The person did not really help me understand where my package was I had to drive to 3 different locations

I almost never leave reviews after a single visit anywhere...but I can't stop thinking about the experience I had. I arrived in the afternoon a week or so ago (beginning of December) to mail a Christmas card to the Netherlands. The line was HUGE, out the door. There was a single elder gentlemen (and by elder I don't mean OLD, just older than me with white-gray-brown hair, tall, with glasses, wearing a mask) helping folks. He...was...so...patient. And kind. I watched as he helped a younger man who didn't speak any English, pulling out a phone to translate for the young man. I don't know if USPS trains for this (if they do, freaking kudos to you all), but it wasn't just WHAT you were doing it was the WAY you were doing it. Obvious respect for a non-English speaker instead of the usual contempt many folks would have shown. Again the patience, when he didn't hear or understand your question you repeated it in English and again showed your phone and translated via text. I can only imagine how hard it must be to work a holiday shift with a line out the door and maintain your calm, and KIND presence with everyone you spoke to in front of me that day. So yea. Even though it was literally a 30minute wait to buy a stamp to send a single Christmas card, you restored a little bit of faith in humanity for that day. Thank you for your service. Office has a "will call" door with a bell. Sometimes when I have been there I ring the bell, and nobody comes for 1-2 minutes. So today did the same, waited 2 min, trying not to be a jerk and spam the button, again after another 2 minutes, then again. Meanwhile the wait for the counter is getting longer and longer. Do I abandon what I am supposed to do and bother the folks at the counter (after waiting in a considerably long line NOW....or keep trying? There is no sign to indicate the will call door is closed or that they are short staffed so please use the window.....nothing. After 15 minutes wasted standing there like an idiot, I got in line and waited another 10 minutes in line. Counter person politely informed me that they didn't have anyone answering the will call door today. And that she "told her manager a sign would be good". What a joke. Terrible management. How many other people's time did they decide to waste today rather than just put a simple sign up? Terrible service. read more

It's a beautiful building, like many historic post offices. And it's also understaffed and grungy. Still, the people who serve here are heroic and friendly and efficient. read more

Definitely wouldn't recommend! We waited 30 minutes when there was only one person in front of us! I would rather go to a different post office that's miles away than go here. read more

I had three international packages. The lady who helped me was very courteous, knowledgeable, and intelligent. When i finished she thank everyone in the line for their patience. The number of people had grown from one to five, while she was serving me. She asked the next customer to come in the back and help her to get his mail, while he was letting him in, i asked where i can get more international mailing forms and she said at her desk, so i waited behind the 4 customers. But she remembered me and grabbed the forms and gave them to me. I did not have to wait. I wonder if she was the only staff st the post office, maybe it was lunch time. read more

All the employees here are friendly and helpful, most of the time. I feel bad for them, because this location (just like so many other locations) is very understaffed, especially during peak days (Saturday) and peak times (lunch time and 5-6pm). They have"lost" a couple of my packages (one was found about a week later, another was returned by someone they accidentally gave it to, another was never found). The "Will Call" window is useless. I've tried to pick up packages during the hours posted on the door, but after ringing the "doorbell" a few times + knocking nobody ever came to answer. After waiting several minutes, two different occasions, I ended up going inside and waiting in a very long line to get my packages :( read more

I love my darling neighborhood library. It's small, but the staff is on top of things, especially considering they are probably understaffed. Also, we do have a self serve kiosk now, which is extremely helpful when the post off ice closed. Finally, they are open from 10:00-3:00 on Saturday, which are really reasonable hours to be open for people who work 9-5, Monday through Friday. read more

Usually a line and has no self service option whatsoever. The small town my mom lives in down in Florida allows you to mail package from a kiosk 24/7. So it sucks that they don't afford the same convenience here. read more

When you call the post office they let it ring ring ring and some picks up and hangs right up on you very sad

Lazy workers that will sometimes tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone. They play stupid and don't help problem solve at all and just blame the next person in line. Literally had a lady lie to me saying they hold a package for a day and process it but they had it for under 8 hours and claimed it was already loaded up on the truck going back becuase of a typo... 100% do not recommend any usps postal office in the Portland area. Out of the 10 packages I had through usps last year 6 of them had problems delivering...if your reading this then do the smart move and pay a couple extra bucks to have it shipped through FedEx or ups. anyone BUT USPS they litterally do not care for their customers read more

Just a post office in old St John's and I even remember when it opened about 40 years ago when it was moving from an older building nearby? I drop in here once in a great while to buy stamps usually if I'm in the neighborhood? Alfred Hilliker at the St. Johns Portland Post Office went above and beyond- I was waiting on a delivery that was expected to arrive a week earlier, and had gotten lost- it was a handmade gift for my mom, and I was in a panic to get it to her on time. I was traveling to visit her that day- and he went out of his way to track the package down AND hand-deliver it to my door. I got the gift, and was able to get it to her on time. It was not expected, and was incredibly nice. I frequently go to this USPS location, as it is in my neighborhood and I ship packages a lot. Yes, sometimes the line is long or they are understaffed, BUT I have never had an employee be rude to me- they are always helpful, apologetic for the wait, and friendly. read more

Even after waiting in line to have my envelope weighed because it was full of legal documents, the post office on the receiver's end sent it back for insufficient postage!?! What did I wait in line for if they can't even do the most fundamental task they are hired to do!?! I ended up sending it again via FedEx to meet a deadline as well as prove that I had attempted to send the documents in time. read more

Not sure if I just came at the magic time, but there was only one other customer in this well-stocked USPS. An employee named Lauren saw that I needed a pen, so she pulled out a Sharpie and helped me find the best mailers for my timeline. Super helpful, patient and friendly! read more

I almost never write bad reviews but I've had enough. I have twice experienced extremely rude "service", and nothing is ever stocked outside the service counter so you are forced to wait in a very slow line just to get a change of address form, etc. Every time I go to this post office I am treated not just poorly but outright rudely. I would advise going elsewhere. read more
