Lives up to its abbreviation: USPS = Unbelievably Slow Postal Service. I've been here many time where there was a long line first thing in the morning and no employees here until well after 9:00. Any time you show up its pretty slow. They are under-staffed, but also pretty slow with service compared to other places. They never seem to be in a rush (and oblivious when customers are obviously in a rush). They also don't have a self-serve option. I don't give many 1 and 2 star ratings m. This is really earned. I now prefer to pay slightly more to go elsewhere and save much time and frustration. read more

My fiance and I went here to get our passports. We go in there and a family who didn't do any planning or research for their passports and renewals were in front of us being explained everything. The woman helping them didn't say a word to us when they left and just walked off. A guy dressed like he was just waking up from a nap after chicken wings and a football game came up to the counter but didn't look us in the eye AT ALL, didn't say hello, just shoved his hand out for our paperwork. He didn't speak to us except to tell us what to do when taking our picture, didn't know how to operate the photocopy machine so grumbled and stomped off to make photocopies of our DLs elsewhere, still without communicating with us. I thought we were ghosts about to have our DLs stolen. Just about any US Post Office is good for one thing: a box in which to receive your mail. The employees leave much to be desired. read more

This location is really good about understanding what you need without asking you multiple times. The line is sometimes long but they go relatively fast, unlike the main branch office at South Shore. The bad thing about this location is the lack of parking, its metered street parking so you have to work to get a parking spot, and the hours are different than most government official buildings and the main office. It would be a good idea to check the hours before visiting this location but when you do, definitely worth it. There is also a selection of envelopes, wrapping, packaging needs for sale in case you are sending things that are in need of these things. read more

One postal clerk, she is very nice and doing her best so this isn't about her service. She is one person who has to handle all the people who come through this location. It is SLOW SLOW SLOW SLOW SLOW Is it too hard to place a machine in this location? I can buy my own stamps, weigh my packages and do a bunch of things myself. I dont' want to wait in line for 30 minutes to buy stamps or weigh large envelopes so that I can figure out the correct postage. read more

This review is concerning the post office's policies and operations. We moved to Alameda on Nov. 20 to the new development in the Grand Marina. To date (3 months after move-in) we still do not get any mail delivered to our community mailbox, which means we have to pick up our mail in person at the post office. This wouldn't be such a problem if the hours were a little longer so that we could actually stop by after work, or not have to wait in line, explain our situation for the umpteenth time, and then wait again for the clerk to go back and find our mail, sort it, and then bring it to us... which can take upwards of 30 min. each instance. We have made several requests asking the post office when we will start getting mail delivery. They are telling us that our community needs to be 75% homeowner occupied before mail can be delivered. This is simply unacceptable; our community is only in Phase II of a multi-phase development (our home was part of Phase I), and in order to reach the 75% homeowner occupied threshold, we will likely not get mail delivery for the better part of another year or more. This is an example of poor planning and policies on the part of the USPS. If this 75% threshold is true, then, as I mentioned before, it's ridiculous. If that's the case, then we should get a free PO Box to access our mail instead of having to wait in line to get our mail every time. By shifting the responsibility of mail delivery from a carrier to the post office branch, they're not just making the experience for the 8-10 families living at this development bad, but also for other Alamedans who visit the branch by creating another bottleneck and clogging up the system. It should be simple... get the mail carrier that delivers to the neighborhood a block away from ours to deliver our mail as well! read more

Have the USPS rates surged up? I mailed a 15" x 12" x 10" box, weighing 2 lbs., and they charged $51.80. Does that seem right? I can't recall ever having to spend that deal of money on a USPS package. I'll have to shift to going back exclusively to Alameda Mail Boxes Plus. read more

This location is just understaffed and over used. It is rare that I don't have to wait in line for at least ten minutes if I need to access the one person working the counter. (I have not ever seen both windows open) There also seems to be a surprisingly large number of people that visit who do not know how to use the internet, half of my wait times are consumed by people asking questions that could easily be found online. That said, the staff is perfectly friendly and shows the patience that only USPS works know. read more

It's a hidden gem. I like the fact that not many people know about this place, so it's really not that busy. They only have 2 windows, so at times, you might have to wait if the customers ahead of you have difficult issues, but for the most part, it's ok. Often only 1 person is working and the other is in the back doing something. Don't know what. It does get hot in there during the summer as it's an old building without a/c or fans. There's no free parking anymore (I think in the past there used to be, but not now). Street parking via coin meters unless you decide to park across the street in the strip mall or down the side streets in the residential neighbourhoods. The place is opened during business hours, but on Saturdays, they close window service I believe at 14.00hr or maybe 15.00hr, and then you will have to rush to go to the Main Post Office at South Shore. I'm kinda annoyed that this locale does not sell stamps via a machine like at the Main Post Office, and this means you often have to wait... but for the most part, I'm happy with this PO. I don't go that often anyways, so what's a few extra minutes if the line is longer... Just remember to feed the meter or you might end up with a parking ticket! read more

USPS needs to improve and getting their priority mail delivered in a timely manner domestic and international. USPS tracking system is useless in keeping track on priority and Express mail. The wait times are completely unreasonable. Mailing something often takes a half hour, whether there are 10 people in line or two. There is almost always only one window open. I have left multiple times before making it to the window out of frustration, including yesterday when I waited 25 minutes and gave up when there were still 5 people in line in front of me. I have seen many other people leave as well. People are always complaining in the line. I am changing the PO box I have there so I never have to deal with this nonsense again. read more

The customer service isn't good. When I call the Station they always put me on hold for a long time. The person has no patient to talk, she is always in rush when helping you. Stressful experience. I went to renew my passport and was amazed at how easy it was and how pleasant. One stop -- they take your picture, process the forms and mail it out for you. In and out in under 30 minutes. Sofia was at the desk -- she should get an employee of the year award. Courteous, efficient, really nice and she kept things moving! read more

For a government office and being a post office I assumed the usual long line and smug employees. Well I was wrong. There was a line, yes. But, it moved very quickly. To my suprise, the employees were very kind. There's never a lot of people working at one time but they manage it well. Now they have the APS (Automated Postal Center). Weight your packages, pay & buy stamps all without standing in a long line. I love it. You can use it 24/7 at your own leisure. Now if only I could get the Pittsburg office to do the same. read more

FAIL WRITTEN ALL OVER THIS PLACE! I had a major package coming to me, and these morons (Yes, I called them this) lost my package instead of knocking on my door when I was there the day of arrival... Instead, they decided to place a Delivery Notice/Reminder/Receipt in my mailbox, again, not knocking on my door... The next day when I got there, there was no information on my item being there. The ticket was invalid and had no recollection of where the package was... I asked to speak with a supervisor, and the lazy supervisor (after talking with the clerk) was leaving... An F+++ for customer service, and instead of taking the extra FEW seconds to speak with their customer, they leave for home (only working for a pay check I presume... ---Fire status approval please!). Low and behold I will make it a point to take my postage services elsewhere, UPS, FED EX... This place has FAIL written all over it. As for my package? It's lost in transit, or the mail clerk decided to take it home for her personal pleasure. Management=FAIL and SHOULD BE FIRED! Clerks= RUDE and NOT RESPECTFUL TO CUSTOMERS. This Webster branch is my neighbourhood post office, and I'll review its service at the end of this review. I am far more concerned about the OVERALL POSTAL SERVICE in ALAMEDA. Since moving here in February 2015: on several occasions, mail I have sent has been completely lost, or have taken over two weeks to arrive at their (local) destinations (eg. to Oakland or to San Francisco). This includes personal letters as well as bill payments. It's as if random pieces will simply disappear into a postal black hole, and 'maybe' reappear much later in the system. I have never encountered such frustrating and worrying delays. And of course, when a check/payment simply disappears (or is two weeks late in arrival), one is: (1) penalised by the business for overdue payment (2) One must then cancel the original check, which incurs a charge at the bank. This has happened to me three times since February. Additional details: I drop my letters directly into the wall mail slot, which is INSIDE the actual post office. Is there a gap or flaw within this slot ? Or is the problem somewhere within the Alameda postal mail sorting system? Or is this due to a specific careless employee? As for the actual 'service'at this Webster Street post office branch: I too have noticed that there seems to be always a line at this post office (although I suspect that's not uncommon for post offices), BUT it's the only post office I've known which closes for lunch. I've lived in cities all my life however so perhaps this is commonplace practise for small towns. I can get use to this. It's far more exasperating when mail I've sent is repeatedly lost or substantially delayed. read more

it blows. i have gone in that place at least three times. all three times has been the same lady who doesnt seem to give A FUCK about keeping the line moving. It wouldnt be such a bad thing, but she is ALWAYS the only one working there. the last time i was in there, i was the next person in line, and there was this lady in front of me filling out all this paperwork regarding a PO box. now, most postal employees will have the person step off to the side and help the people behind them with more menial tasks, such as selling them stamps, or sending a box, but noOoOoO. this lady sat there with her thumb up her ass the entire time the patron was filling out what seemed like a novel. i was standing there for at least 25 minutes. meanwhile people were lined up behing me out the door. when i finally get up to the window, i am obviously peeved. i made a comment about why it took so long. the lady looked at me nonchalantly and said, "i am the only one here, what do you want me to do?" it's simple lady...you help the other people in line when a customer is obviously going take some time filling out tons of paperwork. on a side note -- i dont know what office my mail originates from (this is the closest to my house, so i apologize if i am reaming the wrong office), but i have never had worst mail service in my life. i am constantly getting mail for the next street over, and i always get mail for the people in apt A and B (i am in C). the worst example was a couple of weeks ago when i was getting out of the shower and i heard someone at the screen door. i dried off, went into the living room, and saw a bunch of mail on my floor. the mail man couldnt find the building's mailboxes (mush have been, yet another new person on our route) even though they are the first thing you see when you enter the complex, so he decided to to just shove all of the mail through the tear in the screen door. to make matters worse, none of it was my mail. it was all my neighbors' mail! asshole expected me to to distribute everyone's mail for him. read more

Sent a check certified mail. they lost it. would not refund my money nor cover the cost of the cancelled check. Janet from this office actually called me to try to find the phone number to the USPS office which would have been the last stop for this letter before being delivered. Did you hear that? She called ME asking for the phone number. Unbelievable. One hand does not talk to the other. Called the destination USPS office, went to what sounded like a fax machine. Called the 1 800 USPS number, they provided me the same number and referred me to customer realtions who did absolutely nothing. If this were a for profit company they would be decimated, obliterated by the competition. Also, Eddie from the Alameda office who is supposedly a supervisor sent me a letter saying "the customer is first, because we care. we have taken steps to prevent this from happening in the future, please call me so I can help" I called, and called, and left messages, he never returned my calls and his cryptic letter did not even tell me if the letter was actually lost or what. Really a total debacle. no wonder they lose BILLIONS of our tax payer dollars every year. Pathetic. Needs to be privatized. read more

I have had two packages listed as delivered that never were. One of those occasions I stayed home all day to receive it and no one ever came to my door. Some packages were delivered: thrown over my back fence into my back yard! I cringe when I find out that they are responsible for my package. My advice? Use Fed Ex. read more

This is the worst post office I have ever been to. The line is always snaking out the door, the clerks are rude, slow and generally unfriendly. I have tried to use the automated postal center they try so hard to push on us, and every time, it tells me to put stickers on the package. There are never any stickers around, so I end up standing in line anyways. Today, I was chastised for trying to re-use a box by turning it inside out. I am now boycotting this post office. 94502-ers unite! We need to get this place an upgrade!! read more

I try to lighten the mood by smiling or joking with the others stuck in purgatory with me, but the mood is typically a combination of gloom and anger. If you must do business here, plan on spending a second hour after you escape to decompress with a stiff drink at the Fireside, or some fresh air at Crab Cove. I go out of my way to visit this post office because it's so nice. (And then having gone out of my way, I'm there at South Shore Center with Trader Joe's and everything else, so it usually becomes IN my way.) The counter staff are pleasant and helpful, they have a good selection of pretty stamps, and the Automated Postal Center is the best. However, the APC doesn't seem to do media mail, so if you're mailing books you need to see the counter staff for the ultra-cheap rate. read more

Dropped off a package yesterday. Checked the tracking number last night and it doesn't even show it was received let alone in transit. Same today. Called the branch and was told "it's not scanned yet! OK!? OK! OK!" I asked why and he said "NOT SCANNED YET! OK!!!OK!!!!" Very rude! And why wouldn't it be scanned??? No reason to yell at customers if their English ability is limited. Won't be back again. Will use UPS. read more

They have a very convenient kiosk that lets you weigh and ship your boxes as well as buying stamps. I use this kiosk all the time to ship ebay items. This post office is pretty busy, but the line goes pretty fast...it really depends on how much help each customer needs. yes, its understaffed, but times are tough now. The workers there are very helpful and nice though. I choose this place over all the nearby postal centers. read more

I'll add my own voice to the chorus of "if you want to wait 20-30 minutes, this is your place." I've gone in the mornings, afternoons, weekends, it doesn't matter--always a line, always painfully slow. I guess there is little we can do since this is a result of budgets cuts, but I do find it astonishing that at no point can they call somebody up to help when the line is out the door. read more
