I always have a very pleasant experience at this location. plus, their prices for shipping are far, far better than UPS or Postal Annex. Needing to return an online order that didn't offer free returns, I was shocked when the Postal Annex gave me a price of $32.50! For an item only worth $80. My next stop was UPS who wanted $24.99. still too much. Decided to go to the US Post Office, which now I realize should have been my first choice, and the gentleman worked with me to find an acceptable delivery timeframe which allowed me to reduce the cost to just under $20 and arrive the return center well within the 30 day limit. The gentleman working was super patient, provided me with several options, and handled the transaction efficiently and with a smile. Of all the post office locations in Portland, this is the 2nd worst I've been to re customer service (the worst is Park Rose!) I've been to this location 3 times the past few months and each time was an unpleasant experience. I know drive farther out of my way to go to other locations instead if this one, because here the service is so bad. Each of my visits has been on a different weekday and at different times (11am, 1:30pm and 4:15pm). Each time there were between 8-12 customers in line and only one employee working at the counter. The one employee who was working was very rude and abrupt with every customer and clearly didn't care about providing friendly customer service. Several people in line were talking amongst themselves about how she obviously hated her job. The one employee at the counter was very, very slow so the line progressed at a snail's pace. On my first visit here, I was very friendly and polite to the woman working at the counter. I smiled, said good morning how are you and the response I got was cold and unwelcoming. And it was the exact same situation with my two subsequent encounters here. I don't say this very often, but that employee should NOT be in customer service and definitely should not be working on the front counter directly with customers. Also, this post office branch does not have their hours posted anywhere... not on the front doors or front windows, not in the lobby, nowhere. Of the three main post offices I frequent, this one is my favorite. This isn't even my assigned post office, but I go to it anyway. Why? The service is far faster and more efficient than any other post office in my area. The employees are great, especially Judy and Gale. I've been going here about 5 years and I'm always impressed. Sometimes there's a line, but this PO is much smaller than the downtown or Industrial District post office. But any post office gets lines, I still feel they clear them faster than other POs. And they're much more professional, yet much friendly than other POs. But, please, don't take my word for it! The less of you that go here, the better it is for me! I'm just wanting the general PO bosses to see this PO is exceptional and I wanted to give it credit where it's due. I visit the PO at least once a week, for work. My experience is that this is my favorite PO. read more

I generally don't mind going into the post office, and usually don't mind a short wait if the employees are efficient and kind. However, I don't know what band of idiots they seemed to scrounge up to work at this branch, but every single time I go into this branch, I can actually feel my blood pressure rising. It didn't used to be this way, like all other post offices, I came here to do my business and get out. It's the most convenient location, so after my first horrific experience, I decided to try again figuring it was just the inclement weather that caused the back up. Not so. Heed the other Yelpers' advice. The line is out the door consistently, and it's not necessarily because there is a shortage of postal workers on the counter, it's that this one old hag that works there (as mentioned in another review, bangs and long straight hair), takes it upon herself to remove herself from her window after only assisting two customers, meanders around to the lobby, feigning actual helpful work, as the line continues to grow and grow. I don't know HOW she can even believe that by giving people tracking stickers before they get to the window will somehow speed up service, but this is her logic. It's obscene. And then the parking. It's street parking for 15 minutes. This used to not be an issue, there used to always be a spot. But now? Because Twittletoes is wandering around the lobby instead of helping people behind the counter, waits are never less than 45 minutes! I should stand outside and call tow companies to have everyone towed for being there for more than 15 minutes! Shame on the USPS for hiring this gaggle of fools. I am sure you get this all the time and I am sorry to hear that but ups never seems to care even if I come in with a ripped back that needs major fixing! customer service is horrible here. they want you to but a role of tape for $3.50. ha! the guy behind me shared the tape he brought in himself. better customer service from a stranger in the store rather than the actual people who work their. The USPS has had a long history of struggling with customer service, and this branch is a shining example of why. I need to send a letter as registered mail. I hop onto Yelp and check the hours, which says they open at 8:00am. I get there at 8:10, only to learn that they actually open at 8:30. Very matter-of-factly, the clerk tells me that their website clearly states they're open at 8:30, and if we were mistaken, odds are we got the hours from Yelp. He knows this because people come in there all the time before they're actually open after getting misinformation from Yelp. I ask why they don't just change the hours, and he says the manager is aware but hasn't done anything about it yet. I'm peeved, and leave to go to another branch. But first, I go to change the hours myself, so that it would at least be accurate for the rest of the community. Guess what? They've claimed the business and locked in incorrect the hours! It's not even an issue of them not engaging with Yelp. No, it's them willfully leaving incorrect information on their Yelp page, even though by their own admission it regularly inconveniences their customers and they've identified it as a repeated problem. Oh, and the posted hours on Yelp say they're open on Saturday. They're not. no weekend hours period. Dear USPS. You HAVE to be aware that people hate you, right? This is just a small part of the reason why. Get your act together. read more

I went to the Holladay Park post office in Portland, OR to send a letter by certified mail to the Consulate General of Spain in San Francisco. The address was clearly typed on the envelope. When I said hi, one person responded with a yawn (she kept yawning the whole time; not only while she was "helping" me, but while interacting with other customers). Once I told her that I wanted to send that letter by certified mail, she said: "ohhh... I don't know... Judy.... I don't know... Judyyyyyyy? Judyyyyy!!!!!! So Judy came, and informed me that I couldn't send that letter by certified mail, since it was going out of the country. I then informed both Judy and the Yawner that San Francisco is, in fact, inside the USA. Hey, at least I gave them a geography lesson. Well, Judy went inside to ask someone else if I could send that letter by certified mail. Apparently, she wasn't convinced by my statement that san Francisco is in the USA. When she came back, a few minuted later, she told me that I could send my letter by certified mail, but I would have to pay for it (duh...???). Once I paid for it, she stated again that she had to make sure that I could send it by certified mail, since it cannot be done when sending something abroad. Again, I reminded her that San Francisco is not abroad. This was totally confusing and upsetting. Someone who works at a post office shouldn't freak out when reading something like "Consulado General de España en San Francisco/Spanish Consulate General in San Francisco [San Francisco address, San Francisco, CA zip code]. They should take at least a minute to make sure where the letter is going. Yawning doesn't hurt anyone, but it is totally unacceptable. I don't yawn at work. Most people don't yawn at work. Also, this is my second incident with Judy. The first one was even more upsetting than this one. It happened years ago, and I still get upset when I think about it. This is my neighborhood post office, so I like to go there. I shouldn't have to go to a different office that is further away from my house just because the people who work there keep getting more and more unprofessional. read more

I wasn't kidding. The holidays make me believe my grasp on sanity and civility is but a flimsy thread, and that's even before I attempt to ship the crap I buy. In a way, my complaints about the holidays aren't that different from Charlie Brown's. The commercialism sucks. The lines for everything suck. The stabbings that occur at Walmart over Wii Fits totally suck, even if they help to thin out the weak. I totally understand why Charlie Brown wanted nothing more than to carry his scraggly tree and get away from those awful dancing twins. So, with that in mind, you can imagine that having to go to any post office at this time of the year makes me stabby. The last thing I need is to get grief from overworked and harried postal workers and the droves of idiots who don't know how to apply a stamp. Trust me, it's not that I don't appreciate the efforts of postal employees, particularly around the holidays. My mom's been a mailman (mail woman, really) for almost 20 years. I gots respeck. I just know that the postal worker at Christmas can be almost as brutal to encounter as the grizzly bear in winter. But there was nothing of that attitude at the post office on NE Schuyler. I happened to get in line around 4:40, and waited no more than a few minutes before I was helped. Even though I forgot to fill out an address tag to accompany my flat rate box full of winter solstice tidings - told you the post office can be full of idiots - the employee who helped me was extremely patient and good-natured. And this worker had probably been at the counter managing the shipping concerns of half-wits all day. I'm not nearly that nice to customers any time between 4 and 5, and I work at a front desk. Of course, this location has a teeny tiny area for customers, which I'm sure can be unbearable on a really crowded day. Truthfully, a post office could be the size of a football field, but if the staff inside of it isn't competent and at least somewhat polite, it will bring on the stabby. Based on that criteria, I'm happy to associate this post office with Vince Guaraldi and my mom. That's right, my mom. read more

Been going to this post office for years because it's close to my place, but the experience is hit-or-miss! I don't know why, but any type of transaction takes way too long to complete. Sometimes the staff is slow, sometimes the network is slow, sometimes the customers are slow. It's an unavoidable problem. What might help with the congestion in the line would be to reorganize the supplies and surface used for addressing labels. It's right up against where people stand in line and on certain days it becomes a hot mess. To save yourself a headache, address and seal your letters + packages ahead of time! read more

Though the vast majority of USPS locations I have visited have never even earned service worth a review I feel like this one is actually run by human beings (most of the time). The line is usually long- but it's because they take the time to interact with you and attempt to solve your postal problems. My reason not for 5-stars? They only are able to solve said postal problems 50% of the time. I usually end up having to look up information on the USPS website on my phone while at the counter with the person to get a definitive answer (oversized items, shipping perishables, updating a forwarding address, etc.) They also mistakenly closed our PO box and we lost about 2 weeks worth of mail that no one can really tell us where it went (including bank statements). Suspiciously, we had fraudulent activity on our credit card later that month and had to get a new account. But...they were gracious and helpful when admitting to AND fixing their error which is more than I can say for most government agencies. read more

I had a package that was scheduled to be delivered today, but due to the snowstorm, our carrier wasn't able to deliver it. I called the Holladay Park post office to explain that I was heading out of town and absolutely needed the package delivered ASAP. Twenty minutes later, my package was delivered to my front doorstep. I was in this post office on Wednesday, April 9 at about 11:30 am. The now-famous clerk with the long hair and short, curled bangs was on duty, and she was evidently in some kind of snit. She dawdled through one transaction for several minutes -- and then closed her station, despite the fact that nine people were in line. The other clerk repeatedly apologized to the customers as the wretched woman with long hair and short bangs wandered to and fro, sipped from a can of soda and moved papers around. I was there for 30 minutes, and she never managed to help another person. I felt sorry for the clerk who was trying so hard. I felt sorry for the other patrons who had to wait. All that said, the USPS cannot expect people to continue to patronize their services when their employees are so bad. If I go to Taco Bell, they open a second window if three people are in line. Why am I getting better service from the Taco Bell than from y own government? I'm exploring options now to send my parcels through other means. read more

I mailed a package from CA to Portland and put the wrong address, (an address that doesn't even exist) completely my fault. After going in to my local post office here in CA and dealing with the USPS automated phone number and online "package intercept" feature to no avail, I finally got the phone number to this USPS facility and called. It being the closest USPS facility to my desired destination address, I figured they would eventually get the incorrectly addressed package. I asked if they could change the address on the package to the correct address, instead of the package bouncing around with no home. I talked to (what I'm assuming) female on the phone who's name starts with an S (I cant even read my own handwriting, hence the wrong address situation) S was very helpful when I explained my situation and said they could probably catch it and redirect it. Fingers crossed that works, and at the very least, it'll end up getting returned to sender (me) because of my mistake. Either way, I greatly appreciate the help! I'll update with the results later if I remember. :) read more

Beware: this branch has no self-service kiosk and no parking. There is always a line out the door, and rarely more than one attendant. This means you can't buy stamps without waiting in a half-hour line. Sorry to say it, but no wonder they're going under. I go to many different post offices in Portland, Oregon. Downtown - Central for odd items. Airport for late night. Piedmont, as it is in my neighborhood. But, now that Richard has retired, I go the Schuyler branch for excellent customer service. I used to live in Old Town, and always enjoyed working with Dayna at the Downtown Central office, and I am very happy that she is now working at the N.E. Schuyler office. There are times that I have dozens of individual items from work that need to be posted around the country / world. Dayna always helps me to figure-out the best way to sort / organize them to allow for efficient processing, and to have the briefest impact on other potentially waiting customers. She helps me to figure-out which is the most appropriate service related to the price I want to spend and related options [insurance, tracking, etc]. She is also very nice, courteous, and educational so that I both enjoy my visit to the post office [something that many consider right up there with a root canal] and so that I may be a more knowledgeable customer in the future. read more
