At the counter, the clerk was friendly and helpful. When I mentioned what was inside my package, he kindly added "Fragile" stickers to the box without hesitation, which I really appreciated. I prefer this location over the one on the west end, especially because the parking situation here is much easier and more convenient.

I had mailed several of these envelopes at other Oakland post offices this month and I've never been asked to fill the forms out myself. There was no one else in the room other than my husband and me, so it wasn't like they were busy. But okay, fine, I went over the table she indicated and didn't know which forms I was supposed to choose, and I didn't have my glasses, so I picked out two and filled them in. Went back to the window, and she said sharply, "NO! the xyz form!" I didn't know what on earth she meant, so I said, "fine, I'll just go somewhere else." Realizing that I didn't have time to drive to another post office, I went back inside. By now, there was a line. My husband went up to her window and asked which forms I needed, and she barked at him, too. Then she started yelling at me, and I yelled back, and it was a totally awful scene, I've never lost my temper in public in my life, but here I was, this crazy 78-YO lady shouting across the room in the post office. But if you need window service, prepare for waiting in line. Sometimes the line is so long, you might think it's a "free cheese" giveaway. I avoid the place. I try to do everything online on the USPS website. Now, there was or is a clerk there that's strict and grouchy. If your USPS forms aren't filled out right, you need to go redo it ! Which actually isn't a bad thing, because you're holding up the line. In fact, she was someone's date at my high school reunion. She was friendly and nice to talk to. They should have a self-service kiosk in the lobby.

You also need a number, which I recommend picking up right when the post office opens at 8:30. Got there at 8am and was third in line. Get there any later and you're likely waiting all day. The people who run the passport office are nice and friendly. I just can't believe this is the process to get a passport in 2016. My advice: the earlier you get there, the better. Good luck!
