(NOTE: this is for my brick and mortar experience - in the post office w/packages to be delivered. I am not rating their "delivery" service as it seems those prior to my review have, and not so well....) I'm giving this post office FIVE stars because hands down it is the BEST post office I have ever been to in my life! After living in SF for 15 years I would definitely rate all post offices in SF with 2 stars. Prior to SF I lived in Los Altos - also suffering from poor customer service. Flat out lie about package tracking information and claim it was 'picked up by individual' at an hour when the post office isn't even open? Er no, I didn't pick up my package. I wouldn't set foot in this place if my life depended on it. Nice scam San Anselmo post office. Folks, don't just complain here, complain to the USPS main number 1-800-275-8777. Zero stars wasn't available. These people toss packages onto your driveway almost without stopping their van. Even boxes marked as fragile get smooshed. And don't even try to call these people or go by. Calls never get answered and complaints leave you traumatized. read more

Truly awful experience... No one was at the counter when I arrived, and the woman was extremely condescending and rude when she showed up. She blamed me because she read the address wrong, saying the address is wrote down did not exist. She also would not let me scan the tracking number like every other USPS in the county. Been in San Anselmo for the past 8 years and this is literally the worst postal system I have ever had. I'm constantly missing mail, NOT getting mail delivered when my dashboard says "expected mail today". I've literally had to sign up for the USPS dashboard because of ALL the missing mail over the years. The leave packages on the sidewalk instead of bringing up the driveway, and I have had numerous packages stolen. FedEx and ups have NO issues bringing packages up the driveway, why does USPS?? Stolen mail Missing mail (undelivered) Open mail Stolen packages. I am from San Francisco and NEVER had this problem! I move here and it's a weekly issue. WTH?? If I could give this place negative stars then I would. I went in today to mail off a clothing item I sold. The woman first tried to charge me for tape. I asked how much it was and she said 4$. I told her I have never been charged for tape usage at a post office, but I overall said okay to the payment to avoid an argument. Then I politely asked for a sticker to put the address on the package. She said to write it on the box and told me to write with a pen out in the lobby. There was no pen. So I asked for a pen and she was super rude about it. I asked them to pay for my box and tape and send my package off and she refused to serve me cause she mentioned she didn't like me or wanted to serve me. She said to leave with my 22$ box and my 4$ tape, which is setting someone up to steal. I waited in line 10 min and she didn't let me pay for my stuff and then went to the back and called the police on me. So my question is , what did I do that is illegal. I told her I don't like how rude she is to me, and that set her off the edge. And in turn she made so many angry customers behind me wait in line so long that they all left. Please don't go here unless you want to have the police called on you for trying to pay your bills by shipping off clothing articles. They were to have delivered an Amazon package to our business in San Anselmo. It's a large, one-story building opening directly to a flat, wide residential street. The address is in large letters on the wall next to the door. Usually UPS delivers to us, but for some reason, it was the USPS instead. I got a message from Amazon mid-day that the delivery had just been attempted, but that USPS had "run into an issue". But the foyer was full of people, the door is glass, the windows are huge - what could have gone wrong? I ran outside too see, but no one was there. The message they gave Amazon is that they couldn't deliver it because "the mailbox was full." Mailbox?? It's a package, you walk it in the front door! I can only think that somehow they didn't understand our incredibly simple address?? Even though we get the mail daily, and Amazon packages constantly from UPS?? They took it back to the San Anselmo post office, and the responsibility was now up to us to go pick it up; they don't redeliver. I take public transport to work, so couldn't drive there, and no one else here had time to. So now they're returning it to Amazon. What a waste of time and fuel and money for all involved, for some garbage bags! How lame is this? They do the ONE THING; they deliver packages and mail. UPS would have at least come back if they'd made such a ridiculous error, or taken SOME kind of responsibility. Instead, the whole responsibility lands on us. It's just shoddy. read more

I have never ever been treated so disrespectfully. The mail carrier started an argument when I asked to please don't deliver advertisements as I have contacted the distributor and asked to cancel my address. I asked three times the fourth time I handed him back the advertisement and he THREW it back at me! THEN he FORGED A HOLD MAILfor my account so my medical and prescription packages were held up for 10 days. A month ago I was extremely sick and had a package of live worms for my reptile arrive to the USPS store. I was too sick to come to the store to retrieve it, and did not want the worms to die so I called to see what could be done. I spoke to Chris and explained my dilemma to him. Being a fellow animal lover he could sense my urgency not only for my lizard but for the worms. He phoned me the next morning to let me know the mail courier would be delivering the package to my home shortly (mind you we do not get mail delivery in the hills). Within 30 minutes the package was on my porch along with 3 other packages they also included. I was so happy I cried. Thank you Chris for going the extra mile and ensuring the worms arrived safely. Extremely unprofessional service. The mail delivery woman not only forced a small box in my mail box. I couldn't get it out for weeks even after I had left a note to PLEASE remove the box stuck in it! She went as far as filling out a yellow form holding my mail because she couldn't deliver mail with the box stuck - which she had shoved in there, in the first place. By the time I finally received my mail I had two billing periods of everything plus late charges for phone, water, electricity, insurance etc....you get the picture. I complained to the post office to a guy who pretended to be the manager in charge - KEVIN . He not only lied about fixing this delivery problem, he promised to follow up on this matter but I have yet to hear from him. I have had a business and residence in San Anselmo for a number of years. They are the absolute worst postal service I have experienced. From delivering mail as late as 6:00 to not getting it al all. Recently I ordered a small microwave from Amazon. The day it was supposed to be delivered I was working in my front room watching for the package. When I eventually say that it said delivered I went out to find a tag saying it could not be delivered. Well she could drop the note off but not the package. The office first said it was to heavy. I pointed out that it fit within their approved guideline. Then he said oh ye the traffic they could not stop safely. I pointed out that I live on a corner and the street on the side have lots of parking and the gate is right there. Then he started to get testy and said I would need to pick it up. Went in to pick up my package with my yellow notice and was given the wrong package. Went back the next day and dealt with the same postal worker (black, long messy hair). She was extremely rude and entitled and when I asked for her name she told me she was not going to give me my package and walked off with it to the back of the office. The service here is beyond unacceptable and actually the clerk was confrontational. I went in here in a great mood to send a birthday present to my daughter on the east coast. There was no one at the front desk when I arrived at 4:45 and there was a bell that said "ring bell for service. " I rang the bell and could hear that someone was right behind the wall in front of me. I waited about 2 - 3 minutes and rang again.. 2 more minutes and rang it 3 times loudly .. assuming that no one could hear the bell. (There were 3 people behind me in line.) When the lady came out she yelled at me "Was that you ringin the bell all crazy like that??" And I said yes, well it was my 3rd time and I assumed you couldn't hear it.?" Then she yelled "Are you gonna have attitude because I don't have to serve you!? " (in a very confronting and juvenile manner) .. at that point there was no way I would have let her take my package because she obviously doesn't care at all about her job and would probably dispose of my package or damage it. I was shocked at the unprofessional and aggressive non- service here. I would like to know how this person keeps her job. Disgusting to experience this type of treatment anywhere. The recent mail carriers working our route are terrible. Packages are left hanging out of my mail box or at the base of the mail box on the street. They get out of their truck to walk 40 feet to place the packages in a safe location at my front door! They have lost packages and constantly deliver mail to the wrong address. The Post Office has become increasingly more incompetent and now lacks any semblance of professionalism. I read several of the other reviews, and am sad to say that they really hit close to home. I have had many experiences where I ordered an item for "home delivery", only to get one of those pink tags in my mail box saying falsely that I wasn't home to receive the package. When I've questioned people in the post office about it, they explain that "actually" the package was "too heavy" to bring to the door (for example, a handheld dust buster). So, fine, I'll stand in line to wait for my little package, and then the kicker is, they can't find it...either it's still on the delivery truck...or it's lost! Two nights ago I was standing in my driveway, 6 feet from the mailbox, and watched the postal woman pull up at 5 pm, dump a bunch of mail in my mail box, and then drive quickly away. She didn't drive to the next house, because she had put all of my neighbor's mail in my box (and apparently knew that). I ran and waved after her. She ignored me, and eventually drove away. I called the post office the next morning. Nobody answered. I sent an e-mail, it bounced back. I gave my neighbor's mail to him, of course. But where was my mail? I never received it. This has happened repeatedly over the years. I've seen other residents in the post office complaining about their delivery service over the years. Every time, it seems like all action in the office stops, all the counter people chirp in and defend the post office with a canned set of excuses (while nobody in line gets served). I would give them zero stars if I could. Do not EVER rely on the San Anselmo PO if you are expecting packages. Every single time, without fail, in the four months that I've lived here, all my packages go missing and don't turn up for about a week after they're actually delivered. If you live somewhere with a community mailbox (ie an apartment) forget it. The carriers consistently mis-deliver packages and letters to other people's boxes. Even now I've got a missing, small package, with my tracking saying "notice left" but my box doesn't even have that! It's in someone elses! If you need a package delivered to you, choose UPS or FedEx if you can, because none of the carriers here know how to do their jobs, at all. I'm so glad my tax dollars subsidize people being terrible at their jobs. Not only that, but every time I call and ask about my missing packages, the people working at the office always tell me the same BS: "I'll talk to the carrier and find out what's going on, let me get your name and number and I'll call you back." A terrible post office. I've heard a lot of negative jingle jangle about this one. People have said that it's one of the worst rated in Marin, in terms of wait time and on time service. I can attest to that. Their location is small, cramped and from the 70's. There's always a wait of 3 or more people. Employees might be incompetent. I had to add postage to a prepaid package. He didn't know how and told me that I couldn't. I said, I've done this before. Can't you just weigh it, calculate the postage and charge me for the difference between what's on the package and what it should be? Oh yeah. I guess you can. Came in this afternoon at 2:30pm trying to send a package to APO ADDRESS. Older woman told me that the address I provided is incomplete/inaccurate. Ask her to at least still try to type it in, and it went through just fine until the last part where she have to type in the address. Told me that it's asking for more information even though I already gave it to her. Anyways to keep it short, this person is just completely rude throughout the process, obviously ignorant and incompetent in doing her job. I went to San Rafael Post office instead and have my package taken care off in less than 5 minutes!!! No issue whatsoever. SAN ANSELMO POST OFFICE stop hiring staff that is RUDE AND INCOMPETENT. When I have to use the Post Office. The San Anselmo Post office is my preferred one to visit. The staff behind the counter is very friendly, and has helped me resolve issues that the Fairfax post office has created and will not solve. I'm writing specifically about the Post Office in San Anselmo and not postal carriers. This is the post office I always go to but don't always have to go in, thank goodness, because there's one gal in there that is so rude, and twice now, has yelled at me in front of everyone. The first time was when I was sending a package, and unbeknownst to me, I wasn't supposed to walk in to the counter area as there was already one person in there (pandemic rules). It would have been perfectly acceptable if she had said nicely, 'I'm sorry, but could you wait out in the hallway until we call you? But no, she yelled at me like I was her child. I was the first in line now and funny enough, she then called out to anyone who was sending international packages to please come in, passing me by. Of course I wasn't thrilled and I asked what was going on, why are these people moving ahead? That didn't end well and an argument ensued and that was my first experience. Moving forward to yesterday's experience....same thing. I simply, and literally put one foot in the doorway to grab a very small envelope for my package (I really mean, one foot) and this same lady yelled at me again! My response was, 'I was just reaching my arm around to grab an envelope.' Again, she yelled at me. So here's the odd part...a woman just minutes after me walked into the 'no enter zone' and the horrible woman told her to wait out in the lobby. The customer said, 'Oh, I just want a change of address form' so the rude woman said, 'Oh, OK come on in!' So, it's OK for this other customer to walk all the way in the store, but I couldn't reach my arm around the door and grab an envelope. I must say I didn't take that very well and of course an argument began and probably didn't end as well as I would have liked. After reading all of these comments, I don't think I'm the only one who has had a bad experience with this one woman who works there. Avoid this place at all costs! read more

I, too, went into the SA PO and asked to speak to the manager and out walks Kevin. I welcomed him (tried to be positive) and begged him for help with the years of issues that I've had with our mail delivery. For example, I have asked on numerous occasions (to numerous to count) to have packages left near my gate (not in the dirt and rain by the mailbox). He assured me that he would speak with the carrier and mark my address with the specific delivery instructions. I have since found out that he has done NOTHING! Twice before today they reported to Amazon that they tried to deliver a package but no one was home, and that they left a note. No note, no package. They admitted at the PO that the carrier ran out of time and took the package back to the PO. Today they upped the ante and falsely claimed that the package was left (very specific about the place and even said exactly 7:15 PM) The package was NOT left here, and was in fact once again back at the PO. Folks will be disappointed when packages come a day later than promised, but furious when they are lied to.
