Limited hours. Check before going. Be sure to enter through the public entrance and not the employee entrance. You will be turned around if go into the wrong entrance. Its quite a process to get into here. Show your drivers license, remove keys/phone, place items through scanner, walk through body scanner. Walk to the side to collect your items and put things back in your pockets. Take the elevator on left down to basement , there's a fed ex and ups drop off box near elevator . You need to know three things about this post office, in the basement of the federal courthouse. First, the huge plus. There is never a line. I have patronized it for that reason. I have had no wait, ever. That's in maybe a dozen visits. That is not true of any other post office anywhere I have been. I mean: not once has there been more than one person in front of me, and I'd say most of the time I stroll in and it's empty. Second, the big minus. The reason for the lack of a crowd is the hassle to get into the building. You have to go through the metal detector. That isn't bad. Sometimes, however, there are folks lined up for other business. It is reasonably brisk. I'd say even adding that into the calculation, you are still better off in terms of time, if you are anywhere near this facility. Third, the hours. They are erratic. I am not 100% sure what you see posted here or elsewhere is accurate. I've been there, and the place has been closed, when I thought it was within their business hours. If it's closed, go to Fox Plaza. You can walk in 7-1/2 minutes. There, however, it's always a long line. That gives you a sense of the difference. read more

This is a tough one, but what has to be done has to be done. Ratings are as follows: 0 star = Security personnel/Check-in Process 2 stars = eerie location of the post office 3 stars = Customer service at post office 3 stars = Convenient location (near work) The security guys at this place are impatient a$$holes. I was appalled at their lack of everything: Communication skills, manners, common courtesy, common sense... I mean, I didn't expect much, but I really wasn't prepared for what I experienced. When you get there, they follow the same protocol as any airport TSA minus the boarding pass: (1) Show your ID (2) Empty your pockets and belongings onto a tray (3) Take off your shoes (4) Go through metal detectors Simple enough, but sadly there are no signs, they don't tell you anything and then they get upset when you look confused or dare I say it, ask a question. Mind you, all sorts of people come to this building so obviously, not everyone will get the hint the first time around. Luckily, for me I'm used to airports and since I saw others before me do what you're supposed to do, I figured it out. But here's what this prick asked me anyway as he took my ID: Prick: "Have you been here before?" Me: "No." Prick: "So do you know how things work?" Me (thinking, um...first time here jerk so sarcastically, I say): "Never been here, but I'm sure I got it." I was behind this poor older, Asian woman who seemed to understand English but obviously didn't speak it (or chose not to speak it). She was just doing the best she could and accidentally took in a baby nail clipper and got in trouble for it. Omg, what could she possibly do with a baby nail clipper?!!!! Then, while telling her to exit the building, this OTHER prick looked at me and assumed since I'm Asian, I must be with her. REALLY?! Not all Asians are related, jacka$$. My only regret? I should have stood up to their racist comments! After I made it through that Hell, I was told to take the elevator (that looks like a service elevator) all the way down to the basement. Then, you have to walk through a blue hallway where there's absolutely no signal or wifi and since it isn't busy, you find yourself walking by yourself. Once you get there, only one woman works the station. Although she handled things well, the system took almost half an hour to reboot! She's an honest woman so she didn't sugarcoat the truth, but at the same time I think she didn't have to be so forward. Fortunately for me, she reminded me of my crazy aunt so the exchange was quick and pleasant between us. Overall, if you could get past the punks at the front, you could pretty much handle anything else that comes your way. And if you want quick processing time (once the system works), she'll get it done. read more

The post office itself? 5 stars!!!! Getting to this post office? Way more trouble than it's worth!! You have to go through a metal detector to enter the federal building, remove your jacket and hat (omg - my hair was a disaster), find the correct elevator, then go down a very eerie hallway in the basement until you finally get to this cute little post office with a very nice woman behind the desk. Upside? There was not a line!! I don't remember the last time I went to a post office without a line!! I will say this, though, it's the most secure place to drop off a mailable item!! read more

One benefit about a post office in the federal building is that it discourages crowds from coming because of the security check out front. No crowds = no lines! No crowds = sole employee at the PO. This PO shuts down briefly from 3:00 PM - 3:15 PM so the lady can have her break. I came down here today to mail off my passport renewal. No lines and the lady explained what my options were in terms of mailing the renewal. It was quick and simple and easy. I find the Fed Bldg to be your grandfather's version of a dot comm company. There's a gym, a cafeteria and PO. Employees really don't need to leave the building for lunch because everything is inside! Security is tough since the Passport Agency relocated in the federal building. You have people lining outside the doors. I find the Marshals to be good guys. They are obviously stressed out having to deal with all the hoard that come in on the hour at the hour for their passports. Give them a break. They are doing their jobs and protecting the building from the fruit loops. read more

Came here because the 1390 Market St Fox Lobby location looked closed. So this is located at the basement of a federal court house. Being so I had to show ID, take out my wallet, belt, jacket and watch just to enter. The office itself was empty, maybe getting a couple walk ins a day from the people that work the building. read more

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... this place is a joke! If you've got a PO box and you've just stepped inside to pick up your packages then it's one story... my experience is a little differently based. I had a note on my door saying that I've had a package being held since June. It is now August 20th mind you. I try to go on a weekend since, like most adults, I work during the day Monday-Friday so it's impossible for me to show up during work hours. At first I think, isn't it the USPS's job to deliver packages? And by deliver, I mean try multiple times, not just once. Then I realize that it's just like everyone else, their just "doing their job". Anywho... I show up on a Saturday as the back of my note states that their office hours are from 10am-5pm on Saturday. 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. As I show up at 10:15am I notice the service window is still closed with a sign, located somewhere amongst their 32 other signs noting "Service Window Pick-ups are Monday-Friday". Oh well. I decide I'll take some morning time off and show up first thing at 9am on Monday morning. SO I do... I wait in line while an attendant leisurely rolls up the metal gate from the bulletproof window. He doesn't say one word to me while we stare each other down. I hand him my slip and he limps on back to the back room. About 4 mins later he appears box in hand and verifies my ID. I was happy to get my package (that I wasn't even expecting) so I open it up to find 2 used candle jars and some newspaper rolled up. This was obviously some kind of a joke. Then it hits me. I remember getting this package back in June. I threw it in the trash along with the candle jars that I had used to completion and wanted to throw away. The brilliant employees at USPS must have found my box in the trash, placed 3 strips of scotch tape on the front(not joking) and decided to mail it back to me. I cannot believe that our tax dollars are this hard at work. Thanks for delivering my trash. Oh wait, that's right... You asked me to come pick it up. read more

Came here on December 14th to mail three packages during the holiday rush. There was no line. Out in 5 minutes. Enough said.

So there's a post office in the basement of a federal building. Go figure. It is so nice to go to a post office without having to turn down the local drug dealer for intravenous drugs. Or step over the homeless lady's pit bull. Or smell pee. All you have to do is show some ID, pass through security, and find the place. Security is nice & helpful. On May 7, 2012, my income tax check was delivered to people in a different part of the building. The person in receipt of our check waited until we arrived home and gave us the check. The check was for over $6,000.00 We have attempted to contact the post office and render a complaint. However, even after informing two of the regular mail carriers, our mail still ends up in our neighbors boxes. We even received a confidential health care report. I wonder why we bother. Upon observing one day, I noted the male, mail carrier stopped reading the mail addresses to observe an ambulance going down the street. I watched him put my bank statement into another person s mailbox. I went to him and asked him to check, sure enough it was addressed to me and placed in another person s box. Neither he, nor the female carrier speak english very well. Either that or pretending not to comprehend english to get me out of their face, regardless: NO ONE IS PAYING ATTENTION TO THEIR JOB. The people in my neighborhood suffer for this. What do we need to do get people awake, on the job and not under the influence, selected as COMPETENT MAIL CARRIERS??? Working in the state building, I feel lucky to have a post office across the street. But I HATE going through the rigamarole of going through the security to get into the federal building and then navigating the basement to get there. But proximity wins out over convenience, so I go. I went today and there was a sign on the door that it was closed between 10:30 and 1:30 and after 3:30. I was pretty annoyed that I would have to reschedule my afternoon and then come back through security to mail my packages. As I was coming off the elevator, the woman who works at the post office, Corinne I think, was getting on the elevator. I asked if she was heading down now (it was just before noon) and she said that her schedule had been hectic because they needed her at another post office and she wasn't scheduled to open until 1:30. Then she did the unthinkable: she said to come on back down and she would take care of me then so I wouldn't have to come back! I realize that there was once a time when this kind of customer service wouldn't have batted anyone's eyes (especially from the post office!), but that time is long past and I am truly amazed and appreciative of this woman's kindness and level of customer service. this is actually the best place to mail packages during the holidays. maybe 3-4 people in line at the most. the person at the counter can be helpful if you get on her good side...she used to work at Fox Plaza as well as Doug at the Civic Center unit...they must put the burned out employees at these 2 locations...and it's obvious our government would rather have our postal service run into the ground and privatized! very sad... read more

I'm not even that sure if this is a real post office. It looks more like the mail room of the Federal Building. After going through security, the metal detector, and going through the maze of a basement, I finally found the "post office". I was the only person here, so I figured I could get in and out quickly. The lady saw me, didn't say anything to me, and continued organizing her letters and packages completely ignoring me. I politely smiled at her and said hi when she glanced over at me. I hardly got a reaction. When she finally came to the counter a good 2-3 minutes after I first arrived, she seemed rather complacent. I gave her the letter I wanted mailed, in which she quickly asked me if I wanted to mail it same day over night blah blah blah that would cost me $60. What?? No, it's a freakin letter! So I asked for first class. As she printed the first class postage for $0.65 (ya, huge difference), I asked her if I could add delivery confirmation. She told me it was impossible to do that as delivery confirmation only comes with Priority Mail. I've mailed every important document I've ever needed sent using first class with delivery confirmation, so she obviously had no idea what she was talking about. But I didn't feel like wasting any time with her since I was in a rush to get out of there and wasn't in a huge rush with my letter. So I paid my $0.65 and was on my way. But I'll never come here again. read more
