See other reviews; Reno (3 Stars) and Alameda (4 stars). The lobby is not open 24/7. I guess I am spoiled with my Alameda and Reno post offices. I made the mistake on the 1/20/25 (a holiday) of trying to drop off letters (5 inches worth; I know, due to my travels, I have not checked my mail for a long time) and a package in 3 SL post offices. Atmosphere - Decent size lobby. Homeless here, hence the closure during non business hours. Plenty of parking.. One way in and out. Well it is supposed to be... They have a very secure letter mail drop off, see picture. Too bad I was only able to put 1-2 letters at a time. And no place to drop off my package. Going to the Alameda USPS tomorrow. Service - 2, barely good enough. Barely even any self service... Price - N/A, see their websites. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1971 (formed in Washington DC) with your $80B in revenue. Much controversy about your profitability or lack of it. This is an "independent" agency of the executive branch of our US government. You have an amazing history dating back to 1775, but I will not go into that here.

Instead the worker chatted with the customer in front of me about the weather and cold remedies. No big deal, probably a regular I thought. Then she proceeded to go in the back and chat with another worker for a few minutes. Then came back and chatted with a different co-worker for another few minutes, all while I waiting in line. Totally ignoring me, a paying customer. If this is the "service" we can expect from the USPS, yes, they should shut down the offices and lay off these lazy workers.

However, most of the staff is amazingly hostile and do not seem have any social/customer skills training. The added is how unbelievably old, dirty and broken down this place is in general. Then you throw in the base line "customer service" . Wait a minute, am I in the DMV? It sure feels like it. Do not expect to be in/out quick in this location…read more The postal workers are nice and try to do the best they can but usually there is only one person working at a time. Why? I have no idea. I've been there many times where they or customers are raising their voices at each other and I could def understand their frustrations. I've been lucky in that I only have to mail out prepaid packages but the complaints I've heard while standing in line gives me enough pause to consider going to any other location for anything else.

They have a self-service machine that can help with printing postage for those with enveoples and packages to go. If you are only there to pick up mail, they do have a dedicated pick-up window for mail pick up with a bell on the left side. Overall what I expected from a USPS. I've had better and worse experiences at a USPS office.

You also need a number, which I recommend picking up right when the post office opens at 8:30. Got there at 8am and was third in line. Get there any later and you're likely waiting all day. The people who run the passport office are nice and friendly. I just can't believe this is the process to get a passport in 2016. My advice: the earlier you get there, the better. Good luck!
