Great Library books sale & donations in the lower garage of the library! Great prices, variety including a wide variety of everything from foreign books, children's and musical records, 50c paperbacks. The Wonderful staff who donate their time are attentive & absolutely kind, patient and helpful to get you steered in the right way whether a receipt or questions. Come during working hours on the weekend.

[Review #780] 2023-067 The Palos Verdes Library District (PVLD) was established in 1929, & the Peninsula Center Library is 1 of 3 libraries (other 2 are Malaga Cove & Miraleste Libraries) in the system serving in the Palos Verdes Peninsula. PVLD's libraries has lots to offer in terms of events & programs for the community: from their extensive collection of books, movies, ebooks & emagazines, to the Annex for teens, to story time (even in Mandarin) for children, to passport & notary services. PVLD's mission is to connect with the community through communication, engagement, & fundraising. I first discovered the Peninsula Center Library after I started my new job in 02/2022, & found out The Foundation had donated a sculpture by CA Sculptor Brad Howe that's located across the street from our temporary office. Since 04/2022, I've been a regular at the library, bringing my kids on the weekends. Yes, you read right -- weekends; they open on Sundays from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, its sisters are only open on Saturdays. PCL is the largest of the 3 with meeting rooms along with audio/visual equipment available for rental; complimentary WiFi is available in public areas for work or study. I was an avid reader as a child; with limited funds, I read more books from the library than I owned. I always joined the summer reading program when I was in elementary school, placing top 3. My local Chinatown library was great for its size & collections... if I had this access as a child, I'd be too overwhelmed to even attempt to finish any type of category/collection. My inner child wishes to return several decades & this library will be my second home. LOL I absolutely love, love, love this library!! Can't you tell by some of my pics? ;-) And even more so since the elimination of late fees during Summer 2022! The children's books are set-up so little readers can easily grab what captures their eye/interests. Oh how I wished I knew about this library when my kids were toddlers. The youth section does an amazing job rotating activities every month (I think?)... from scavenger hunts to coloring to arts & crafts. To encourage new readers & retain the interests of current readers, there's a dedicated wall & bookshelves that showcases the latest toddler to young adult books, & the far right top rack holds brochures & pamphlets of current events & library info. For the slightly older student set, there's a PVLDWriMo event series that includes writing workshops & write-in events, with peer feedback that's held in fall. Is the timing meant to coincide with the start of school to help these tweens/teens with their writing creativities? Dunno know, but I thought it was a great idea. The events rotate amongst the PVLD libraries with most held here. For the adult patron, there's plenty of books, movies, ebooks & emagazines (from OverDrive, Hoopla, kanopy, PBS Video, pressreader, etc.) to choose from. They even have video games! What!?! With your library card, you can also access LinkedIn Learning (for free), with thousands of online courses for personal development or in-demand skills for career development. PCL even offers activities for adults & seniors like "take & make crafts" (I did an Air Plant Terrarium that lasted 18 months, which is an amazing feat for me... I'm so talented, without a green thumb, that I can even kill a cactus), qi gong classes, smart gardening - composting 101, etc. I would say their annual "Summer Read-A-Palooza" is probably the best & most active program that involves all ages with prizes to earn from young to old. This is the 3rd library district that I've enrolled both kids in the summer reading program: Palos Verdes, Torrance (home library), & L.A. The librarians are super nice & helpful! My son, who is usually shy, is confident to ask for help from the librarians at the youth desk. He's a big Pokémon fan (since kindergarten), so anytime he can get his hands on those books, he will grab them all & try to finish each in a day by reading during his meals, before & after school, & for his bedtime story. He's 7 now, & often "borrows" his older sister's chapter books or graphic novels, such as Amulet, The Mysterious Benedict, Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. My daughter's favorite author is Rick Riordan (authored Percy Jackson). I was hoping to start her on The Math Inspectors series but haven't been able to find these at any library. I love its concept of: math word problems, good mystery, short & easy to read chapters. I could go on & on about the Peninsula Center Library, & max out on Yelp's review character limitations so I'll end it here. I LOVE THIS LIBRARY for their books, resources, events & activities!! Highly recommended for you & your family!

    Excellent Workstations!

I go here to study and to read for school. Unfortunately the noise levels made by groups of kids dont really allow me to focus much.

Review #994 2026-064…read more Staff: Chris & Trina South Bay Chinese School utilizes #1 All Safe & Secure Live Scan Fingerprint for their staff & volunteers. It's located on the west side of Village Plaza, along Vista Montana, between Chantal Skin Care & Mega Acupuncture & Herb. The purpose of mandatory live scan fingerprinting is to ensure the safety of students by conducting thorough, state-verified criminal background checks, fulfilling CA legal requirements for people working with minors to prevent child abuse & foster trust with parents & the community. SBCS asked me to come in on a Friday afternoon for the live scan after the school year ended; not sure if they made an appointment prior but I was able to walk-in. The office is small with a couple of chairs in the waiting area, & no one was there except for me; even so, it took a few minutes for them to call me in to get my fingerprints after I completed the paperwork & showed my CA driver's license. I went to the restroom to wash my hands, then I was given Corn Huskers Heavy Duty Oil-Free Hand Treatment Lotion on my fingers, & placed each finger on the scanner that captures high-resolution images of my prints. I had to re-do my thumbs a few times, & my index finger a couple of times, adding more corn huskers lotion. Chris had to squish my thumbs, rolled it a few times because they didn't read well. It felt awkward due to my hand positioning & I wanted to adjust my position to be more comfortable, but couldn't/didn't since it may shift during scanning. I explained to him that my hands are usually dry & cracked from overwashing; I later learn that this may strip the natural oils & cause rejected prints. The lotion is used in live scan to moisturize dry skin & enhance the print quality, making faint/worn fingerprints more legible. The whole process took less than 15 minutes, & I was done & out. Once fingerprints are captured, they're transmitted electronically to the CA Department of Justices (DOJ), & the agency (my son's Chinese school) will receive the results directly in a few days. I don't know the cost since SBCS was covering the live scan. The process was quick & easy, though general pleasantries exchanged would be nice & polite. Not sure if appointments are required but advisable in case you're on a time constraint. If you're in need of live scan services, I recommend #1 All Safe & Secure Live Scan Fingerprint.

Sean and his team created an amazing once in a lifetime tour of Cuzco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu…read morefor my sister and I just a few weeks ago. The tailored, bespoked tour was created in conjunction with my sister, who had done her research on the region, but Sean recommended sites and places that we could have never found on our own. We were pretty adamant about having close encounters with llamas and alpacas, which we were told would be strolling along the streets of Cuzco- umm, not true. Thankfully, his team knew just where we could feed them up close and personal and learn more about them. Julio, our guide for the 3 days was knowledgeable, friendly and so very conscientious- at certain parts of the tour, we were traveling alone, and he'd give us super clear instructions as well as call and check in on us several times, especially knowing that we couldn't speak any Spanish. Julio, being a local from the region also knew all the little ins and outs of the places we explored, including best spots for photography. Americo, our driver for the tour did not speak English, but you wouldn't have even known that. He was so friendly, warm and again, concientious. And can we chat about his dressing? So chic and dapper! My sis and I wish he was our warm and friendly uncle we could visit in the highlands...! For a bespoked, tailored tour package, Adventures to Peru was very affordable, professional and a great value. Sean was very diligent in responding to all our queries (silly or otherwise) in a timely and respectful manner. He even met up with us the day prior to our tour to hand us tickets and go through instructions again. And his team was truly top notch. I highly recommend traveling through Peru with Adventures to Peru for the best, most detailed, interesting experience.

We had an amazing adventure starting in Lima, heading to Cuzco, exploring the Sacred Valley, a train ride to Aquas Calientes, a day at Machu Picchu, time to Explore and hike, a river raft excursion that had us laughing for two hours straight. The hotels were clean, the staff was friendly. Every guide we had was professional, courteous and on time. Every airport we visited had a smiling face to greet us holding a sign with our names on it. Trust me when you don't speak the language, it's a really nice luxury. I felt really well taken care of the entire trip. Sean even called our hotel room to touch base one evening about half way through. His insight is priceless on aspects like travel time, flight schedules, tipping guidelines, and altitude sickness possibilities. He ordered our trip so that we'd be at our best when we got to Machu Picchu. He built in down time just when we needed it. I'd never return to Peru without his insight, but I feel like a left a small piece of my heart there. Thank you so much Sean.
