This the small Post Office on Webster St near Central Ave. Yeah, the one with no parking. It's ok if you just need to drop your mail or a small package. But if you need window service, prepare for waiting in line. Sometimes the line is so long, you might think it's a "free cheese" giveaway. I avoid the place. I try to do everything online on the USPS website. Now, there was or is a clerk there that's strict and grouchy. If your USPS forms aren't filled out right, you need to go redo it ! Which actually isn't a bad thing, because you're holding up the line. In fact, she was someone's date at my high school reunion. She was friendly and nice to talk to. They should have a self-service kiosk in the lobby. read more

Went to the Webster street post office today. It was supposed to open at 9am. At 9:15, it was still closed and there were no employees visible. The lobby was not open. And they removed the mailboxes that used to be in front. Considering that there are people who want to mail packages for the holidays, this is definitely not customer friendly. read more

The employee here who helped me figure out how to do a complex mailing was an angel. He had all the information at his fingertips about the subtleties of certified mailing and took the time to explain all of it. Parking can be a little tricky at this little post office. It sits right on one of the main retail streets in Alameda, Webster Street. Parking is metered out front and rarely available. There are a zillion businesses nearby that compete for those spaces. I usually end up parking on Central Avenue, which is 1 block away. Or just going residential in the streets to the south. read more

When a USPS employee in a company van is waiting along with customers to get inside 15 minutes after they are supposed to be open, that's not a good sign. For two days this week, this location has opened their doors late, and not just a little late either. I waited for over half an hour before I gave up and drove to the other location. It must be great to work for the government... You can set your own hours, be late without repercussions due to short staffing. read more

The few times that I have been here the efficient service has diminished. There is one postal clerk serving the public and one functioning computer. The lines are longer, which means the wait is longer. Why? Thanks to the government bureaucracy that things are moving slow compared to over two years ago. I can't say which is worse - waiting in line at the DMV or at USPS. Here I am in line typing this review. I am not even at the window being served. That's all I have to say now. SMH!!! This came in my mail box. This other piece of mail was delivered on purpose. This is what blackmail looks like. My neighbors have been doing way to much. I guess someone wants me to no how good they got it. How much is being controlled. But the funny part is this other person's mail was not in my box. This has been on going with my neighbors enjoying using my mailbox for mail and deliveries. Especially Amazon...How is this piece of mail at 62nd Ave, but not delivered here. Walked in with a prepaid label and my box on Saturday 1:47pm to purchase tape and leave my box to be shipped. The girl behind the counter (African American girl about 20-30 years old) decided to tell me I need to have my stuff ready in 2 minutes. I told her I needed to purchase tape and she proceeded with attitude to make a noise and shake her head. I said don't you have to get through the line for me to purchase tape I can't just cut everyone and so she proceeded to say you know what you can go to a different location I'm not going to help you. First of all you don't close until 2pm you need to get through your line (there was about 3-4 people besides me), whatever line that forms before 2pm. Well you don't have to be rude about it. I walked into the post office. There were some customers filling out paperwork so I walked up to the counter and waited for help. A woman who worked there saw me twice from the back room. She was talking to another worker for a couple minutes so I just waited patiently. After several minutes went by one of the workers came out and told me they weren't open. The tone she used was pretty rude. She told me to go to the main office. A suggestion I have: Put a closed sign on the window so folks see it when they walk up for help. read more

The Automated Postal Machine is a good idea but I want 2 cent stamps only. Therefore I have to stand in line like every other ham & egger in Alameda. When I walked in the line was long but when I stood behind the one person in line at the APM it got smaller by the time I realized that there were not 2 cent stamps available. I do not like standing in lines for anything. It went fairly fast because they actually had 4 people at the counters. Which is rare at most post offices. I remember post offices having APM's with more than just the current postage available. What happened to those? It was really convienient. And when you payed in cash and you got change back the money would come out and it would sound like a slot machine going off. USPS, getting less efficient as the years go on. read more

The carriers here keep delivering my packages to my neighbor in the front apt, even though i have my apt # on the package. If it shows delivered but i didn't get it i know my neighbor kept the package from Amazon, this time i got the package and it was opened and i guess they didn't like the salt i ordered so they decided to bring it to my door. Inconsistent policy here. I was charged $40+ for an USPS flat rate box shipment to an APO address. I tried to tell the lady that it's supposed to be a flat rate and box is free per website but she said each office has their own rules. I thought they were federal agency. Husband handed a package to Usps personnel around 2pm on the Thursday the 2nd of August. It did not get logged as "accepted" in the system until Monday the 6th. This resulted in a $155 late fee for the return of an expensive rental dress. Shame on us for not getting a receipt I guess. Ridiculous. read more

I dropped off an urgent international package 2 weeks ago. It only just now (2 weeks later) showed up as being entered into the system. (I had to pay $117 to FedEx to express ship this, because I thought it was lost.) I had requested a refund when I first thought it was lost. I hate to write this review but the horrible customer "service" here needs to addressed. Every time I go, the female employees give me attitude. You walk in and their on their phone or chatting with one another while I'm waiting to be helped. I always want a receipt for my items and they act so annoyed to provide it. I walk away here in a bad mood from the LACK of quality service and respect. I understand it's hard to work in customer service but geez if you're gonna have this attitude with people, find a new job because the public doesn't deserve this treatment. I rarely leave bad reviews but I was so mad about the incident today. My package mailed back to my address because of underpaid postage I purchased online from third party. I went to USPS to pay the difference but however, this young African American lady would not let me allow me to do so. She said she cannot let me do it here and I have to do it online. She is super rude and her Service is super bad. Plus she raised her voice at me because I was questioning about other options. I don't understand why you not able to pay difference here since it is USPS postage. Turns out you are able to pay for short-paid postage because I went to different location. Wasted all my time back and forth and her service is unacceptable. I don't know how USPS train their employees but with this type of attitude and NO knowledge, she SHOULD not work in customer service. I will try to avoid this location going forward. read more

Just wondering because I have about FIVE, like the fingers on your hands, notes placed on my front porch with instructions on where to leave packages WHICH IS NOT ON MY FRONT PORCH yet you still leave them anyway!! WTF is wrong with you??? No more gift cards at Christmas for you-I can't afford it with having to replace items stolen by porch bandits. Half the time I'm home but you don't even knock anymore. Overall, they're staffed with knowledgeable & friendly people. Sometimes there are glitches but the staff is receptive to feedback. Even with the push by the GOP and their private interests attempting to "dismantle" our national postal system and the ridiculous gas-lighting done by Cheeto, the USPS keeps finding ways to bring in revenue--partnering with businesses like Amazon and other internet businesses, for example. Don't do postal business here, the employees are lazy - long lines are expected. If you have a PO Box expect a backlog of mail. It's frequent that I find disgruntled employees arguing with customers with valid service concerns. Don't expect 3 to 5 days turnaround time if you are collecting mail at this location. Employees here cannot simplify or prioritize work are easily distracted and have a tendency to be in the back sorting area on their phones. One girl who works there for awhile is the exceptional standout. She's nice and can single-handedly hold down the shop herself; she deserves the one star I've rated this place. She's very professional and probably not paid what she's worth. For best customer satisfaction and piece of mind, I recommend the post office at South Shore. read more

This is the worst situation that could happen to someone traveling. The day before your trip you find out your passport recently expired. It happened to me recently, I woke up on a Friday and saw my passport had expired and I had to travel out of the country (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico) the next day. Uh oh...stress alert. I went to the Alameda post office and the associate handling passports gave me an address in San Francisco to have a passport expedited on the same day. Plus he was able to shoot some passport pictures so I did not have to find a passport photo location. Five stars for excellent customer service. read more

I got to this post office just before it closed after work and walked through the door only to be told by a woman who said her name was Cecilia and she was a lead sales specialist that because it had just turned 5pm that they were now closed and they could not help me. This was despite the fact that I had walked in just before closing and there was only one person ahead of me in line. The clerk, Miguel, helped the person ahead of me in line but would not help me. I told them that I had just walked 20 minutes to get there and did not have a car to drive to Nob Hill as they suggested and were they absolutely sure they could not help me. They said no. I left and Cecilia proceeded to smirk at me through the door while I vented to someone outside the post office. ** This review was meant to be for the Shoreline Drive branch. ** I went to this post office two days before Christmas with the full expectation of entering a madhouse, but what I found was a congenial group of people enjoying the coffee and cookies provided by the staff, and exchanging pleasantries to pass the time in line. That's so Alameda. I liked the review that compared this post office to one in Manhattan. I have stood online for literally hours in New York, so I appreciate the humor. They have a sign in New York post offices that reads: "Courtesy is contagious." Apparently postal workers took that to mean they should avoid it like the plague. Not so in Alameda, though. The staff at this post office has always been both courteous and helpful. Hey, they made coffee and cookies for Christmas, what more do you want? Every time I go in here I am surprised at how friendly the employees are. Yeah, there is usually only one at any given time but they can't help that. Sometimes there is no line, other times its 10 people deep. I would rather wait in line for 3 hours here than go to the Shoreline facility where they are rude and slower than molasses. Wow, some bad reviews here! I've never had a bad experience at this PO... The one lady I seem to all ways end up getting behind the counter seems kind of abrasive at first, but then you realize she's just fiery like that. Never any sort of line when I go, either. It's basically your standard (kinda run down looking) post office.. pretty small... with the usual mailboxes outside. So yeah, I think this location is A-OK. Went in there at about 3 PM and there was no line whatsoever. The worker was helpful and super quick with my return.

Love the little kiosk, except when there are newbies at the machine trying to ship out their too large haz mat packages ;p I try to avoid the tellers, just because it is painful slow because everyone seems to have special packages. Tonight, I had to ship some stuff to friends and I got in at 5:55. A very pleasant woman ignored my self-made packaging and shipped my item with little hassle. She finished sending off my 3 packages and as the lights were shut off, I signed my credit card slip and I was off into the night. Whenever possible, use the kiosk. Don't use the kiosk if you are going to use delivery confirmation, though, as you'll pay for it, but you still have to go to the counter. Kind of counterproductive. Have never seen a disgruntled worker there... they all seem pretty gruntled. read more

You will wait in line forever for the ONE clerk working there and when it is their break time, they will take a break and close their window no matter how many people are in line with no back up person to cover for them!
