I guess I am spoiled with my Alameda and Reno post offices. I made the mistake on the 1/20/25 (a holiday) of trying to drop off letters (5 inches worth; I know, due to my travels, I have not checked my mail for a long time) and a package in 3 SL post offices. Atmosphere - Decent size lobby, again too bad they were closed. No homeless here today, but I am imagining that is why they are closed during non business hours? The other two SL USPS that I went to today had homeless people. Plenty of parking since this is a hidden location... One way in and out. Well it is supposed to be... Service - 2, barely good enough. Not even any self service... Price - N/A, see their websites. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1971 (formed in Washington DC) with your $80B in revenue. Much controversy about your profitability or lack of it. This is an "independent" agency of the executive branch of our US government. Do not expect to be in/out quick in this location. The postal workers are nice and try to do the best they can but usually there is only one person working at a time. Why? I have no idea. I've been there many times where they or customers are raising their voices at each other and I could def understand their frustrations. I've been lucky in that I only have to mail out prepaid packages but the complaints I've heard while standing in line gives me enough pause to consider going to any other location for anything else. read more

I have never been as shocked as I was today. I am appalled that employees in a government public service position could be so rude, disregard regulations, and lack basic common sense. This complaint is specifically directed at the supervisor and employee Ms. Yu. My family (husband, 6-year-old child, and I) arrived on time for our 11:00-11:15 AM scheduled passport renewal appointment, only to wait over 1.5 hours without any clear explanation. Instead of following the scheduled appointment system, Ms. Yu randomly waved people in without confirming their names or appointment times. We saw other people with later appointments processed before us, and our appointment was completely ignored. When I confronted Ms. Yu, she had no answer and seemed dismissive. To make matters worse, the supervisor came out and yelled at us, saying: "Everyone has to wait! Blah blah blah... You should not get a passport! Blah blah... You should go to another store!" There was no apology or effort to resolve the situation. It was a complete disregard for customers and professionalism. I've never been treated this badly at a government service location. Thank you to Lori, who went out of her way to cover for her colleagues' mistakes and helped us when the supervisor failed to act professionally. Lori, who was assisting with walk-ins, was highly professional, efficient, and did not join in attacking us when the supervisor made those inappropriate remarks. read more

This is a review for the passport services. I made an appointment online to get new passports for the kiddos. The appointment time was 1230 and we arrived at 1210ish. We were seen at 1230. You do not have to get in line or check in. Just wait in the lobby. The passport employee will yell your name at your appointment time. I was in and out in 18 minutes for my two kiddos. Here are some tips. 1. Have your application already filled out. (No double side print on application) 2. Copy of your license and your spouses license (one copy per application). Go with your spouse. Makes things easier. 3. Personal checkbook (cashiers check) need one check per application at a rate of a whopping $100 per! Don't forget to put their name and DOB if you are doing cashiers checks. 4. Bring yours youngsters birth certificate (they will take your original and mail it back to you) 5. Credit card or whatever payment to pay the additional post office fee (roughly 35 per application). That's it. Friendly employee. Painless for us. read more

Postal workers sometimes throw away mail that has been wrongly delivered which has the words "return to sender" on it. Even writing a note inside of the mailbox indicating who lives at our address doesn't stop the mail carrier from giving us other people's mail. Good luck reaching anyone from the main office. They hangup when you try. Super unprofessional and unreliable. read more

When you call in the post office answer machine tells you to go online to make appt for passport, no walk ins. When you go online there are absolutely no available appts and I did a search for over 100 miles from my area. I tried calling the post office and no one ever picks up. Horrible service for passports, to ask for appointments the system is not working and gives the choice of calling to get one . They have one woman responding this number along with the mail number for their office which I got kindly from the other location . First of all she doesn't listen , her English is bad and he won't let you talk while asking for ways to get the appointment done . Not everyone can show up at the post office during their business time because many people like me work all day . Worst Post Office around. I give it zero stars. The incompetence at this post office is beyond unbelievable. The simple inability to comply with a hold mail request is insane. Can't even remember how many times, but too many, I've placed a mail vacation hold only to have my mail accumulate at my doorstep because it's not being held. And it doesn't make a difference calling, the Abram post office location and USPS 1800, repeatedly to complain because my mail continues to be delivered. Instead I get lame excuses as to why my mail continues to be delivered and promises it will be held but no. Obviously a badly managed office. When no one was home to claim my package, they left a pink slip on my door telling me to come to this address to retrieve my package. I tried calling them to see if I could rearrange a delivery. When I was on the phone, the recorded voice said it was a 1 hour wait, with no option for even a callback. I called at 12:40pm on a weekday afternoon while I was at work, and waited 1 hour and 20 min. When someone finally picked up, I got Sheryl/Cheryl from the East Coast call center. Right when I got her, she said their system has been down for 20 minutes, have no idea when it'll be back up. Funny, last night I tried to go online to USPS, and their system was not letting me schedule a redelivery. Sheryl/Cheryl was nice, and did great, so this poor review is not reflective of her. When I went to the post office, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND MY PACKAGE! The manager who assisted me looked twice, and she said they can call me once they find it. I was quite livid, and just as I was about to give my phone number and then leave, one of the delivery guys brought out my package to the front! Turned out the staff had misplaced it, and he found it. Bless that delivery man. He was what saved this review from being 1-star. Today I called this post office and went through six rounds of transfers and a redial before reaching an extremely snotty woman who gave me major attitude when I was trying to find out where my package was lost between my hometown and San Leandro. I had to ask her twice to stop interrupting me so I could finish asking a question. Finally, she asked, "Is this package like really important to you or something?" Wow. We were frantically looking for passport renewals for upcoming trip. I called this facility. Spoke to a live person extremely helpful. Told me the details of walk in appointments. We showed up the next day 8:30AM. Wrote our name on the check in list by a young lady that worked there at the post office to sign up if we did not have an appointment and were there as a walk-in for passport renewals. They literally open at 9 AM sharp we had all of our paperwork and pictures ready to go. Just like that within eight minutes we were completed and paid receipt with a nine week turnaround time for our passports. The entire facility and Staff were kind, efficient and helpful. read more

If you're like me, you've probably caught the traveling bug now or at some point in your life OR rather maybe you like to have an extra form of identification on hand for employment purposes OR are paranoid that those domestic traveling laws in California are going to be changing soon (because I keep seeing posts/articles/blogs on this...but TBH I'm confused on when this taking place)...no matter what's your reason, getting one's PASSPORT more often than not, is a thing that's done! & YES - you can get that done here but there's some important things you SHOULD know: 1) GET HERE EARLY. Like before the Passport Office place opens because trust, there will be a line. You may think that coming right when they open will be enough, but it's better to be safe than sorry. 2) FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVE. Once they do open, one of their employees will bring out a clipboard that you can put your names onto. Once this is list is full they will not take anyone else for that day. The struggle is quite real. 3) BRING YOUR CHECKBOOK (but you can purchase money-orders). It's just easier if you have this with you so that you won't have to get in another line, but it's up to your own personal preference or if you have checks on-hand. 4) MAKE A PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR IDENTIFICATION CARD. Not sure if minors need this, but this was my first time getting my passport as an adult and the employee asked me if I had a copy of my California ID...which I didn't. They can make a copy for you, but this is at an additional charge of 50cents. So if you don't have a photocopier, bring coins or an extra dollar so you can get this done. 5) YOU CAN GET YOUR PASSPORT PHOTOS DONE HERE. Not sure how much they cost, but it's possible if you don't have time to do it elsewhere. However, if you really want to save some money and you have a Costco Membership this can save you a good amount! I took mine at the Costco nearby and was able to get 4 photos for around $4.99. 6) As far as I'm concerned, the SL Main Post Office DOES NOT offer any appointments for passports, but other locations might but word around the street is those appointments especially for the offices opened on the weekends fill up fast. 7) Be Patient! - Group consensus? No one likes to wait. No one wants to come in super early, but the best thing you can do for yourself is to be patient and just wait your turn. Sometimes you'll be lucky enough to be able to talk to those around you and have good conversations! This was the case for me and my mom! However, I understand not feeling like it or just not wanting to ESP since it's early morning so bring in your headphones or some reading material or make sure your battery on your phone is on full-charge so you can browse the internet or play whatever games you have on there. FYI - they only have one employee handling these passport related matters, which is why it probably goes slow some days or faster on others. It also depends on what each individual or group needs or if they have any questions. This may also be why if you call....sadly no one picks up. tldr; GET HERE EARLY, BRING CHECKS & PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR STATE ID OR SOME COINS TO GET THAT DONE AND YOUR APPLICATION + PHOTOS. read more

This rating is purely for their passport services. The person who processes them, Thu Lan, is extremely unfriendly and slow. I walked in for "walk-in" service to get my passport for my 18M old son. We had everything completed because we had already gone earlier in the day at another location. We only had to come back because we didn't know minors required both parents present. Thu Lan denied us and proceeded to tell us that if we wanted the walk in service that we had to be there before 9 am. I told her that no where on the website or customer service did it state that and that negated the entire point of having walk in service hours. She simply stated over and over again that was the policy. I told her that wasn't the policy, rather it was just "her policy." It's not walk in service to be there before 9 am when the passport services doesn't even begin till 9 am! Her coworker out in the main lobby even told me that she still had time and that she didn't want to. The lady advised me to call the supervisor and speak to someone. I am utterly embarrassed that she is a fellow government employee. This is why USPS is going out of business and government employees get a bad reputation. She is the utmost example of a lazy, rude, and an unfriendly employee. If you see this woman, be prepared because you will not receive any kind of service. She is so vain and knows that people walking in there have no other choice but to have her help them. read more

Terrible. One of their front desk workers held a package from me twice! I had to call and be on the phone with a manger while I was in their Postal store to verify that the package was there. When the manager on the phone confirmed it, the woman working the front desk kept denying it. Then the manager who I was on the phone with put me on hold, and literally handed it to me herself! This review is for applying/renewing passports. 1. My sister came to renew her passport a week before I did (4/20) and my dad got there at 5:30am to wait in line just to put her name down on the list. She was #3 and she didn't get out of there till 1pm. 2. I got there around 8:30am on 4/27 and was #11 on the list. I didn't leave until 12:30pm. They only have 15 spots/day. I had everything I needed with me and it literally took the lady less than 10 minutes to process everything. 3. I had to apply for a passport since mine expired when I was under 16 y/o. Make sure you fill out the correct form and bring all necessary documents and copies. I brought birth certificate, drivers license, copies of both, old passport, the application, and a checkbook. 4. They don't take card or cash so bring a checkbook. You'll make one out to "US Department of State" for $110 and another to "US Postal Service" for $25 and fees if they have to make copies of your documents because you didn't. 5. Bring snacks and water, but don't drink too much water because they don't have bathrooms! 6. Seriously, get here early!!!!!!! read more

My daughter turned 18 so we needed to get her adult passport in person. I searched around for a painless passport acceptance office in the East Bay to no avail. Pretty much all the reviews for all the post offices were terrible. The San Leandro PO was near some other errands and no appointments required so we bit the bullet and went. We got there around 12:20 on Monday. We figured it was a bad time as it was lunch time. Here you put your name on a list and wait. We were #5 so we figured at least 3-45 minutes. So, we ran over to Walmart to run a quick errand and was back in 20 mins. Finally around 1:30 we were called. The lady who handled our passport was real nice. 5 stars for her. Downgraded 2 stars for the long wait and for some little brats running around screaming while their parents ignored them. Not the PO's fault, but still an annoying wait. Overall, it was much better than I feared. TIP: The office says it closes at 3, but the lady came out at 1:30, went over the list, crossed off whoever wasn't there and told the last person on the list they were the last one and handed them something that says they're last. So, anyone not there at roll call or if you come after 1:30 you're SOL. read more

I went to complete a new application for a passport for myself, husband and two children. Arrive early! Lobby opens at 5am. I was first in line around 5:30am other people started lining up around 6:30am. This varies during peak hours. Always arrive early if you want to be seen first. A lady brought out the sign in sheet around 7am and that's when I put my name down. I went home and came back with my kids and husband around 8:30am to wait for my name to be called(they open at 9am). By 8:30 there were already 6+ people signed up to be seen. Bring your own pictures. I took them at Costco $5 a person. Fill out your application CORRECTLY ahead of time. Saves lots of time. Processing an application takes 15 minutes each person. I was called in at 9:10 and was out by 9:40 because I was prepared. Staff was nice and efficient! read more

This is the least crowded post office I've ever been to. I didn't even have to wait in line. It has a huge parking lot and several staff. I went at noon, thinking it would be a nightmare, as I've done that before at other post offices and there are usually quite a few other patrons, as well as only 1 or 2 staff since they're on lunch breaks. Who knew being rude and completely unpleasant was a requirement to work here? I was expecting a package. My boyfriend was home and ready to receive it. They arrive, didn't even know and left with my package. I tried calling back, but I kept getting hung up on. Turns out every single one of these poor reviews are correct. Place worse than DMV. If at all possible, avoid this office like the plague. Visit at your own risk, as the employees are radioactively rude and you may return home with 4-stage brain cancer. Passport service here was easy a painless... they take walk ins but make sure you are there bright and early because it gets pretty crowded for passport service... as long as you have your paperwork filled out properly and all of your supporting documents ready to go you can be in and out in about 15 minutes once you meet with the passport agent... we were able to take our pictures there for an extra fee, she packed all of the paperwork for us and the service was friendly and speedy... Wow! I should have read the other reviews before I attempted to get my passport application processed here. Everyone has pretty much said it already. Got there right at 9am. Office didn't open until 9:10. Sign in sheet has a handwritten note that says "no passport photos taken here." No one reads that small sign! Everyone is in a hurry to just to sign their name to the wait list. It would have been nice if the lady who was passing the clipboard along to clearly mention that. OR at least post a sign that says: "CAMERA Broken. You must have your own photo ready." She told a few people before me that it would be about an hour wait. WRONG! About 3 hours. On the website, it says that this location does take passport photos. The lady handling the passports said that the camera has been broken for months. So basically...I got there 9:10...and was called in at 12:30pm to be told that they couldn't take my photo. Waste of 3 hours that could have been avoided with a simple sign in the lobby. Everyone who walks in is confused bc there are no clear instructions on how the waiting game works for passport applications. There needs to be a sign!!! Anyways....i called around. IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME AND SANITY, READ THIS PART: Go to City of Alameda City Clerk Office, 2263 Santa Clara Ave. Alameda, CA, 9am-3pm. I arrived there at 1:15pm and was greeted and helped right away by two friendly guys. NO WAIT. I was out in less than 10 minutes. Paid a $50 fee to the City Clerk for processing and photo. Time & money well spent. Why don't people know about this place? The post office seems to be the first stop for passport processing. I guess that's why the clerks there aren't very friendly and organization sucks bc there are sooo many people waiting. It's not a welfare office. We are paying for service. Their service is aweful. Waiting line is very long and the service is SUPER SLOW. Every one else seems to be okay except that Asian lady. I am not discriminate her because I am Asian as well. She is rude and always pretend she was helping her employees instead of the customer standing right in front of her. And that is the reason why there is a long line. Not sure what's going on with the San Leandro postal service. Missing mail, stolen mail, packages are not delivered but tracking says they are. I believe it's time to clean out the postal employee trash. The postal service was an honorable institution at one time. This does not seem to be the case in San Leandro California. Handed three boxes w pre paid labels to the woman behind the counter and she handed me a receipt. Eleven days later and my items still haven't been delivered. Website doesn't mention anything. Retailer hasn't confirmed my return. There were tons of people waiting for passport services. Huge mistake to use this post office. You would think shipping a few boxes with pre paid labels is easy considering she didn't even have to weigh and place labels on my boxes! My boxes did make it to its location. I had to call and ask for a manager to get an update on the location. He was nice but I will stick to my usual post office from now on. read more

This review is based on the Postmaster for this location "Mrs. Scott." I'll try to keep my complaint short for y'all. Basically I moved and mail continued to come to my old address even though we filled out the Change of Addy form. We told her about it and she wrote all our info down and said "I'll call you tomorrow, even though it's my day off and get this taken care of." She also said since we no longer live close, that she "didn't want us driving way out here just to get our mail. I'll mail you your mail if I have to." I think she was just showing face because there was a long line of people at the time. Anyway, we NEVER heard from her and had to drive back to San Leandro to get more mail from our OLD address. On this same day, I physically went up there and had to talk to the supervisor about it. Why?!? when we filled the paperwork out? So we've been sending packages to the Union City post office, and this post office tells me that 1 business card with tracking is $3 something? When I've been sending same exact packages and postage with 6 stamps at the Union City post office nearly everyday with no trouble.
