This is the best post office in Oakland IMHO. There is free parking, a drive through mail drop off, the staff inside are very nice and helpful and it's never all that crowded. This post office is far and above so many others (41st street-home of the most miserable employees on earth. Montclair-doesn't open until they feel like it..) that I have been to in Oakland. Came to this location the customer service , attitudes and atmosphere was amazing !!! Came and asked for a passport application and was promptly assisted with a beautiful smile !! Just went to the one by the airport off pardee drive or something like that and the service was terrible. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION and the one on MacArthur in the 80s ! read more

This USPS location is just like any other one. Long lines at certain hours, nobody really wants to be there, but everybody kinda has to. Workers there are all friendly (friendlier than at many other post offices in this city, that's for sure!), but it's an absolute pleasure whenever Paul is around. He is one of the most cheerful, helpful and friendly USPS employees I have ever met. Very convenient and good service. It's a popular location, so it gets super busy (especially during the holiday season).

This post office has some room for improvement in layout - the entry from the parking lot isn't well signed, and the doors are confusing. People are always going out the "in" doors - and acting like the other person (usually me) is there just to hold the door for them. *ahem* really?? The parking lot is small but that's not a problem for me - but there's a bit of competition. There always seems to be a line here - I haven't had to wait in line here - usually I am just dropping off packages or picking up priority mail supplies (they have plenty!). YMMV - standard Post Office with nothing out of the ordinary. read more

The lines are always super long at this Post Office so be aware. I go to any Post Office with my phone fully charged so I can keep occupied. There always seems to be an open parking spot even though the lot isn't big. I tend to go to the main Oakland Post Office on 7th even though it's much farther. read more

The manager, Maria, at the High Street P.O. fraudulently refuses to have mail delivered to my home in Oakland. She says that a friend I have living there has to prove that he has a disability (?). He's 89 yrs old and just broke his hip and is in rehab. She also says my mailbox is inaccessible but it is clearly accessible attached to my garage door and visible from the street. She also gives other fraudulent excuses saying my home is vacant which it absolutely is not since it has been my principle residence since I bought it in 1989. I've complained in person several times but she's never there. What do I need to do to have my mail delivered. Can anyone help me? My phone # is 408-370-3235. This best customer service I have received ever from a supervisor! The back story... my mail and packages have not been delivered for two days. The mail just did not run! I know your asking then how did they get 5 stars, keep reading its coming. I called the office number listed on google and the manger Dave answered the phone. He explained there were issues with the office and mail may not have been delivered and my packages were not there. He assured my mail would be delivered today and to call back if no package is delivered. (Keep reading it's coming i promise) I did get mail but no package! I called back and Dave answered again. He tracked down my package at another post office and personally delivered it to my door! That is amazing customer service! I'm blown away and feel a little bad about telling Amazon to stop sending my packages through USPS. read more

I've shipped two packages in 3 years from this location. Both "disappeared" (i.e. were stolen) before they ever left Oakland.

This one is pretty close to my house and fairly spacious. No need to talk through a bullet proof window here! Nonetheless, there's a nice drive thru for drop offs and they have a pretty good selection of stamps and such plus a little "island" to write in whatever needed on your envelopes. Main thing is you gotta catch them at a good time or else it'll definitely be a pain. read more

In comparison to other post offices I've had to visit, this place is lovely. It definitely has a neighborhood feel to it, and on more than a few occasions I've overheard folks in line chatting with each other to pass the time. The employees are helpful and friendly and the last time I was here (last Saturday) the clerk behind the counter had slow jams playing on a radio on the back counter and it added a relaxing sort of comfort to the whole chore of having to go to the post office in the first place. -The entrance to the parking is way too narrow. -Parking in general haven't been a major problem. Only problem I have is when I'm trying to back out of the parking space and impatient drivers from the drop-off mail don't know how to wait. -The lines here are way to damn long. Especially after 3pm. -For the most part, the service here has been fine minus the chinese lady who doesn't know how to smile like the vietnamese lady. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Biggest issue is poor signage to the customer entrance, which you cannot see from the road. Park in the lot and then walk all the way to the back, where you'll see a sign pointing to the right. Look for a sidewalk tucked in the corner between two fences. They have a self-service station to weigh your package and calculate postage, but the stamp machine is not there, so you'll need to bring stamps or buy some at the counter. read more

I have ordered from two places that I have in the past and all of a sudden the postal service carrier cannot find my address. Event though they have before. No on is available to answer calls at this location. I am very frustrated. They are holding two of my packages and have not made another attempt to re-deliver. I loved writing letters as a kid/teenager, & still try to send out annual winter holiday cards. I like getting non-junk mail. So, I thought the USPS was great! Bthe way, this review isn't necessarily specific for this site, except that they serve my area. However.... The service that I get at my house currently is subpar. My magazines, catalogs, & journals are often just left under the doormat or sticking out of the mailbox. Hello, when it rains, all of that gets damaged, plus with items sticking out of the mailbox, other mail inside gets wet when it rains! I'm NOT HAPPY about this at all. I really think if you tried, you could get my mail to fit into the mailbox (which is a slot in the wall next to my front door), seeing as I do retrieve my mail every day. Yes, I have wet journals & magazines (that I might actually want to read) & some wet mail today. This isn't the first time it's happened, but pretty much whenever it rains, but today was the first day it had rained for quite some time. If I'm ever missing any important mail (bills, etc.), I'm going to be royally pissed. Other places I lived had locking boxes, so this was not an issue until my current place. This is my post office. i have never had any problems with the staff. or the service. The lines are sometimes long but the mainnproblem is the folk in line doing whatever they are going to do regarding mailing something somewhere and many are not prepared to fill out the necessary paperwork. I chat with all the postal workers and find them engaging. but then everyday I choose to have a good day even when all hell breaks loose. iMaybe folk chould check their attitudes at the door before going into the post office! how about that! read more

Are we talking about the same place? The postal workers at High St 94619 are some of the sweetest postal workers I've met. MUCH kinder and willing to help than those I've encountered at Fruitvale. If you go weekdays mid-morning or early-afternoon there are typically no more than 2-3 people in line. MUCH faster service than Grand Lake. read more

I have had a terrible experience with this post office. I paid for a post office box 2 months ago when the representative told me I had to wait for a key I was hesitant but she insisted the key would be ready the next day, and that if I didn't get the PO box then I might not be able to get one at all. I felt pushed into paying for it, because I really needed it. I came back twice within a week after that, taking time off work because they insisted the key would be ready the following day. After that I called, and a very nice lady picked up and they told me they would call me when my key was ready. I still have not received my key, and they returned the mail that was sent to my PO box address. If you care about receiving your mail and receiving service that you paid for do not use this location. read more

I go the first time they could not find my package, I get a new card in the mail the next day to pick up my package..... It's all about the drive-up-able mail drop off. Sure the parking lot is kind of small and it can get crowded every once in a while, but the way they have that little loop for you to drop-off your mail and get back out is awesome. read more

Maybe I was spoiled. You see, I once lived in a small city in southern Indiana...where the post office staff were actually efficient, helpful and HUMAN! Alas, I've had three experiences with the staff at this location and each time I've been amazed at their lack of energy and engagement. Perhaps it is because they deal with so many terse and angry customers? Each time I've been in the facility, they've had twenty to thirty people in line. Consequently, most patrons are angry by the time they reach the window...there are even angry exchanges between customers, re: who should be assisted first!? At any rate, the wait is always interminable ...At any rate, by the time I get to the window, I am so stressed...knowing there are nineteen people glaring at my back, that I often forget half the transactions I want to complete. My focus is to spend a minimal amount of time at the window as possible. Yikes. People talk about the postal workers having short fuses...what about their customers?! I don't know about the post offices in Chicago...I haven't found iany, yet. But, I do know that I love, love, love my local UPS store. That said, I suggest all Laurel residents find their local UPS store and bypass the stress and strain of this place. Kudos to the poor, overworked postal workers...keep your head down and hopefully, your management will see/hear your plea! read more

FYI I stopped by the high st. post office to purchase a roll of stamps today (Tuesday 1:15PM). I was told that a roll of stamps was not available due to manager not available to provide the stamps. There is a reason why people hate USPS. I brought my wedding invitations here, which I slaved over for months hand making, and wanted to be hand cancelled so that they don't get eaten up by the machines, or at the least not get the ugly markings. I was more than happy to pay for the extra service and stamp them myself, but they didn't have the stamp and asked me to "write" on the invitations "hand cancel". I was confused why that would work but did it anyway per their instructions. Guests received these in crumbled conditions with the machine marks anyway. I would have gladly gone somewhere else if they had just told me they wouldn't do it. Lying is such a crappy thing to do with something that means so much to others. read more

They stubbornly refuse to listen to federal law and print in their own postal service rule book. Packages marked as "Free Matter for the Blind" means just that --FREE. They even went so far as to reluctantly accept my package of Braille Books only to return right back to me through the mail! Read your rules.
