What I encountered was nothing less than shocking and humiliating. One of the worst experiences when seeking therapy and help ever. The intake questions were inappropriate, invasive, and didn't convey any trust nor compassion. Also, my concerns weren't listened to and I was told to do things that could have potentially made my situation way worse. It caused further trauma. Never acceptable. I can't believe people treat other human beings with such insensitivity when they are going through difficulties. Having financial difficulties, being poor, or in a difficult situation doesn't mean a social worker has the right to trample over a persons' humanity and dignity. Being poor, disabled, or going through a hard life situation is not a crime. This seems to be a pervasive problem in the mental health field in general. It must change. If I had known that anyone with disabilities was mistreated per the other review, I would have refused intake in the first place. As a person with some medical training and empathy, I would never think of treating anyone in this manner. Your therapists need further training in sensitivity with a diverse population. Also, there needs to be a policy change as far as intake goes. I'm happy that I did my homework and read the reviews. It is never acceptable to treat people in this manner.

I encountered Andas a security guard who was extremely rude, indecisive , unsafe and unethical. I have been through security checks literally daily with wanding in transitional housing. I have through that with Department of Veterans Affairs and Division of workers comp and DPSS et cetera. I have never had someone so bad as Andas. You can have this you can't have this you can have this . Constantly changing his mind. He also suggested I hide lighters and other contraband I have outside then comeback in to be searched again. Severely unethical and unsafe. I left outside and he said I left something . I called the folks inside and I asked if I needed to call the police to escort me to get my property as I didn't know what they would do to me inside . They says they would call Sheriffs because legally they can't touch my property . Then comes. The person I spoke with with a phone charger wrapped in a paper towel he was carrying. Touching my belongings which he just said was illegal.in the phone. Contradictory . I came here for help and they can't make up their minds, repeatedly contradict themselves in a short encounter and are disorganized. They are very unsafe and I filed a complaint with Securitas and the County and set up another County outpatient facility and had zero problems there. Beware of this unhelpful place

The beautiful gingerbread Victorian was built in the 1880's. Dodson's wife was the daughter of Jose Diego Sepulveda, which adds to the historical significance of the house, originally located on Vinegar Hill at 7th & Beacon. Apparently the house was later moved to a 10-acre location on Meyler, where the property had killer views of the harbor. Then the house was moved again to its current location, a big corner lot at 13th & Parker. The "views" at this location are not so good. The house now faces a ball field's bleachers & is bordered on one side by a National Guard facility......good news, I suppose, for those who don't want residential neighbors at close proximity. More good news for the Dodson House: the heavily-damaged (partly a result of all the moves) & deteriorated/neglected structure has recently been restored & tastefully updated, preserving most of the original features including the stained-glass windows, the secret hidden room, the doors/knobs, and the 3-way fireplace. And the property is currently for sale, allowing people an opportunity to see the interior. Unfortunately I missed my chance to get into the house a couple weeks ago. I got my dates mixed up for the realtor open house, so couldn't get in on the day I drove down there.....but I was able to wander around the outside, which is impressive indeed. The property appears to now be in pristine condition, even the landscaping. I'm told there's new electric & plumbing, and even A/C. And I noticed a porch swing, how cool. No, I'm not gonna consider buying the house.....I just appreciate historic/vintage architecture. And still haven't given up hope of seeing the interior of the house, armed with camera. Meanwhile, it warms my heart to see that this proud & charming old residence has finally received the loving attention it deserves.

We've met people who say they belong but don't attend any members events or say they don't get help promoting their businesses. As newbies in town one of us went in there asking for leads to employment and never got any. We know they were tied up with the Old Farmer's Market (pre Little Italy) on 6th Street and we talked to people who were working that, because we were thinking about it ourselves, and many of them were upset with the Chamber but not the actual manager. To quote one long time Old Farmer's Market vendor, "She (the manager) does everything for us and the Chamber don't do ----." As a result, some of these vendors did not want to further tangle with Farmer's Markets in San Pedro. Which is sad, because if only the rich people would come down off the hills and shop in central and downtown Pedro instead of going to the mall in their cars. We spent time in the downtown area, looking to see what kind of foot traffic went on around the 6th Street area, and it was dismal, so we decided not to bother trying to rent a space for our business in that area. It was real sad. Pop still wants to open a business in Pedro but Lolly says no way. So tell us, if you are a member of the Chamber of Commerce, what do you get out of the membership? Is it just something to add to your web site that you're a member?
