Convenient for dropping off packages that are are labeled, but unlike many other stores, they won't print a label from a QR code. If they added this service which has become the standard and would make them on par with others, I would give them 5 stars. That being said, they offer fax, notary, printing and passport services in addition to shipping. The small space is packed with shipping supplies, stationary, cards - you have to navigate your way around - making it feel smaller than it is. Located right on NE Broadway in the heart of Irvington, you can typically find a parking spot right out front, especially now that the city has reengineered the street creating more parking spots. read more

Extremely rude to me when I had an issue with passport photos. I'm trying to get my passport application done and only have 7 days to do so. I went in to get a passport photo after doing full makeup and wearing a particular outfit. That evening when I tried to submit the photo, the application said the background was too dark. I could see that my background did look slightly more grey. I called this morning to see what we could do about the issue, and no one answered so I left a nice voicemail. After not hearing from anyone for two hours, I called back and spoke to a woman. I explained the issue and she immediately told me their photos get rejected all the time and it's extremely difficult with the online application. I asked if sometimes it's better to print it out and scan it and she said it didn't make a difference. I explained not to be combative but my boyfriend had gone to a different place, had photos taken, and then scanned the photo himself and his online application had been accepted. She said fine come in and then you can scan it yourself but we can't do that for you. At this point from her attitude, I had lost faith in their passport photos at all, so I just said okay can I just get a refund. She was like you will have to come in with a receipt. This is not close to my house and it's their fault and I have no reason to go back there. A refund over the phone would have been a simple thing they could have done to fix the issue. She was extremely curt the entire conversation and acted like this is not her problem. I will not be back for anything including passport photos. read more

This Postal Annex offers packing and mailing services, along with any other related stationary and packing materials supplies you can think of. I was here at the recommendation of my friend Maya (of Lowell) to purchase a box for a cute (and small) end table that I had purchased at her shop. The box vs. table measurements weren't exact, but the packaging kind of worked. I then bought some packing tape and took it all back to the hotel to finish the job. But in the end, I successfully fit the table in my duffle suitcase, threw the box away, and took the roll of packing tape home. The funds spent was reasonable insurance in the end. As for my retail experience at this Postal Annex, it was just OK, but considering that they were short staffed and I was among several customers in line. As such, my customer service could be described as efficient, no nonsense and a bit curt. read more

I rarely get personal or emotional but this location drive me nuts. We ar not using much of their service, it is just so that they are a drop off location for DHL. So they do not have to do much, just tae the parcel scan it and leave it there for DHL to pick it up. Hard to mess up - but they can at least when it comes to customer service. Ill asked for receipt and they said, well we dont give out receipts when we have not printed (and sold you) the label. "But please go ahead and tale a picture of the tracking code" - it is not about the tracking code - it is about a receipt that I have dropped that box at your place. When I go out of the store and that box is missing I have no evidence that I gave it to the store. I mean really how unlogical (to use a nice word) is that? There is no reason in teh world not to print out something saying "we received parcel DHL-112222 on date and time!. Something other places do ( NW POSTAL 3055 NW Yeon Ave for example). This is very unprofessional. And some could say this was an error by the agent that was taking the parcel in, no it seems tp be policies since it has happened at a different Annex station as well. How in the world can somebody expect that a business drops off parcels without any evidence. Especially cause you book DHL since you want to have a fast delivery to somewhere, or have a precious good to transport. Either wax even the postage is expansive with DHL so a missing parcel where you have no evidence of dropping to claim insurance is just simply..... ___ fill in the blanks your self please! My next call is to DHL and to see what professional drop off location DHL is offering. Unfortunately my go to the NW Postal I mentioned earlier is no longer a DHL partner since they had not enough boxes coming in for DHL driver to come by daily for a pickup. read more

These guys are just A-Holes: there's no way around it. I mean 5 outta 5?!?!? Come-on!!!!!! I used to live in Portland and now do occasional business with them from my home-base in Bellingham which necessitates long distance service. Therefore, I've been using Postal Annex for nearly 15 years. I perused the reviews just now accessing their Yelp page in preparation for mine. I was really surprised to see some negative reviews. I have had nothing but high quality service from all the staff there and including Brian, the owner, who has been incredibly helpful to me. My go-to guy is Ben who has been a life-saver to me especially in the years I've had to work with them at a distance. He has been helpful, thoughtful, responsible, good-natured and wholly dependable. When in Portland on business now, I do training programs. If the program materials are not delivered to me when I need them and in the way I need, the program is going to be a bust. If I could rate this store negative 100 stars I would. I have been a customer there since February 2002. I have used the store several times per week for 22 years. Today I went into the store with a simple request to purchase postage stamps to place on a card I am sending to my daughter. I could have used the postage meter at my office but I preferred to use stamps because this was not business correspondence. When I stepped up to the counter I specifically asked to purchase "stamps." I was told the charge would be $1.72, which was not an issue. Two more times I asked specifically for "stamps," but Omar, the owner of the store who was assisting man, walked over to the postage meter to meter my letter. I told him, "No I want stamps. I do not want the letter metered." He left the machine and walked back to the counter with my letter, questioning me about my choice. I said, "Never mind, I will take care of this elsewhere," and pulled my letter out of his his hand. He then then followed me OUT THE DOOR yelling, "You know what, asshole? Don't ever come back!" That is how the owner shows appreciation to a customer who has spent literally thousands of dollars in his store for 22 years between February 2002 and February 2024. I honestly hope this post costs Mr. Omar A LOT of money in lost business. He has certainly lost mine forever. Avoid this place. read more

I moved into the neighborhood six months ago. I've been selling on eBay and use lots of boxes, stuffing and tape. I've been buying regularly and have gotten ALL my supplies at this place. I have dropped off at least 20 packages in the last month or so. Today I was told that there is and always had been a $1 charge for postal drop offs. The first cashier refused my package unless I paid. She told me to pay the dollar or get out. We are very busy (the floor was empty of people). I appealed to the mgr on duty. He told me the dollar had always been charged, when I asked why I had not been charged before and why HE (I had handed him dozens of packages) had never charged me before he said "count yourself lucky" Ok it's a dollar. But the first cashier was rude. The mgr was condescending. I looked up the math. I've spent $400 in four months in supplies. I guess it's worth a dollar to lose a customer. When I noted that to the mgr he said he did not mind losing the customer it was policy. With this type of service I wonder how they will survive. read more

I have mailed PLENTY of packages through this location for many years. I recently purchased a piece of art from a British artist, which arrived damaged. The artist that I purchased it from asked me to send it back so that she can repair it. She requested that I re-pack it exactly as she had packaged it. I needed two pieces of cardboard to fit on top and bottom of bubble-wrapped artwork. I went into the store and the young girl at counter argued with me, saying it needed to be put into a box. I explained OVER and OVER to her that full enclosing it in a box raises the shipping price to England by 75%. I also told her repeatedly that I was acting on the artist's instructions. She brought out 2 huge pieces of cardboard and cut them down. They were still MUCH too large, and I had to ask her to re-cut it two more times. The last cut is rough and jagged and looks like a first grader cut it. I was charged $12.00. Now, if I had gone in and ASKED for suggestions, that would be one thing, but I told her exactly what I wanted. Talking to her was like talking to a brick wall. Then, I asked to purchase some fragile stickers, and she said "We don't carry them anymore because they don't work, and in her opinion, the stickers make the package a target". Right, a shipping store without fragile stickers. The whole encounter took at least 20miinutes because she didn't LISTEN to me and had to make 3 attempts at getting the size right (it never did fit right). Whatever happened to "Measure Once, Cut Twice"? I went back today to complain to the owner (who wasn't there), and was met with even more condescending attitudes by two other employees. I was told that they are only as good as their tools". I was an eBay seller for 24 years and often used Postal Annex to make custom boxes for me. They were always perfect. Same tools, But a noticeable lack of skill and profession now. Who needs 20 minutes of aggro just because an employee can't be bothered to listen to a customer? read more

Called in to see if they had a notary on site after UPS told us their notary worked short hours. The associate on the phone was incredibly friendly and helpful (Rachel). Once we arrived we were greeted by friendly welcomes and were helped immediately. Ben was our notary and he was friendly, insightful, fun. Would recommend this place over UPS any day. read more

I came in with a stupid amount of equipment a d boxes. 220 pounds worth. They helped me figure out how to pack it and helped me lift everything Fedex guy was trying to get out of shipping it and Hillary schooled him on weight limits and made them do it. Hillary is a god. Ill never ship from anywhere else. Ever. If you want to ship something they are 100 percent the place to go. They earn lifetime customer loyalty. This place charges about a 35% surcharge to ship USPS "flat rate" boxes (but the font is small AF behind the counter and employees might not bring this up) The boxes are free from the US post office. Poor. Very poor customer service. Didn't know I needed a code to pick up my packages. Was totally fine coming back later but the cashier kindly went in the back to check. The old man working there got really upset and yelled at my boyfriend across the room "WE WILL NEVER LOOK FOR A PACKAGE FOR YOU AGAIN!!". Probably some of the worst simple customer service I have ever gotten. Associate was rude while I was simply standing in line waiting politely and at 6ft distance. I then waited at the register I was asked to stand at only to be ignored for another ten minutes and snapped at for trying to tape my label. I was then informed I would be charged to ship something that already had proper postage on it just "because". I walked out- and made it clear that the service and tone I was met with was the reason why. Not to mention being charged twice over a proper package. What a rip off! USE USPS THIS PLACE IS A JOKE. I have never been approached by an individual and treated with such disrespect in a retail environment. I checked my PO box and asked if I had amazon packages. Young lady stated this was fine and as she looked an older gentleman Brian came to intrude and say he and his staff dont look for packages unless I have receivedan auto text. I stated I was merely checking as unable to come in tomorrow (neither was I told by employee it was an issue) as I wished him a "a good day sir" he walks away saying I dont even care what his is saying and yells from across the store as I walk out "We will never look for a package for you again"... stunned all I could say was "dont forget I am a customer sir"... truly a baffling disrespectful customer service experience unlike anything I have ever encountered. An unexpected duty that comes with my position as Office Peon is an invisible title known as the Custodian of Records. When I first opened a letter addressed to this mysterious person, I had no idea what it meant. Was I supposed to obtain a Swiffer and dust off the filing cabinets regularly, and if so, how often? This confusion was not helped when JB saw me dig out my keys from my purse, rifle through each one to find the key that would open the door to our apartment building, and asked, "What are you, the janitor?" That's Records Custodian, buddy. Now I mostly understand that title to mean that overzealous paralegals working for the state can send me subpoenas for copies of stuff. The state workers don't even really discriminate on what kind of documents they require copies of - they just want tons of tree carcasses with words and they want them yesterday. But, they also want to be sure that the Custodian of Records (or someone employed in the Custodian's stead, which, ha) is the one who made and distributed all duplications of stuff. To do that, the Custodian of Records is also The Person Who Has to Drive to Postal Annex to Get a Letter Notarized to the Tune of Five Dollars. Luckily, Postal Annex is about five minutes away from my office (where all those records are being custodied). They also carry an assortment of cards for those days that you're thisclose to flaking on someone's birthday and don't have time to scour every bookstore's stationery area. They also have a modest selection of office and shipping supplies for those days when the outsourced customer service department of OfficeMaPoPles annoys you. They do not sell Swiffers. read more

This place, should be condemned for toxic spillage. The toxin I speak of is the crazy mannerisms is the man known as Brian. This guy, nuttier than a bag of cats, is apparently, so says he, the owner of the Broadway postal annex. This afternoon, my husband and I, having just gotten to town and still looking for a place to live wanted to be able to receive mail. We stopped in and asked the pleasant young man that we'd like to know the mailbox prices. He gave us a price list and we agreed they were fair, at which time he handed us over to the care of Brian, described accurately by another reviewer accurately as "white beard, balding, bad teeth" and self described later as "the owner". This seemed like a simple operation to me; go in, pay for a mailbox, start receiving mail. Not according to this pissed off old bastard. He asks for ID and my husband coughs up his. I presume he can handle it but my ID is requested and I get it from the car. I explain that I prefer my married name on the form as I have not changed my ID yet but he continues writing. Sir, I say AGAIN, I prefer my married name to go on the form, as I will be getting my mail under that name. Well now he hears me, and looks at me, seeming instantly flustered "I'm going to put down what it says here. You have to use the name on your license". Well that's bull, so I explain the notion of common law name usage and that one can go by any name they choose as long as they do not wish to defraud or deceive, neither was my goal. Well at this, Brian raises his voice at me, sputters angrily that i dare not lecture him on law and he tips ip the papers dramatically, calling me a "jerk", though it sounded like he intended to use something more harsh before blurting out jerk. I was instantly confused by his outburst as was my husband and he tells us to get out, that he doesn't think we "deserve a mailbox" there. We ask why he's becoming upset, and tells me I'm "being a real jerk about it" and demands we leave. It's at this point I ask for the owner, he claiming then that he, indeed, is the big boss. If I speculated, I'd say, there was some mental instability there, perhaps dangerously so and I can only hope others heed my warning; this fruit cake, isn't worthy of your business. Let the rotten fruit fall from the vine. read more

This place is expensive! I mailed two packages. Each were priced at around $20. I estimated the price at FedEx and USPS and both of them were priced $9-10 above the cost I paid at Postal Annex. The guy who shipped my packages blamed it on gas prices. The irritated staff and the high prices make it easy to not come back. Anytime I've come here it has been for convenience. Don't do it lazy people of the world! Go elsewhere! read more

First, I have not tried to mail anything so this review is just for their printing services. Wow what amazing customer service I received was top notch. I needed a game mat a fan made for a board game printed and laminated. The original was in an Euro A3 size and when translated to the Ledger/Tabloid size instead of exactly 11x17, it was more like 11.5 x 17.25. The first print had the bottom off a little, and while you could tell, worked for the game and said I was happy and would take it. But either she is a perfectionist or just saw the little dissatisfaction I had and worked on redoing it so it came out centered perfectly. I can't wait for I'll next game night so I can tell my players to go there for all their printing needs! Thank you for the help and the way you approached it with genuine interest in what I was doing and the best way to take care of me. I will be back with more projects soon! read more

I'd managed to avoid who I am assuming is the owner (white beard, balding, bad teeth) until now, but it must be like playing Russian roulette, at some point the gun is going to go off... I was picking up some large-format prints, and noticed that there were some creases in them. The condition of the prints was important to me, so I mentioned it to the guy. Dude proceeds to berate me in front of a store full of employees and customers, and has a drawn-out angry conflict with me over it. All over some prints! From reading the other reviews here, this is apparently his normal way of conducting business. Well, it's not mine. I'm done with this place and would encourage any one else to avoid this place like the plague. read more
