USPS - Post office on eighth Street - Post Offices Near Me - San Pedro, California

This is the cutest post office ever! It's run by sweet little retirees who work for the National Assistance League. I really like coming here because the customer service is always great. I have never had the problems here that you get with a regular post office, like making a long ass line stand there while they cackle about their weekend in the club, or the attitude because they have to help you and they want to go on lunch...again, or the "I'm a total bitch" attitude, because they've been working there too long and clearly should have been removed from their position. It's a small office, so don't expect them to be able to do everything that a regular post office can, but they are very efficient and trained well on postal procedures. Most of the time that I go in there it's fairly empty, but if it gets a little full, you will have to take a number. They are open Monday through Friday 9-4:30 and are closed on weekends. The post office is located tucked in the Weymouth shopping area. There are stores like a bakery, a florist, a couple restaurants, and a clothing store, in addition to other local shops. It's a one-way street, so you have to enter off of Weymouth, but there seems to be enough parking and on the street and in between some of the buildings. read more

I have been here many times over the years, and if there are more than two people it turns into a living hell. They try to make a big deal out of it being a volunteer run post office. Worst. Idea. Ever. What next? A volunteer DMV? If you're a volunteer and totally hate what you're doing and are completely incapable, it's not something to be applauded. All employees are older women that struggle with technology and are always angry and unpleasant. Every time I go there it's a dumpster fire. Christmas time? You'll want to kill yourself even before you're halfway through the line. Complete incompetence on every level. If they were incompetent but sweet it would be tolerable, but incompetent and super rude, it makes for a hellish experience. The post office is usually a bummer experience with people that are paid well. Imagine it with angry grandma volunteers. Imagine it and scream. read more

Happen to spot this cute post office when I dropped some shoes off at San Pedro shoe repair across the street. I needed stamps and decided to check it out. The ladies were very nice behind the counter. A part of the purchases go towards helping less fortunate children and other charities. I love this kind of thing. I thought how sweet? Elderly volunteers helping customers and children both. I purchased some muppet stamps since I really like the muppets. A big kid at heart! The parking is great and free too. No crowds either. I do not like going to any post office, but this one takes the cake! I had a small package with a prepaid label to drop off. Came here to drop off and had to maneuver through the camp of homeless people outside just to get inside to the package drop area. The parking lot was sketchy and lurking with more homeless. The whole area parking lot, sidewalk, entry, and inside of the post office was dirty. I dropped off my package and got out of there as fast as I could! Will not be returning! read more

Cute, quaint building, though the sweet, yet cranky octogenarians who run this place are not ready for current day prime-time. They ought to have at least one person on the ball working during open hours. Not enough time right now to list the situations I witnessed go south in there recently. This place is cute, a relic for sure. You may enjoy it, if you are not in a hurry and have a small box. Being close to closing time, having large boxes, or being in a rush get you trouble here. It's clear who is next in line but at random times they will require you grab a number and wait for them to call out all numbers before yours (no one answers) The ladies will remind you they are not paid for their work... So, they don't feel they have to help with things that pain them. Like finding the priority mail envelope you need. Or explaining the difference between flat rate priority mail and ordinary priority mail (potentially much cheaper). read more

Workers are miserable there, I don't understand why they even volunteer. Very rude and they do not like business owners to use their services cause "boxes are too much of an expense for them." Which is not true according to other Usps post offices, they are free and the one on western said that I can have as many as I want! Western location is helpful and pleasant! Today I Had to do a quick drop off and got the stare down and silent treatment and was not welcomed at all Again! Usually I get asked if there's fragile or perform not one word just ugly stare down from all 3 employees working today. read more

I understand the Usps is overwhelmed right now and that this location is run by volunteers. I just waited 35 minutes in line to ship my holiday packages. I did not have packing tape though my packages were otherwise complete. The woman told me that she'd love to help me but that I need to pack it and they couldn't provide tape. Never had this issue before or had someone go out of there way to be so unhelpful. During the holidays no less. Literally I'm going to spend over 2 hours getting tape and again wait in line to send out my packages all because the woman was not able to add a strip of packaging tape. This post office is either very entertaining and if you're into old ladies- very "cute". OR it's painfully irritating and slow. Depending on which way you look at it. It can be both and either/or. It's run by volunteers, however that works... That is, old, wealthy ladies that have nothing better to do than volunteer at a post office. First time I went there it was all good. Had to do an international shipment. Filled out the forms, it took a little time, but no worries, it was done. Walked in the second time to do an international shipment- and these are little, light envelops we're talking about- and I was immediately sent out the door and told I'd have to fill out the customs forms myself, because otherwise they "would have to get on the computer". What kind of fucked up excuse is that? Waste of time. read more

The employees at this small post office are not US Postal Service/Government employees. They are Assistance League volunteers that apparently have some sort of arrangement with USPS to operate a post office, and I've never had any problems with them being rude or excessively slow. Props to them for volunteering their time, standing on their feet and running this place. If you must have a full service experience with real USPS employees, just go to the main office on Beacon Street. You will also get to deal with all the tweakers and panhandlers from the nearby halfway homes. Good luck with that. I'll take a slightly crabby, elderly Croatian lady all day long. read more

This, Place is super cute and the older women that work there are full of sassy and life.... I find them to be very very help.... Plus they are always very friendly and whiling to answer any question that you my have.. I think it's important to start by saying this is the only ALL volunteer run post office on the country. Most of the volunteers are retired postal workers and this location is a tiny, neighborhood-y spot. Definitely not the place for running your business out of. Go to a larger facility that can actually accommodate the large scale of mail services you require. I am very happy to be able to pop in and ask a question, get the occasional stamp and mail out holiday packages. Even if the woman ringing me up is a little grumpy. It's endearing and at that age if you're STILL committing to providing a service to your community after you retire, I think you have every right to be a little grumpy now and then. read more

This place is horrible, not only is it a tiny space but the employees here are so fucken slow and act like there is no one waiting on them. I felt completely uncomfortable, ignored and unwelcome. It's not worth to have USPS employees that work so slow and that don't wear their uniform compared to other USPS locations I've been to that are welcoming and professional. I hope this place closes down, it's not worth to even have a USPS that's going to in a tuna can space with unworthy employees. A USPS place needs to work in a fast environment with people that need to get in and get out! read more

I drive out of my way to go here. The volunteers are always so pleasant and helpful. Example: I got there one afternoon, missing the last pickup of the day. When I told the ladies behind the counter how important it was to go out that day, a lady standing in the back rushed forward grabbed the package out of my hand saying ,"I think I can catch him !" and ran down to the corner where the USPS truck was about to take off, banged on the cab and handed my package to the driver. It all happened so fast, my mouth was still agape by the time she strolled back in. I asked if there was an extra charge for this extraordinary service. She just smiled. This is my neighborhood post office~ But, I always drive out of my way to not go here. Every time I go here the workers are soooo rude!!! They have big attitudes and act like you are a burden to them.. They are sooo impatient, and definitely do not understand the concept of customer service. Don't you dare ask a question, or they will belittle you. Also, they are soo slow (they move like snails maybe bc everyone that works there looks about 100) .. Maybe its time to let these volunteers go (bc they SUCK) and hire some new fresh faces with pleasant attitudes. read more

When I first moved to Pedro, this place made me nutty. Slow and small. But I go here a lot and have come to know how dedicated the team is to the assistance league and to making sure your packages are addressed, packed and do everything short of delivering it for you. They are all great people who give to their community even if they aren't the fastest and that's okay by me. read more

I cannot believe this place Only has 3 stars. I have been coming in here for the past two years to ship out my Etsy and EBay items. If you didn't already know, this is the ONLY all volunteer post office in the US. I have watched these wonderful little ladies be so patient and kind to some of the rudest customers. Especially during the holidays! It is really sad to watch how rude people can be to them knowing we live in such a small community and that they are not even being paid for their time. Yet they continue to provide service with a smile!! I started coming here because it was close to my house. Nice little post office. The older folks here are very slow, but they are volunteers and give off themselves to our community. They do not have money orders here, at times it does get busy and maybe these seniors are overwhelm but thats no excuse for bad service. Terrible customer service. They close at 4:30 on Mondays and I walked in at 4:28, rushing from work, to send off a package. It wouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes to accommodate, but the clerks refused. So lame! read more

Small and cute, but the old ladies are not that customer friendly. When they are nice, they remind you of something; when they are not, they could either blame you for not speaking up on using your own stamps or look down upon you for not knowing parcels always come with a tracking number. They are not fast calculating how many stamps you need for your mail. read more
