Level of incompetence continues. I was sent a package from England. Tracking says no one was home to sign for it, notice left. If only. No notice left. Then two days later, tracking says it was sent out for redelivery. If only. I only found out it arrived by going back to the email from England. Does the Fairfax post office have it? No. San Anselmo of course, doesn't answer their phone, but when I went there on Saturday, they said it would be in Fairfax. Package is missing. First let me say our mail carrier in SAN Anselmo, Anthony, is the best ever. However the San Anselmo Post office gets an F. I was given misinformation regarding having our mail delivered to our summer home. I was told it would take weeks on both ends. NOT true. The post office up where we spend our summer said maybe a week at the most switch time but I'd done online a day or two. The person at the San Anselmo P.O. Counter said we should send it all priority mail for a fee and it would be sent on Wednesdays and received on Fridays. It has never arrived before the following Monday. The P.O. Up here told me that everyone else's mail arrives on Wednesday. If someone knows of the appropriate place to complain about the San Anselmo Post Office, please let me know. They are a disaster. read more

This is the worst post office in America. They routinely deliver our mail to our neighbors, and deliver other people's mail to us. They say things are delivered (via tracking numbers) when they have not been. They say that they attempt delivery when they do not. They force us to go to their physical location (BECAUSE THEIR PHONE DOES NOT WORK, HAS NOT WORKED FOR A YEAR) and the experience there is god awful every time. I've made the request multiple times to pre-sign for all my packages, yet I still miss shipments. Notes are left on the door that a package will be redelivered, then we don't see it for DAYS, if at all. The people that work at the post office make it seem like they could care less about your package or the condition it is delivered in. CAN THEY GET ANYTHING RIGHT?? If these issues weren't such a common occurrence I wouldn't complain to this degree but the service here is truly horrible. Where are their managers? I use this Post Office regularly - a couple of times a week for business - and the folks who work there (usually a youngish woman and an older man) are invariably nice and cheerful. Sure, they are a bit understaffed and the location is very 70's - but come on people ... it's the Post Office! They are barely hanging on. Focus on what's good : nice people who do their job well. I avoid the San Rafael Post Office - always go to San Anselmo. Power to the Postage! read more

The people make you wait so long and they take all the time they want it's terrible, so I wanted to pick up a package so I called and they said it was alright to come get it then when I went there they made me wait 15min to go find It then they came back and told me they're not allowed to go through mail? HORRIBLE mail carrier service. I track my important deliveries to be sure I am home to accept them. I have gotten several notices stating I was not home when in fact I was.....all day. It was also written that "a notice was left", never got one. If I performed my job in the same manner these postal employees do, I wouldn't have a job. Also called several times requesting my deliveries be left inside a gate next to my mailbox.....no luck. Had to chase down the carrier twice. SO frustrating..... read more

They provide the worst post service! I've lived in a several different states and have changed my address a dozen of times at least - I have never experienced such a poor ability of people just do their job. Not only they lied to me in person that all my mail would be forwarded to my new address, but they also refused to release my package as a new order was created to send my package to the forwarding center! Instead they hold it for two weeks then returned it to the sender in another country. Whenever I tried to call them, my phone call would go straight to a message telling me they are busy without even ringing. I just spoke to the USPS customer service and I was told it's all up to the local post office what to do with our mail. So the San Anselmo post office either has incompetent people working there or just mean and insensitive! After all why do we need to provide our email and phone numbers (international parcel form) if they never use them to contact us in situations like mine?!? I am very disappointed because there is nothing I can personally do at this point - the services are paid and info is provided on my side, but the job is not done for some unknown reason and no one is taking a responsibility.. read more

Too make things even more awesome, not only do I feel cheated, the USPS could not even get the package delivered on time. Estimated delivery date was 12/22 (per the receipt and shown on the tracking area of the USPS website). The box was instead delivered the afternoon of 12/26. Zero reliability or pride. Why anyone would use this post office instead of UPS or Fedex (who charge nearly the same or slightly less) is a mystery. read more

Ordered a package and it normally gets dropped off at the local post office before shipped to my house. Most packages through USPS just get delivered at 11 am with the rest of my mail, but this one wasn't. They said they "attempted to drop off the package" at 5:56 pm, but "no one was home so they left a notice." There was no notice slip and I was home all day, so that's a lie. I checked online and it said I would have to go pick it up at the post office the next day. This morning it said it was delivered at 7:42 am. Once again, I was awake and no one knocked. There's no package. There's no slip. Spent 20 minutes attempting to call and the line was busy for about 8 of them. Very unhappy. Any American who believes that the US Postal Service is not lame needs to do a reality check. As for this post office, in the last three weeks I filled out two mail hold cards to hold my mail while I was out of town. After I returned home the first time....there was mail in my box; but they also had mail for me at the post office. Before my second trip I filled out the mail hold card four days before I left, but this time when I returned my mailbox was full of mail again and they had no mail for me at the post office. So what are these workers getting paid for? (as well as pretty good benefits, I imagine). Maybe the USPS should be an all volunteer operation; I don't think they could do worse. As for mail delivery, the two months before Christmas were interesting last year as one time I got a piece of mail in my box that had an addressee who wasn't even in my city. Then there was the day that four out of five pieces of mail in my box were not for me. My gut feeling is that contacting the postmaster for this post office would be a waste of time. As a small business person working from home during the last 5 years, and 18 year San Anselmo home owner, and long lifetime native of Marin, I have only had excellent service and friendly and thorough relations from everyone at the San Anselmo US Post Office and delivery drivers. Sure there could be more counter service employees, but the Republicans in the US government do not fund the USPS well enough to hire more real government servants in the USPS. I found to avoid long lines, to come in early, avoid the noon and late day hours. Its rare there are more than 3 customers waiting, consistently fewer waiting customers than my experiences with San Rafael and Fairfax USPS locations. There are also a few private mail services in and close to San Anselmo, as alternatives which may have more customized personal service some have expected in earlier reviews. read more

I just moved to San Rafael but this is the closest post office so I go here. I've only experienced being the second person in line and the employees are always pleasant. Yes the building is small and pretty outdated but I could care less as I'm in and out in under 5 minutes every time which in my experience is all that matters. read more

I can't do it anymore - I'll be taking it up with the postmaster tomorrow. I have spoken to management countless times about my mail not arriving and carriers stating they delivered - during hours that I'm home. I have written a letter directly to my mail carrier and post office management about my mail not showing up, not being picked up, and finding it at an ABANDONED HOUSE with the same street number as mine ACROSS TOWN. Why is no one doing anything about the USELESS management here!?! The staff is always friendly - get rid of the manager!!!!! She is rude and plain and simply can't to the job!!! Why are Marin County Tax payers paying for these pensions when we can't even get our damn water bills in the mail! Im Bing charged late fees because these morons can't d their jobs! I'm checking an ABANDONED home for MY mail every week!!! What the hell!?!?!? At my wits end with this!!! I sent my husband to the post office with a smallish box containing expensive gifts for Xmas (I like to beat the rush). I told him it could take a week to get there. With insurance it should have cost no more that $20 and would have probably been there by the weekend. The clerk told my husband the best method would be Express Post and upsold him to a cost of $61. We can't afford to live in San Anselmo (he works there) and evidently we can't afford to use the post office either. read more

VERY POOR SERVICE. I had a large box to mail. There was a line and one clerk was asking the people in line what they needed and making notes for the clerk behind the window. I told her I needed insurance (only $2.50). When I got to the window I told the clerk there I needed insurance. After paying $48 to ship the box, I got home and noticed on my receipt that I was NOT given insurance! So now I have a $250 item in the mail that if it is broken when it arrives at destination, will be on my dime because the USPS in SAN ANSELMO forgot to give me insurance although I asked 2 separate clerks! It seems I pay more money for less service! It seems that I have to DOUBLE CHECK other peoples work even though I pay for intended service. What a rip off. read more

The employees are always very polite, but there is usually one person on for the busiest time of day: lunch, when everyone does their errands. So if you come in at noon, you will wait in line for as long as 20 minutes. Sometimes, another employee comes out and asks you a bunch of irrelevant questions about your package (does it contain any flammable items, etc.), which does not make me feel better---why don't they just mail the damned thing and be done with it? Just asking: is it really so onerous to put an extra person on at lunch, and have fewer people at the lighter traffic times of day? read more

Yep. This PO is astoundingly bad. I never really knew there was such a thing as lost mail until I got a PO box here -- my mail ballot in November never arrived (did someone notice my political affiliation?), a book from Amazon was lost, letters take ages to receive... A letter addressed to me exactly right -- in perfect block letters and black ink -- was returned as undeliverable to the sender in another state. I had the friend send me that letter and took it in to the counter. The staff person pulled off the "undeliverable" sticker and handed the letter back to me. read more

There probably isn't much point writing a review since nothing will change, but: if you are dropping off/shipping, then this post office is marginally better than the one in Fairfax. My main issue is they often don't bother to deliver packages. One time tracking said "out for delivery". I was home when the carrier arrived, I even met him on the driveway to accept the letters/junk mail. No package. I went back and check tracking and it said no one was home to sign and that they left a notification. Both of these were lies. Just Saturday it happened again. Tracking said out for delivery. I was home when carrier delivered mail (dog barked, saw him driving away), and no package. Check tracking and it said no delivered because "business closed". This is a residence not a business. And once again claimed notice left but no notice left. When I order online I try to avoid places that ship USPS, but unfortunately, some packages will start out UPS or DHL or FedEx, but then get transferred to USPS for the last leg and then you don't get your package. read more

The San Anselmo post office gets worse every year. The service is absolutely deplorable. Half the time, they don't even deliver a package but the carrier lies about it, falsely stating there was an attempt. I was sitting at home with the front door open and my car in the driveway when the mail carrier came. Even though I was obviously home, when I went to retrieve my mail, there was a notice stating that there was an attempt to leave a package but the package could not be left because no one was home to sign for it! It took me weeks to get the package. 51 % of American households have dogs. Yet, their mail carriers are permitted to refuse to deliver mail to a residence if they even hear a dog. Never mind the dog is locked in the house which is surrounded by a solid 6 foot fence and the mail box is outside the fence! What next?--nurses who refuse to administer injections because they can't stand the sight of blood? Housekeepers who refuse to vacuum because they can't stand the dirt?! They never ever ever answer their phone, often times, after a number of rings, picking up the receiver and hanging up, then taking it off the hook. The only responses you get when you file a complaint are automated. Since they have bankers' hours, you cannot go there yourself and try and resolve a problem. When I have tried that, I have found the staff to be abusive, unhelpful and even threatening. Now that Amazon has contracted USPS to carry out their local deliveries, my main reason for ordering from Amazon is gone. USPS play by their own rules and do not deliver the merchandize within the time frames promised by Amazon. USPS even has the audacity to falsely claim a signature was required so they could not leave the package for dishwashing liquid and dog treats I ordered several weeks ago. After the promised delivery date, I came home from work to find the packages dumped in my driveway, instead of behind a solid unlocked gate. They really should just be shut down. Presently, they are withholding a package because a signature is required, yet they will not arrange for me to have the package delivered to another address, and are not open when I am not at work. The contact number they left me after sent an email complaining about it, was the exact same one they REFUSE TO ANSWER. It is an absolute nightmare dealing with them.
