arkansas that was a gift for my husband. I got an email alert from them saying they failed to deliver the parcel last Saturday due to my house address not existing?? That's funny, because you don't have a problem delivering junk mail, our neighbors mail, and our regular mail to our mailbox/house. Amazon, UPS, and FedEx don't seem to have a damn problem. My husband went down to USPS the following Monday morning to try and see if he could pick it up since it was the first business day. He talked to a heavy set woman who told him that the only other reason why it was undeliverable was because the label probably was not legible. He asked if she could check if they had the parcel in the back, which was under his name, and she said that she would have to charge him $32.50 to go back there to look for it. WTF?! Are you serious! My husband said he never heard of that before and refused to pay. She then said to just wait a few days until it got back to the seller to resolve the issue with them. How is it that the parcel was already turned around and headed back to Arkansas?! You're closed on Sunday! She was useless and super lazy. I'm sorry doing your job is an inconvenience. After going back and forth with her, my husband realized it was a lost cause and left. Tuesday afternoon comes and guess what's in our mailbox?! The damn parcel!
